Making Teams Pay For TOs

November 3rd, 2020

Points off takeaways.

Somewhere in a cold, desolate windy cut cornfield in central Illinois, former Bucs coach Lovie Smith is smiling.

Joe has never met a man more obsessed by turnovers than Lovie Smith. For him, nothing else mattered. Not points. Not time of possession. Not tackling. Not sacks.

Turnovers, baby!

Well in 2020, not only are the Bucs feasting on turnovers, they are turning turnovers into points.

Last night Bucco Bruce Arians noted after the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network that getting points off the two Bucs picks saved the night in the 25-23 win over the Giants.

That’s been a theme for the Bucs all season. With 11 interceptions, they’re tied for the most interceptions in the NFL with the Colts.

The Bucs also rank second to only Seattle for points off takeaways. Seattle has 76; the Bucs have 65.

Yeah, the Bucs are doing a helluva job offensively. But the defense is really making teams pay for their errors.

last night was all about keeping it simple on offense and defense….no need to “open” up the play book for a 1-6 team….

bucs wont come out flat in rayjay….

offense and defense will come out blazing!!!!!

stop crying over WINS clowns!!!!…on to NO…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

A bit off-topic, Joe: did any of the players on the 2002 SB defense win DROY?

  3. Casual Observer Says:

813 – I hope your explanation for the blah play is correct. All Buc phases were mediocre. Including the coaching. Big game Sunday – for a turnaround. I am optimistic about that.

    ST did good imo….

imo, it was obvious the staff didnt want to show anything…..the plan was to keep it simple and come out healthy with a WIN….

it wasnt pretty but it worked….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

orlbucsfan – Julius Peppers won it the Buc’s Super Bowl season.

  8. DBS Says:

Bucboi you fool. Nobody is crying about the win. A lot of us lhave concerns about the secondary. Any kind of experience on Daniel’s part and we are blown out. You can try to call it flat or what ever you want. This is not the first and won’t be the last.

I was thinking all week about the Bucs running a vanilla version on offense, playing a 1-6 Giants team and not showing much. But it would have felt a whole lot better if it was a crisp vamilla version than they lackluster product last night. But the silver lining is to be good enough to win when you are not sharp. The Bucs in the past very much resemble the Gmen last night, and that Bucs team would have lost just like the Giants did. GO BUCS!!!!!

Ever seen that Dr. Pepper commercial where the Sheriff nabs the fan that jinxed the field goal attempt by claiming it was a “can’t miss.” That’s how I felt about one of the Joe’s assertions last week that this game would be a cake walk. This is the N Fing L! There is no such thing as a cake walk. The Bucs got lucky last night. Real lucky.
The Bucs didn’t get lucky at all.–Joe
The Giants have good players and Jones was picking apart the Bucs with slants and short wide out passes. His receivers were making great plays and the O-line, even with backups, was clearly running lanes for their backs. Hopefully, the Bucs were just flat last night and that was not symbolic of their future efforts. However, had Jones not gone full Winston on us with the poorly-advised passes, this game would have been a L. So Joe, please don’t jinx the team by prognosticating on outcomes of upcoming games.

Joe..Champaign isn’t a cornfield…but it sure as heck isn’t any Tampa or Chicago. And the cold in the hearts of the Illini fans, because of the play of their football team, outweighs the cold winds across the Illinois flatlands.

  12. Mike C Says:

The G men have been in almost every game, unlike the jets. If the bucs had a game that was this close against them…… then I might worry. It is hard to win games in the NFL and I will gladly take this one.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

    DBS

crying is exactly what you’re doing CLOWN!!!….

if daniel had any kind of experience, the giants wouldnt be a 1win team….

this aint college…we aint playing for “style points”….

when ugly games come, we have to win them…simple as that…and that what we did….

you can keep crying about not “blowing” a team out after a win….obviously its not the 1st time and it wont be the last….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  14. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

All those turnovers but yet letting teams hang around.

  15. Jerry Jones Says:

DBS, you must be cut from the same crotch as ndog and the other hacks, that have mysteriously disappeared.

  16. Jeff Says:

We ALL know what Lovie was doing in that basement. Cranky spanky.

  17. DBS Says:

You fell better screaming that now little man. Like I said. I have a concern about the secondary. It’s not the first and won’t be the last time they get roasted. Had he had Moe experience the naked eye told you if he could could connect we would have been blown out. So a better QB like Brees or PMc can do it easy. They better tighten up. There was nothing vanilla about it. Or you hollering fo Edwards to start no is there. Because that means you are concerned too.!!

  18. DBS Says:

Jerry what exactly are you talking about?

  19. 813bucboi Says:

i want edwards to start because he’s a better player than whitehead simple as that fat mouth…put your best 11 on the field…

you complaining about the secondary after they got 2INTs and made the game saving PB shows your clueless….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  20. DBS Says:

So. You are concerned we don’t have the best out there. Thank you. Have a good day.

  21. DBS Says:

Wher did you run and hide to Jerry? I asked you a question. You made an accusation so ?

  22. Mike C Says:

So does GB have a good QB? Secondary had a pretty good day against him I believe. And again the G girls ain’t that bad.
