Best Duo

Analyzes Bucs WRs.

She didn’t need NextGen Stats.

In a piece on NFL.com where she breaks down NFL wide receivers, NFL Network analyst and stathead Cynthia Frelund– she doesn’t look like a stathead — used all that data from NextGen Stats she has at her fingertips.

But all she really needed was to watch the highlights.

In her analysis of the best one-two punches of receivers for each team, Frelund notes no duo was better than Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Top three WRs in 2019: Chris Godwin (86-1,333-9), Mike Evans (67-1,157-8), Breshad Perriman (36-645-6 — UFA).

No wide receiver duo created a higher win share in my model than Evans and Godwin last season. The Bucs are another team that doesn’t need to devote huge resources to changing the receiving corps, especially considering the Tampa receivers’ air yards-per-target mark of 13.9 ranked best in the NFL, per NGS. And also, there’s Bruce Arians.

Yes, the Bucs have the receivers, though they may have to draft a guy to replace Breshad Perriman — the draft is supposed to be unreal deep at receiver.

We know Bucs receivers can catch. But if the Bucs decided to toss Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, out with the old uniforms at the nearest landfill, can they find a guy who can get Evans and Godwin the ball?

Only a crappy qb can have a top wr duo…

The crappy qb will be gone and a more accurate qb will take his place to help push to playoffs with excellent receivers.

Clearly you are just Another hater setting himself up for a glazer nutpunch. Lindsay Lohan has a better shot at Bidens vp choice than bucs do of competing for a playoff spot even with the league lowering standards by adding more bad teams to the postseason in the name if inclusion versus deserving or earning it . .

  4. Robert Says:

they are bad a $ $ , no doubt………but the TE should have gotten more balls.

and ME should be dealt to save cap room if we land Brady.

  5. Umm Says:

If the Bucs let Jameis walk. All those Winston haters are going to be scratching their heads wondering why the offense went from top 3 to middle of the pack. Gonna be screaming in these comments like they are now, wondering why the Bucs are 7-9 again..

  6. DoooshLaRue Says:

Josh McCown to ME ….. remember?

  7. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Hey member when Mclown and glennon got mike Evans the ball for 1000 yards as a rookie. It’s almost as though WRs bail out mediocre QBs a lot

I’m curious what our “top 3” offense has gotten us exactly

  10. Pewter power Says:

Some idiots to think that the passing offense would suck with any other quarterback basically what your saying is winston makes our receivers good which is stupid and sounds totally ridiculous.

Winston is talented no doubt no one denies that but you morons cant understand leading the league in turnovers over rules having number 1 offense. 7-9 was the result soooooo even if offense isn’t as good we will win more games by limiting turnovers. This is real life not madden

You should be more concerned how many blowouts and blown leads jameis has had to deal with throughout his career. This defense has a secondary in diapers and more questions than answers nothing about this franchise is close to competing consistently at a nfl level…. jameis was 7 last time this minor league franchise won a game that mattered…. ignorant bucfans blaming a 26 year old savior for a 43 year old problem is exactly why the nfl world laughs at both bucs and bucfan the most irrelevant fanbase in sports.

  12. Umm Says:

You mention a simple fact that the Bucs had a top 3 offense and those Winston haters just go loopy hahahahahahaha bahahahaha. My goodness what did this 25 yr old ever do to you. Hahaha

  13. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    >the QB is the only person on the offense

Some of you guys really make me think.

” especially considering the Tampa receivers’ air yards-per-target mark of 13.9 ranked best in the NFL,”

No risk it no biscuit offense. Too much risk for my liking especially when the Bucs are inside their own 25.

  15. Bucsalltheway Says:

Jameis turned it on after week 3 the defense didnt come around until week 7 or 8. So how much blame is actually Winston’s. Quick questions for my former players on this thread..if a quarterback throws 55-60+ times a game and the run poses as minimum threat how many balls do you get hands on or keep? This league can make you go from zero to 100 being one dimensional 75% of the time.

Tmaxcon: Only a crappy qb can have a top wr duo…

That doesn’t even make sense! you really need to give it a rest!

  17. tmaxcon Says:

No risk it no biscuit is just code for BA to throw his qb under the bus when his rookie play caller and senile arse acrews up…. jameis has been setup to fail from day 1 by this incompetent organization. Free jameis he has served enough time in nfl hell

  18. gotbbucs Says:

    @Bucsalltheway

Winston averaged 39 attempts per game with two games above 50 attempts. In those two 50 attempt games he had 7 interceptions. Did those interceptions force the team to play catch up and thus more pass attempts? Very likely.

Winston had 30 interceptions forcing a lot of catchup. His attempts and yards support the notion that the turnovers with Winston have a direct correlation to his stats.

