Bruce Arians Compares Brady Versus Jameis

August 22nd, 2020

The Bucs launched America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and signed the most successful QB in NFL history.

The head coach on the happy end of that switch compared the two yesterday.

Bucco Bruce Arians visited his old friends CBS Sports Radio this week and was asked to compare the leadership of Jameis to that of Tom Brady.

Big difference.

“He talks. You listen,” Arians said. “I mean, you gotta be an idiot not to listen to the guy. And he’s such a great guy in the locker room, especially with young players, helping them and coaching them on and off the field. So yeah, it’s changed a lot of things.”

Arians explained his team’s hard-working culture was in place last year, but the new guy has taken everything to a new level.

“I think Tom’s brought that up a notch, and we’re working smarter.”

Of course, none of this is a surprise, but it’s comforting to hear Arians lay it out there clearly.

Well, supposedly ndildo is done, but fear not SmoothBay, Clean Trailer, Big Racist, O’Neil and other assorted mental midgets from the soon to be defunct Nuthugger Brigade, will surely be along soon to set all of us simpleton haters straight about how Taymeis is the best ever and how TB12 is just an elderly hack.

Well the self proclaimed “qb whisper” has been exposed!!!!!!!! And truth is that he cannot develop a qb!!!!!!!!! Ole stale biscuit just rides the coat tails of great players!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait until after the failure of a season that ole befuddle stale biscuit is taken out with the rest of the trash at the end of the season!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jameis Winston will be a great quarterback in the NFL. He just isn’t great yet, that’s why Tampa went with Brady. They think they can win now. I think they’re right but Winston will be around for a long time.

  14. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Jameis’ talent is undeniable.
But he seems to be the kind of athlete that needs mentoring from an experienced successful NFL QB.
I expect him to improve after his time with Brees

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comparing an average quarterback prone to making spectacular plays, both good and bad to the best of all time just isn’t fair. I don’t think Jameis is a bad dude, so I’ll leave em be until we play the Saints.

Well Jameis had to defend himself the last couple years. That being said. I’m happier than sht that Brady is here.

When you lead the league by a wide margin in turnovers over a 5 year period. You do not garner respect from your peers. Like Brady said in the Peter King Interveiw, He cant be making mistakes and be able to say something to others. No matter how much talent Jameis has, and he clearly has talent, if you keep on making the same mistakes, guys tune you out. I am reminded of the old EF Hutton Commercials, when EF ‘Brady’ Hutton speaks people listen. So 6 championships vs leading the league in turnovers. That says it in a nutshell. I hope Jameis figures it out, maybe he will or maybe he won’t. I do not know. I hope he does well against anyone else than the Bucs lol. Go Bucs!!!!

That’s why nobody in the NFL wanted him this season except the Saints who paid him a lowball 1 Million this season. For a guy who balked at $26 mil initially could only muster one team to pay him less than most third string QBs.

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I could have been talking about the difference in their salaries……$25-30mil to 1mil…..

Dude if Jameis ever starts for the Saints due to an injury your going to see a big difference. Bucs players know their qb is handcuffed to Leftwich anymore and won’t be forced to throw the ball 20 yards every throw and will have a running game that doesn’t only go up the middle on first down for the first half of the season. They know their qb is allowed to make his own decisions and that the defensive coach they have is legit. Optimism across the board has gone up yes, who wouldn’t be more excited about Tom Brady but the critisimn for Jameis is just dumb. Until Leftwich came his ints were manageable. A chance to play in Sean Paytons system taking the check downs and dump offs will allow him to make more decisions at the line and less mistakes. He’s also got 20/20 vision now. I just don’t understand the harsh criticism. Id take Jameis over a number of other starters through the league right now easily.

It’s still like a dream we have Brady. Can’t wait for opening day!

Arians positive comments about our current team indicate what was missing last year. Our previous QB was too busy ignoring the coaching (evidently he had to learn how to QB by watching Google..WTAF?) and losing the team.

Previous guy Lost The Room!!! He wasn’t, isn’t and may never get the chance to be a $30M a year guy. I’m sure glad we didn’t pony up that kind of cash long term, destroying our cap space for a guy on yr 6 with potential and bottom 3rd situational Football ranking.

