Defensive Ends Just Got Interesting

March 2nd, 2020

On the move?

We bring you this brief break in Bucs quarterback drama to alert Bucs fans of potential movement among defensive ends.

Joe has been a big fan of Jacksonville’s Yannick Ngakoue for some time. And it seems his time in northeast Florida is coming to an end, either this offseason or in the near future.

Just minutes before the Jags announced they will franchise tag Ngakoue, the four-year Jags starter took to Twitter to announce he has no long-term plans to remain with the Jags.

In other words, Ngakoue is demanding a trade.

Now the Jags, who are jammed up against the cap, may not be able to afford Ngakoue. So he could very well be a sign-and-trade candidate much like Dee Ford was last year. Ford helped lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl after he was signed-and-traded by the Chiefs.

Why does Joe bring this up? Well, as we all know, Bucs outside linebacker/defensive end/edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul is also a free agent. There’s no telling if JPP wants to stay with the Bucs or if a team is lurking and will dangle a big paycheck in the background.

Former Bucs scout and NFL personnel man Pat Kirwan believes there will be several suitors for JPP.

Could the Bucs decide to invest in a younger version of JPP in Ngakoue and pull off a trade? Joe would be good with that.

Last year John Lynch, former Bucs great and shot-caller in San Francisco, coughed up a second-round pick for Ford. So Joe is looking at that as a starting point.

The thought of Ngakoue and Shaq Barrett as teammates for the foreseeable future makes Joe smile on this gloomy Monday morning.

Now, Joe will return to his previously scheduled programming of Decision Jameis 2020.

one more reason to trade ME, provided we get Brady is the only way I would do it, but this would loosen the purse strings.

I do like JPP and the leadership he brings though. hard to mess with a the good thing the D had going.

things that make you go hmmmmmm

  2. ncbucsfan Says:

Trade JPP, a 4th rd pick and a 3rd next year!!

  3. Sarasota Garey Says:

Robert says, you want us to trade our best player in his prime?

  4. Sarasota Garey Says:

ncbucsfan we cant trade people we dont have signed

  5. George Rauh Says:

Joe must be a Democrat. Spending more money then we have.

  6. NOLES Says:

I think JPP’s leadership is immeasurable on this team..:..

  7. Robert Says:

ME’s prime?????? that’s jump balls from JW. any other QB would have spread the ball more.

nothing more than padded stats. ME is over rated IMO, and too expensive unless we get a hot garbage qb like JW who needs someone to save his a$$.

  8. LordCornelius Says:

My main worry is this guy maybe just hates Florida lol.

I’m fine with a deal if I were to know that he actually really wants to play in Tampa but I doubt it.

  9. SC Bucs Fan Says:

ncbucs traded JPP? Why not trade Brady with him too since neither one is signed here.

  10. TexBuc Says:

We cannot trade a player that is not under contract and JPP is a free agent(no contract)

  11. BFFL Says:

I agree ME should be traded…been saying that for 3 months now.

He’s a great player but with the way Godwin played and Perriman finished the year and this being a strong rookie class for WR it just makes too much sense for a team strapped for cash that has big holes at QB, OT and safety.

  12. HOLLYWOOD Says:

Borrow from Pete to pay Paul?

  13. Patrickbucs Says:

ME is overpaid at $16? Top wr’s are now making $20, that would be a terrible move imo. As someone said earlier, he’s our best player. Maybe Godwin if he does it again this year.

yeah missing half the season and not showing up for voluntary workouts SCREAMS LEADERSHIP!!!!

  15. tmaxcon Says:

you people are so adorable with your pie in the sky dreams of brady and top tier free agents…. so laughable… bucs are the least desirable location in nfl not to mention they are NOT even close to sniffing the post season so these top tier guys are going to willingly spend the last couple of years of their careers losing with no hope for the post season. you people are so damn cute!!@!

  16. 813bucboi Says:

i’d take JPPs leadership over YNs youth….

a bunch of really good young talented players will become losers if they dont have leadership in the locker room…..

my biggest draw back is he was in the locker room with telvin smith, ramsey, & fournette…..those are the “leaders” of that team(along with CC)…..

which leadership style rubbed off on YN?….CC or JR?

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  17. RIs_Buc Says:

Great teams always draft superstars in hopes to trade them away.
Plus in tampa we have no problem attracting top FAs so we’ll just get the next Mike Evans when the time is right.
Im all about trading away a superstar in hopes of drafting the same superstar.
Jameis throws 30 ints so lets resign him and trade away ME.
cuz hey… itsTampa, we incubate your next superstar.

  18. CPN Says:

I agree with you Joe. I’d be good with Ngakoue if he wants to come to Tampa, and play ball. As long as the cap lines up for it.

  19. Pewter power Says:

I truly would not care who the quarterback was if we could make this happen, if we did this sign and trade Andy dalton would look a lot better….would I take this pass rusher contract over Winston’s? Winston who!!!!

  20. Joe Says:

Trade JPP, a 4th rd pick and a 3rd next year!!

Can’t since he’s about to be a free agent. Unless Bucs sign and trade him. And if Bucs do sign him, what’s the point of chasing another edge rusher?

  21. ATL Bucs Fan Says:

    Robert LMAO.
A blind man could tell you how good ME13 has been for us. Do you seriously watch games?

