Brady Under Pressure

April 28th, 2020

“Tom, you may want to bring that rookie to Jeter’s house. You can explain to him how much your performance means to me. Iowa! Those people are positively medieval. I’m told they actually shoot guns for fun there and place Bambi’s head on a wall. Cretins!”

Any wonder why Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht was so intent on trading up in the draft should be answered by a nugget from helmethair Mel Kiper, Jr. of BSPN.

As Peter King, who was (virtually) embedded with the Bucs for Thursday’s first round, Licht was hellbent on trading up in the draft, but couldn’t find a suitor. With all trades, it takes two to tango.

Licht did trade up one spot with the 49ers and got his man, offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs.

And Kiper detailed why Licht was bound and determined to get Wirfs.

[D]on’t forget that Brady, who turns 43 in August, really struggled under pressure last season, completing just 32% of his passes under duress, which ranked 30th in the NFL.

That’s a pretty significant number and not good in any way.

Joe has to wonder if the Bucs might go bargain shopping this summer for yet another veteran offensive lineman. Of course, the Bucs have very little cash left, so if they do sign someone, it will have to be near a rock bottom price.

Fluker got released. Might be nice to play for a ship for a year. Assuming his money situation is ok.

  2. Kalind Says:

Also, assumption is Warford is in the outs in NO. Could live w him too

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

“The key is not to get the offensive line to have TB12 hold the ball for 6 seconds

The Key is playcalling and quick recievers to get the ball out quick around 2 seconds

Are we going to change TB12 after 20 years?”

    Kobe Faker

  4. 2020 The Year of The GOAT Says:

Those are the facts kobe…. TB12. Doesn’t hang onto the ball … Forcing plays… Unfortunately JW. … Had a problem with just throwing it away … If he can mentally accept that his numbers would be much different ….. Oh yeah and staring at the reciever you want to throw it too.

  5. Youngbucs Says:

    🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱

  6. Ndog Says:

What you mean a 43 year old QB that has a fading arm and no mobility can’t handle pressure? No way

  7. Lord Says:

Agree with Kobe. And when none of your WRs can get separation or win contested balls your % under pressure will likely be bad

  8. Youngbucs Says:

    Tom Brady 24tds 4057yds 8ints rating88.0
    Jameis Winston 33tds 5109yds 30ints rating84.3
Yea I still take Brady at 43

  9. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog Winston is not better than Brady and dude is 43lol

  10. Youngbucs Says:

You losers have to hope and pray for Drew to get hurt. Just so lol your 😂hof QB can see the field. You guys are some low hanging fruit.

  11. AwShbucs Says:

This number is misleading for one key reason. Throw aways from the pocket.

Zack from strong opinion sports podcast did a video breakdown of Brady’s 2019 season and came away with a few very interesting nuggets.

Perhaps the most interesting of which is a new aspect to Brady’s game he seemed to implement more so than ever last year. And that is simply this, when faced with pressure in his face before his receivers had gotten open, rather than forcing a risking throw, Brady would simply throw the ball in the dirt near his receiver to avoid the sack and live to see another down.

Now on paper these plays appear no different than a normal incompletion, which led to this scary looking stat and Brady’s career low in completion percentage. But in actuality they are examples of cerebral quarterbacking at its finest.

  12. Ndog Says:

Actually YoungBucs if you are a Bucs fan you better hope Brees doesn’t get hurt cause if he does we have to deal with a QB that has a better arm, more mobile and for the first time in his professional life is playing with an elite back, elite offensive line and the best WR in football, along with a coach that understands balance. So actually the best thing that can happen to us is Brees staying nice and healthy.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

I agree with you 100% Joe … completing just 32% of his passes under pressure and ranking 30th in the NFL in that category is not good. Protecting Brady is a major concern, especially since he’s the oldest QB in the NFL and was never all that mobile anyways. Our OLine definitely has its work cut out for it, especially since every DLine we play will probably sell out to get to Brady. No problem though, our opponents still need to account for us having Blaine & Ryan in reserve. What could possibly go wrong.

  14. Joe Says:

    Fluker got released.

Thought of that yesterday. Not sure he’s going to come cheap.

  15. Mort Says:

Wonder how many of those incompletions were smart throw-always? Their WR corps was f—king awful last year. This is what happens when you throw it away instead of taking a sack and loss of yardage. Look deeper than one stat.

  16. Joe in Michigan Says:

Good point, Mort. Throw it away instead of throwing it up for grabs, that’s what SHOULD happen…Also, the only games Brady has missed in the last 11 years were due to suspension. He didn’t exactly have Art Shell and Gene Upshaw blocking for him in New England, he made his O-Line look better than they were.

  17. AwShbucs Says:

All yall need to do is read my comment lol. This percentage was in fact due to intelligent and timely throwaways from the pocket.

