“We Just Know That He Needs To Be Consistent”

February 15th, 2020

Bucs co-owner Joel Glazer

Astute observers realize Decision Jameis is controlled by Team Glazer, even if that means ownership giving the call to Bucco Bruce Arians.

So it’s valuable to know what Team Glazer says about America’s Quarterback.

When Joe last formally talked to Buccaneers co-chairman/co-owner Joel Glazer at the 2019 NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, Joe asked Glazer for take on Jameis as he embarked on his fifth season.

Joe finds it telling to look back on the answer and see that Glazer referenced Jameis’ inconsistency, and twice referenced Jameis needing to be consistent in 2019.

Joe: What excites you most about Jameis? Knowing him now, fifth year as a Buccaneer, he is sort of by default the face of the franchise. What do you like about where he’s at?

Joel Glazer: With Jameis, if you look at last year or even the previous year, two years ago where he had the injury for half the year, he came back the second half of the year and played very well. Last year, again, beginning of the year, then the second half of the year played well. So, you know, we’ve seen what he can do. We just know that he needs to be consistent. I know that he knows he needs the consistency. But I know this much, nobody’s going to work harder. He’ll always be the first one there and the last one to leave. And nobody wants to win more than Jameis Winston.

And here we are.

In 2019, Jameis was inconsistent, all over the place in his performance with extreme highs and lows. Hard work didn’t make Jameis consistent, and neither did an unmatched desire to win.

That doesn’t mean Jameis sucks, but it does mean Team Glazer didn’t get want it felt it needed from the face of the franchise.

Joe remains convinced the Bucs are keeping their options open at quarterback while also realizing Jameis is a valuable player they’ll probably end up franchise-tagging by the March 10 deadline, nearly a week before they can talk to most soon-to-be free agents.

The Loser Glazer boys better not resign this imposter named Jameis Winston

    …..BETTER NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Don’t screw over the fans another season by this fraud of a unfranchise QB….

Jamies is quality backup material…………WE ALL KNOW THIS MENG!!!!!!

  3. Buc believer Says:

Yes be consistent…. just like the Glazers have consistently given us crappy teams since the Super Bowl while they consistently put money in the bank.

  4. Ndog Says:

Ask you this, what was consistent around him besides a crappy running game and crappy kicker? So the entire team can be inconsistent yet the most dependent position on the field must be perfect despite them? That seems realistic

  5. Ndog Says:

You have it wrong Anthem, like usual, they would only be screwing over the fans if they don’t bring him back.

  6. mark2001 Says:

Didn’t get “what” they needed, Joe. Look out man…you just did a mark2001.

  7. John Sinclear Says:

Suggestion – Let him test free agency to find out what other teams think he’s worth. Then take it from there. He will not pull $30 million out of anybody’s hat.

  8. Check your sheet Says:

All you ATM (America’s turnover machine) apologists can switch allegiances and cheer for whatever sucker team signs Wins none after the Bucs end this disaster of a “franchise” and put the real Buc fans out of their misery. 5 years to fix the stupid and the ATM turned the ball over in spectacular fashion. Let him be someone else’s nightmare. He will never win a Superbowl because he will always melt down at the most crucial time and turn the ball over. It is what he does the most consistently and I’ve seen enough of the stupid. Go Bucs!

  9. Ndog Says:

I can just see it now we are going to be flirting with these other washer up or noodle arm QBs while Jameis is also talking to other teams. We will think we have one of these bums in the bag let Jameis walk only to have the bum we choose back out on us last minute Parcells style. Then we are left with no Jameis, no replacement but it will all be good, right coach, cause we have this great defense to carry the team.

But then they realize that the Defense did finish the year well but it was against David Blough, Jacob Brissett Nick Foles ( and the greatvJags) a running team in Houston and a team with no oline in Atlanta.

So then we have no QB, an overpaid defense and of course still no kicker. Sounds like the Bucs alright.

  10. Check your sheet Says:

I’d take Brady, Bridgewater, Brees, Rivers, or Dalton over the ATM. I don’t need 5 thousand yards with 35 turnovers. Any person with common since knows the ATM can’t be fixed. Let a free agent qb play for a year or two, draft a future qb and offensive tackle and the Wisconsin running back, and Go Bucs!

  11. mark clements Says:

Only eight qbs have ever passed for over 5000 yds and he did that without a running game to help him. So let’s run him off. IDIOTS!

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is what you get when there is absolutely no news…..a quote from the 2019 owner’s meeting….
I can feel the frustration building on a daily basis…..
Well, actually no new is usually good news this time of year…….news means some sort of non-football injury, a wife beating….drunken driving or Uber hassles.

  13. tmaxcon Says:

glazers think jameis needs consistency when the only constant the glazers have given the bucfan is basement titles and embarrassing blowouts. pot calling kettle black is pretty damn funny….

  14. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

I think Jameis should be franchised. He’s got new eyes and needs a 2nd year under BA’s offense.

He threw for 5,000 yards and over 30 TDs, if he cuts down on the picks, he improves to 6,000 yards and 40 TDs.

They still need to investigate why he throws all his picks at home. I have people in my family who are closet drunks who you would never suspect their darkest secrets. Saturday night at home they drink themselves into a stupor. Sunday they can’t perform.

  15. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Maybe he needs to tone down the work ethic just a hair and RELAX!

  16. Ndog Says:

Hey Check you sheet you should probably listen to your name as you left off that #3 scoring offense in the NFL. Do you not need that either?

  17. Tye Says:

HCs look at character through players words as well as actions:

Last off season if I remember correctly:
“I had to look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘Hey Jameis, what do you have to do?’ Jameis explained. “And that was simply, ‘Get back to playing Jameis Winston football. Be yourself. Have that swag. Don’t try to be something that a coach is trying to get you to be.’ You know, you gotta go and be you.”

