“I’m Like, ‘Holy Sh**, This Kid Is No Joke.”

August 10th, 2020

Stamina may be the only thing holding back Vita Vea from greatness.

It’s certainly not strength, if you listen to the recent words of Ryan Jensen.

On the stamina front, the snap counts tell a tale. And Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles said that story will change this season. Ndamukong Suh played 125 more snaps that Vea last season, which is a big gap considering both played 16 games.

As far as strength, well, Vea might be one of the strongest guys in NFL history.

Jensen is a former teammates of five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. Jensen called him the strongest human being I’d every gone against — until he squared off against Vea.

A defensive tackle simply was not going to run through Jensen on a bull rush, he told Barstool Radio recently. He was wrong.

“It was like the first day of training camp Vita’s rookie year and he put his hands on me and I’m like, ‘All right. Let’s go – hop, hop and bow up,’ Jensen said. “And I just, he just took me for a ride. And I’m like, ‘Holy sh** this kid is no joke. He’s strong.’ He’s got longer arms than Haloti, which is dangerous. You know, obviously you saw Vita last year step up his game and was playing really good football. He’s just getting better and better.”

How good can Vea be?

Joe’s not sure. Hopefully, the Bucs’ 2018 first-round pick will play more than two-thirds of the defensive snaps this season — so Bucs fans can get a better look at his versatility and ability to dominate in a true full-time role.

    Keep him healthy please.

  2. Joe in Michigan Says:

Kobe Faker tries to insult Vea by calling him fat…Have you ever seen a skinny Nose Tackle that was any good?

  3. Buc15 Says:

Joe you lost me at Kobe Faker tries

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

125 div by 16= 7.8 which equals less than 2 snaps per quarter.

  5. Herbiebuc Says:

I can’t help but think of derwin james when I think of vita

  6. BigHog Says:

Camp is where you start to get better….be in shape and ready to grind!!

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Vita must prove he can stay healthy.

  8. geno711 Says:

The number of snap counts that JPP and Suh take are typically top 10 in the league for defensive line guys. Think about that.

32 teams and 2 of our guys are typically in the top 10.
It really shows you how elite each of their ability is.

If JPP and Suh can instill that ability to be successful for an additional 125 snaps a game that would be amazing for for this team.

No need to go to lesser players was a big reason why our defense turned the corner in the 2nd half of last year.

So glad we were able to resign both Suh and JPP and glad to think that Vea is an ascending player.

  9. Scott Says:

Take this for what it’s worth I watched you tube video of vea where 2 guys are analyzing his play, this guy is amazing ,why do you think we were number 1 against run,I saw plays where he’s holding lineman with 1 hand and making tackle with the other,he can chase backs to sideline ,fast as hell for 350 lb man,he’s constantly double and triple teamed and wins those battles on the video, any ,he also shows great pass rushing skill,he’s like a sapp only stronger,my opinion this is the best player on The bucs defense,I think he could be 1 of the best defensive players in the league, also if you want to see what athletic freak this guy is they got a 2 minute video of him playing rb in highschool

  10. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Derrius Guice, just got cut… remember when after the draft all you heard about was how licht blew it and hes gonna be an all pro year after year, lol.

  11. Cannon Says:

I’ve said this many, many times on this site, but it bears repeating.

If you want to see a fun game within the game, watch number 50 on any given snap.

  12. Mort Says:

Oh man stop with this Derwin James bullish!t. Vea is a better player and Jason and Dirk made absolutely the right pick. He is dominant and still ascending. If you say you’d rather have James, you self-identify as an idiot.

  13. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

My nephews, who both live in Washington State, and one of whom is a season ticket holder to UW, told me this kid was gonna be special. I think you’re gonna see that. Stop with the Derwin James, homer crap.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

Vita Vea could become the best DL in professional football. Do not be surprised.

IOf you’re gonna draft Big Uglies, a guy like Vea is the Disney Platinum Plus Pass.

I’m anxious to see what that DL from Nebraska brings to the table.