The coaching staff could have pulled back the reigns and run the ball alot when trailing and avoided more interceptions, but they had a 5th year, #1 overall pick at QB and two legit All Pro receivers at their disposal so they chose to continue to throw, hoping their 5th year, #1 overall pick QB would somehow quit pissing his bed.
He did not quit pissing the bed, in fact he pissed the bed more when it mattered more, so here the organization sits with stained sheets that they’re not quite sure they want to try and wash again. If you’re still putting down rubber sheets putting pullups on your 25 year old, 5th year in the NFL, #1 overall pick QB, then you have to wonder if they’ll ever quit pissing the bed on game day.

ME13 got johnny football and mike glennon paid…..

ME13 & CG12 made JW look better than he is…..

those 2 have proven they can produce in the league….they just need a QB that’ll help them produce Ws NOT #s……

2018 Bucs had more passing yards in less passing attempts, more passing TD’s and less int dispute splitting time between Fitzmagic and jay-miss!!!!!!!!!!!!! To say the passing yards are because of jay-lose is foolish!!!!!!!!! Its already been proven!!!!!!!!!

All ole stale biscuit and the burnt out licht bulb have to do is find a better qb than Fitz!!!!!!!!!!

Softer schedule with a healthier team!!!!!!!!!! 7-9!!!! Losing season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They just needed coaching up huh!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go on that call!!!!!!!!!!!! At least you seemed to learn, since you have had a huge list of replacement and roster upgrades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the point was with Fitz playing almost half the time, the passing was better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which means upgrading the QB position should be rather easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How read it three times slowly out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. FFS Says:

This is definitely a full service forum where you can be a moron no matter what side of the Jameis issue you’re on. I guess I’m a double-moron because I see both sides and part of me wants him to stay and part wants him gone. I ultimately have to trust that professionals who have done this all their lives will figure out the best path.

There are a few things that make me lean toward the jettison Jameis side of the boat though:

    1. He insisted after his latest, but no way his last, pick-six that the guy was open. Re-watching it 5 or 6 times, I’ll be damned if there was any room to throw that ball into. So first strike, he’s delusional.

    2. We have all watched his picks and screamed in pain but in the aftermath, some want to grade him on the curve of x% weren’t his fault. Okay, let’s say we buy that. In that case, 20 picks is the new horrible and a quality QB should be expected to throw no more than 6-8 “adjusted” picks.

3.Beyond all that, here’s my real problem and it falls under, “Who ya gonna believe, me our your lyin’ eyes?” I’ve seen (and so have all of you) games where Jameis threw 2-4 picks and COULD HAVE THROWN A LOT MORE! He shows every week why linebackers aren’t tight ends and D backs aren’t receivers…cuz they can’t catch. I have seen games where he should have thrown 6 or 7 picks but they were dropped. I have this generic picture burned in my head from repeated TV game viewings where the LB or DB is hitting himself on the helmet or pounding the ground after just missing another pick. So the real argument may not be, “Only 20 were his fault.” Rather, it is “How did this guy not throw 40 picks?”

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

Cynthia can analyse me any day of the week guys.

  27. JimmyJack Says:

Dang bro you must have missed what that defense did in closing out the season. For somebody with such a big mouth you sure do understand very little about this team you supposedly follow……..and yeah come back with your nonsense reasoning and typical buffoonery. My only response to you is watch what this defense does in 2020.

  28. WestChap Says:

Our receivers are studs period! Our QB could be but is not.

So, we need to spend some picks/cap at OL and RB while using most of available cap on DL… meaning we have $x to spend on as good a QB as we can land. IF your asking price doesn’t fit our budget, you’ve eliminated yourself from the discussion. Because our WRs are so good, we have greater flexibility in QB.

    See, no hate. Just facts.

  29. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

First Manziel and now Winston. Imagine what Evans would do with a real quarterback.

Joe are you sure you don’t really love Evans, the man behind the success of your two most notable man-crushes in recent years?

    NOT TRUE at all!!!!!!!!

we played the same amount of playoff teams as last year….

    but we won 2more games…..

so yeah, all BA had to do was coach the dirk outta them!!!!!!….

but yeah, dirk and smitty were such good coaches, teams were lining up at their door to hire them….lol…..Way to go on that call!!!!!!!!!!!!

whats smittys record while coaching girls flagfootball?….0-5?..0-6?….looks like business as usual with him…..

the point im making is who cares if the passing was better…..we won 5games in 2018!!!!!!!!!

thats why he AINT getting paid this off-season….lol….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  33. stpetebucsfan Says:

Given the headline and that pic I had to read the story to find out what it was really about!

I get the JW love but sometimes it grows absurd…really. Anybody who believes JW “made” either ME13 or Godwin starts their pregame drinking too early.

If anything it was the other way around. We don’t need to worry about getting a QB who can get the ball to our two superstar WR’s.

As JW has shown us for the past five years with ME and the past two with Godwin our next QB will not need to get the ball “to” ME or Godwin…he just needs to get it into the same zip code and let them work their magic.

When all this blows up in glazers and ba faces once again ill be laughing and right. Live it up now but anyone with half a brain understands this franchise is much closer to the basement than a Lombardi…. results prove it…. the list of talented first rd picks this franchise has failed to develop far exceeds the number of winning seasons this franchise has…
