“He’ll Start Playing More”

More work coming

Did the Bucs go all-in to beat the Saints, or is there a lack of confidence when it comes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ depth at outside linebacker?

There’s no clear answer, and the two premises may not be connected. But Joe can confirm that Jason Pierre-Paul played 96 percent of the defensive snaps against the Saints while Shaq Barrett logged 88 percent. That pace is not advisable and likely unsustainable for either player. Keep in mind the Bucs hope to have JPP and Shaq dominating in January.

So Joe asked defensive coordinator Todd Bowles yesterday about the guy behind them on the depth chart, Anthony Nelson, who played just three snaps in New Orleans.

“JPP and Shaq usually go until we think they need a breather, and they were in pretty good shape right there,” Bowles said. “We didn’t have that many plays starting out, so they were rearing to go and they were good to go. We really didn’t need to give them a breather, so Nelson didn’t get that much time. But he’ll start playing more.”

Joe expects Bowles’ prediction will come true, and Nelson will be spotted a lot more as the Bucs move out of the air conditioning and into the Den of Depression to face the Panthers on Sunday.

Nelson will be an X-factor at some point this season, Joe believes, so Joe hopes the inexperienced second-year guy really gets his feet wet on Sunday and makes a play.

Dude doesn’t have the mentality…. did you see the Trent brown road grader this past weekend? We have a serious problem on our team with attitude. Not that it’s a bad attitude but we don’t have the dawgs and grit. Does Nelson look like he could win a fight against anyone on our d line? Or better yet who on our offensive line is a bad arse? Jensen and Wirfs. Everyone else plays scared.

Nelson is 6’7″ 270, pretty sure he would rag doll your bitch ass, don’t let the baby face fool you

As we have seen this week, the hype has faded away as the morning dew. Now, it’s just what’s left of the Bucs after injuries. Super Bowl type teams have grit. Do the Bucs? We’ll see…

Stonedbuc – lay off the crystal meth guy. As much as the term “boomer” makes me cringe, because it’s said by low iq 21yr old libs with no life experience but think they know how the world works, but that’s the most boomer-ish thing I’ve read on here. “Needs more grit.” *Eyeroll.* Did you not see them toss around Kamara? Did you not see them hold the saints to only 140 yards by start of 4th quarter? Emotion wise, their defense could not have been any more hyped, especially Devin white. They were hitting hard and getting in peoples faces. The overreaction after one week is mind numbing

I heard Nassib had a good game for the Raiders. Another team Capt. young, and promising gone. We’re all in on the old dudes, JPP, Suh, McCoy who we kept over ST’s capt. Dare. B.A. running practice from a golf cart, would it hurt his fat Arse to walk a bit? Watching the game last night I was impressed with both young QB’s. Both offenses looked to be moving at a different speed then we did. Long way to go, but it’s a young mans game for both coaches, and players.

    My main takeaway:

We looked prepared, but not polished.

  7. TOM Says:

GeeWhiz, give Nelson a chance before you execute him.

This is where the rubber meets the road. Need to see mental toughness on both sides of the line of scrimmage!

If they can show physicality in the trenches, we will win games.

He doesn’t have the mentality? WTF is that supposed to mean and how are you privy to this info that nobody else is? It doesn’t matter what you think Nelson LOOKS like and whether he could win a fight… it’s football, jackass.

oh, and poor take… you called Wirfs a “bad arse”,.. even he would disagree with your incorrect commentary on him… he has a nice guy reputation and defends it… you’re just too stupid to actually pay attention and think you have some great insight because you saw a pic of the guy’s face… brilliant! You win stupidest post of the week.

Yes… This kid well be good!! Better than nassib was on this team

Agreed TOM. People around here jump way too fast.

  12. Joe in Michigan Says:

So Nassib is an All-Pro Superstud now that he had .5 of a sack in his first game of 2020? He’s okay, just as Nelson will probably be okay.

  13. Joe in Michigan Says:

If Nelson doesn’t have the requisite bend for the edge, the Bucs can fatten him up and make a DE out of him.