‘Dont try to be something that coach is trying to get you to be.’

    End of the season:
“you look at my numbers, I’m ballin’!’

That is the mindset of a player that has an inflated image of himself and has believed his own hype since college that he is most likely uncoachable… Not because of lack of intelligence but delusion that he is all that and no one is going to take credit for his success.. being coached to change bring about success then he would have to credit the coaches which by his own words tells his ego is reluctant to do…

At any level of football, no coach wants to deal with a QB full of himself!

  18. Pelsbuc61 Says:

So the new uniform teaser had a headline stating “Return to glory”. That means bring back a solid defense. That the true Bucs identity. Fans don’t need ATM to throw for meaningless yards in garbage time to pad the stats. He’s the defense’s worst enemy. I’m tired of hearing he’s a hard worker, baller and all the other descriptions. He’s a turnover machine on game day. Plain and simple. Never won a meaningful game as a Buc.

  19. ruggyup Says:

Fact! CEOs, by the bucket full, of multi-million dollar firms across the country understand, recognize and articulate major problems in their business! Facts are that most of them are very smart, very aware, very forceful, yet cannot allow themselves to make that hard decision needed to improve the business. Look inside Raymond James Stadium for a classic example.
Come on Bucs, wake up, don’t continue to stall and smell the roses, replant them.

  20. Check your sheet Says:

Ndog. Other quarterbacks can utilize our immense talent on offense. I’d be ok with a top ten offense that rarely turns the ball over and do you know why? Turnovers cost games and winning is what it is all about, right? Ballin’ ATM had 5100 yards and 35 turnovers. 35 turnovers bro. ATM loves to check his stats, except for wins and turnovers. Go Bucs!

  21. Crabby Fan Says:

    @Ndog

You stated you a are a bucs fan and would like to see JW head to another franchise thru free agency.

Out of curiosity, who would you prefer to see under center for 2020 out of all avaliable FAs and Draftees?

    Not being facicious…

  22. Adrnagy Says:

As a business , you keep your options open.
Biggest problem the Bucs have is the defense. Second kicker. Third penalties. And last is QB.

And to answer the QB decision it’s hard because you can’t point it all on him due to the whole team sucked.

Bruce failed in his first season. 1) our defense is fix. Wrong. 2) running game is fine. Wrong. 3) accountability. Well halfway wrong.

  23. Ndog Says:

We also had the number 3 scoring offense in the league. How do you win games if you don’t score smart guy?

  24. Cannuckbuc Says:

Ndog right on the money as always thanks Ndog for speaking common scents

  25. Adrnagy Says:

Winston will become a great qb. And a pro bowler. Once Bucs move on from him. Just like Tannehill. —-first 5 yrs bad performance in a bad team. Tannehill mature this season and good for him.
Same scenario will go for Winston.

  26. Doug Says:

    Sell the team to trump!

  27. Adrnagy Says:

It’s normal for most fans to blame Winston …. I mean , the QB has the football the most out of any player. So it’s easy to judge and dislike. But once you open your eyes and see the whole picture you go wow ! We have bigger problems.
    Run block
    Penalties
    Wr routes
Running backs. Block / catch/ yac
    Kicker
    Punter
    Special team coverage
    Defense
    Etc etc
    Bryon Leftwich
    Etc etc

  28. WestChap Says:

Blameless should be fine given he’s 100% consistent… in his 5 years of inconsistency. Off to Carolina with GMC so we can get a QB who wants Ws On the field and not for dinner. Ugh! The glass is always full of air… like his head.

  29. Clean House Says:

They should be trying to sign Winston to a four year deal

  30. Clean House Says:

The fact that these fat slobs Licht and Arians have anything to do with any players future is an obscenity. Mix in a salad you disgusting animals

In that vein, Commissioner Luck has tapped many of football’s most elite minds and luminaries for their input and recommendations, convening multiple meetings of his Football Reimagined Committee (FRC) to get down to the business of reimagining football.

  33. DBS Says:

SSDD. Same comments. Keep throwing out that hook. And the same fish bite.

  34. Mr. Reality Says:

Most common sense on Winston written yet, anywhere. Why I like it:

    – Those who know better have said all along the owners will make the call on this one. It is not just a football decision, but a strategic business decision. Arians is part of a longer-term strategic plan but he is not the strategy maker. Only the owners, GM, and COO have that role. Yes, Arians gets input, as does the GM, and believe it or now, the COO. But our team is not run by Jerry Jones. When the draft and FA is set, when the tickets are priced, and campaigns are in, the owners sit back and watch. Ready to make changes when appropriate.

    – Winston’s inconsistency is killing fan support. After five years, ticket buying fans have seen what they need to see. More excuses, like not drinking, God, new baby, Lasik, and next, “but I’m married and settled down now” don’t cut it. Winston has been given all the rope he needed to succeed, and he just hung himself each year.

Very telling that they said he needed to be consistent BEFORE the season of the most wild inconisistency ever. Many folks have known this all year. Even the Winston apologists knew that and are struggling with denial and deflection.

Here’s a little morsel to chop on. Right now, Winston is not coming back. Got that? He’s NOT coming back.

What might make him be ALLOWED to come back? Two things. First, Arians has to unequivacably convince owners he HAS FIXED Winston and this year won’t be like the last five. If Arians messes this up, he’ll be packing…which he may not care about…but what he will care about is his legacy is the QB whisperer was all a big joke because he failed bigtime. Not to mention the Glazers will look stupid if BA and Winston both fail, so Licht will be packing and the fan base will be irrecoverably smaller. Is that a risk worth taking? (No!).

Given the above, the second condition that must be met for Winston to come back is that NO other free agent veterans that can adequately manage this team is affordable. Rivers, Dalton, Flacco, Carr…in that order. Winston had a chance to be, but failed in a few ways at being the franchise QB. He will not get that shot again….here or anywhere.

