Overlooking JPP

November 27th, 2020

Warrior.

Joe sometimes wonders where the Bucs would be without Jason Pierre-Paul.

The veteran outside linebacker is having a helluva year. And it is good timing, too. With the loss of injured Vita Vea and NFL sack king Shaq Barrett going cold with sacks, the Bucs have needed JPP’s strong play more than ever.

Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com had something recently that speaks to how much of a defensive force JPP has been this season.

@ScottSBucs: Jason Pierre-Paul is currently the only player in the NFL with multiple sacks, multiple interceptions and multiple forced fumbles…it’s no wonder he rarely leaves the field.

That’s damn impressive. Shoot, the way JPP is going, maybe he should be getting more Pro Bowl votes?

Many times in the offseason, Joe stated the biggest goal for defensive coordinator Todd Bowles was to keep JPP upright. Seems that success is paying off big time.

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Best player so far this year on this team. I expect he inspires the win over KC Sunday.

  4. Snook Says:

Good thing we tagged Shaq and didn’t give him a big deal.

  5. Unbuc'n Believable Says:

Love his passion and enthusiasm for the game. Hope he stays heath and is a Buccaneer for as long as he wants to play. Ring of Honor candidate

Great competitor, if he stays with the Bucs another season or two should be in the Ring of Honor. Just think of the numbers he’d have put up if he hadn’t had those 2 self inflicted accidents. His career sack numbers would have been much more
impressive than they are now. Great motor, great skills and highly motivated player. He needs to rub off on Shaq Barrett, his dropoff in sacks has made the defense look average for stretches of games when they need a big play vs the QB.

Against the rams he called it on the sideline that he would intercept one of those screens and he did! Should have 3 INTs if he caught that one from
The saints. Great player, great leader. #Beatthechiefs

  8. Defense Rules Says:

JPP is having an excellent first 11 games: 7.5 sacks, 10 QB Hits, 2 INTs, 3 FF, 44 tackles and 5 TFLs. Project that over 16 games: 11 sacks, 15 QB Hits, 3 INTs, 4 FF, 64 tackles and 7 TFLs. Not too shabby.

JPP actually did a little better than that in some respects during his 1st year with us (2018): 12.5 sacks, 20 QB Hits, 0 INTs, 1 FF, 58 tackles and 16 TFLs. And that was BEFORE he switched to the other side of the DLine.

Which brings up a question: ‘Are Shaq’s sacks down BECAUSE he & JPP switched sides?’ Last year Shaq was an absolute beast: 19.5 sacks, 37 QB Hits, 6 FF, 58 tackles and 19 TFLs. That’s unheard of, and not just in the sacks category. This year, through 11 games, he has: 5 sacks, 9 QB Hits, 1 FF, 44 tackles and 7 TFLs. Project that over 16 games: 7.5 sacks, 13 QB Hits, 2 FF, 64 tackles and 10 TFLs. All well down from last season.

So, did switching sides play a part? Is Todd Bowles using him differently this year than he did last season? Did losing Vea play a part? Or is this just the REAL SHAQ? If it is, he may not be worth $16 mil a year, but he’s still MUCH better than anyone else we’ve got not named JPP.

    JPP is awesome.
    A great Buccaneer.

…….and a better receiver, with missing digits, than 2 of our current RBs.

He better be in the Pro Bowl this year!

  10. #1 BUCFAN Says:

If the Bucs don’t beat KC Monday night, their season is over and very disappointing.

  11. Tampabuscsbro Says:

….buc fan you know that they let 7 teams into the playoffs now right?

and we would be 7-5 I am as disappointed as the next guy with what happened monday night but come on. the only way for us to miss would be if we almost lose out and the bears with no offense went on an absolute tear.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

JPP is getting ready to retire. The fact that Methuselah idiot Brady couldn’t score more than 3 points off his pick is inexcusable. Brady better have a halfway competent game Sunday. And Arians, too. They owe this team big time now, both of them!
