Lay Cash On The Over

August 8th, 2020

Wagering advice.

If your short-term investment broker takes prop bets for the 2020 NFL season, FS1 personality Colin Cowherd has a tip for you.

Cowherd is of the mind park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady will shatter the record of six touchdowns thrown for 43-year old quarterbacks, held by George Blanda. And it won’t be close.

Bet the over on any season touchdown number, says Cowherd, so long as it doesn’t go north of 30.

“He will start potentially slow,” said Cowherd, but added Brady will pick up steam as the season progresses. “He has averaged 31 [touchdowns a season] in his career. Jameis threw 33 last year and that doesn’t include the six he threw to the other team.”

And why is Cowherd confident Brady will get 30 touchdowns? Weapons.

“This is not just a good receiving group,” Cowherd said. “This is a top tight end and receiving group. [The Bucs] upgraded on the offensive line and a better running back group. So, LeSean McCoy can catch. He had [28] catches last year.

Brady “has a lot of available targets. He’s got a lot of mouths to feed. Nobody sprinkles it around like Brady. And by the way. The targets are big. Mike Evans is 6-6. Gronk is 6-6. He’s got big — O.J. Howard — big targets in the red zone.”

Cowherd makes a helluva point about the red zone targets. Joe believes the group is the best in the NFL. Joe’s going to take Evans or Gronk in a one-on-one matchup in the end zone all day every day against a corner. Howard could be lethal, as well. And Cam Brate is strong in the red zone.

As far as the red zone goes, Joe doesn’t know how the Bucs can be stopped unless they stop themselves. The Bucs ranked third in red-zone touchdown percentage last year without Brady and Gronk!

Here’s hoping the “Sickness” doesn’t derail the season. It is wreaking havoc with MLB.

  3. tickrdr Says:

Why do so many shortchange JW3’s performance last year?
He actually threw SEVEN “pick6’s” last year not six.

    tickrdr

  4. Casual Observer Says:

Red zone O should be something to see.

  5. Youngbucs Says:

We ran the ball ok in the red zone also

  7. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

The contrast between Brady and Jameis is going to be huge.

If there is one thing Joe probably regrets saying over and over is, “Jameis, America’s Quarterback.” He should have reserved it for Brady. I guess Joe can say, “Brady, the real America’s Quarterback.

  8. Casual Observer Says:

    The World’s QB?

  9. Roy T. Buford Says:

Godwin and Brate are not slouches, yet he totally missed them. It’s going to be amazing and fun to see what this offense can do with a real quarterback.

  10. Ndog Says:

Keep taking shots, some people have long memories. And we have a long way to go cause last time I checked football doesn’t end forever in two years.

Looking back on these comments will be fun one day in the near future.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog the as long as you keep talking about the ex QB and picky king you are effectively silencing yourself for at least an entire year. You are completely irrelevant telling us all how great a backup QB is who likely wont take a snap the entire season.

You have put your own self into a position where you are whining about a player who doesn’t even play. Maybe ya outta head over to Lousianna and go spy on practices cause that’s the only time the guy will be seen throwing a pass……You cant add anything decent to any conversation about anything and you are stuck that way indefientally. It’s really quite hilarious.

  12. Ndog Says:

Also I truly don’t understand the need for many posters to make comments like the below:

“fun to see what this offense can do with a real quarterback.”
“Why do so many shortchange JW3’s performance last year?
He actually threw SEVEN “pick6’s” last year not six.”

And many others, what point does it serve?

First of all they are usually based on nothing but opinion, second of all if you hated him so much what do you keep talking about him. It just shows an absolute lack of football intelligence when this team has been SO BAD for SO LONG in so many areas that people actually want to blame one player. It is truly laughable when our defense was HORRIBLE, our kicker was HORRIBLE, we lead the league in penalities and our coaching sucked most of the time.

All that is 100% true and you all know it yet you continue to rip a player who played hurt, played hard, worked his butt off, was a great teammate according to his teammates, has literally every positive QB record in the history of this team, was the main reason, along with the rest of the passing game, for the VAST majority of wins over the past 5 years.