The BEST hope for Winston is that stars align and both conditions above are not met. But for all but Winston and his apologists, the starts seem to be aligning well to go another direction.

And it started in late 2017 when Winston disgraced himself, his team, and the Tampa Bay area with his selfish behavior.

    Bank it.

  35. Dan Says:

How can anyone want this guy after 5 seasons. He’s gonna keep throwing picks over and over and hey why wouldn’t he after 5 years folks. Who in their right mind thinks he will just change. It’s beyond me how anyone who loves the Bucs can want this disaster near our franchise

  36. NPRSageBoy. Says:

So, I guess Joel Glazer is gonna be the guy who going to tell an antsy fan base that JayMiss is our guy.

Question though; can he do it with a straight face? If he can, give him an Oscar for Best Actor in a BS situation.

    Peace, out.

maybe when the results change the comments will too…. team has not won a meaningful game in 18 years pal they earn every bit of negativity and pessimistic comments they receive.

  38. Mr. Reality Says:

Dan, rumor has it that the Saints, Falcons, and Panthers are starting a “Save Jameis” drive. No one wants him to be our QB more than they do.

  39. Defense Rules Says:

Adrnagy … “Once you open your eyes and see the whole picture you go wow ! We have bigger problems”. You’re right Adrnagy, we have problems … but they’re ALL big.

At the PRESENT MOMENT, Bucs have NO starting QB, NO starting RT & NO starting RB on offense, as well as NO real #3 WR and minimal quality DEPTH at ALL positions. On defense we have THREE unsigned starters (Suh, JPP & Barrett) from last year, as well as minimal quality DEPTH at ALL positions. So that’s SIX of 22 starters, plus a bunch of DEPTH that’s missing RIGHT NOW.

The problem is … they’re ALL important. Put the wrong QB behind center & our whole offense will struggle (aka, Titans last year). Don’t fix the RT & RB problems and our running game will continue to flounder (forcing us yet again to lead the league in passing attempts?). And who among us wants to start over building a defense if we can’t re-sign our defensive FAs? Not me. Yup, Bucs management has its work cut out for it. I trust BA & TB to make good choices. JL & BL? Not as confident in their decision-making.

    Sell the team to trump!

Hunter Biden has more cash on hand at the moment! He also has been known to enjoy crack and strip joints both a staple of Tampa Bay. He’s your best bet not trump…..

  41. Mr. Reality Says:

NPRSageboy…that will be carefully approached too. If they allow Winston to return, they will likely do it over time, starting with Arians suddenly gushing about Winston. “EUREKA! The fix is in, and he’s going to be fine.” Followed by Licht who says he’s still got bang for the buck (he will make less than any tag would have paid and the time will be short and conditional). Then J. Glazer will talk about frustrated fans and understanding them, and saying they are giving him another year and they hope fans will see that.

And none of it would work in the end. So I think….

It will be one of those things that happen swiftly and without a lot of fanfare. A la GMC going to CAR. Hot news for a while, some hurt feelings, some “WTFs?” but it turned out fine for all.

  42. footballjunkie Says:

Raiders to offer TB12 2yrs $60 million, per PFT today, with credible sourcing.

If Chucky wants to phase Tommy to foolishly compete in the same division as THE CHIEFS…with no weapons but Jacobs and Waller and NO DEFENSE..why couldn’t Bryan in ownership authorize…

$40 million per for 2020 & 2021, fully guaranteed at signing, with a team option for 2022. Also in a no state income tax state, but not in the Chiefs division, much more sensible path to playoff success to meet Brady’s desire to win title without Belichick. Weapons and BA here. Trade for LeVeon to entice both Brady to play with our weapons and Bell, and vice versa.

Bryan has to truly back up those words of wanting to be the first team to play in the Super Bowl as a host team.

Glazers deserve every negative comment they receive. They are incompetent on 2 continents with 2 franchises… the only thing glazers deserve credit for is training low standard bucfan to accept failure with excuses and smiles. You cant be this bad for this long without trying to be this bad…. glazers are the worst owners in all of professional sports. They should be cleaning port o lets not running a NFL franchise. Culverhouse has more credibility than glazers

    Ndog,

    #TurnoverBlind

Turnover margin is why we need a new QB. Stop acting like the #3 scoring offense also comes at the cost of a -13 turnover differential. And 121 points off turnovers for other teams. If you subtract that from the offense, the “net points” (considering points scored/points off offensive turnovers) we are at about 22ppg

Keep performing mental gymnastics, but your blindness to turnovers will be made evident when FA approaches.

so to them is a business/money decision, not football decision…. which is understandable knowing that they have no knowledge how to run football team….

The very best thing for all of the other teams in the Buc’s division would be for the Bucs to bring back Winston.
He will always be consistently inconsistent, make one great throw followed by a terrible one, will win you some games and lose you some games.
With Winston you will always get a lot of very good mixed in with a lot of very bad. That’s just who Winston is and how he plays.
Anyone who expects that to ever change will end up being highly disappointed

Gawd, you must be a racist!

  65. Mr. Reality Says:

So the Glazers probably aren’t going to buy the laser schtick. There is only one thing left: the wedding. This RB for the XFL DC team looks pretty good – he’s quick, has excellent hands. No idea if he can block, but he looks like an NFL RB. The Bucs should bring him into camp and give him a look, no way he’s not better than Dare.

  72. MirrorMirrowOnTheWall Says:

Everyone should be good at their craft. It is a lot harder to play quarterback than it is to write a simple sentence. Hence: That doesn’t mean Jameis sucks, but it does mean Team Glazer didn’t get want it felt it needed from the face of the franchise.