Thank God that’s behind us now.

    Go Bucs!

    In BA I Trust!

The Bucs launched Quarterback, Jameis Winston and signed the most successful Quarterback in NFL history in America’s Quarterback, Tom Brady… I fixed the typo for you Joe. I’m surprised you don’t have a staff of proof readers by now. It’s all good though.

  30. Pelsbuc61 Says:

JW was given every possible opportunity in Tampa to succeed. Instead he was an embarrassment on and off the field. Good riddance, regardless of who the Bucs QB may be.

As I stated above, how many teams wanted Jameis in the offseason? How much did the Saints pay for him? This should tell you a lot. Personally, I don’t think Jameis is the worst starter out there. He has a great arm, throws descent on the scramble but he makes a lot of poor decisions and his accuracy beyond 15 yards is terrible. I doubt Jameis will ever take a team to the Superbowl. He just isn’t a top 10 QB nor do I ever think he ever will be.

Let’s not forget that Jameis has been accused of sexual misconduct twice. This has affected his leadership and hurt the image of the team. So yes, there is reasonable justification to be harsh on Jameis.

  32. Oneilbucs Says:

I don’t know where yall get that Jamies has been bad in practice because when I looked at those Practices and when I heard the saints fan base . They are happy to have Jamies . They said he’s been good in Practice . Now yes did he throw a pick or 2 yes . Brady did the same thing and yall said it’s just Practice . It’s a new playbook wich I know it will be a New England playbook and it should be .

  33. All lives matter Says:

I’m not going to say anything bad about Jameis Winston but the fact I’m glad he’s no longer here and we finally moved on. I didn’t really expect Tom Brady would be his replacement but I’m glad he’s here and look forward to this season..

  34. Oneilbucs Says:

Bruce Arians is a fake he has never developed a quarterback . Payton Manning said he threw a lot of interceptions under him . He got Andrew Luck killed . He got fired from Pittsburgh for the same thing alot of the play calling was changed by the head coach to running plays . I hope we win a superbowl this year so he can leave and we start back building up the team again .

  35. Paul Says:

He does use proof readers. You still call JW America’s quarterback and treats Tom Brady like a putz.
The first paragraph of this post has Brady introduced as the most successful quarterback in NFL history. –Joe
It’s an amateur attempt at humor. Only his loyal readers apparently tolerate it without complaining -everybody else that reads the stuff was wondering why he’s being so negative towards the greatest quarterback of all time. lame

  37. ocala Says:

Jamies is extremely talented, but there are allot of things that go into being a great NFL QB that he does not have. Brady is the best NFL player of all times, so it makes total sense that there is a big difference between the two.

too much hate I personally would have loved for the bucs to sign Winston to learn behind Brady. Imagine a backup of that caliber for pennies and when Brady does retire with that kind of mentoring my bet is Jamis would be clearly a better if not amazing qb for the bucs future

  42. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Oneilbucs says, “Bruce Arians is a fake he has never developed a quarterback.”

Fake? Are you kidding me? Didn’t Bruce Arians win the AP Coach of the Year twice in three seasons! I think his record speaks for himself. So far BA has shown a winning attitude and has assembled a great coaching staff. The culprit of the 3 or 4 losses last year was on Jameis.

  43. Oneilbucs Says:

Tom Brady had the best coach in the NFL . Brady has always played with good defenses they were always ranked at the top every year that Brady was in New England . That team was really more defense driven than offense . I know the media told yall different and they convinced yall to believe their narrative about the quarterback position and not to mention he has always had a running game wich every quarterback needs . Name me one superbowl win that the Patriots blew the team out ???? Their defense has won every last superbowl . But I will give him the Falcons game .

  44. Oneilbucs Says:

Alabamabucfan You can blame Jamies all you want but why it’s a kicking competition going on now ??? The kicker lost 3 games last year including the last game of the season he missed 4 field goals in that game . Brady is not used to losing like that .

  45. JimmyJack Says:

This article is what I think the nugglers never understood about Jameis. At some point in time you will lose faith of your team. You will lose the locker room. Leadership is a huge part of the job.

