Backroom Intrigue

October 23rd, 2020

“Bryan, Joel, remember I live on the left coast. I’m tired of getting texts from Brady at 4 a.m. my time every night to sign Antonio Brown. Let’s get this over with so I can get a good night’s sleep. Bad enough I have to pay a fortune each year to greasy Gavin Newsome in taxes.”

Joe smells something going on here.

As John Breech has pointed out on CBS Sports, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians and nutcase/cancer Antonio Brown are not exactly bosom buddies. The two worked together in Pittsburgh when Arians was the Steelers offensive coordinator and when rumors surfaced earlier this year that park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting Bucs quarterback Tom Brady was trying for Arians and AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to sign Brown, Arians was fully against it.

It seemed Brown wasn’t a fan of Arians, either, taking to Twitter to call him a “kangroo” and also a diva (this coming from a supreme diva).

Well, local sports radio czar J.P. Peterson turned to social media this evening to say he knows Arians wants no part of Brown.

So what is going on here? Did Brady, in his quest for the Bucs to sign Brown, stomp on Arians’ scalp (knocking off his Kangol hat) and go straight to Team Glazer to get Brown?

No one has told Joe this but you do not have to be stuck on an island without internet access to figure out Arians has control of the roster. So the only person(s) in the organization he cannot say “no” to is Team Glazer.

Is this what is going on here? Brady made a sales pitch to Team Glazer and therefore Team Glazer ordered the Bucs to bring in Brown?

This is all very interesting to Joe.

Signing a guy here to prevent him from playing for another team who may or may not ever even encounter the Bucs in the playoffs is the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard in a while.

Brown is a cancer. He has proven it multiple times in multiple places. This team has enough good wide receivers and is doing just fine.

Not so stupid. This is a page right out of the George Steinbrenner playbook. He did this a lot, and admitted it publicly.

Problem is, you are dealing with a supreme a-hole.

  3. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

Keep a tight leash on him. If he screws up and Evans or Godwin is 100%, cut him. Do a Keyshawn on him if needed!

Here we go more fuel for the Realist. He should be posting soon……………

  4. SB Says:

I know I just added Antonio in my $ league and dumped John Brown from Buffalo.

I am totally against this move unless like Joe suggested in an earlier article that maybe ME13 and CG14 aren’t as healthy as lead on.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

You have to measure the benefit……replacing our 5th receiver with AB….vs. Brown having a negative impact on the chemistry of the team…

The unknowns here is AB & his awareness that this very well is his last chance & the strong influence from Tom Brady.

We simply cannot know for certain…..I’m leaning toward trusting Brady.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

    It’s really not complicated.

Brady has thrown the ball to Watson and knows he sucks.
Brady has thrown the ball to Cyril Grayson and knows he sucks.

The Bucs LOST in Chicago because of WR depth. Scotty Miller is not an NFL starting WR – he was completely shut out in that game. Evans has played the entire season so far on one leg. Godwin has missed half the games.

Wow, are people paying attention to what is actually happening on the field?

Last year Godwin and Evans both missed the final games of the year, what happens if that happens again? The Bucs are over if Miller and Watson are starting.

That is the entire story. Brady wants him, Bruce trusts Brady to keep him under control. If Brady can’t do it, you cut him. If you don’t trust Brady then why is he here, why did you throw away your 25-year with HOF pace stats to win it all if you’re afraid to try to win it all?

    It’s really really simple stuff.

  7. SB Says:

I just read that we reached a one yr agreement with brown already.
But…………since I will be in moderation Again, every post, I won’t be the first one you heard it from

  8. All lives matter Says:

Then again AB could come in and behave and play lights out. Let’s all hope that’s how it ends up rather than be pessimistic from the start.

  9. Frankinthe813 Says:

JP Peterson has been fired everywhere..no one cares what he says

  10. Christopher Schiefen Says:

All JP admitted reporting was the old Arians comments (and you fell for it as new news…congrats, got the click ‘tho).

  11. #1bucfan Says:

I’m not a fan. He’s talented there is no denying it. His footwork is some of the best in the game and he makes the tough grabs but still not a fan. Idk if this is a good ideal

  12. AtlBuc Says:

Joe, things have changed. Receivers 1-4 are banged up and this move will give them a chance to heal

  13. rrsrq Says:

Punt returns may have just gotten better

  14. Bucsfan81 Says:

I don’t care if both Godwin and Evans are hurt. I would take my chances without brown. This guy is bad news. I would rather lose than win with this guy.

  15. SufferingSince76 Says:

Do you really think AB can come in a third of the way through the season and automatically turn the team against each other? That is highly unlikely. If he can, they aren’t as tight knit as believed. I am fairly sure he will be on his best behavior, as he will be on a very short leash. Everyone off the ledge. It isn’t that bad.

  16. stpetebucsfan Says:

Are they going to sign another football? If and when CG14 and ME13 get healthy along with Gronk and the RB’s…Scotty Miller? Just seems like there are more targets than rounds to feed them.

    .

I’m willing to bet that there are more than one member of this team who are not happy with the news.

It doesn’t have to be AB’s behavior that kills the team chemistry.

  18. August 1976 Buc Says:

Not only keep away from Seattle, but how about the SIMPLE FACT OF ACTUALLY COMPETING FOR A SUPER BOWL. Either play to win or continue the crap that has been put on the field for most of the 44 years I have watched this team play. I became a fan in 1976 because the NFL started a team in Tampa. So that means I have watched a whole lot of garbage football and the team being non competitive. SUPER BOWL OR BUST!! GO BUCS!!!!

  19. B.D Says:

Wasnt Leftwich a teammate in Pittsburg?

maybe he had something to do with it also?

nobody brings this up but I would think Byron knows him better than Brady, or Bruce

Is this Peterson dude the guy from Seinfeld?