  73. Mr. Reality Says:

Ndog…so are you actually paid by Winston or are you just good friends? Winston apologists about are saying “I’m not touching that stuff.” Silence of the Lambs.

  74. Rod Munch Says:

When the Bucs resign Winston I hope all the anti-Winston turds do the world a favor and commit mass harakiri, that’s the only way we’ll know for sure that they were actually sincere. But they won’t, but because they’re not sincere, they’re just boring dullards who are still made that Mike Glennon was let loose.

  75. Mr. Reality Says:

And Muncher, should they do the normal Buc blunder and sign Winston, and WHEN he flops yet again, what will be your next excuse? Yeah, it’s the wedding right? Too much poo poo in the diaper keeping him awake, and the bad eyes already wore out with you. What next, clown?

  76. Mr. Reality Says:

LOL… and Winston apologists always go back to Glennon….just like one of the Joes…oh, it’s Winston, Glennon, Gabbert. That’s who you want! Foolsl Too funny.

    ans: None of the above.

  77. Jean Lafitte Says:

When you look at all the hate that Buc fans have toward each other it can be attributed to the polarizing Jameis Winston. Instead of the “Face of the Franchise” bringing everyone together he has divided this fanbase in half. This fractured fanbase will never get better until JW can miraculously win more games for the Bucs or is launched off the team. After fives seasons so far the eye test would suggest that it would be a miracle that Jameis can win more than he gives away. Fans are frustrated and have split into two camps.

The Winston camp vs. the Buc’s camp

Fans who want the best for Jameis vs. fans who want the best for the team.

  78. Ndog Says:

No Jean it can be attributed to people like you who openly and actively cheer for OUR starting QB to fail. It freaking ridiculous that fans have to deal with losers like you on our own fan site rooting for us to fail.

  79. Ndog Says:

You Jean are the problem not the QB.

  80. Rod Munch Says:

Mr. Reality – Leading the league in passing, setting the team record for passing, being #2 in the NFL in TDs, setting the team record for scoring…

    Yeah, what a failure.

    LOL!

Do everyone a flavor and go jump off the Skyway, you’re too stupid to live.

  81. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Is Joel posting to JBF on his phone….what is his screen name I wonder ?

  82. SB Says:

Ask you this, what was consistent around him besides a crappy running game and crappy kicker? So the entire team can be inconsistent yet the most dependent position on the field must be perfect despite them? That seems realistic

Once again Ndog with bogus stats to defend his mancrush. Matt Gay was the 5th ranked kicker in the league. https://www.footballdb.com/stats/stats.html?mode=K
Also True Franchise QBs overcome other deficiencies. Hint: that is why they call them Franchise QBs

  83. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Winston

  84. Ofcourse Says:

    tmaxicon

I have no idea what you said back to me. Was that even English?
I’m sorry I don’t speak unemployment and low credit score.

  85. ATrain Says:

Dang Jamies it’s smart of you to come on here and help your case as part of the Fan Base

But tell me Jamies…. I Mean NDog do you really think people don’t know

No One could LoVE Jamies this much but JAMIES

You absolutely will not state Facts about The QB play

Sooo Jamies don’t stand for this Fan Bashing
Jump on another team AS GOOD AS YOU ARE several teams are just waiting to pay you 35 million a year easy

  86. ATrain Says:

By the way I have not seen One article on Teams wanting Jamies

I see Carr, Brady, Rivers, Dalton

    Nothing on Jamies ?????

Wonder Why if this Guy is the AWESOME QB NFog said he is???????

  87. Rod Munch Says:

Seriously…. these idiots running the Vipers aren’t using Flowers as their QB. Wow.

  88. Craig Says:

Jameis is consistent. He usually plays one good half and one bad half. Sometimes the good half is stronger than the bad half, or they play a team that sux worse than the Bucs. Sometimes the bad half is just stronger, or shows up in the second half and he gives it all away.

His inconsistency is the games where he is bad for both halves, but those usually only show up twice a season

  89. JP_09 Says:

For the people who want Winston back, what would your contract offer be to Winston? A tag, if so which one or a multi year deal, how long and how much?

  90. SB Says:

So Ndog (and others) like to blame Matt Gay for some losses.
Matt Gay graded out as the FIFTH BEST KICKER IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE.
    89.3% on PATs
    100% from 20 to 29 yards
    71% from 30 to 39 yards
    79% from 40 to 49 yards
    62% from 50 to 59 yards
That adds up to a total of 77% Total FGs made. 5th best in the League

    STOP with the BS Ndog

  91. Bucsfan951 Says:

Would love to have someone tell me how many tds Winston had last year to how many turnovers he had last yr? Would also love to see how many points were scored off of Winston turnovers last yr? While we’re at it, would love to see how he stacked up td/int thrown to the other 5k yard passers in the past?

Maybe someone can do the math and let me know points scored off of Winston turnovers, go ahead and subtract those points off of the final points scored by this “best scoring offense” and then average out the points scored by the offense and see where they rank. I mean, when you give the opponents 7.5 points per game in turnovers, it doesn’t mean anything, right?

Do I want Winston to do good, of course! But I’m not going to give him a free pass in yr 5 just bc he threw for 5k yards and 33 tds. Sorry but 7.5 points per game is a ton!!!

Again, I would be perfectly ok with the Bucs tagging Winston this yr. I’m not a Winston hater or troll. I hold ppl accountable for their actions!

  92. Rod Munch Says:

SB – Matt Gay LOST two games, period. He also didn’t win any games, period. I think he’ll be fine as a kicker, but he literally lost two games for the Bucs. That is beyond dispute.

  93. SB Says:

He!! Jameis has a 60.7 completion % FOR THE entire year. That is worse than Gay’s WORST % category

  94. Rod Munch Says:

Why the Vipers not playing Flowers? This is insane. He lead the offense right down the field with no issues last week – then they start this talentless stiff at QB. It’s ridiculous. Do these morons realize there’s like 63000 empty seats for next week’s game?