It’s about more then pointing to being the first guy in the door everyday. That’s a minimal expectation. Ultimately the biggest test is on field results. If yall cant understand how Winston likely lost trust of players and coaches then your just not getting it.

  46. JimmyJack Says:

Just look at game 1 against the niners. Pitiful. A few weeks later a total meltdown in London. Meanwhile the team powers through it and turns it around to play really good football down the stretch. Winston choked away two more games and doesn’t have you back. That’s 4 awful games right there. Total inconsistency. That’s letting the team down and that’s not being a leader.

  47. Youngbucs Says:

JimmyJack exactly you can lose the team they don’t understand that. Watch suh interview yesterday he acknowledged that QB was a discussion in exit meetings. Go back and watch it I also remember Godwin saying something to a similar affect and saying he’s happy he doesn’t have to make the decision.

  48. mark2001 Says:

Wonder how many of you guys have been keeping up with his progress in Saints training camp? Actually it sounds like what we saw here. He will take a broken play or snap and make something good out of it…one nice throw…one bad throw…three good passes in a row…for incomplete passes in a row. He sounds like he is playing like an average backup QB.

  49. mark2001 Says:

    four, not for.

  50. Oneilbucs Says:

This franchise has never developed a quarterback they have drafted superbowl winning quarterbacks . But they put everything on one position instead of playing team football . If Jamies had a running game like I think Brady is going to have Jamies will still be here . But last year Bruce Arians didn’t value the running game but now he do . So that should raise some red flags wich I think he set Jamies up to fail that’s just what it looks like . So I really hope we win a superbowl so he can take his old but back home .

  51. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs stop acting like Brady always wins because of the defense. Should I hit you with a fact? Better yet go check for yourself how many points the pats have given up in playoff football on average in Brady career. Matter of fact more recently look at the Super Bowl against the Eagles. A gm in Brady had like 500yds. But then look at the rams super bowl they redeemed them selfs it’s a team gm but stop trying to diminish Brady talent and winning qualities.

  52. Youngbucs Says:

Jameis is not here because of jameis!!!!!! Not run gm not kicking gm not defense!!!!! It’s because of the things he can control but doesn’t on a consistent basis!!!! This is 💯 percent why he is not here they stuck with him through the off the field stuff. His departure is 💯 percent performance based!!!

  53. JimmyJack Says:

O’Neil you sound confused. We had to totally rebuild the defense last year. That’s why we spent nearly every investment on that side of the ball. Bruce didnt just up and decide to start caring about running the ball now. He didnt have any resources to address the running game because we had a league’s worst. Historically bad defense.

Had to fix the defense first and work with what we had elsewhere. No other options.

  54. El Buco Realisto Says:

The sheep and alabamabucfan are at least right about one thing!!!!!!!!!! Ole stale biscuit’s record does speak for it self!!!!!!!!!! 1 win and two losses as a playoff record!!!!!!!!! When was the last time his team made some noise, like 5 seasons ago!!!!!!!!!!

Are yoiu proud of your so called “winning attitude” with a 7-9 losing record??????????

Here is a fun fact for you alabamabucfan!!!!!!! Did you know that the toothbrush must have been invented in Alabama????? Because, if it was invented anywhere else, it would have been names the TEETHbrush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. Oneilbucs Says:

Jimmyjack what about the rams game we won 54 to 45 what happened to the defense that game . What about the Gaints game what did the defense do ? What about the Seahawks we were winning 21 to 3 what happened to the defense and the running game. What happened the last game of the season the kicker missed 4 field goals . All those games the Patriots would have won those games . So when the next quarterback comes in we have to give him a running game to take some of the pressure off the quarterback . That’s how you developed a quarterback .

  56. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs the defense was a big part in winning the rams gm. You better check your sheet the gave jameis short fields and scored tds. Check you sheet better yet rewatch the gm!!!!!

  57. Oneilbucs Says:

Jimmyjack I respect what you are saying bro and I do agree with the defense needing to be rebuild . But I was just talking about the offense we need to have a balance offense . Like running the ball at least 20 times a game .

