Road Woes, Incomplete Games

October 25th, 2020

Raising the bar

Joe learned a valuable lesson about sports watching decades of Brazilian soccer dominance years ago.

The lunatic fans of the country’s national team have no problem booing their beloved team even if they’re winning, say, 4-1 with 16 minutes left in a game. If they’re playing sloppily or (gasp!) taking their foot off the gas and passing it back to the goalkeeper or defenders, out come the ferocious jeers.

It’s not enough to win, the style points matter as does quality of play — because nothing less than a world championship is acceptable and the fans know perfecting their game is the only thing assured to get them there.

The Bucs are in first place and look like a beast of a club coming off the pasting of the Packers 38-10. Joe has nothing to boo about on the field. However, the Bucs have yet to play a complete game this season, 60 minutes of solid and sound football.

Against the Packers, the Bucs defense looked nearly helpless through the first quarter as the offense sputtered. Aaron Rodgers carved up the defense and Green Bay even busted a big run en route to a 10-0 lead. The happy ending was there, but Bucco Bruce Arians admitted through last week that the Bucs came out flat, which surprised him.

So in the spirit of a Super Bowl standard, Joe wants to see the Bucs play a powerful and complete 60 minutes today in Vegas. No more stretches that make you scratch your head.

That does not mean a shutout is the only worthy result. But a wire-to-wire win without a major hiccup would send a strong message to the rest of the NFC and fans. How bout jumping out to a 10-0 lead and cruising to a 31-14 victory with no major gaffes or lulls, along with sound special teams.

Sounds good to me. The team is certainly capable.

  2. MCS Says:

The comparison to futbol mania is warranted, a little bit of that type of expectation is due, I concur.

  3. BigMacAttack Says:

They need to stomp Chucky in the ground. This game is personal, the Raiders are tough, and Jon still holds a grudge. It’s time to put him in his place.

  4. The Punisher Says:

We just dominated the #1 team in the league at the time, but we are now complaining that the Bucs didn’t dominate the 1st quarter as well ….don’t get too greedy Bucs fans. Last year, we would’ve just been elated to beat a great team.

  5. Hawk Says:

Don’t give the punt team any hope of seeing the field.

  6. Sport Says:

Agreed. Looking forward to a run of complete games right into Feb.

On the flip side, how about a 4-2 record not playing our best. Have t seen that since Brooks,Sapp and Lynch were wreaking havoc.

    Now it’s Suh, David, White.

    Go Getem Bucs!

    In BA I Trust!

  8. TampaTown Says:

Perfectly said. It’s time to take the next step. No more excuses.

  9. Bird Says:

Have you guys noticed that ndog has disappeared ?

    The winstonites are not posting
    Or posting under new names

They will be out to say i told you so if bucs lose today

Meanwhile real buc fans are excited
Raiders at home beat the chiefs.
    This is no cupcake game

  10. CalBucsFan Says:

Gruden’s downfall in TB was because he couldn’t get a long with Rick McKay and then his next GM was Bruce Allen. The guy rode on the fame and success coattails of his dad, George Allen, and was mediocre at best.

  11. Rio de Janeiro Bucs Fan Says:

As a Brazilian guy, I can confirm Joe’s words. When it comes to our National Soccer Team, winning is not enough. The “Magic Yellow Jerseys” must honor our past and display our superiority in the sport every single minute of every single game.
Brazil is the current Olympic Champion, but we want to win the 2022 World Cup undefeated, nothing less.
Regarding to our beloved Bucs, I’m feeling good about this Raiders game. I think the team set a new standard against the Packers.
Some mistakes will happen, but I do expect a great performance overall.
    Go Bucs!!!

  12. tickrdr Says:

    That would be awesome, Joe!

Then we can talk about the draft at the end of October again.
Only this time, we can dream of drafting 32nd in the 1st round next year!

    Test

  14. Ivan The Insider Says:

    Hey Bird,

When Ndog slipped up and posted what appeared to be his real name last week, which he did and no one else, was it just me or did it seem like this site went and removed any mention of it as well as all of your references to that name in some of your comments?

  15. JimmyJack Says:

Gotta expect our passrush to make life hell for Carr today. Anything less is unacceptable. They Raiders are short a tackle and their OL is less prepared then we are……..Oh and I hear their defense arent all that good either. Brady and the offense should have no problems putting up points today.

    GO BUCS WOOOO!!!!!!

  16. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Caught myself saying “STRIIIKE” each time Brady was releasing the ball. Reminded me of Naked Gun with Leslie Neilson umpiring behind the plate. Lol

  17. Rayjay1122 Says:

I lived and worked in Fortaleza Brazil back in 2000 and that was the first time I ever witnessed people playing beach volleyball with no hands. It was like Soccer volleyball. It was very impressive.

  18. Darin Says:

Lets not get crazy. Rarely does any team do that on the road. Just win baby

  19. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Under suspension protocol, can AB get the playbook, join team meeting, and practice the other the team?

  20. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Wow- practice with the team? ^^^

  21. JimmyJack Says:

74 I dont know the rules but remembering back to when Jameis Winston was suspended Im pretty sure the answer is no. AB cannot be around the team.

  22. AJ Says:

This is the Buccaneers people!!!! Wins have been so rare around these parts. Not sure why Joe is nit picking how we win. Just keep getting better and be a complete team around January…

  23. Cobraboy Says:

@74: because of the Covid protocol, he cannot be anywhere near the team, and because of his suspension, he cannot participate in any team activities, or have contact with players & coaches. I assume that means playbook, too.

  24. #1bucfan Says:

Today and the rest of the season the Bucs need to show us that this is a new team and that win against the packers is the new standard so we all can finally put our Guard down. Show me Tampa. Let’s go Bucs. Change the tides

  25. lambeau Says:

I believe AB clears Covid and can be in meetings Wednesday and then practice on field Monday 11/2 (although MNF makes it Tues or Wed.)