In addition he did great work in the community, was always doing things for kids and took time for nearly every fan that asked for it. No one would argue that he wasn’t put in a HORRIBLE position with this organization who NEVER provided a league average running game, league average defense and lead average special teams in the same season. Not great mind you LEAGUE AVERAGE.

Yet look at your savior who has ALWAYS had top 10-15 defenses, usually top 5, top 5 kickers and a very balanced offensive attack to support him.

So before people run their mouths they should really understand what they are talking about but in today’s world people can just say anything with no accuracy or context and it doesn’t matter at all.

  13. stpetebucsfan Says:

I know it’s viewed as gimmicky but I hope the Bucs will seriously incorporate Vea into our goal line offense. He’s a giant but he’s athletic and was a big time running back in high school. We saw last year he’s comfortable catching it in the end zone. Running, receiving or just opening holes for Shady/ROJO/Vaughn Vea could be quite the weapon at the goal line.

  14. Ndog Says:

JimmyJack here is something for you that adds to the conversation if Brady would have came into this organization he would have been out of the league in 2 years. That’s how average he is and bad we were.

  15. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Sickness will fade away after the election in November- bank on it.
The virus will still be around , but the “hype” will be gone.

  16. Roy T. Buford Says:

Ndog, you should know the answer to your question WRT invoking failed Winston of “what point does it serve?” People have given it to you several times here.

The Bucs wasted the #1 overall pick on Jameis Winston, as they allegedly researched (ingored?) every fear about him coming into the draft. he had character issues off field. He had authority on the field WRT listenting to his coaches. He was immature. He was a turnover machine. Every single one of those things followed him to the Bucs, and came to fruition. The Bucs must never be so stupid again, if God forbid, they ever “earn” the #1 overall pick.

    It’s really quite simple.

  17. Roy T. Buford Says:

^authority ISSUES on the field in listening to his coaches.

  18. JimmyJack Says:

You said Brady is average. Dude, you are so high right now you could duck hunt with a rake.

  19. Roy T. Buford Says:

Ndog says: “…here is something for you that adds to the conversation if Brady would have came into this organization he would have been out of the league in 2 years. That’s how average he is and bad we were.”

How do you know that? How can you possible know that? You can’t even recognize cold hard facts…things that actually DID happen, with Jameis Winston. Yet you put up some bogus argument that has no bearing on reality?

  20. SB Says:

LOL the entire known world calls Brady the G.O.A.T
    Ndog calls him average.
    Forrest Gump’s mom was right.
    Stupid IS as stupid does.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

At the end of the day I’m trusting Bruce A. He got here and delivered. Top offense in the league. 1st place Rush Defense………We been begging the Bucs for ten years to give us a double digit sacker and they get us a 17…..Special teams still sucked and we were undisciplined all year but we nailed last years draft. If we hit this draft we got plenty to work with…….Looks like they know what they are doing. 10 wins dont sound like enough. We should do better.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Doc Says:

Let Brady drop back and pass as many time as J.W. did we will see how good he is. Take Brady three receivers for the last three games away like J.W. had to deal with and we see what he does then. 43 years old Quarterback give me a break, New England know something and decided to go in a different direction.

  23. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard doesn’t dare feel optimistic. This is scary. What if the Bucs are actually……………good?…

  24. Rojas Says:

I think Howard is going to step up big this year.

  25. Rayjay1122 Says:

Never bet against Brady collides with never bet on the Bucs. Lol

  26. Ndog Says:

Brady is average and always has been talent wise. His career results are all time great but when everything is perfect around you that is what you are supposed to do. He was put into the best position in the history of football, that cannot be debated. Heck in his first Super Bowl he lead his team to exactly 0 points in the AFC title and THEY WON and that was AFTER the league bailed him out for thats right A TO, which you guys obsess over. Brady is easily the most overrated player in the history of professional sports and it’s really not even close.