  95. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Have the Vipers been eliminated from the playoffs yet? Woops…another pick.

  96. Rod Munch Says:

SB – Even by triggered anti-Winston douchebag standards that’s a lame comment.

  97. Sport Says:

Extra surly on these pages recently. Unfortunately, it’s only going to get worse.

The offseason is long and brutal.

Especially so if you read any self proclaimed maligned individuals such as TMax.

NDog is tireless, true to his name, not worried about you bro. You’re strong.

And clearly if you glance and see !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In a post you can immediately ignore.

    Go Bucs!

    In BA I Trust!

  98. Ndog Says:

Again SB with just blindly looking at numbers but with no context. Typical for a CLUELESS football fan.

  99. JP_09 Says:

Rod Matt Gay also was a rookie playing for less than a million………….

  100. Tbbucs3 Says:

Matt Gay literally lost us the Giants game and the Falcons game last year.

Have Bucs fans kicking standards become so low that your good when you only cost your team 2 games?

  101. Rod Munch Says:

JP_09 – After being drafted last year Gay admitted he had never hit a game winning kick in his life. He had just never been in a situation to do so. Last year he was in one, and one of the easiest kicks he would ever make, and he missed it.

I’m not down on him and I think he’ll be just fine – but being a rookie and low paid doesn’t change the fact he cost the team two games and didn’t win any games for the team.

  102. SB Says:

If you want to call a player “Crappy” for being the 5th best kicker in the league what do you call your QB when he is ranked 22nd?

  103. Bucsfan951 Says:

I bet all of the Winston fan boys won’t answer my questions. It makes their case look horrible!

  104. SB Says:

    Kicker ranked 5th
    QB ranked 22nd.
    Period

  105. Ndog Says:

Bottom line of we had a kicker and ANY defense in the first half of the year we win 11 games last year with the QB doing nothing differently and that is with a broken thumb, turn meniscus and missing Evans and Godwin. It’s really simple the QB was not our problem last year. He just wasn’t no matter how much you tell and scream.

  106. Rod Munch Says:

SB – speaking of period, I think you’re on yours.

  107. JP_09 Says:

I agree I’m he should be held accountable for the Giants game, not so much the Falcons game. He didn’t miss the Game winning/tying kick in that game. Did he have a bad game? Yes, did his “franchise QB” have an opportunity to bail him out? Yes, did he? No which happened often. When your supposed to be that guy, the one who wants 30 million a year you have to be able to bail out your teammates when they have bad games

  108. JP_09 Says:

    Ndog, game 1. The D gave up 10 points…..

  109. Rod Munch Says:

JP_09 – LOL! He missed 3 FGs against the Falcons but he’s not responsible for it? Yes, one of the FGs was a bad snap, he wasn’t responsible for that, but he missed 2 others. Also against the Texans he missed a FG, but it was long so we don’t count that, but the Bucs lost the game by a FG.

He has to make some pressure kicks, and I think he will, but he didn’t do it as a rookie.

  110. Ndog Says:

Ok how about the Giants game, Rams game, Saints first game, Seahawks games and Arizona game?

  111. Tbbucs3 Says:

Matt Gay left 9 points on the board in the Falcons game……we kind of needed those points considering we were without our two best recievers.

That game should’ve never game into overtime. But Jameis haters are so delusional to the point where 9 points left on the board in the NFL is no big deal.

  112. Rod Munch Says:

Flowers did on 4th down what all the Winston haters want Winston to do – on 4th down just take a sack, don’t risk a TO, because you can’t win if you turn the ball over. Even if the TO is on 4th and 20 from your own 30 yard line and you’re down by 2 scores with 2 mins left – even then, you MUST not turn the ball over, just do like Mike Glennon or Derek Carr and throw the ball out of bounds or take the sack.

  113. JP_09 Says:

Rod if you look at it that way how many failed 3rd down passes did Winston have? Nobody is going to be perfect, like I said when your making 21 million vs 1 million your going to be expected to make those plays. Not giving Gay a pass at all but your leaders are supposed to step up.

I ask again, what contract do you offer Winston if you in charge. I’ve always stated I’d take him back at the right price

*correction the D gave up 17 vs the 9ers

  114. Tbbucs3 Says:

Few QBs in the NFL would be able to do much of anything when your #1 WR is Breshad Perriman and your #2 is Justin Watson.

Not to mention you have two head cases at TE and the most vanilla RB core in the NFL.

It’s amazing how we even had a chance to win those last two games.

  115. Rod Munch Says:

JP_09 – Winston was 10th in the NFL on 3rd down passing, and in previous years he’s been ranked in the top 5.

    Try again.

  116. Rod Munch Says:

So Flowers comes in, moves the ball, doesn’t get points but the offense shows life…

…and they take him out of the game again.

    Idiots.

  117. Rod Munch Says:

I’m shocked… the stiff QB comes in and promptly goes three and out.

This coach of the Vipers is a moron, no wonder he only lasted what, 2 years in the NFL?

  118. Tbbucs3 Says:

My god Marc Trestman is clueless

  119. Rod Munch Says:

Here’s a kind of sad fact… the Vipers will do a better TV number than the Lightning.

But, in fairness, why the Lightning playing at 4pm on a Saturday? Also the Lightning will sell a lot more tickets than the Vipers.

Last week the XFL outdrew not only the NHL, but the NBA. There will be a big drop off, as always happens when you have something new and go into week 2, but football, even 2nd rate football, draws viewers.

  120. Adrnagy Says:

Bruce wants Winston back period. He don’t want to go public and fall for the 30M demand while the defense needs the most help.

  121. JP_09 Says:

So what would you offer Winston if your were the GM?

