Tyler Johnson Is Injured

August 5th, 2020

The rookie is sidelined

Bad news from Bucco Bruce Arians today.

The head coach chatted with Joe and local media and the topic of the No. 3 receiver arose.

Arians noted that Scotty Miller looks good and has added 10 pounds, and he said Justin Watson finished 2019 strong and looks faster than ever. But he also said rookie fifth-round pick receiver Tyler Johnson is hurt.

Coach Arians was not specific, saying, “Tyler’s got a little bit of an injury right now so he’s missing some time.”

This is a huge setback for the rookie many thought was a steal taken that late out of the University of Minnesota. No offseason and now injured during an abbreviated camp.

Fantasy football players are taking note.

Most likely a hamstring, but never-the-less a setback in this shorten offseason.

Crap! I was looking forward to seeing what this guy could do competing for that No. 3 WR spot. Ah well…next man up, and in the meantime for Johnson, to quote one of Steve Smith’s funniest lines , “ice up son”.

I always felt like it was Watson’s job too loose anyway. I think Scotty Miller with his speed may be used for very specific purposes; jet sweep, WR screen, reverses or just go deep and take a CB or saftey with him…clearing out room for other guys.

I was thinking the opposite, it was Scotty Miller’s job to lose. In a three set WR package, Godwin moves to the slot and Miller moves to the outside.

I think Johnson is a player of the future…so though a difficult setback, shouldn’t affect anything in the scheme of things. Miss him as a backup, but if he would be starting this year, we would be in big trouble anyway.

  6. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

BamaBucsFan: You may be right – who knows? But I don’t think you “move” Godwin to slot. I think you keep him there..he killed it last year from the slot. I like Watson’s speed and size.

  7. PSL Bob Says:

Not much of a loss. Great potential, but really, who’s he going to replace. I agree with others, a future prospect. If he isn’t ready to go, put him on the practice squad and groom him for next year.

  8. Craig Says:

NFL coaches aren’t known for giving much truthful info about injuries. It is highly possible that he got dehydrated and some muscles locked up.

It would be nice to see what he could do, but I think it will not be till the end of the season anyway.

Maybe in that garbage time when we have locked up the NFC’s top playoff spot with a game or two to go.

I believe their sights are set on him as perhaps the PR/KR guy. Hopefully he works that injury out.

“Brady needs a hot reciever ala

    Edelman / Wes Walker

Hump was that type of reciever

We dont have that type of reciever when turnstile Dope Smith blows a block

With the pitiful offensive line and Leftwich playcalling can the old goat stand for even 10 games?”

Kobe Faker. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  12. SOEbuc Says:

So is it Scotty or Watson at #3 WR? I say Watson.

  13. Joe in Michigan Says:

I always listen to the somewhat obscure players that Bruce Arians mentions. This was a while back, but BA mentioned John Franklin III. BA loves speed, and that kid has plenty of it. We’ll have to wait and see.

  14. Hodad Says:

No big deal, we’re solid at receiver. Franklin looks good from what I’ve seen of camp photo’s, he could be someone to keep an eye on Mich Joe.

  15. Crockett69 Says:

Worst case scenario: let him heal to 100% by sitting on practice squad then on down the line plug him in when opportunities show positive results. That is if this would be a lot of time or the severity of the injury I would guess.

The guys going to make the team plain and simple. Is it a setback yes, is it a huge setback. No