Remember M. Cassel after not even being able to start in college walking in a replacing the great one and going 11-5.

Oh yeah the Jets, Bills and Dolphins have been great the last 20 years. Think about this the best QB the 3 of those teams had combined in the last 20 years is C. Pennington!!!!!!

Meanwhile Jameis has had to go against the NFLs all-time leading passer, two number 1 overall picks and 3 QB that have been to a Super Bowl!!!!!

Brady would have gotten absolutely destroyed if he was drafted by this team as again he is the luckiest and most overrated player in the history of sports.

  27. SB Says:

Ndog……….you do realize that there are almost 7 billion people on this planet and that you are the ONLY one calling Brady average?
    Jeeeesh You are something else.
If you are trying to surpass t m a x as the greatest JBF troll of all time you are working it well.

  28. Ndog Says:

Believe what you with like SB but there are many many others that believe and better yet understand exactly what I’m talking about.

The problem is, just like with Jameis, it’s just a narrative established by the media that people are lead to believe. And like lemmings they just flock together just believing what they are told.

  29. BringBucsBack Says:

Brady will throw 6TDs in ONE game, this year!

  35. geno711 Says:

    Yes Ndog go on
I want to see all the other well respected names that you will mention stating Brady is average.

BTW Belichick passed on Winston for Cam Newton.

  36. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard bets that Dan Sileo and Michael Clayton are down on Brady also. Don’t get Howard wrong: Howard likes listening to both of those guys, but that’s because they have strong, unconventional opinions and they like to be contrarians.

  37. SB Says:

    Who?

  38. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Ndog go on this is great.

Clowns are supposed to make people laugh.

  39. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Also can someone explain to me why the twitter troll known as Jameis1of1 ramblings keep getting peddled in here?

  40. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Ndog – for God’s sake! You say that Brady is average and only succeeded because of the conference he was in and the staff around him. Really?! You do realize that winning a Division title is different than winning the Super Bowl right? 6 times right? Throwing passes on time and on target to the open receiver after correctly diagnosing the defensive alignment pre-snap – right?

Brady is absolutely average, or below average at that, when comparing his arm strength, 40 yard dash time, bench press, broad jump, and pole vault. BUT his is the GOAT when actually doing what the QB position requires to win games – and win the biggest games on the planet – 6 f’n times. Let it go you freak. You are wrong and you sound like a moron!

That is all – for now.

  41. Clean House Says:

N Dog- I agree with you 100% about Winston and while I can see your argument, I have to rake a hard pass on your Brady notions- 9 superbowls with 6 wins is not too shabby- pretty much undeniable. Too many special intangibles go into something like that.

  42. Clean House Says:

    take

  43. Ndog Says:

I understand it’s not a popular take but go look at the numbers Brady has had everything perfect around him his entire career. People say he hasn’t had weapons, really he played with the 2nd greatest WR ever and the greatest TE ever. He has had the greatest coach ever his entire career, he has the best starting field position of all time across a career, his defenses have always kept him on games allowing him to just take what they give him cause there was rarely a threat of getting blown out, he has played his entire career with maybe 2 HOF kickers and what might be the first assistant coach in the history of the league on his OL coach to go into the HOF. His career has been nothing short of perfection in terms of what a QB would dream of when asking for pieces around them to success. His teams rarely commit penalties which means they are almost always in favorable positions for a QB keeping the defense off balance. Has he played well ABSOLUTELY but many many other QBs would have had just as much success in the same situation.

  44. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Ndog

    You are a bore….

    I hope you’re paid well.

  45. Ndog Says:

I might be a bore but you can’t deny the statements I make are accurate.

