Jamel Dean In Concussion Protocol; Bruce Arians Confident In Cockrell

November 25th, 2020

Jamel Dean

Significant change could be coming to the Buccaneers defense.

No. 2 quarterback Jamel Dean left Monday night’s game with a concussion. In came veteran Ross Cockrell, a veteran who was added to the Bucs’ expanded practice roster in September.

Cockrell got 24 snaps and made a play, a clean tackle for loss in the second half. The 29-year-old was a fourth-round pick of the Bills in 2014, and he’s now with his fifth team.

Bucco Bruce Arians, via his Bucs Total Access show last night, praised Cockrell for being a trustworthy player who’s going to be where he supposed to be on the field.

Dean did not practice today and logic says a Monday night concussion might not leave Dean enough to time to get out of the league’s concussion protocol for Sunday against the Chiefs.

If it’s Cockrell, well, at least he has experience. He did pick off America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, as a Panthers cornerback last season.

Dean looked like he has been playing with a concussion the past three weeks.

I LOVE how every comment of mine has been in concussion protocol for the last 2+ months!

A lot of people gave me crap in here for saying we need DB depth more then pass rush depth.

Curiously, we all knew what he meant anway…….

  13. PolkFan Says:

Much rather move Winfield to the slot and have Mike Edwards take his spot as that midfielder deep roamer type. Smb moves back to outside.

after the hit, on the sidelines he looked like he didn’t even know where he was while walking to the tent…

    He sucked anyways.

  16. Defense Rules Says:

Oh crap, when Dean got his bell rung in the game you could tell things weren’t looking good. I just hope it’s not serious & that he makes it back post haste. Some might rag on him, but he’s holding opponents down to 57% completions this year, better than Carlton Davis (59%) or SMB (78%).

And BTW, Ross Cockrell did fairly decent with Carolina last year (also had a couple good years with Pittsburgh). Had 2 INTs last year and only allowed 55% completions. I’m guessin that he can hold his own when given a chance to start.

After watching the secondary Monday night, I feel like I should be in concussion protocol after banging my head against the wall watching them give up catch after catch after catch……

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So….he was one of the 30 who picked off Jameis last year…..no big deal there…

  19. Pewter Power Says:

Really won’t matter who is in the secondary against the chiefs. They will find a way to shrink to the challenge

  25. ClwJB Says:

Dude had zero agility, straight line speed only – plainly an off coverage corner – cannot play man to man

He looked like a high schooler against grown men before getting the concussion

    Hardly an elite club…

I originally had the Chiefs winning by 7. It keeps going up. Now I got’em at 14.