  58. JimmyJack Says:

O’Neil understood about the defense in those games you mentioned. Yes they were bad. But they also showed significant improvement towards the end of the year. That is understandable since we started 3 rookies and were learning a whole new system. And it’s reasonable to expect they play better, consistently, this year……..On top of that there are things they have proven to do well……run stop, forcing turnovers, passrush, goaline defense. And we have no shortage of talent. Our OLBs as one example. There is solid reasoning to be optimistic about the defense……That said they do have to still prove it. I would bet on them.

  59. JimmyJack Says:

O’Neil I agree with what you are saying about running the ball. And when you look at the offseason moves it looks like the Bucs agree as well. Dude, we just traded up for a RT. That’s a move that emphasizes running the ball better. Then we drafted 2 RBs and brought in McCoy. You could argue the move to get Gronk has an added bonus of better blocking from that position.

  60. JimmyJack Says:

In the end if you wanna blame somebody for not putting a team around Winston that could win you gotta blame the coach who drafted him and the last guy. Bruce arent the guy who had a crap team around Winston for his 5 years. And I bet if Bruce and Bowles were here 5 years ago and drafted Winston we would be in a much different spot today.

  61. Tampabuscsbro Says:

I guess if Jameis had an all pro running game, a top 5 defense an offensive line, some better WR’s, some better TEs, a kicking game and a coach then we would see something from him………

You people are ridiculous. Yes it was everyone elses fault for Winston’s poor decision making and why he couldn’t stop turning the football over again and again and again.

  62. Paul Says:

  63. tickrdr Says:

#1) Teams that win the turnover battle win the game ~ 78% of the time.

#2) Most games in the NFL are fairly close, and the winning margin is often three points or less. Reminder: JW3 threw SEVEN “pick6’s” last year. That is SEVEN times he gifted a free TD to the opponent. Note: This does not even count the TWO INTs returned to the 6 and 10 yard lines against Tenn.

#3) As Jameis got more RECKLESS, he threw more TDs, but also more INTs.
    Year TDs INTs Ratio
    2015 22 15 1.46
    2016 28 18 1.55
    2017 19 11 1.73
    2018 19 14 1.36

Winston appears to be hanging by a thread in the NFL

  73. Howard Cosell Says:

That was the same thing that Jimbo said about Winston: That sometimes he doesn’t listen to coaching

  74. Oneilbucs Says:

Tampabusco All of that what you just named Brady played with his entire time in New England but one year and he threw a pick 6 to end the game . You ain’t getting to a championship without a good defense and at least a running game that can close out games when you need to . Go look at every team that won the superbowl or even made it their all had good defense and was able to run the ball . But I’ve seen average or below average quarterbacks help their team win but they were not the driving force on why they won .

  75. Oneilbucs Says:

Yall love to bring up the sexaul assault about Jamies but it’s never brought up about Big Ben . Jamies was never convicted on none of that . JAMIES HAS A CLEAN CRIMINAL BACKGROUND !!!!

  76. Oneilbucs Says:

Tampabusco Why Philip Rivers haven’t won or even played in a superbowl and he been in the NFL for years ?? I guess he suck to are his teams haven’t been good enough . It’s a team game when it comes to Rivers but for Jamies it’s a quarterback game only !! Lol 😆🤣

  77. Youngbucs Says:

It’s a team gm it’s a team gm blah blah blah. So ima need every player to be great while the QB throws ints and gives away points like candy. But that’s ok because everyone else just needs to play better cool. While we’re at it let’s pay the mediocre QB 100 million while he continues to be mediocre and build a hof team around him at every position. 82. Dangeruss Says:

