Arians Wants A Better First 15

October 29th, 2020

Bucco Bruce Arians

The Bucs have dominated the past two games but there’s a trend emerging that Bucco Bruce Arians wants to change.

The head coach talked to WFLA sports chief Dan Lucas about it this week and it’s about the Bucs’ slow starts against the Packers and Raiders.

Arians wants the defense to start faster and acknowledge that opponents often throw their best scripted series of 15 plays and then the game rolls on from there. The Bucs weathered the storm and then later countered with their own category 5 hurricane.

“The first 15 they won the last two weeks, but the last 45 we won. I’ll take that every time,” Arians said.

Arians didn’t like his offense’s early 3-and-out in Las Vegas, but that’s all just nitpicking when you’re leading the NFL in points scored.

Yeah sucks we always seem to need to get burned a couple times before we settle down

  2. Lamarcus Says:

Who cares BA. Just win baby

  3. Hawk Says:

    @ Coburn
But it’s better than getting burned a couple of times before we get burned a couple more. And then shoot ourselves in the foot for good measure.

a little nitpicking on both sides….

    but i agree…

i’d like to see the offense at least flip the field on our 1st possession if we cant score 3 or 7…. then have the defense force a 3andout…

BL and bowles are the best in the nfl…they’ll figure it out….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. Cannon Says:

That first drive in Vegas was submarined by a missed throw by Brady to Gronk.

    Sh1t happens 🙂

  6. 123urout Says:

BUCS should have more play action pass.

  7. ocala Says:

The Giants are good at stopping the run. The Bucs should pass the ball often early in this game. If the Bucs do that most likely they should be able to run the ball plenty in the second half.

AwShbucs exactly! We need some real time play action instead of automatically running on 1st, like once in a while making the very first play of the game a deep shot just to put them on their heels from the jump and then don’t let up. Shake it up some on offense, and on defense stop with the soft zone coverage and start some press man. The boys are big enough to keep receivers on the line and I get tired of watching dbs standing around while receivers run right by them as they look upfield then catch the ball right behind them.

Yall worry about that 1stQ. Im looking for the 4th.

Im still evaluating Brady because he hasent goten many do or die opportunities. Hes had one in Chicago and failed. He is 0 for 1, he forgot wwmgich down it was.

Im waiting for Brady to get another game winning drive. Im expected him to be 1for 2 afterward.

Yall want a Super Bowl? Those are the moments where you win them!

  10. SlyPirate Says:

Early in the year we outscored teams early but gave away the lead late. BA made that the focus and now we dominate the second half.

Now he wants to return to form on early leads. I like it if we can keep our second half dominance.

  11. DoooshLaRue Says:

Hey Bruce, I hear ya man…… but, if you want to feel better fast, just watch the first quarter of just about any of our games last year and I guarantee the lack of picks/6s will have you praising the current state of our offense!

    BINGO!!!!!

thats was a 1st down play action pass to gronk…brady missed him….cant blame the OC or playcall for that….

    GO BUCS!!!!

I can’t lie I was totally shocked we went play action on the 1st play against the Raiders. It was a welcomed change even though Brady missed Gronk. I love how Rojo is running and we still haven’t seen any misdirection to Miller but I’m pretty sure when AB hits the field we’ll see some he’s better at making a guy miss than Miller is. I think once Miller gains a bit more confidence and can make a guy miss he’s going to be very deadly. Right now he’s got the speed but no shake to his game. Something he can learn from AB.

  14. Defense Rules Says:

Oh this is humorous Joe; BA wants the DEFENSE to start faster. Not the OFFENSE, but the DEFENSE.

Look at the start of the Packers game. Pack gets the ball 1st and runs 10 plays in almost 5 mins, but our defense holds them to a FG. Bucs get the ball & our offense goes 3-and-out (run-pass-run-punt) in less than 2 mins.

Pack gets the ball back and runs another 12 plays in over 7 mins, and scores a TD. Bucs offense gets the ball after the kickoff & goes 7-and-out this time (pass-run-run-pass-run-pass-pass-punt), eating up a little shy of 3 mins.

Out comes our probably exhausted defense, and they’re mad. Rodgers throws 2 incomplete passes, then Dean intercepts him for a Pick-6. After the kickoff Rodgers is at it again … 2 plays then he’s picked by Edwards who takes it back to the 2-yd line, after which RoJo punches it in.

Bucs up 14-10 at that point, thanks to … oh ya, the Bucs DEFENSE. But ya BA, the DEFENSE needs to start faster. Heck it took ’em a whole 17 mins to humble the Pack & put up 14 pts in the process. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Bucs offense ran 10 plays plus 2 punts and ate up almost 5 whole mins. I wonder if MAYBE our offense should start faster & give our defense a little more time to rest between series. Just a thought …

playcaliing in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters have imlroved dramitically in the last two weeks. First quarter is still pathetic

  16. Lakelandsteve Says:

I know everyone is celebrating at how great the Bucs have played the last couple of games and some of the pundits are claiming we are in the Super Bowl, but we need to take a step back and look at who we are playing and how they lost. I know we have way more talent than the Giants but I think all there losses have been by just a few points. So the Bucs better not be paying attention to all the press and realize that this team can beat us. Remember, you are never as good as you look or think you are. If the Bucs play hungry and with some intensity and a sense of urgency they should handle this team, but if they don’t look out.

  17. Mike Says:

In the first quartered, Too many running play on the first down, they should split 50:50 then the defense cannot predict it.

  18. Kenneth Mcallister Says:

We need to come out swinging in the first half win the game in the first half that will take alot of pressure off the offense and defense.

  19. JustBucNwin Says:

Play calling is still suspect!! Run on damn near every 1st down and under utilizing our stars! Why run with McCoy up the middle against the Packers and not put him on a wheel route? Why don’t we put Fornette and Jones in the back field as a rocket back? We lack creativity and could put up a lot more points with this squad! I am not sold on BL!

  20. Kobe Faker Says:

“The ONLY thing Leftwich has done better

    Is listen to Brady”

  21. Aham26 Says:

BL could be just feeling out the defense just like the first round in boxing

  22. Cajun 69 Says:

Let’s just keep our heads in the game play every minute like your loosing start out blazing finish blazing stay hyped up be careful your not to hyped and loose the ball every one just play your asses off lets WIN A Supper Bowl Ring at Home and make history no one can or will EVER Forget Go Bucs Go!!!