  122. Rod Munch Says:

JP_09 – If they want to use the franchise tag, then that’s easy, you franchise him for a year. If they want to save that for Shaq, which is what they should do, the you give Winston probably a 5-year deal for like $150m – but in reality it’s more like a 2yr-$65m, but I’m not sure if they can actually pull that off, so it will probably be more like 3yr-$95m. In any case if Winston did bust then it won’t matter the cap hit as it would mean Arians is gone and the team goes into yet another rebuild.

As a reminder, yet again, Palmer, his first year under Arians, threw a career high number of picks at 24 – and he was a 36-year old vet at the time. His INTs fell dramatically after that first year, and that is what will happen with Winston.

  123. Rod Munch Says:

    Vipers game still scoreless…

Lets see what the idiot coach of Tampa does, probably goes back to the talentless stiff since he clearly has a guaranteed contract and wants to get fired so he can sit at home.

  124. BucEmUp Says:

I’m telling you if you give the kid (still only 25 years old) an above average defense to start a season, a half decent running back he will be great. And he won’t have a torn knee, bad eyes or a broken hand. Hopefully the kicker makes his shots as well. Jameis has played on 4 and 1/2 bad teams and one half a season with a good defense.

Jameis isn’t the problem.I would give him a 3 year deal.with incentives to not throw picks.

  125. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, on this awful Alka Seltzer ad that just played, it shows some d-bag on a treadmill at the end, and in the corner they had a disclaimer, “Do not attempt this at home”…

The guy is on a treadmill. Do not try using a treadmill at home?

Holy Jesus are corporate lawyers out of control.

  126. Rod Munch Says:

BucEmUp – Yeah, I agree with you.

I see a big jump next year, the team goes 11-5.

…and I’m not one of those homers who think the team is going to win the SB every year. The most I’ve ever picked this team to finish since 2003 is 9-7, and even that has been rare.

Give Winston a good defense, and his WRs back, and he’s going to be very very good, top 5 good. Just like Palmer, he’s going to make a big jump after his first year with Arians in terms of efficiency.

  127. TexBuc Says:

I think it is just killing some “fans” that no one from One Buc Place will just come out say we are moving on from Winston. Which leads me to believe both parties are still in talks for a possible a contract.

  128. Rod Munch Says:

This Vipers offensive play calling is garbage – and the coach is celebrating a FG. What a loser.

  129. ATrain Says:

    Yep NDog blame the Kicker

How does a Kicker lose a game

You mean he didn’t hit the kick to win the game when Jamies throw another turnover.

Kickers only save games when Offense don’t score

But honestly there is no changing the mind of a JamiesClown

You talk football like you know however NOTHING ABOUT THE CRAP JAMIES HAS DONE TO LOSE GAMES

    BLIND LOSER

Kiss your Jamies FatHead good night pass your bed time Mom is calling you from the basement

  130. ATrain Says:

By the way NDog STATS work just fine for you when you talk About Jamies

Oh I guess for the Reat of the Team it doesn’t matter

Another Clue to Just how much of a TOOL you are

  131. JP_09 Says:

@ so your saying roughly 30-32 mil per year? that’s a joke right there’s no way. A QB who makes 32 million better not use the excuses i’ve heard for him. I’d bring him back for the transition tag at 23. Then after next season “IF” (which that word has been used way to much when talking about Winston) he keeps the TDs around 28, INTs around 12 and wins 10+ games you can think about singing him to a long term contract.

What happens if you give him that contract and the same scenario from week 1 of 2019 happens week 1 of 2020, how long do you give him, when do you turn the page?

  132. SB Says:

Rod…….so you are having problems with Facts that don’t fit your narrative.
Women often have that problem. No wonder you know about periods. And no wonder your Handle points towards fellatio.

    You started this not me.

You just described Dungy the clown ball I’m surprised you are not impressed

  134. Rod Munch Says:

JP_09 – The fact you think you can keep him on the transition tag shows that you literally know nothing about football. It’s probably why you’re such a bore.

  135. Rod Munch Says:

SB – Women “often” have that problem? So you think men can have periods too? Wow, I knew you were dumb, but, wow, that’s a shocking level of stupid.

  136. BucU239 Says:

Wether you like him or not Jameis is the free agent QB with the most upside.

The talent and work-ethic is not the problem; I wouldn’t expect many people in this fanbase to understand this. The grass ain’t always greener on the other side, it just looks that way.

    Run Jameis run!

  137. SB Says:

Still nothing from Ndog about the Bucs having the 5th best kicker in the league, while still trying to blame a crappy kicking game for a great portion of winston’s woes. SMDH
I put the link proving it above and still crickets from the dog.

  138. Rod Munch Says:

The FOX broadcast of the XFL stinks, ESPN/ABC does such a better job with a ton more audio from coaches during plays, shoving a mic in players faces when they miss a kick or throw an INT. Meanwhile on Fox it’s just a traditional football broadcast, and it’s pretty dull.

  139. SB Says:

Rod your reading comprehension is worse than Ndogs.
    Re Read you dolt.
Women have problems when Men quote facts that don’t fit their narrative.
    Go drink some cranberry juice

  140. SB Says:

ALSO for the reading challenged for at least the tenth time, I want Winston back next yr.

  141. Bucsfan951 Says:

Still waiting for my questions to be answered…

  142. SB Says:

Oh it is the Kicker’s fault
    Kicker ranked 5th
    Oh the run game sucked
Run game 23rd (not good but no excuse)
Oh the WRs ran the wrong routes
2nd and 4th best WRs in the League.
    Oh it was the Defense.
8th ranked D over the second half of the season

I guess it was all the wind. And the hot dog vendors at the game. Surely they had a hand in it too.

