Playing With Tommy

September 7th, 2020

Peter Schrager of NFL Network

This really shouldn’t have surprised Joe, but Joe sure loves to hear it.

Last week NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, a closet Bucs fan, broke down how running back Leonard Fournette landed in Tampa.

As Schrager noted, it is rare that a top-five draft pick would be released before his rookie contract ended, especially a star running back who just ran for over 1,000 yards.

When news broke Fournette was being released, it sent AC/DC-loving Bucs general manager Jason Licht into a whirlwind as he began calling several teams trying to find dirt on Fournette, per Schrager. Basically, Jacksonville didn’t want to pay Fournette’s price tag since the team is Tanking For Trevor and the Jags were not going to bring Fournette back anyway.

See Schrager’s full report in the video below. He says there were two dealbreakers for Fournette. One, he wanted to stay in Florida. Two, he wanted to play with a quarterback named “Tommy.”

How cool is it that now players actually want to come to Tampa Bay, and not just for the paycheck?

Please don’t wake me, I am loving the dream I am having…

  2. PSL Bob Says:

I’m dreaming too, but think of this. Brady leads the Bucs to a perfect season, winning the SB in the team’s home stadium. Talk about cementing his place as the greatest QB of all time! The offense certainly has the weapons to be dominating. We just have to hope the defense can hold its own this year.

  3. Jason Says:

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that a previous article about signing a qb to practice squad has over 250 comments?

  4. Jason Says:

Joe. Just curious, but is joebucsfan.com also experiencing the Brady Bump?

  5. gp Says:

    Jason
The majority of those comments were arguments about a former QB

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe says JBF does far better when Bucs are winning…..and I suspect it’s doing far better when fans think they will win.

With the nationwide hype on the Bucs the entire off season, it stands to reason that JBF would benefit.

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s like the “glory years”. Yesterday, they aired SB 37 on TV. What a team that was!
Players want to be part of something. Why not here? A historically awful franchise on the precipice of becoming a contender?
The GOAT has a lot to do with it.

  8. Ndog Says:

Thanks for noticing that Jason and that just points out what I’ve been trying to say since day one. That’s where the passion lies you probably won’t ever see your comment thread with over 250 about any random player that we brought in that no one has an emotional attachment to. That’s my point.

  9. El Buco Realisto Says:

The next GM should take notes, on how to keep the hype for the sheep!!!!!!!!! If the next GM wants a 10 year pass, he should do the following!!!!!!! Sign any and all old free agents past their prime!!!!!!! Hire someone in the front office that played during the Tampa Two days!!!!!!!! Fire a BS con artist that is overrated head coach that will always pass the blame and finger point!!!!!!!!!! Have no “real” plan of building a team, but be very reactionary to the sheep’s issue of the day even though it is a year or two too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Brandon Says:

Hey Joe, your boy Florio is picking the Bucs to win it all… not excited by that news as he is among the least insightful of all of the talking heads, though he does do a good job digging up news. He has a very long piece on the team and is worth a link.

  11. Brandon Says:

I guess that was King at Profootballtalk… not Florio. King is still better than Florio. He knows the game a little better than Florio.

  12. SteveK Says:

    Go Bucs!

I have an emotional attachment to winning, and a yearning for another Lombardi trophy for the Bucs!

Players are only part of a team, and a winning team is all any Buccaneer fan should want.

  13. Bucsfan951 Says:

    @Brandon

Is florio still locked in his basement? I had to stop following him when he talked about covid constantly.

  14. Joe in Michigan Says:

Ndog: You failed to mention that several of the 250 posts are the people that are tired of your shtick.

  15. gp Says:

    Joe in Michigan
Quite frankly, I try to skip past those who continue the argument with him too.
Ignoring him will cut down his posts considerably!

  16. Youngbucs Says:

See this is what ndog and others don’t understand players wanting to come here is a two-way street. Brady has Changed the perception of our team. He’s made it easier on management to make moves!!!!!!

  17. Joe in Michigan Says:

Good call, gp, it’s what I normally do. Ndog called Bruce Arians a liar for talking in “coach speak” at times. He/she (Ndog) posted a week ago that he/she would NEVER post on here again, because everyone is ignorant other than him/her and Realisto.

    True statement, Youngbucs.

  18. Pewter Power Says:

What say you Bucs fans, 4 games in before El Buco Realisto changes the name to avoid further embarrassment?

  19. JimmyJack Says:

I count 18 terrible comments in this section.

  20. Bucsfan77 Says:

Ndog and realist are are just trolls speaking out thier arse just to hear themselves talk hoping it brings out someones anger. Neither are bucs fan let alone go to any games. They are like the panhandlers one every exit, just ignore them and hope they get hit by traffic.

  21. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Bucsfan77: Hahaha, true!

  22. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

Realisto and his chiwawa will hibernate by this time next week.

  23. Bird Says:

    Joe in michigan

Yah. Its smart to just ignore Nslob
None of these players would have come here with iameis at qb
    Brady is the deal breaker

Otherwise we would be over paying to get guys here.

  24. gp Says:

    Bird Says:
*Otherwise we would be over paying to get guys here.*

You mean over paying them to ‘Retire” here, Right?

  25. Mike Says:

I found this site due to Tommy pump!