  22. ModHairKen Says:

I agree with TMAX, some of these little trade and free agent schemes are so stupid. As if there are no other teams out there, and players are just clamoring to come to Tampa. He is right, Tampa is not a preferred destination. The one enticement is no state income tax. It’s certainly not postseason accolades or playoff potential. Hell, Tampa can’t even get Lynch in the HOF. Tampa is the bottom ring of the NFL. Justin look at the dump the NFL schedulers took on Tampa last year.

Why would Tom Brady come here? The stellar OL? The great special teams? The porous defense? The Missing Link GM? The genius coaches who don’t know the rules? The stellar running game? The innovative playcalling?

  23. catcard202 Says:

Sign & Trade??? Nah – JAX will want a 2nd rd pick at min + YN wants $20M/yr for 4-5yrs…Would rather go after Bud Dupree in FA, if the FO cannot get JPP at reasonable coin. (JPP offer : 2yrs-$26M)

(Dupree contract guess 3yrs-$45M to 4yrs-$62M… But no draft pick capitol lost)

  24. Adrnagy Says:

Mike Evans makes the offense go. You can’t trade a beast like him. You guys are something else.

  25. Bucsfan77 Says:

So many people responding to an obvious troll post.

  26. Robert Says:

ME makes the offense go because we hat a crap qb who does not utilize weapons or read the field.

I’m not taking anything away from ME. he’s a stud, but we should be able to get some good picks for him and have his backup on standby already in Perriman.

if jw doesn’t simply lock onto ME and Goodwin, ME’s stats would be much lower, but our wins would be higher.

They’re bro’s….cool. glad you all love em, and er ME catchin hail mary’s. I prefer a balanced and winning offense that is unpredictable.

  27. BucsBall Says:

whoever on these boards comments “Trade ME” needs to immediately remove themselves from ever posting a comment again… i can continue this post by listing various stats as to why Mike Evans being traded WOULD BE the BIGGEST mistake… but I have a feeling all logic and reasoning is absent from anyone that would be serious about trading Mike Evans…

  28. CalBucsFan Says:

Anyone think the Bungels would take ME and the 14th pick for the No 1?

  29. catcard202 Says:

    no…

  30. Bucsfan951 Says:

Replace Evans with perriman… now I’ve heard it all.

    NDOGG!!! PLEASE COME BACK!!!

  31. catcard202 Says:

Never mind on Dupree…Steelers just tagged him.

  32. Buczilla Says:

Would it be wise to give both Shaq and this Yannick dude close to 20 million per year? If we can swing it with the salary cap most likely going up, I’m cool with it. JPP is a monster but he also ain’t getting any younger and does things that most teenagers have already grown out of doing.

  33. R.O. Says:

George.. You just displayed your ignorance for everyone to see.

  34. PTWalk Says:

Let’s put this trade MEvan to rest, keeping him won’t prevent us from doing/finding the right pieces to get us to the next level. Keeping him sure as hell does help us a whole more, with he and Godwin as a tandem it’s a nightmare for coordinators. With Evans it gives you a wider variety at QB because not as much pressure is put on whoever’ that may be. But without him you gotta have the right QB, which limits the choices.

  35. SickofLosing Says:

I hate when people suggest trading players that aren’t under contract, I keep seeing over and over on this here sight, i.e. Trade JPP, a 4th rd pick and a 3rd next year!!

    Lol
    Great post!

  38. unbelievable Says:

lol at trading Mike Evans, especially when you’re trying to woo a new QB

    JFC

  39. cmurda Says:

If we trade M.E., that would do it for Jason Licht. Then he would remove all doubt that he’s incapable at GM. Luckily, he’s not as hopeless at his job as some of these laughable posters would be. Trade M.E. Bwahahahaha. That’s hysterical. Have you actually been a fan of this team for more than a couple years? If so, you would know that we are in no shape to be trading away our best players.

  40. westernbuc Says:

Why does this guy want out of Jacksonville? It’s not often these situations work out

  41. WestChap Says:

Joe, can you add in a like/dislike feature? I need some way to more directly express my dismay at these “trade ME” comments. Argh!

  42. TOM Says:

Never gave much thought about trading ME, but no harm listening to offers.

  43. Vinny Says:

And how are we going to pay for both bBarret and he? And a QB? And then Chris Godwin?

    ….. I’ll wait

  44. pick6 Says:

YN has been a malcontent and he will soon be a well paid malcontent, diva attitudes often catch up to players when they move on from the team that drafted them…and too often the bucs have been the victims of that. Stick to guys with great attitudes and who still feel they have more to prove, not guys who think they are too good for the team that drafted them

  45. catcard202 Says:

I have no problem w/ NFL players wanting to get paid….But if you signed a rookie contract…Be a man of honor & play it out.

If you want to holdout after being Franchise Tagged after…When your getting a HUGE BUMP from the base rookie contract…So be it. It is what it is.

But it’s always wiser to take the coin & play out that year…(betting on your play doing the talking, while also placing a hefty real life insurance policy on yourself – in case of injury)….As team RARELY use the FT on same player 2yrs in row – due to the CAP hit now being astronomical.

Plus, if you get a “Clubhouse Cancer” tag for being some vile in commentary about the organization…That will lower your value, when you do get to the open market.

I mean, what GM wants to bring in a guy that w/ air the clubs dirty laundry in the media/social media – if he doesn’t like the direction of FO???
