Frank Reich Shares His Tom Brady Evaluation

March 31st, 2020

The man who picked Philip Rivers to revitalize his 7-9 team has weighed in on Tom Brady.

And this should make Bucs fans happier than picking up 50 boneless Hooters wings and a 4-pack of Wavemaker Amber Ale.

Colts head coach Frank Reich, a former 13-year NFL quarterback himself, told the Indianapolis Star this week that he personally pored over Brady game film while he considered him to replace Jacoby Brissett as the team’s starter.

Reich loved what he saw.

“I watched all of his tape from the last two years,” Reich said. “I think he’s still playing at a super-, super-high level. We know he’s the best of all time for a reason. … I don’t understand how he’s doing it. He still threw a couple of balls in games, and I’m saying, ‘How is the guy throwing the ball this far?’ He’s incredible.”

“For us, we got the guy we thought was the right fit,” Reich said. “I don’t know if I’d say (Brady) wasn’t a fit. There’s always a fit when you have a great player, when you have maybe the best player of all time. There’s a lot of factors that go into these things, and as Chris and I sat down and talked about it. … The way this thing went, we felt good about it. …”

Of course, Reich had a long history with Rivers in San Diego and it’s unclear whether the Colts made an offer for Brady.

Regardless, it’s great to hear this analysis from a noted QB guru like Reich.

Bucs will play in the NFC Championship game. Hopefully win it.

I won’t go so far as to say we’ll have the #1 seed though. Not with us playing against the Saints.

    Falcons might…might play slightly better.

Panthers will be last in the division.

    Off topic:

NFL Owners voted to go to 14 teams in the playoffs. It’s official.

Just watching Brady film from the past two years and we’re going to kill it in the Red Zone with Evans, Godwin, and Brate.

I don’t know if I am buying that though. They signed Rivers before the chase for Brady was over. Just from a marketing standpoint why on earth wouldn’t the Colts go all in for Brady.

    Bunch

    Maybe Brady didn’t wanna…

Wanted to go to the NFC? On Grass..where it’s warm. Gisele on the beach (should it re-open) sounds good to me.

    Oh and NO State Tax.

Just watched his 2019 highlights myself and he still has it. I did notice that that o-line gave him a lot of protection though. They better go with a tackle in the first round.

Usually when they say “fit” they usually mean scheme but in this case it came down to price…indy has so much retooling to do. So it’s why he went that route.couldnt go all in for brady if there was no weapons or defense.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

If Indy took Rivers there’s no doubt they would have taken Brady over him. That’s just common sense.

You could bet your ass they talked to Brady and he wasn’t interested. He choose is over Indy. I’m certain of that.

I also think he may have chosen us over Tennessee. That one’s a little tougher since they have Tannehill. Might sound silly they see more upside with Tannehill but if you factor in age it could make sense.

But Tom did choose the Bucs which is cool to realize he did see a team here he could contend with.

I also think a lot has to do with our team makeup. Tom probably likes the way this team is constructed on offense and wants to lead a prolific offense. He’s got something to proove here with all these weapons at his disposal. Probably want to light up some scoreboards and show New England what they could of had if them gave him better weapons. And he’ll want to seal it with a ring.

    Dear Lord,

Please don’t cancel football this year.

    Please?

    Thank you.

    Amen.

We just hope shaq barrett has another great season. He was a big part in other teams going 3 in out. We need our offense out on the field more than the defense.

The NFL season almost certainly isn’t getting canceled — at least not to start the year. Every scientific paper I’ve seen on this thing says its seasonal, and that means even worst case this has mostly dried up by June if we don’t have it under control before then.

The downside of it being seasonal however is that come November/December, it comes back. What we can hope for is that it mutates during the summer to become more mild — which, btw, is what happens most of the time with these. Well, except for when they don’t.

ESPN has a story up saying the NFL expects the season to start on-time, and this is why. The news isn’t hidden or anything, just search for the name of the thing and add ‘heat’, ‘humidity’, ‘UV’ to the search term and you can read the summaries of the reports there. The NFL has that same info, but the NFL also knows its likely to come back late in the year.

If I was the NFL, I’d cancel two preseason games and move the season up at least a couple of weeks. If there is a good probability of the season getting suspended then the players union should be totally for moving the season up since that would mean extra game checks for players if the season was suspended (I don’t believe players will get full salaries if you lose, say, 6 games of the season).

Of course before you do any of this you see how the next month goes and if this follows the models or not. There’s no reason to rush into any decision in any case.

    Just my thoughts.

Rod- I hope you are right. Hopefully they will have a Tamaflu type treatment by the Fall. Even in these two best case scenarios it’s the worst year ever to be hosting the Super Bowl. The NFL screwing TAMPA is nothing new.