My only hope is this freaking China flu idiocy will not prevent me from attending the Buccaneers games in person so that I can smack every single one of the Brady haters on this network. First off, Jose would be on my list due to his constant rambling about America’s quarterback? Had the former number one pick been any other normal American who raped a girl in college, he would be doing 25 to life in a federal prison. Add to that consecutive five-year sentences for Grandtheft of crab legs are other various seafood items. Tired of six years of conversations about someone who is no longer here. Because Tampa Bay chose their former quarterback despite living in Florida for 57 years, I became a patriots fan. I did so because of the character and inspiration of Tom Brady. I was overjoyed at Tom’s toys and the Buccaneers wise investment to buy season passes again for the first time in six years. My total fear is this politically charged China flu hoax will soon cause us not to be able to attend games. Buckle up Tampa Bay, you’re about to be treated to the best two years of football in the history of the franchise. TB12 has played 19 street years missing only one season due to a knee injury. He’s gone a decade without missing a game and went a decade previous to that with only the knee injury. I think whoever is in charge because the jerseys most needed to add to my collection were Brady’s and Gronks!!! The only injustice besides the China flu hogs in America, is the fact that there is very little chance with spam Newton that the Buccaneers will face the patriots in the Super Bowl. One can hope, but more realistic it will be a rematch between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. I look forward to it, I am working overtime every week, and hope to buy Super Bowl tickets to watch Tom Brady take the team to victory. Thank you to the owners of Tampa Bay, the coaches of Tampa Bay, and good luck to the 31 other teams. It’s gonna be fun folks!

Based on these and other comments by BA, he has painted himself into a corner if he does not lead the team to a winning season, playoffs, etc, including saying on record this team has the “best talent he has seen on a team in 27 yrs” That means BA just has to not eff it up since the only variable is coaching.

Many give Jameis the business, and say that he was so terrible, but that offense that he played with under Lottery was garbage. As well, the O line he played behind was garbage and often had him running for his life. Many will see that Shady Brady is a product of the league and a solid NE system. In a couple off Superbowls he did (help) put them in striking distance, or position to win. But he had to get help from the opponent to get the W. For if Seattle has given the ball to Lunch, that would be one less ring. If Atlanta has stayed with they’re getting game that had gashed NE’s defense, and just kicked the field goal that would’ve iced the game, Brady wouldn’t have that ring either. He’s slow, unathletic and will not produce like Soooo many are already glorifying him to…

  94. Brianbucs Says:

Bucs gave Winston every chance in the world to be The Man here, be successful, but he just didn’t have what it takes to be a true, NFL franchise QB.

  95. Oneilbucs Says:

Brainbucs I know that a lot of yall hate the kid . But I can agree with you if we every developed a quarterback in Tampa . They let Williams go years ago and he won a superbowl . They let Steve Young go and he became a hall of famer . They let Trent Dilfer go and he won a superbowl . So we have drafted quarterbacks that was capable to help a team win but we let them go . Again it can’t be every quarterback that get drafted here . The organization is failing all of these quarterbacks and yall keep blaming the quarterbacks and not the organization . Patrick Mahomes would struggle with this team . Until the organization gets better this will remain a loser team .

  96. lambchop Says:

    @Oneilbucs,

Dilfer has said that he wishes he wasn’t as immature when he played with the Bucs and he played within the system in Baltimore and let the D win. Bad timing for us.

Steve Young had Walsh, Montana, and a set team. The Bucs had no OL to protect him and he had no one to learn from here. Ray Perkins didn’t like his style of play. Bad timing for us.

The only one that got away was Doug Williams because he made magic happen with a mediocre team. You can thank the old ownership for that. That’s the only one we should really regret, but at least he got his chance somewhere else and won.

You can’t blame an organization when the organization was different or in a different situation each time they had a QB. Apart from Doug, and maybe including Doug, none of those QBs would have done diddly on the Bucs as close to what they did for their next team if the Bucs kept them. I don’t see the point in crying cuz they won a SB somewhere else. It takes a team to win, not one player.

Why don’t we talk about Vinny, Erickson, DeBerg, Spurrier? You can’t cherry pick the QBs that went into a good situation.

  97. lambchop Says:

Throw in Shaun King and Brad Johnson. Neither had a more successful time as when they were Bucs. Why? Cuz we had a good team around both.

  98. lambchop Says:

But neither were part of the problems either. They didn’t turn the ball over consistently. 30 INTs is like 5 seasons worth of INTs for most of the elite QBs in this league.

  99. lambchop Says:

Even Josh Freeman has had a better season than Jameis Winston. Freeman had 25 TDs and only 6 INTs (2nd lowest in the NFL in 2010 only to Tom Brady).

  100. DalvinCookRules Says:

Kinda unfair to compare 90% of the QBs in the league now to one of the greatest QBs in NFL history, but I guess bashing players who are no longer here is what being a Bucs fan is all about.