  15. gotbbucs Says:

He doesn’t need to be on a super high snap count. He needs to make the snaps count when he’s in there. I would rather have a guy like Vita that knows when he’s not able to go 100% come out of the game, get his wind back, and then get back out there at 100%.
Suh and someone else can hold down the fort for three or four snaps a quarter while the beast gets a drink.
Playing a high percentage of plays doesn’t mean didly poop if you look like Gerald McCoy the dancing bear on roller skates when it matters most.

  16. VAbucfan Says:

Already knew this dude had freakish strength, but his quickness for a dude that big is impressive! Suh and him give our linebackers so much freedom to make plays, please stay healthy!

  17. VAbucfan Says:

    Derwin who??

  18. SB Says:

All I know is I WILL be drafting the Bucs Defense this yr!
Last yr they were still on the board after 16 rounds. I picked em up off the waiver wire in week 11. I won’t be doing that this yr

  19. Kobe Faker Says:

“So strong but allergic to 3rd down passing downs

Vea is always10 yards away from QBs. He plays middle linebacker position and tackles runners after they gain 5 yards

Run stopping Dtackle is dime a dozen

Go to a grocery store in Samoa Samoa and you’ll see 20 Veas”

    Kobe Faker

  20. SB Says:

Dam Kobe……….you must be reading too many Ndog posts.
Your shtick gets dumber and dumber by the day

  21. Joe in Michigan Says:

I strongly suggest that Kobe Faker actually watches football before putting out comments about football. Otherwise, said posts will be uneducated gibberish.

  22. BucEmUp Says:

He could be the top dt in the league this year. He is an animal that cannot be blocked. Now rhat the bucs finally have prime time games and a qb everyone loves watch how many holding calls he gets against him.Dude is a machine

  23. Tampabuscsbro Says:

nah Kobe likes to rip on our big linemen. Both offensive and defensive. Go through his post history you can find him Ripping the entire O line and the interior D line.

Granted based on Kobe’s posts it doesn’t seem like he actually watches the games.

  24. Bucsfan951 Says:

Kobe wanted John Ross in the first round and dede Westbrook in the second round of the 17 draft. Never mind Westbrook was taken in the 4th rd and John Ross is “living” up to that 5th overall pick with an average of 600 yards a season.

    Yes, that same Kobe faker!!!

The same Kobe faker that said he would stop posting on joe bucs and never post again if the Bucs won in SD in 2016.

Yes, that same Kobe faker… ouch!

  25. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

I will raise my hand, as poster who wanted Derwin, instead of Vea. As time plays out, both have missed time due to injuries so impact by both on their teams, still needs to be played out. I am fine with Vea, he is a beast who changes the opposing team strategy for run game. But NFL is a passing league. And I still pine for Derwin. I am fine with Vea and appreciate his impact.

  26. David Says:

    Geno711
ointing out that JPP and Sue

  27. David Says:

    Geno711
Pointed out how Suh and JPP play a ton of snaps.
That is not a good thing to me. That tells me lack of depth. The d line should have six or seven guys rotating in and out. Maybe that’s why the Buccaneers were not good at getting to the quarterback late in the game, they were tired

  28. gp Says:

    Bucsfan951

I believe he also pledged to GO AWAY if Rojo posted a 50 yard game last year

Serial troll, old school variety, somewhat amusing, not like some of the newer variety.

  29. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Joe, although I get your point on Vea playing more snaps, after all, Suh is also older, but you fail to mention that Vea also played 109 special team snaps to Suh’s 16. That is if I am reading that correctly.

Geno, thanks for pointing out JPP’s and Suh’s high snap count. What was also interesting is that JPP played 100% of his snaps – wow!

  30. Bucsfan951 Says:

    You’re right, GP

    Definitely readable. Kinda funny

Nothing like the PUPPY who’s certified crazy and has a narcissistic personality

    Good observation

  31. Brandon Short Says:

but the dumb homers wanted a safety.
