Ballers, Not Divas

August 20th, 2020

WR duo gets props.

Often, the best receivers in the game tend to be divas or drama queens. Not all, but it sure seems like it is in their DNA to crave the spotlight.

That’s not the way Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are wired. The two, possibly the best duo of receivers in the NFL, have little to no egos. They bust their tails and are excellent teammates.

Evans someday maybe in the Hall of Fame. Yeah, Joe said it.

Having so many weapons like the Bucs have could lead to problems. You know the old saying, there is only one ball to go around?

Today in his post-practice Zoom press conference, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians made sure people know just how much he appreciates and admires Evans and Godwin’s attitudes, not ‘tudes.

“Can’t say enough about those guys,” Arians said. “Selflessness is a huge thing when it comes to offensive players – there’s only one ball. Somebody’s going to have their lip poked out on Monday because nobody’s going to get enough of [the ball]. But, this group is selfless and I can’t say enough about their personalities that way.”

The cool thing about this is since the Bucs drafted Godwin, Evans may be his biggest supporter. Evans has constantly told people Godwin is a No. 1 receiver and is a star in the making.

Then, that star was made last year when Arians moved Godwin to slot. Payday for Godwin is right around the corner.

But how lucky are the Bucs that for a position usually filled with me-guys, the Bucs have we-guys?

    I’m happy.

  5. Mike in LOL Says:

That last sentence sums it all up – we are definitely blessed with good attitudes from our receivers!!

  6. DoooshLaRue Says:

I would never call Evans a diva but he is a little bit of a baby at times.

Godwin in the other hand is just the man!

  7. El Buco Realisto Says:

No matter the great attitude, they still have to overcome the delusion and greatly over-rated ole stale biscuit!!!!!!!!!! What a waste of a year again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And on NOLA.com, Day 2 Training camp…Jameis is reported to be getting minimal reps. 1-2, with one in the dirt…. and the one caught, the receiver having to layout for. Doesn’t sound like he is exactly tearing it up in Coach Paytons mind.

  9. Buczilla Says:

Evans imho is already our best offensive weapon ever (not counting Brady of course) and Godwin may end up being even better. If we make the playoffs this year and with all of the attention that Brady brings, these guys are going to get their just rewards.

Keyshawn, Carrier, Vincent Jackson, Galloway and others were certainly damn good, but just no where close to Evans. If Evans keeps this up for another 5 years, I have no doubt that he will make the HOF. Keep saying it Joes, I’m with ya.

  10. mark2001 Says:

Yeah Buczilla… Galloway and Jackson in their primes were close. Key… came through in the clutch to help win a ring. But I’d take Evans.

  11. El Buco Realisto Is a Dicko Says:

Yep, El Buco Dicko, we know you’re the waste expert!!!!!!!!!!
So everyone I’m sure is taking keen interest in your opinion for once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Mark2001,

I just read a couple of those articles on NOLA and it sounds like “Taymeis” is bullish!tting his team pretty good!
It sounds like all the same crap we heard about him being such a great student and having a great personality…… but I think we know how this eventually plays out right?
    😂

  13. Kalind Says:

Evans is already maybe the greatest (homegrown) offensive Buccaneer of all time. Name a better one.

He MAY end up the greatest buc of all time. Yea. I said it.

I know what you are saying. He recognizes this in himself, though, and actively works on it! Self-awareness is an admirable trait, and it is hard work to squelch oneself when emotions are high. Evans has matured noticeably since his rookie season because he wanted to. Divas don’t want to.

Can’t judge it before it plays out, Bucanero!

Man, I love the Bucs WR’s! I’m glad that D Jax didn’t rub off on them, like Brent Grimes rubbed off on VH3, IMHO.

Man, you beat me to it! I was perusing NOLA.com, and ran across:
‘Drew Brees accidentally referred to fellow quarterbacks Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston by the portmanteau of “Taymeis.”‘

Been here 8 years! Always enjoyed your takes Kalind!

Possibly a GREAT observation Joe in Mich!

We are damn lucky to have 2 stud WRs that both have their heads on straight. Very rare indeed.

Gotta give some credit to Vincent Jackson for mentoring Evans in the right way after making his own missteps earlier in his career.

As for Godwin- I loved him predraft and was absolutely stoked when we got him, but damn he has surpassed all expectations I had already. And he likes to get grimey! Just like Evans (especially his first few years. Remember when he put that Cleveland DB on his arse during a run play? Straight up pile driver lol)

Yes, love VJ. He deserved a better team to play for.

  23. unbelievable Says:

Agreed Coke Spoon, he really did deserve better.

Same for Lavonte and Evans- hopefully this is the year!

  24. #1bucfan Says:

Glad we got them both. Hope we can keep Godwin and not waste their talents
