Being Gronk

April 22nd, 2020

After winning the Super Bowl in what appeared to be his final NFL game, new Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski needed a month to recover from the rigors of NFL play just to be able to sleep normally, much less feel better.

In an interview with NBC News that was conducted last August, Gronkowski had a revealing sitdown explaining why he retired. He also offers a window into what NFL players absorb on the football field, both physically and mentally.

Gronkowski even admitted he does a lot of puzzles to try to keep his mind sharp and ward off the potential ravages of CTE.

Spooky “Roots” music constantly played in the background. Joe kept waiting for someone to lift an infant into the night sky.

OJ Howard about to be unemployed

  2. View from 132 Says:

The season is unlikely to occur, at least with live fans, but it’ll be fun to say what might have been.

  3. BUC CHEEKS Says:

I hope not Pablo, that means we cut him and got NOTHING!!!

  4. AL121976 Says:

why am i seeing people say that we gave up a 3rd comp pick next yr for him as well as a 4th this year?

  5. Mike Johnson Says:

Spin’em Gronk. You know deyham well you will not complete an entire season. The last time you did that was 2011. What an easy 10 mil for playing perhaps 8 or 9 games. Nice work if you can get it. My poor Bucs are all..Hyped out.

  6. TexBuc Says:

OJ trade for Julian Edelman and get the band back together

Good to hear that Gronk is recovered fully from what caused his retirement plus he has been staying in shape and that he might return to football. Sounds like he has worked on the mental side too. At the NFL level the mental side is much more important than playing in college. BA has a highly complicated playbook and WRs and TEs have to recognize the defensive scheme and pick the best alternative route (and the QB has to recognize the defensive scheme and which route the receiver or TE is supposed to pick and throw to that spot.) That is one reason why QBs their first year in BA’s scheme have lots more interceptions than they normally do. That also happened to Jameis when throwing to WRs their first year in BA’s system and they ran a lot of wrong routes and were not in the place to be able to knock the pass away if about to be intercepted and it looked like Jameis was throwing the ball way off course when it was thrown right and was an error by the WR. That means when Jameis does start again for another team his interceptions won’t be anywhere near 30 a year and with his better vision it may only be 10 or less. I just hope it is not replacing a retiring QB for the Saints!

Keep Howard if we can’t get at least a third. His salary isn’t exorbitant, and he is good insurance. We never know if Brate or Gronk might get injured.. And Auclair isn’t an answer.

  9. mark2001 Says:

Please Owlykat…don’t want to bash Jameis…but you and I have no idea how many Ints. Jameis would have the second year in his system. We do know Arians believed Jameis wasn’t the answer to get this team where he wanted to go. I wish him well… but there is a reason no one has signed him yet. Why don’t you guys just let it go. It is as if some of you are inviting someone to bash Jameis.

  10. mark2001 Says:

Tex…Edelman isn’t the player he used to be. If Miller can’t be that guy, we should be able to get another guy similar in the later rounds. And we can’t afford every desirable player. If we spend big money anywhere, I’d rather see us spend it on an O lineman.

  11. mark2001 Says:

AL.. you are right…you can’t get both. If you trade him, you don’t get a comp. pick.

  12. Jean Lafitte Says:

What’s not mentioned is his somewhat rocky relationship with Bill “The Tyrant” Belechick, and how it played a part in his retirement. The proof is when Brady left the Pats, Gronk all of a sudden comes back from retirement. I think they both have something to prove to “The Tyrant”.

BLACK-NALKED is bouncing off the walls….just like you didn’t understand the kneeling protest …you will never understand the power of “The SHIELD”!!!

  15. BigHog Says:

^^^BLACK-BALLED …there, fixed it before corrected …not that anyone cares!!

    Mark

    comment was in jest.
would rather draft a WR to develop and better for our salary cap.

I keep hearing fans all worried that Winston is going to go somewhere and walk on football water , i don’t and even if he does so what. He didnt do it here in 5 yrs. not bashing him just dont understand how some Buc fans read the future so negatively. Im pretty sure that the same type thing has happened to other teams where players developed after they leave. When Young left wasnt it to go to the LA Express for a few years and Doug Williams wasnt the starter at Wash. until a injury in the playoffs i think. My point is dont worry this aint then and this is going too be fun. The odds are 14/1 so hopefully they get to tee it up and WIN ONE FOR TAMPA BAY AT TAMPA BAY. GO BUCCANEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO. I know you can’t really compare the NFL to the military, but listening to Gronk saying how he felt about pain during a game. How the blood just rushes to the area. I have to laugh, because that’s how it was damn near every day in the army when we were training or deployed outside the wire.