  143. SB Says:

    Me too Bucsfan951

  144. JP_09 Says:

@Rod your right I know nothing about football. Well except one thing, when you walk up to the LOS look out and see Peyton Barber matched up against Richard Sherman, well that’s a mismatch…. For the defense, in what world does a “franchise qb” take that option when you have Evans, Godwin, Howard and Perriman all on the field too. He literally threw it to his 5th best receiving option against the 9ers #1 corner lol so yes as a guy who knows nothing about football, I know not to throw that ball. So what does that say about your QBs knowledge of the game if the guy who knows nothing knows that, but your 32 million dollar QB as you proposed doesn’t………

  145. Tbbucs3 Says:

    SB

Kicker ranked 5th……your looking at Fanasty football rankings which is irrelevant because the offense was so good which made him get a ton of opportunities.

Stop ignoring that the dude blew two games.

I don’t think any reasonable person would suggest that Matt Gay was the 5th best kicker in football last season.

  146. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, so first men can have periods – now SB is claiming #metoo

    LOL!

  147. Tbbucs3 Says:

“8th ranked D over the second half of the season”

The Bucs were also 5-3 over that course the season.

But don’t hear you talking too much about the defenses play in the 1st part of the season.

But don’t hear you talking too much about the defenses play in the 1st part of the season.

Why would I? All can agree that when you start that many rookies and second yr players on D the first half won’t be as good as the second half.
WHY does that have anything to do with ‘The Most NFL Ready Player in this Entire Draft’ has had 5 years to NOT HAVE EXCUSES?

  154. Tbbucs3 Says:

    SB

Matt Gay was 77% which was 25th in the NFL so your factually inaccurate.

    STOP with the BS Ndog

If you look at the site I posted they rank the kickers First by Points scored. He is the Fifth best Kicker in the league by Points Scored. Pretty simple.

  156. SB Says:

Kinda Like Jameis is second in the league in TDs and led the league in yards.
Gay had to score a lot of points when we couldn’t get in the End Zone

  157. Stanglassman Says:

Hopefully the people who want to drive Jameis out of town watched the vipers game. It’s a great reminder what it like to truly have bad Qb play.

  158. SB Says:

When your kicker can score that many points when the Offense can’t. You can’t hang it all on him when you consistently give the ball to the other team. He is the fifth highest Scorer in the League at his position. Chicken or the egg?

  159. SB Says:

Funny thing Stan is I actually really want JW back. I just cant stand the blind optimists.

  160. Bucsfan951 Says:

    4 qbs/over 2400 pass attempts/45 ints.

    Winston/625 passes/30 ints.

    This doesn’t fishy?

Damn kickers and defense making Winston throw ints!!!

  161. Tbbucs3 Says:

Exactly Stanglassman. Bucs fans are spolied for having an offense that puts up 25+ points a game

    And SB,

Fanasty football rankings are irrelevant for kickers. 77% was not 5th best, it was 25th in the league which is bad. So stop spreading misinformation.

  162. BucEmUp Says:

    SB,

So your saying the defense playing the first half of the season with a historically bad completion percentage, points allowed, yards allowed has nothing to do with a win and loss record? Your saying Jameis having a horrific running game and defense for 4 1/2 seasons has NOTHING to do with the wins and losses? Your saying that because he was the Most NFL ready QB when he was drafted that he is supposed to walk on water and overcome 4 1/2 years of complete crap? You’re funny.

He finished the second half of the season with a winning record and would have finished 11-5 WITH his interceptions had it not been for Matt Gay choking in two games. You hate HATE Jameis and regardless of what other things factor into the losses you will blame it on him along with every other hater. I really hope one of two things happen which will leave you and others silent as crickets at the end of 2020. Either the Bucs keep Jameis and he takes them to the playoffs, or he goes to another GOOD team and makes the playoffs in his first season there.

Then again, you would probably come up with a ton of excuses as to WHY he made the playoffs on another team like the fact that they had a good run game and good defense and not give him any of the credit…although you won’t use the fact that he has LACKED both of those two things throughout his entire career as an “Excuse”. This really is entertaining to sit back and see the hatred for Jameis from so many Bucs fans when all they have to say now is “He throws too many ints. I remember when he couldn’t throw a deep ball but you seem to have forgotten all about that huh? Keep hating man. The kid made some bad decisions when he was younger and you’ve branded him a villain for life and refuse to look past it, admit it.

  163. BucEmUp Says:

22 mil a year for three years with extra incentives if he keeps his int’s down. No incentives for yardage or point. Let the defense do their job which they will with Bowles. I think Gay will get better in his second year too early to give up on him.

  164. DBS Says:

Truly sad to watch your QB throw a pick 6 and heip lose the game.

  165. mark2001 Says:

Raiders offer Brady 60 mil, 2 year? Sounds like Carr might be available.

  166. DBS Says:

And where was the Vipers QB when he tossed that pick 6? Looked so familiar.

  167. SB Says:

BucEmUp, all I am saying is stop using the Kicker as an excuse. If you ask your kicker to score the Fifth most Points in the league and Six over Fifty yards then you asked alot of him already.
    Simple stuff

  168. SB Says:

    Whooooah! Just re-read your comment.

“You hate HATE Jameis and regardless of what other things factor into the losses you will blame it on him along with every other hater.”

You Obviously are not a regular here. If that is what you think then I will no longer respond to you as you don’t know me at all

  169. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Re-sign Jameis! Don’t make the fans go through another Quarterback Curse!

BTW, not that I think Brady will leave the Patriots, but if the Raiders land him, we could face them in a superbowl again.

    Just saying.

  170. Tbbucs3 Says:

“all I am saying is stop using the Kicker as an excuse”

Ok let’s just all ignore the kicker missing an easy game winning kick against the NY Giants after the QB made a great pass to ME13. Let’s forget about 9 points left off the board against the Falcons.

