Offensive Line, Defensive Line Get “F” Grades

October 2nd, 2020

Happy times ahead

Those who listen to today’s Ira Kaufman Podcast will understand this very well.

Joe wasn’t the only guy who watched the Chargers lose to Carolina on Sunday.

Sports columnist Nick Canepa of the San Diego Union Tribune also studied the game and graded each unit of the Chargers during their home game in Los Angeles.

Here was his assessment of their trenches– with a couple of extra sentences from Joe.

Offensive line: F

Played the way they were expected to play last week: Not well. Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner practiced, but he was inactive. RT Bryan Bulaga returned and got beat early for a strip sack that became a FG. Dan Feeney had a crucial face mask, as did his backup, Ryan Groy. ((Joe will add that Bulaga left the game with a back injury and his backup, Trey Pipkins, was downright dreadful. The Chargers pass blocking was some ugly stuff, but their run blocking was ok. Joe would have given them a “D.”))

Defensive line: F

Defense couldn’t get off the field (despite no Christian McCaffrey to worry about), couldn’t create a turnover, and offered no pressure despite Carolina missing two O-line starters. Stout in the red zone, though. Without Joey Bosa bookend Melvin Ingram, basically had no pass rush vs. an O-line missing two starters. Bosa got his only sack late — and he can’t stop jumping offside.

So this is what the Bucs are up against on Sunday at the Den of Depression, a team with struggling and wounded trenches, including Bosa nursing an injury.

In contrast, the Bucs’ trenches are healthy, talented and have plenty of experience playing in soggy hot Tampa weather.

If games are won in the trenches, the Bucs should be 3-1 by Sunday afternoon.

Another though battle for the pampered one. Just like his days in the AFC least.

Realisto is preparing the den for his puppy. Soon they will both hibernate.

    Bye bye puppy dog. Lol

Another cry baby comment from the cry baby himself.

Game will be over at halftime

  6. Casual Observer Says:

I like your optimism, Joe. I agree, but be careful. Minimize penalties!

  7. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog is like that dog in a fight with his tail between his legs. That’s when you know it’s over he’s got nothing left.

Perfect article for NDOG and El Buco Realistic

    Love this coaching staff.

  9. The Coroner Says:

“If games are won in the trenches, the Bucs should be 3-1 by Sunday afternoon”.
Yeah. I have similar thoughts about my fantasy team, but then they have to play the game.

  10. Old Sombrero Says:

    Just win the damn game.

  11. Canadabucsfan Says:

Lets Face it. Ndog is either in love or related to winston. Time to move on pal. Whats done is done.

  12. Ndog Says:

Not sure what you guys are talking about I got plenty left as Jameis has many years left to play whereas this team will be lucky to have a shot next year. So I know you all live in that here and now and you have the short term memory like a bunch of 5-year-olds, but I’m playing the long game baby and odds are I’m going to win.

  13. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Ndog, Brady winning a Super Bowl or two would strengthen your point of being pampered and lucky. Winning 6 is an entirely different ballgame.

  14. Eric Says:

I thought I was a HUGE Jameis supporter and I still very much hope he makes it and does well and proves everyone he was as good as I hoped he would be but NDOG, you make yourself look like a slob-knobbing idiot. WEIRD LOL.

  15. Ndog Says:

Sorry Eric I simply don’t like liars, and people that talk crap when they have no idea what they are talking about.

People make valid points I usually ignore, but when they say something untrue or just plain stupid I let them know. So really it’s very simple don’t lie, or say something moronic and I leave it alone otherwise I’m going to point out the truth.

  16. Jason Says:

You guys do realize that Ndog is actually Jonah Winston right? Lol.

  17. Chris K Says:

Ndog, you want to make love with Jameis. Tell me I’m lying 😂

  19. SB Says:

But…….but………..but…..but if only our Previous ‘qb’ could get this lucky!!!!

Maybe he could have already thrown 5 picks this yr

  20. SB Says:

Hey Ndog……These are “FACTS” and not cherry picked either. Through first 3 games.
    Completion % up 5%
Completion % of throws of over 20 air yards up 5%
    Redzone TD% up to 80% vs 27%
    INT % DOWN by 50%

LOVING the QB ‘downgrade’ as some idiots call it.

  21. SB Says:

    Argue THAT or STFU!

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I find it interesting to have an article with F grades for Oline & Dline and to have D Smtih’s photo….

  23. SB Says:

Now don’t you go starting anything TBBF! 🙂

  24. orlbucfan Says:

According to the weather crowd, Sunday will be very wet at RJS. Ugh! It could also get real nasty aka stormy. Glad I will be holed up at the casa listening to Bucs radio. Go Mighty Bucs!! 🙂

Love the lack of mudslinging and name calling here at this Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan site. The camaradeie! The fellowship! The pure love!

Us fake fans and true trolls can hardly get a our slimy football comments in edgewise. It reminds of the spirit of civility that prevails at certain debates.

    Lol tbbf same!

I was thinking “damn, I’m pretty harsh on D Smith myself, but I wouldn’t have given him an F” haha.

  30. Hodad Says:

Truth be told, these are the games, home games that Jameis used to choke in. I feel much better having the Brady led Bucs then the Winston led Bucs. Feel bad for fans who can’t just enjoy this. Us taking the first quarter of the season 3-1 with a big win at home. These are the games Jameis couldn’t deliver.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    Bring on 3-1.

  32. Jeff Says:

22-21 Chargers. Bucs notorious for reading their own press clippings. They get out coached and out worked on Sunday.

  33. David Says:

    34-13.
Bucs line on both sides of the ball are going to kick the chargers ass. It will be a beat down
