Ex-Pats RB Talks About Succeeding With Brady

April 12th, 2020

Pay attention, Mr. Ogunbowale.

For nine full seasons, Kevin Faulk was a true go-to guy for Tom Brady out of the Patriots’ backfield.

Faulk also was in place as a successful dual-threat back in New England when Brady arrived.

Currently the Louisiana State University running backs coach, Faulk talked to WEEI Radio in Boston and shared his key to being a successful running back with Brady: know what Brady knows about situations and make sure he knows that you know.

Did Brady chew out Faulk? Absolutely, he said. “You take it and you move on. … Move on. Let’s get better.”

One thing that intrigues Joe about Faulk is his connection to Brady combined with his connection to versatile LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Many consider Edwards-Helaire to have gifted hands and a Darren Sproles-type game. Might Faulk get a chance, via Brady, to influence the Bucs on taking Edwards-Helaire in Round 2?

As for Faulk’s view of the Bucs now that they’ve added No. 12, he said he loves Tampa Bay’s prospects and respects the teams’ talent. However, Faulk said what nearly every ex-NFL player is saying: the pandemic cancelling spring workouts will be hard to overcome. “We all know that you got to put that together, and putting that together means you got to spend time together and put work in together.”

Two random and interesting nuggets from Faulk:

Brady on big drives often says in the huddle, ‘We got this. One first down at a time.’ And, per Faulk, Randy Moss’ 2007 arrival to the Patriots led to Moss teaching the entire team about coverages and how to run routes through coverages, which had a huge effect on the entire team.

LOL. I open up this comment section and see people ‘talking’ about DD, but I don’t see his post(s). Hallelujah!! Best change to your site in quite a while, Joe! LOL

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I suspect there are a few Patriot fans posting on our site……We’ve had negativity before….but at least it was intelligent negativity…….now it’s laughingly obtuse!!!

  10. Buc1987 Says:

Hawk…been reading DannyDimes posts all morning….

    Same rant.

Gofortheface…pretty much set him straight in a thread much lower than this. It was a nice trashing.

  11. Stanglassman Says:

Has Edwards-Helaire really moved up to be considered a 2nd rounder? I haven’t looked at player rankings for the draft Rbs much since the combine. He was a late 3 to early 4th round guy in April. Anyone ranking him that high must consider him a every down back. The scouting reports I’ve read on him thought of him as a 3rd down back.

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Stanglass yes I think Helaire is being touted as a 2nd rounder. I’ve heard a lot of Bucs pundits that are very high on this guy.

I feel like our draft stragety will be to bolster the run game. If we can get one of their top tackles at 14 I think they’ll pull the trigger. If all the Tackles go we might see one of them receivers fall and have a trade opportunity. Then you get a RB in Round 1 and get a Tackle in Round two with a extra day 2 pick.

I am curious which defenders we might consider at 14 but we gotta upgrade that running game. I don’t see our top choice not being a runner or a blocker.

  13. JimmyJack Says:

But we will have a new RB on this team when we start this season. That’s a given. I’m betting it’s somebody who can catch the ball.

And yes RoJo can still catch his screens and whatnot……But we need somebody else who can run routes over the middle and beat nickle corners. RoJo has not shown he can do that.

  14. Ndog Says:

And, per Faulk, Randy Moss’ 2007 arrival to the Patriots led to Moss teaching the entire team about coverages and how to run routes through coverages, which had a huge effect on the entire team.

How can this above quote be, I thought Brady taught everyone everything on those Patriots teams? I guess we have to bring in Moss as well now cause you know our coaches aren’t going to teach them crap cause they are not accountable for anything to hear the coach tell it.

  15. SB Says:

Happy Easter everybody. He is Risen

Walterfootball has Helaire ranked as the third best back in the draft. Projected 2nd or 3rd rounder.

  16. Mort Says:

Y’all are crazy thinking we have a shot at CEH where we pick in round 2. Just crazy.

  17. Robert primmer Says:

Imagine a Tom Brady Bucs vs Patriots Super Bowl this year

  18. JimmyJack Says:

Mort……I’m not to huge on mock draft but they are useful when dealing with BS comments. And I’m gonna call bull on yours.

Looked up a few mocks and none had Helaire going before we picked……..So I kept looking to see if I could find just one having him get drafted ahead of us. I could not find one. Gave up trying after like 8-9 of them. In fact only one that I saw had him going in the top 50. And one that I saw had him as a 3rd round choice……….So I’m guessing nobodies crazy and the Bucs do have a shot.

