High Goals For Mekhi Becton

April 21st, 2020

Goals.

Joe sure likes this guy’s attitude.

Massive offensive tackle Mekhi Becton (6-7, 364 pounds) could have easily said that he just wants to do what his new team wants and he will try hard, give good effort and good things will fall into place.

Blah!

Becton has high goals. In this Yahoo! Sports video, Becton tells Eric Edholm that in order to be the best, you have to prove your worth against the best. And who does Becton consider the best? Houston’s J.J. Watt.

Yes, Becton might be a tad overweight. This doesn’t bother Joe a lot. Is it a concern? Sure.

Once Becton arrives in Tampa, should the Bucs draft him, the Bucs could put him on a top-shelf nutrition program. And after a few underwear football practices in the brutal west-central Florida sun in July, Joe is going to guess that Becton won’t be struggling with his weight any longer.

Chris Simms did a video on his top 5 olineman and had Becton at #2. Watched some videos on him and this dude is an absolute monster. If he can keep his weight in check it will be like having a Vita Vea on offense.

He is a Massive Man………..Brady Protector!

  3. Sarasota Garey Says:

Is this a being high joke?

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Didn’t Becton just get popped with Drugs ?

  5. Anonymous Says:

I’d take him! Also did anybody hear the news about how the Bucs are thirsty for a shut down corner?

  6. Trench War Says:

I like the fact he smokes dope and says NFL be damned, I’ll do it my way. Just the right character for this team for sure. At least him and Sapp got somethin in common and should hit it off right away. Maybe someday they can name a strain of weed after him like Meckimillia. Let’s just hope with all the munchies he doesn’t eat his way out of the NFL. haha

  7. Cobraboy Says:

I will be shocked if this man-mountain does not go in the first 10 picks. The Bucs would have to pay dearly to get him and I don’t—or hope not—think the team will pay the price.

I want him, but have never focused on the guy because he’s a pipe dream (a drug reference.)

  8. Doctor_Berto Says:

    Becton or Wills please

  9. tbbucs3 Says:

Had no idea how huge he was. He looks like 4 Caleb Benenochs built into one.

even more a reason some fans will like him. Forget about the red flags

Yep but no word on what drug. We’re hoping that he’ll get Warren Sapped and fall to us.

He’s certainly an athletic freak and I believe I read in one review that he’s “mean”. A man that size who is also mean…he could become the right side of our OL. Cappa clearly has courage playing with a broken arm. If he continues to develop we might become a right handed running team.

Wouldn’t it be fun to watch Bechton take on Vea in training camp battles. Vea would perhaps be too far inside but in any one and one drills…

  12. TheBradyBunch Says:

StPete, don’t think right/left tackles take on defensive nose tackles very often…if ever.

  13. Leighroy Says:

Not worried, and I suspect being a one-off incident no team is either. Besides, once he stays clean for 60-days, he’s effectively cleared under the new CBA.

Laremy Tunsil (even bigger bonehead) has started 58 games and made the pro-bowl this year, so let’s not go writing off guys because they toked up. It’s 2020 folks…

  14. Barbosa Says:

How “high” are Bectons goals Joe? Warren sap or snoop dog levels?

  15. TheBradyBunch Says:

Leighroy nobody knows what drug he was popped for. If it was PEDs maybe that boosted his numbers that aren’t acutally realistic.

  16. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Like most here I doubt he drops to 14, but if by some fluke he does, BA’s drafting rookie O/linemen comments be damned, you have a perfect marriage of need and opportunity meeting. Unless teams know something seriously troubling about the guy, Licht would be wise to put the card in with Becton’s name on the pick. Unless they are coveting elite talent at another position and have the opportunity to get “their guy” that is.

  17. 541BucsFan Says:

Can you imagine being an agent of a first round draft pick right now?

Your client is an amped up kid that work his butt off for the last 4-8 years chasing a dream. He’s early 20s and about to become rich and famous!

He, his family, his teammates, his friends are just riding an emotional high. And …

Part of your job is to keep him from getting arrested, caught on social media, or posting anything stupid for six months. One common 20 something error can cost him (and you) millions!

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Brady

Agreed that’s why I said Vea would be too far inside but if they did any one on one work…just exciting to think of the collision these guys would produce.

  19. ItzOK Says:

It would be nice if the bucs got him but I don’t see this guy making t past 4 as the Giants will take him. If the Giants dont then the chargers will at 6 or the cardinals at 7. Hes the biggest and most athletic tackle. Those guys are rare when his biggest issue may be better technique or worry he could add weight those are two very coach able things nfl teams could manage. Special talent like Becton probably wont slide however if he does make it to say 9 the Bucs will need to trade up to get him.

  20. Bucsfan77 Says:

So he smoked weed, it’s legal for medical in most states and recreational in some. Sapp got popped multiple times for weed and I believe once for cocaine and we know how that turned out. If other teams let him drop to Bucs because of weed then they are stupid.