  46. Dapostman Says:

Why do people say Brady won 6 Super Bowls? The Patriots won 6 Super Bowls. Hell in Brady’s last SB he put up a whopping 13 pts yet won. In his first SB he won with another 13 pt offensive gem. Ty Law scored 7 on an interception return for a 20-17 win. The marketing department of the NFL creates these hero’s to market their league. Hero’s sell merchandise and people tune in to watch these marketed hero’s. When Tiger Woods is in contention to win a tourney the ratings are always higher. No Tiger and the ratings slip. The difference is golf is not subjective like football or team sports. You are what your score says you are. Tom Brady is a good player but the GOAT? Please get real. He’s marketed that way and you sheep just keep parroting what your NFL masters want you to.

  47. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog stfu do you know how to evaluate winston individually? It’s always about defense and run coaching etc. It’s such a weak argument Brady has never Been athletic fool. He elite at things winston hasn’t grasped but you never talk about Winston individually. The best quarterbacks in today’s nfl don’t turn the ball over. Y’all always throwing up some old a$$ history spare me.

  48. Youngbucs Says:

Dapostman Brady did his job he didn’t cost his team the game who cares what a score is. Just win that’s what it’s about do your job the best you can. Don’t do to much and hurt the team. All gms play out different some are slug fest you acting like the rams weren’t stack stfu.

  49. Youngbucs Says:

Y’all always talking about talent talent talent. That can only take you so far in any sport. The best players in any sport are talented and cerebral.

  50. Youngbucs Says:

Dapostman we all think Mahomes is great because that’s what the media telling us right?????! Stfu y’all 🤡 need to leave that Twitter alone!!!!

  51. Ndog Says:

Mahomes had 2 TOs in the Super Bowl so to you people hes trash and you can’t win that way.

You can’t have it both ways.

  52. Ndog Says:

Yeah Youngbucs he’s elite at being the luckiest football player to ever walk the face of the earth.

That’s about it, cause with the perfect system around him including offense, defense, special teams and coaching you wouldn’t even know his name.

Why do you he wanted out of New England, cause he knew that he wasn’t good enough even with the best defense in football and an elite kicker to win. So he came to a place that he believes the players will make him look good but little does he know if he plays the kind of game that got them all those stats last year he going to get his a** kicked.

  53. Jean Lafitte Says:

If the Bucs would treat every play like they were in the redzone while moving down the field, I don’t see many teams stopping us. I know how Arians loves to stretch the field but with an accurate QB like Brady who is known for spreading the ball around maybe the short to intermediate plays are our real bread and butter.

  54. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog you sound stupid Mahomes is just a great player you can spin it all you want. I bet you think winston better than Mahomes you’re a 🤡

    ******************************

When your defense gives up 13 points or less the odds are you are going to win. How many games have the Bucs defense given up 13 points or less when Winston didn’t turn the ball over? Winston started about 70 games so please let us know how many times and what Winston’s won/loss record was. There must have been 3-5 games a year where there weren’t any interceptions. Give us the facts not your narrative. Your stupidity is overwhelming.

  56. Dapostman Says:

    @Youngbucs

Since you already know the answer I’ll look it up for you.

2015. 7 games without an interception. Bucs gave up more than 13 in all 7.
2016. 5 games without an interception. Bucs gave up more than 13 in 4 out of 5.
2017. 6 games without an interception. Bucs gave up more than 13 in 5 out of 6.
2018. 3 games without an interception. Bucs gave up more than 13 in 2 out of 3.
2019. 4 games without an interception. Bucs gave up more than 13 in 3 out of 4.

Bucs defense didn’t hold teams to 13 or less when Winston didn’t throw an interception in 21 out of 25 games.

You can’t blame Winston when he doesn’t throw an interception and the Bucs still crap all over themselves. You can only blame him when it’s his fault and he has plenty of blame to go around.

  57. SufferingSince76 Says:

Please stop talking to Ndog. It only encourages him. He’s already explained he knows more about football than anyone else who ever lived and anyone who disagrees with him is stupid. He has plied us with endless opinions disguised as facts, then blasts people for their differing opinions. In the normal world, this is called arrogance.

  58. Youngbucs Says:

Dapostman the defense gave up 13 yes but did Brady throw 2 pick 6s to possibly lose the gm in the super bowl no he didn’t that’s my point.