  19. Bucsfan951 Says:

    Danny boy,

Why are you obsessed with another mans junk and the looks of him?

He has indeed risen and came out of the closet… his name is Danny boy!

    7. Compares the number of wins per player payroll relative to the rest of the NFL. Playoff wins count twice as much as regular season wins. A score of 120 means that the team had 20% more victories per-dollar of payroll compared with the league average.

If they have to play in an empty stadium they still get $255 million per team.
5 minute positive and 13 minute total to negative Coronavirus finger prick testing exists. They will have multiple machines.
Coronavirus immunity tests exist. Currently takes 5 days. Everyone will have a test. By then it should take less time. If immune no more rapid testing.

  21. TheBradyBunch Says:

Mort, I will be shocked if he is not there in the 2nd. Why are you so sure of this? Almost no mocks that have him gone when the Bucs pick in the 2nd round. And imo he should really be a 3rd or 4th round pick.

  22. DannyDimes Says:

Danny Dimes is the name, not Danny Boy sir, do I offend you by speaking facts, lets review… FOOTBALL is 5 months away, we have no cure, no vacine, no other sports are being played it is a matter of time before they announce there will be NO football…. Brady will be 43, 44 by the next time he can play in 2022, he will retire before playing a down for the Bucs, then they will have no one

  23. The Coroner Says:

    Bucs 2019 numbers

  24. Bucsfan951 Says:

Danny boy sounds like a nut.

I actually love reading Danny boys comments.

Danny boy thinks there’s no cure.

Funny Danny boy, my friend got the rona and they gave him a pill and z pack and he is all better. Had pneumonia too! CURED!

Danny boy likes to talk about men’s junk, how they look, and cancelling football.

Danny boy must be fun to hangout with at parties, said no one ever!

Teach your children not to be a loser like Danny boy.

Danny boy for Prez 2020 y’all! First female prez ever!!!

  25. DannyDimes Says:

Wow, While I appreciate your response BucsDan951, let me ask you your opinion then, do you believe there will be a full NFL SEASON w fans in the stands in a short 5 months w no cure in site for the virus and it still spreading and people dying, Please let us know your opinion sir

  26. JimmyJack Says:

Get used to the trolls y’all. They will flock to us now that we have Tom. If you think it’s bad now just wait til the season starts.

  27. Bucsfan951 Says:

I think Danny girl needs to turn off the news and go outside. ITS BEAUTIFUL!!! Beware of the zombies tho! They’re everywhere!!!

  28. Bucsfan951 Says:

951 ain’t scured of a little rona. He breathes worse in at work!

  29. OneBuc55 Says:

I personally hope Dare Ogunbowale is our 3rd option a RB…
I’d really like to see us take a stud RB in this to push Rojo…

  30. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Danny boy doesn’t realize that these players are going to be paid regardless if there is a season because there is not protection for the owners against things like this.
So do you think the collective wealth of 32 NFL owners aren’t going to figure out a way to play games and make revenue when they are going to have to pay the players anyway?
There will be football, just maybe not with fans in stands but the NFL will get their tv money, Vegas will get their betting money, and we will all invest our season ticket money into big screen TVs and wonder why we ever left our houses on Sundays.

  31. Dewey Selmon Says:

As there is a run on overvalued QB’s in the 1st round the run on RB’s is round 2. I expect just before us a couple of RB’s we have our eye on are going to get drafted which will push 3rd and 4th round talent into a 2rd round pick. Helarie and Akers come to mind. The might be gone by the time your 3rd round #76 pick comes around.

  32. DannyDimes Says:

Major League Baseball has delayed its season, with no firm start date in sight. And while NFL officials said in a conference call last week they plan on having a traditional season this fall, the possibility exists, based on comments from government and health officials across the country, that no games will be played.

  33. Bucsfan951 Says:

    Cool story, GRANNY DIMES!

  34. DannyDimes Says:

Just the Bucs luck they get fancy new uniforms and a old QB on his last leg and the season will be cancelled before Old Man Brady can take a snap, in the 2021 season he will be 44 years old and that is when there will be football, we all know season is cancelled especially w fans at the game

  35. Pok Says:

Let lil Danny spout his opinions. Most of it is silly. The rest of us can focus on the positive while he is trying to come up with personally approved witticisms about dongs and what not. Clearly his religious analogies are off base. Happy Easter everyone 2!9 isn’t a fool! We all know the size of a roll of dimes. Just remember he picked the name not us. Hahahahaha Danny boy Danny boy

  36. Bucsfan951 Says:

You’re right, Pok. Let granny dimes do his thing!

