DeAngelo Hall: Turn The Clock Back

November 14th, 2020

Run the ball, says former NFL CB.

DeAngelo Hall seems to think he knows why the Bucs were so horrible during the Saints Seal-Clubbing. They got way too cute.

The former Pro Bowl cornerback who now co-hosts the Saturday edition of “Good Morning Football,” seen on NFL Network, believes that with a brand new toy (furniture-tossing Antonio Brown) to add to his collection, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians abandoned playing with the toys that brought him the most joy: the toy tanks he ran with.

In other words, despite all the receivers and Mr. Six Rings at quarterback, the Bucs play their best when they run the ball. Hall said that’s one reason the Bucs pounded the Packers last month.

“When we saw Tampa Bay play Green Bay, we saw Tampa Bay be physical with them,” Hall said. “We saw them run the football. We saw them take their shots when they needed to.

“Now that they got AB, or at least in the one game they had AB, all they wanted to do was throw the ball. We understand you have a new shiny toy. But you just can’t force the football to him.”

Like former Bucs guard Ian Beckles said, Hall noted that without “All-Pro” Ali Marpet (Hall’s words, not Joe’s) “you can’t expect them to sit there and pass protect the whole time.”

The rest of the Saturday co-hosts, former Flyers Ice Girls skater fetching Colleen Wolfe, Mike Garafolo and Michael Robinson also chimed in.

You can see and hear what they all had to say in the NFL Network video below.

I would argue that he is right but we also lost the physicality on defense. We let the taints wr run any route with a cushion never stepped up and physically challenged them.

  2. Nathan Allen Says:

They also need to call better plays and game plan better. You don’t think it’s a coincidence the offense was shut out by a team that employs our former starting QB?

  3. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Saints game was a terrible coaching experience for us.
We were badly outcoached, on both side of the ball.

  4. Joe Says:

    You don’t think it’s a coincidence

    Jameis knows the Patriots playbook?

Jameis decided not to help out his new team in Week 1?

Dennis Allen didn’t know that Donovan Smith is inconsistent until Jameis told him this in November 2020?

    Come on guys.

  5. Mirrormirroronthewall Says:

Where was the blame sharing when Winston was in Tampa?

  6. Jmarkbuc Says:

We ran what, 12 plays in the first half? Don’t think we were trying to be too cute… we were busy getting our a$$ kicked.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

It’s like we’ve learned nothing. Sunday’s game plan was atrocious, and Brady’s execution of it was even worse. It was so bad it should’ve gotten people fired, but instead folks are castrating the OLine & the defense. Why don’t you all just put the blame squarely where it belongs: on the coaching staff (OC, DC AND HC) plus on the QB. Payton humiliated Arians & Leftwich, Allen did the same to Bowles, and Brees was head-and-shoulders better than Brady.

Go back & take a look at just the first half (the game for over long before that half ended). Bucs’ offense had the ball for 7 drives … and scored a big fat goose egg … 4 punts, 2 INTs, 1 out-on-downs.

o 1st Drive: (1) Brady Inc deep to Godwin; (2) RoJo run for 7 yds; (3) Brady inc short to Gronk; (4) Pinion punt.
o 2nd Drive (after Saints score a TD): (1) Inc deep to Godwin; (2) RoJo run 8 yds BUT holding on D Smith; (2 again) Brady comp short to RoJo for 5 yds; (3) Brady comp short to RoJo for 4 yds; (4) Pinion punt.
o 3rd Drive (after LVD recovers Saints fumble): (1) RoJo run for 2 yds; (2) Brady inc deep for Brown; (3) Brady inc short to Gronk; (4) Pinion punt.
o 4th Drive (after Saints score TD): (1) Brady inc short Miller; (2) Brady comp short Godwin for 7 yds; (3) Brady inc deep for Miller; (4) Pinion punt.
o 5th Drive (after Saints score TD): (1) Brady comp short Johnson for 11 yds; (1) Brady short to RoJo intercepted by Saints.
o 6th Drive (after Saints score TD): (1) Brady comp deep to Godwin for 20 yds; (1) Brady comp short to Fournette for 7 yds; (2) Fournette run for no gain; (3) Brady comp short to Brown for 6 yds); (1) Brady comp short to Fournette for 2 yds; (2) Brady comp short to Gronk for 2 yds; (3) Brady inc short to Godwin; (4) Brady inc deep to Gronk … Out on downs
o 7th Drive (after Saints FG): (1) Brady comp short to Brown for 10 yds; (1) Brady comp short to ME13 for 22 yds; (1) Brady deep to Brown is intercepted by Saints.

Brady threw SEVEN deep passes … ONE was complete, FIVE were incomplete, and ONE was intercepted. That’s what I’d call ‘Dumb play-calling’. RoJo ran the ball well his first 2 runs (15 yds), although Donovan’s holding penalty negated the 2nd one (after that they essentially gave up on the run).

Yes the defense couldn’t have stopped a HS football team Sunday, but look at the first 5 Bucs drives: (1) 54 secs; (2) 110 secs; (3) 58 secs; (4) 53 secs; (5) 47 secs. Total yardage gained on those 5 drives: 26 yds. During that timeframe the Bucs’ defense gave up 4 TDs. I’d be surprised if they had time to sit down on the bench before they had to be right back out on the field again.

There has probably never been, in the history of the NFL, a player as annoying as DeAngelo Hall. Maybe Phillip Rivers, but IDK. Hall was awful and managed to stick around because he was a ballhawk (i’ll give him that). If his career is any indication of what his football smarts are like, I say do the exact opposite of what he says. A pre-pubescent retard who’s never watched football can help more than this guy.

You’re never, ever cute when getting your ass beaten.
