No Bucs Assistants Named

August 13th, 2020

Omitted

The Bucs were shut out.

In a mailbag question to SI.com’s Albert Breer, who is one of the most plugged-in reporters covering the NFL, he was asked for names to monitor as hot candidates for potential head coach vacancies in 2021.

The way the Bucs like to trumpet their assistants as the biggest and the brightest A+ group — not without some merit — it was surprising to Joe that Breer did not mention one Bucs assistant coach on his hotlist of head-coaching candidates to watch.

The NFL coordinator names you’ll hear most are some of the usual suspects from the last couple cycles—Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, Ravens coordinators Greg Roman and Wink Martindale, 49ers DC Robert Saleh and Saints DC Dennis Allen would be on that list. I’d also just keep an eye on Falcons DC Raheem Morris, Chiefs pass-game coordinator Mike Kafka and Titans OC Arthur Smith as names that could pop up.

Joe swears that Josh McDaniels or his agent must get a lot of reporters hammered at the combine on creepy Bob Kraft’s AMEX Gold card each year. How else to explain how this fool gets so much run, year after year after year?

Joe has no earthly idea why. In his only head coaching gig with the Broncos, McDaniels totally blew chunks. Lobbied for Tim Tebow even. LOL

And then a couple of years ago, this McDaniels had a handshake deal to coach the Colts and while Colts brass was about to hold a news conference announcing McDaniels as head coach, McDaniels bailed.

(McDaniels also was alleged to be building a staff and a couple of coaches resigned their positions in order to join the Colts, only to have the rug pulled out from under them hours later by McDaniels. Gee, what a swell guy.)

Not only are McDaniels’ credentials dubious, but he’s also a con artist.

But to learn nobody from the Bucs’ biggest and brightest coaching staff is on Breer’s hotlist is eye-opening for Joe. Maybe other teams’ suits don’t believe the staff is A+?

Shoot, Joe thinks if the Bucs have a good defense this year, Todd Bowles ought to be a ripe candidate. Joe has heard from NFL people that movers and shakers in the league are sympathetic to Bowles for his days as Jets head coach. These sources claim it wasn’t Bowles’ fault he had to work for a clown of a general manager who couldn’t pick talent.

If park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Tom Brady lights it up this year and toys with 5,000 yards passing, Joe is just going to guess Byron Leftwich might be looked at in a different light. Yeah, seriously.

Hey, if Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is as rotten of a quarterback as some try to convince the masses, then how the hell did he snap the 5,000-yard plateau last year? Only eight human beings walking the face of the earth have ever done that. Advantage: Leftwich.

It was good to see former Bucs coach and current Dixie Chicks defensive coordinator Raheem Morris on Breer’s list. That fraud McDaniels, he never had a winning season in Denver much less 10 wins like Rah had in Tampa.

The farther from that 2010 season we get, the more astounding it is that Rah won 10 games (robbed of an 11th) with that “yungry” roster.

Loved Rah as a coach! Definitely one of my favorites sound bytes.

Brady is not going to come close to JW’s NFL leading 5,109 yards. That’s my prediction. Remember it.

Jury is out on Leftwhich, seems to know nothing about a run game.

It’s absolutely everyone except the guy throwing the ball, right?

    Check yo sheet!

Raheem Morris is a good coach, he just wasn’t ready to be a head coach when he got his shot in Tampa; he was too young and immature at the time. That Falcons defense made a huge turnaround when he took over playcalling duties and basically saved Dan Quinn’s job. I’m pulling for him.

I’d bet dollars to donuts that Robert Kraft has an AMEX black card. Gold cards are for peasants line us who shop at supermarkets.

It’s amazing what a losing record will do.

If the bucs go to the playoffs or maybe the super bowl that will change.

Would love to see Rahim get another shot. No doubt the guy can coach.

What….no Harold Goodwin, Byron Leftwich or Tom Moore…….racial & age discrimination at play here….

    I’ll give a Wink and a Nod to Martindale…

Clean House — Tom Brady has only thrown for 5,000 yards 1 time in his career so that isn’t much of a bet. I wouldn’t even care if he threw for under 4,000 if we make playoffs who cares how pretty it is. Brady at the very least knows how to manage the game. I think we will see less pick sixes and overall turnovers. It is great going to be able to watch smart football for once instead of a deer in front of head lights approach we have become used to.

Bob Kraft. Ehwwwwww. The happy ending billionaire that wears his extremely cheesy outfit from Men’s Warehouse every Sunday.

Todd Bowles will be the next coach of the BUCS.
He ain’t going no damn where.

We’ll never get a fair shake until we start winning and even then most of the snobbish, tiresome writers from up North will give us the shaft. ‘Shrug”.

    Yes.
    Yes.
    Nope.
    Nope.

Breer is one of the most plugged-in, respected guys in the business.

  15. Buczilla Says:

Speaking personally about ignoring Breer, I’m sure he’s liked somewhere. I’m also totally biased towards Bucs players and coaches (to a fault most probably), but I truly believe that we get the shaft from the majority of the writers up North. You guys are awesome and I highly value your opinions (obviously since I read y’all religiously), but I’m sticking to mine on this one.

  16. TOM Says:

The only possible Buc coach I see as a HC is Bowles. Lefty would be the worst choice. He really sucks.

  17. BucEmUp Says:

I dont think Bowles wants to be a head coach again which would be best case scenario. Leftwich I hope Brady make him.look so good he is fone next season….guy is useless.

  18. Mrs. Entertainment Says:

Okay, Clean House — your comment about not knowing a run game leaves me laughing still. Good one!
