The Tom Brady Legend Grows

August 31st, 2020

If you missed this over the weekend, it’s one more stunning gold star on the resumé of Tom Brady, the most successful quarterback in NFL history.

The nugget comes from the fingertips of author Jeff Benedict, whose book on the Patriots comes out tomorrow and already has received rave reviews.

The New York Post published a book excerpt that explains and nearly every detail of Tom Brady’s fluke hand injury/surgery to his throwing hand suffered in practice before the AFC Championship game of the 2017 season — as well as the Patriots cover-up and Brady defying the pleading of his doctor.

This little snippet doesn’t do it justice, but you can read the whole thing via the link above.

But it wasn’t nearly that simple this time. Just four days after a surgery on his throwing thumb that took 25 stitches to close, Brady was compromised. He was also still in a lot of pain. On game day, Leibman could have given him a shot to numb up the area around the wound, but Brady declined, saying he didn’t want to do anything that would limit his feel for the ball. The Patriots, meanwhile, insisted that Leibman be on the sideline in the event that Brady split open his hand and treatment was required during the game.

About five minutes prior to kickoff, Brady walked into the medical training room adjacent to the locker room, where Leibman was laying out his instruments.

Startled, Leibman stopped what he was doing.

Brady closed the door behind him, drew the blinds, and took a seat on a stool. Then he rested his chin on the training table. Staring ahead with a diabolical gaze, he extended his arm across the table, opened his hand, and calmly said: “Will you trim the tails of the sutures? I don’t want them touching the ball.”…

Needless to say, Brady didn’t listen to the doctors through the post-surgery process and pressured the surgeon to work in him just seconds before kickoff.

What a freak Brady is. Joe hopes a bunch of Bucs players read this whole story and get inspired even more to play with Brady.

This is why injury excuses are weak it’s the nfl everyone is hurt. A lot of times we don’t even know about surgery until a player speak on it later on. Everyone plays hurt at some point or another.

When stitches get cut and go to the ER, they have to get Tom Brady’d up!

  4. Shecky Says:

He ripped open a 25 stitch cut on the thumb of his throwing hand 4 days before the AFC Championship Game. I think that’s a pretty big deal for your starting QB and hardly “weak” in hindsight. We didn’t even begin to hear the details of it’s severity until a few weeks after the Super Bowl. He still went 26-38 for 290 and 2 TD’s vs. Jacksonville.

    Brady is an Irish King!

Not a joke or a clown.

Brady means “spirited” in The Irish Language of Gaelic.
