Byron Leftwich Talks “Holy Sh**” Monday

November 16th, 2020

Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich

Bucco Bruce Arians remarked how just about every last Buccaneer worked on his day off following the  Dale Mabry Debacle against the Saints.

Of course, that included Tom Brady and his good buddy Bryon Leftwich.

Pontificating Peter King, the uber NBC Sports insider, had a call with Leftwich after yesterday’s Bucs romp in Charlotte about the big bounce-back victory.

King, for his Monday column, wanted to know how Brady handled the hours after one of the worst defeats/showings of his career.

“I wondered how Tom Brady took the awful performance, and what he was like in practice during the week. “The night after the game, I didn’t sleep at all,” Leftwich said. “I don’t think he slept at all. We were up there early the next day. We just looked at each other with these looks like ‘Holy s—.’ Nothing to really say. He’s that type player that’s gonna easily bounce back from these things. He won’t let things linger. He’s been through everything so much that he could pull the young guys along with his leadership, guys who’ve never been part of a game like that.”

King noted Leftwich said he didn’t dissect all the ugly Saints film with his offense. No reason to pound in so much negativity. Apparently, the Bucs offensive coordinator just picked 8 or 10 plays to make his points and it was on to the Panthers.

Joe sees Leftwich as a near lock to get head coaching interviews this offseason. Teams crave coaches who can manage/groom an offense and a young quarterback. If Leftwich shows by the end of the season he can work with a legend, after having a backup lead the league in passing with the third-ranked offense in the NFL, then that will be enough to put him on team radars.

At least until BL starts sucking again on his play calling

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Leftwich will get plenty of interviews…….teams have an incentive & requirement to interview minority prospects……..getting a HC offer is another matter.

  3. John Sinclear Says:

Said it before, and saying it again. If the Glazers are serious about having a winning team, they will find a way ($$$) to keep him on board.

  4. Gofortheface30 Says:

Hey will we get two 3 round compensatory picks if Leftwich gets a head coaching job? *eyeroll*

  5. ModHairKen Says:

It was a good game yesterday. But it does not mean everything is “fixed.”

The 98 yard run does not erase the fumble or dropped pass. David missed tackles. DBs got burned. TB overthrew open WRs.

If this team is going to be elite, they have to treat wins like losses.

Ive been saying all year BL is JC material…

Not good with acronyms bucboi. Does the ‘JC’ in your comment stand for ‘Junior College’? Just asking for a friend.

  9. Allbuccedup Says:

Leftwich will be with the Jets or Jags next year.

    DR

    obviously i meant HC…..

happy to see BL is still proving you wrong….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. Bobby M. Says:

Leftwich is the next Adam Gase. He hasn’t groomed a single young QB, his best year is dependent upon an all time great….AND even then the offense has had some pretty poor showings. The Saints was an obvious whiff, but the Bears and Giants games weren’t very good either. This team has all the talent in the world on offense yet we sputter against playoff caliber teams? That’s on Leftwich….I think he hangs around the league as an offensive coordinator but i dont believe he’ll be a successful HC.

What was BL’s excuse for the NO game?

813bucboi … “happy to see BL is still proving you wrong….”.

Au contraire. RoJo is proving both BA & BL wrong. Ya they stuck with him over Fournette, then gave him FIVE carries in the Saints game. Whoopee. Nothing says ‘I love the running game’ like letting it sit on the bench or using it to pass-block.

If you don’t RUN THE FRIGGIN BALL you’ll have a hard time winning in today’s NFL UNLESS you’ve got a lights-out defense (that makes up for a LOT of offensive sloppiness). We’re not at that point yet bucboi. But we’ll get there. In the meantime, RUN THE FRIGGIN BALL.
