Inside Brady’s Bucs Commitment

September 10th, 2020

There’s a somewhat regular guy in Tampa who had the good fortune of watching Tom Brady practice football for countless hours through spring and into the summer.

He’s Joseph Seivold, the headmaster at Berkeley Prep school in Tampa, where Brady held private workouts with teammates starting in early April.

Part of the story is chronicled in a nicely done and long Brady-Tampa feature in the New York Times. The story claims Seivold watched nearly every Brady session that began April 4 with just Brady’s trainer, Chris Godwin, Scotty Miller and Cameron Brate.

Seivold remembers that one of Brady’s former teammates had made a comment about the quarterback having lost pace off his balls. At the next day’s workout, he said, Brady whipped the ball harder and harder with each throw as Guerrero tracked the velocity with a radar gun app on his phone.

“Just throw after throw, trying to top the clock, if you will, to prove to himself and maybe to others that he could still throw a hard ball,” Seivold said.

Only Brady knows what drives him, whether he feels he must prove anything now that he is untethered from Bill Belichick and energized by a fleet of superlative receivers. For a man whose football legacy is winning championships, it stands to reason that a Super Bowl hosted in his new city would be an added enticement.

Overall, it was an interesting look at Brady, who seems to like his Tampa lifestyle despite all the gawkers outside his home.

Joe’s not sure any of this leads to wins, but it’s great hype and insight, and it sure was good to read how impressed Rondé Barber was watching Brady during training camp.

Three more days!

Joe should look at Tom Brady’s win loss record to see what type of competitor the Bucs have at quarterback.

A terrible year for him is 10-6.

  2. Hodad Says:

Joe, do you think it sticks in Brady’s craw that he’s never mentioned as an MVP candidate? I think it really eats at him that Mahomes, Watson, Murray, Jackson are all mentioned by the media as league MVP, but Brady is never even considered for that honor. Me thinks he’s out to prove the doubters wrong.

I’m not to worried about the fear that Brady has lost his zip on the ball. I recall the same talk with B. Johnson. He was not as old, but Brady’s clearly in really good shape. He is the X factor. He is the GOAT.

So I’m extremely fired up over seeing the GOAT and the Bucs this weekend!

To add a little fuel, if you have been over at Profootball Talk today, Florio predicts the Bucs over the Pats in the SB. Another picks the Bucs to go to the SB but lose, and most all predict the Bucs getting to the NFC Championship Game.

I don’t think I’ve seen that kind of optimism from “outsiders” since 2002.

Scare as he11 about this weekend’s game.

Radar app on your phone??? Phones don’t have radar, cameras yes, radar no. Guessing it uses the camera….i want this app now

  5. HeyItsAdam Says:

You keep Brady for this all-in year.

Next year you make a run at Dak, Aaron Rogers or you try and bring back a discounted Jameis who is on a 1 year deal.

  6. SB Says:

I don’t see us winning this Sunday. Sure as he!! would be awesome. Too many new moving parts IMO by week 4 or so I think we will be unstoppable

  7. Mitch Says:

SB I agree. It would be a great and welcomed surprise for us to win opening weekend. I also think it will take a few weeks for the team to click. I just keep reminding myself the saints swept Tampa during the year the Bucs won the Super Bowl!

  8. BigHog Says:

YOU PEOPLE, This not about commitment, he’s done all ther is to do in this league, every QB that comes into this league hooks up with a head coach and one should feel fortunate to have a long ride with one another…it means something is going the right way, so he can still throw it on time says you people, question is where will his will power be when those 270 to 300 pounders start laying the SMACKDOWN ON HIS CANDY ASS!! The only commitment here was to get back some of that tax mony given to the state of NEW ENGLAND (home of the crab-cake eaters)!! Is it lunch time yet? HENNY AND HOG..get yo-self some! TAKE THE MONY BRADY….and run!!!

i think we get the win week1…

BUCS are getting all the hype but most the media pick the saints to win the division….saints will come in over confident…..and they wont have the crowd to pump them up….imo i think they come out flat and we jump on them early…they make a small run but SMB gets a pick and we run the clock out with rojo as he gains confidence….BUCS win 27-17

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. BillyBucFan Says:

We split with NO every year except last year with Jameis Winston.
I know how good NO is, but if we can win with Fitzpatrick, we can win with Brady.

Thinking it’s going to take time is not foundationly correct when you have a QB that can read defenses.

Plus if the run game is better, all TB has to do is hand it off.

I actually think the Bucs win by 10.

  12. Roy T. Buford Says:

I’m fortunate to come here and see guys post like Big Hog. For example, I learned today that New England is a state, and that Brady is a candy a$$. Don’t even have to think more on the logic. smdh.

Saints are going to puke all over themselves after the Bucs embarrass them. I only wish that there would be people there to see it.

What is wrong with these morons that go and gawk at a house because someone loves there? Must be the dumbest of the dumbest.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

I’m hoping for the Super Bowl of course.

    I won’t be disappointed with a playoff appearance though….

    Wild card or whatever.

It still amazes me that Brady’s even here. A Buc.

    Go Bucs!!

I was intrigued by this and checked it out. It’s sketchy. You have to plug in a value for the distance, then you manually push the start and stop stop button for the time value, like a manual stopwatch. Very imprecise, and all the app does is a simple calculation.

There is one app which seem to be the real deal, because it requires you to purchase separate hardware (the actual radar device), which begs the question, why does it even bother connecting to your phone instead of just providing a display of its own?