  18. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog swears his dreams are reality. So anyway what you are saying is the saints have everything Winston needs correct???? So let’s say he gets out there and continues the poor decision making is it all this elite talent around him fault???
I know it’s never 1 of your scenarios but he can get on the field and still suck like he has been. You never talk about him individually lol. I mean unless you’re comparing him to hof QBs 🙄.

  19. Ndog Says:

YoungBucs it is simple he if goes out and fails in the same situation that almost every very other QB has succeeded it is 100% on him. But that is not something that is likely but we shall see, that’s what makes sports great.

  20. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Brady’s struggles last year were in large part due to not having capable weapons/targets. His receivers struggled to get separation. He joins a LOADED Bucs team. Brady will BALL this year, just like Winston did, except without giving the ball away twice a game.

  21. Alanbucsfan Says:

A game with Jameis vs Brady in a high scoring shootout –
Now that would be some fantastic entertaining game.

  22. Bird Says:

Now jameis is better then brees
    😂

Ndog is the biggest nole weirdo ever
Taysom has to go down too
Payton said he is their #2

    Got 2 years 21 mil
Lets see if jameis gets 5 a year

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Ndog…Winston is not better than the future HOF Drew Brees.

  24. AwShbucs Says:

Alan… as one of the Joe’s likes to say, no team writes a soap opera quite like our Buccaneers.

    That would sight to behold.

  25. Bucsfan951 Says:

Is Brady older and less mobile?… of course! There is no denying that but he also slides around in the pocket and steps up WAY better than jw. Jw (in my opinion) is to blame for half of the sacks. His pocket movement/awareness is average at best.

Of course, if the sacks go down, ppl will say it’s due to the new rt

  26. Jeff Says:

Cappa is the weak link here. He’s not guard material. Wrong body for it.

  27. LordCornelius Says:

This makes me think of Aaron Rodgers. The Packers have totally screwed him the last few years in terms of giving him no weapons / WRs.

He’s had efficient seasons but only throwing like 25 TDs a year now vs 35-40 when he had legit weapons.

  28. Go Bucs 72 Says:

When the Bucs need money they always find a player or two that will restructure their contract. I feel like they will bring in a vet or two before it’s all said and done.

  29. Bobby M. Says:

I think we can bring Dotson back on the cheap with the selling point he’ll finally get a legit shot at the playoffs….can block for the GOAT as well as continue to build his retirement benefits while staying local. Its actually a pretty appealing set up for Dotson, not much pressure or wear/tear on the body.

  30. Lloyd Olson Says:

Tom Brady is perhaps past 40. He is in better condition than near anyone.
Simply follow how he conditions, and the condition man stays in. He is more than just a smart Quarter back.,You have to laugh, when you have a wife as good looking as his, the ——- keep rolling, 🙃 No one gets 6 rings on there hands being blank with no help, You can ask Joe Montana about that. Never a interception in a Super Bowl, what happened when he lost Jerry Rice. ????
It takes two to tango, if Gronkowski can stay healthy, some one has a problem
And the others the Bucks have are not bad. Don’t worry about Tommy, he will take care of Mommas boy 🤡😇👻

  31. 3rdGenNative Says:

NDog- So now JW is better than Brady AND Brees?? Wow, you really are delusional!😂😂

  32. JP09 Says:

Oh god, so now Nfog is saying Winston is better than Brees too hahahhaahahahahaahhahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahahahhhahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahahaha

  33. nfl fan Says:

    Ndog for President…LOL

  34. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

@Ndog Have you not been paying attention to the news? Winston will not see the playing field unless Brees “AND” Taysom Hill go down. Sorry buddy. but Winston is up there to try and learn the cerebral side of being a QB. And I hope he does learn and gets another opportunity to be a QB somewhere. But it doesn’t seem to be in NO.

  35. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

Just watched a you tube blog on why Wills was so much a better Tackle than Wirfs. I do hope that Wirfs watches that too because it is very telling. I think that the bucs oline coach will show Wirfs what to watch for and the correct way to block. On the flip side, I think Wirfs is so athletic that he will learn quick and be better than Wills. All I have heard is how much better Iowa was at coaching Oline, but after watching that blog maybe they should go to Alabama to learn how they teach their oline.

  36. Bucsgotachance..todonothing Says:

Better then brees…bhahahahaha…you sir need to go sit down somewhere

  37. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Jay Miss was throwing to Godwin and Evans. Brady was throwing to my mother-in-law.

  38. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

He also had nobody to really throw to last season 🤷🏻‍♂️

  39. Bucs Guy Says:

Who are you releasing or re-negotiating their contract? The Bucs are already $3,75M over the cap due to Gronk’s contract.