  37. Alanbucsfan Says:

Based on government and health officials,
    DD is Chicken Little

  38. Sport Says:

NDog – I knew your angle of this article was coming. Too funny. The same could be said for the greatest coach of all time too. Why didn’t he teach the players what Moss shared?

Point is, Moss is a HOF’r. Players tend to listen to best in class. Do you really think receivers were lining up to learn from JW? HAH! They were too busy making him JW good.

But good for you keeping JW Derangement Syndrome as your one trick pony.

    In BA I Trust!

  39. 2002WasALongTimeAgo Says:

NDog: You need some sunshine for your cloud! Why do you think both Evans and Godwin were over 1,000 yards last year? Hint: not Jameis. Evans has been training with Moss, our WR’s ALREADY know the secret.

Thanks Coroner! DD is harping on something no one knows about..yet. We have quick 2 minute tests coming, as well as antibody tests this week? CMIIAW, but don’t players bunk together the entirety of training camp anyway? And wear gloves, masks on helmets, etc. Zeke, Dak and Dez are apparently already working out.

    Happy Easter!

  40. 2002WasALongTimeAgo Says:

NDog: Sport is correct. Jameis wasn’t responsible for Evans and Godwin’s 1000 season. You do know that Mike has been training with Mr. Moss, so they already know the scoop!

Thanks Coroner! DD is ignoring that fast tests and antibody tests are coming out this week. The team stays together during training camp anyway. AND, don’t the players have helmet masks and gloves available? IDK, but Zeke, Dak and Dez seem to not be too bothered…

  41. Ndog Says:

Sport do you think our WR ran elite routes last year?

  42. The Coroner Says:

    DannyDimes
Suppose most of us probably hope you are wrong.
    Some probably find you amusing.
Perhaps the rest hope you get help.

  43. Bucsfan951 Says:

    I agree with the puppy!

The second team all pro godwin and pro bowler Evans ran sloppy routes

Bucs need to trade them ASAP!!!

It’s amazing the stupidity of some folks around here.

  44. Youngbucs Says:

    😂😂😂😂😂

  45. David Says:

Helaire Or Cam Akers rd 2

    Rd 1 O Line
Rd 3&4 in no particular order – D Line and QB

On another note- Randy Moss does not get enough credit for how football smart he was.

  46. JimbobBucsFan Says:

It’s amazing how as soon as we lose one troll, another one pops to replace him.

OK @Joes, are you letting DannyDimes take over this site?

  47. DanBucsFan Says:

Is DannyDimes the poster formally lnow as Tmaxon?

  48. WestChap Says:

Why is a Giants fan (DannyDimes) even on this site? Has he flown south until the virus runs its course? Go back to haunting the Big Blue.

  49. WestChap Says:

It would be symmetry if Brady’s Bucs were to beat Brady’s ex-Patriots just like Gruden’s Bucs beat Gruden’s ex-Raiders!

  50. Patrickbucs Says:

    Sloppy routes lol

  51. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Brad’s salary is guaranteed, but I have to wonder IF it is guaranteed even if there is no football season.
I do know it is guaranteed if he gets injured.

  52. Cassidysid Says:

I’m hoping there is still a football season

  53. NOLES Says:

    NDOG –

Moss helped the RB’s & WR’s bc they ran the routes together, so Moss was giving them keys to what they see to let them know the coverage. For instance keeping eye on safety and 1st movement after snap can help determine cover 2, 3, man etc.. as they change coverage after snap to try and fool QB’s etc.. since Moss is in that position he helped them with the view which is different from where the QB sits so it was even more intimate knowledge than even Brady could provide, he doesn’t run the routes amd potentially see the same que’s that Moss see’s from the WR position.

JW is not good and you can’t seem to grasp that & to answer your question Mike Evans is a LAZY route runner. He wins bc of natural ability & size not bc of his route running. Godwin runs better routes and Miller & Watson not so
    Much…

If the tackles are gone and no trade partners are available I am good w a WR to replace Evans after this year. We can’t pay Godwin & Evans. We will not have 2 $17 million receivers & my preference is Godwin.. we could trade Evans next yr

  54. Asdf Says:

    @ndog

Randy Moss came to the patriots in 2007 – 13 years ago.

1/ Brady was not the GOAT yet, 2/ this would mean that he learned from a HOF WR and can now also pass of that knowledge to future teammates… 13 years later

Might be the worst comment I’ve seen you post. Stay in your lane of praising JW