Let’s also ignore an atrocious 77% FG percentage. Yay Matt Gay is awesome! Its all Winstons Fault!

  171. JP_09 Says:

Let’s also ignore the atrocious 60.7% completion percentage that ranked 28th in the league. Yay Jameis Winston is awesome! It’s all Gay’s fault!

    Tbbucs3 Says:

Jeeesh is a third of this thread reading challenged?
I certainly never said it is all JW’s fault. I have supported him from day one. Still want him back. I am just tired of people saying we had crappy kicking when our kicker scored the FIFTH MOST POINTS in the League!! WHY would you ask your kicker to kick that much? Jeeesh simpletons. How hard is that to understand.
Man you apologists look to attack people an awful lot.

  173. Cb13 Says:

If we get Jonathan Taylor or Jk dobbins in the 2nd rd . Take DT or Edge or OT in 1st rd ,Combo Taylor or Dobbins wth Jones then we can run more play-Action which Winston is best at. Winston’s play-Action stats 2019 . 63/93 67.74 CMP%
1,183 yds 7TDs 1 Int. 129.9 QBR. Need a running game and beef up O-Line and of course try and keep D-Line at all costs . And Winston will have MVP season. Oh and can’t forget refs blowing inverted whistles to cost us games that doesn’t help either. GO BUCS 2020!!!!!

  174. Cb13 Says:

Eat on that Winston haters your clueless

  175. BucEmUp Says:

Ok let’s just all ignore the kicker missing an easy game winning kick against the NY Giants after the QB made a great pass to ME13. Let’s forget about 9 points left off the board against the Falcons

That leaves the Bucs with an 11-3 record for the 2019 season WITH his 30 ints. Now he has his eyes corrected , enters the season with an improved defense from the start and HOPEFULLY Leftwich learns how to scheme the running game better. Nothing but good things but half of the fans want Winston gone.

  176. Tbbucs3 Says:

    SB

In case you haven’t noticed….the Bucs offense is pretty good so naturally when your offense is good your going to ask your kicker to kick more. Now is that so hard to understand?

Hence, the KC Chiefs and NO Saints kicker are #1 and #2 in field goal attempts. Yet somehow they were competent enough to both make 88% of their field goal attempts.

The Bucs attempted the 4th most field goals last year but Matt Gay only made 77% of those kicks. Not good.

I’m sure Matt Gay was great for your Fanasty team but he wasn’t for the Bucs.

  177. Cb13 Says:

And threw less INT vs the blitz than non blitz

  178. Cb13 Says:

Just like Lict needs to be more consistent drafting better players to help Winston.Starts at the TOP

  180. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Funny how trolls who use multiple usernames complain about being moderated.

I have zero issues with being moderated…because I follow the rules.

  181. Defense Rules Says:

@Mark2001 … “Raiders offer Brady 60 mil, 2 year? Sounds like Carr might be available.” I read that (speculation) also, and would love to see Derek Carr become available. Gut feel however is that there’ll be a number of teams line up to make offers to Chucky for Carr’s contract. We’re not the only team that doesn’t have a bonafide starting QB under contract yet for 2020. Plus I’m still skeptical that Brady would ever play for any team other than the Patriots, and for any coach other than Bill Belicheck.

  182. Defense Rules Says:

@Bonzai … “I have zero issues with being moderated…because I follow the rules.”

    There are RULES?

  183. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If anyone cares about my opinion, I think Matt Gay didn’t do terribly bad. Yes, he fell apart at the end of the season, but he had some great games this year…for a rookie.

I’m in favor of having a competition at kicker, but I think he’ll come back strong and win it.

As to Jameis, I’m open-minded. I acknowledge his downside and upside. I do believe giving him another year is the smart mov.

    • His picks were unacceptable this year
    • The picks were caused by three things: Winston’s mistakes, bad pass blocking, and excessive deep plays
    • In 4 of his 5 years, Jameis had acceptable interceptions
    • In 4 of his 5 years, Jameis fumbles were limited, and many were not his fault
    • In 1 of 5 years, Jameis played with an injured throwing shoulder, which was the cause of many of his fumbles that year
    • In 2019, fans complained Jameis could not throw an accurate deep ball. In 2020, he proved them wrong and was one of the best at it
    • In 2019, fans claimed that Jameis having lots of yards didn’t matter because he didn’t score. In 2020, he was among the best at it.
    • In 2019, fans complained about his red zone production. In 2020, he was one of the best.
    • In 2020, Jameis had more yards than any time in his career.
    • In 2020, the Jameis-led offense improved to 3rd in the NFL.

People like to claim he won’t change or get better…but in 2020, the stats show otherwise. He got much, much better.

And, a reminder: He is only 25! The kid has 10-15 years left in him, lots of time to prove he can be elite.

Do not let him get away without being sure…and no matter how much the haters say otherwise, them claiming he will never be good is an emotionally influenced response.

He is finally starting to mature, and getting rid of him now would be restarting the Quarterback Curse.

  184. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Defense Rules, oh yeah.

Like, if Joe suspends you for something, then do be stupid and do it again.

If you really get moderated, then learn from it and don’t repeat the behavior.

    Pretty simple.

  185. tmaxcon Says:

Moderation is a badge of honor worn by realists.

Please Bucs bring back Jameis Winston! He’s to young and to talented to give up on him. I don’t know how to explain it or pinpoint it but something about him is going to be of greatness. In the end he’s worth the shot. Go Bucs! Go Jameis!

  189. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Jameis Winston

  190. BucsFan727 Says:

Im all for bringing Jamies back. He went from one of the worst deep ball passers to one of the best.Ya he struggled. And so did everyone else from BA on down. Regardless of who the QB is next year. The oline is average on a good day. TEs are below average blockers on a good day. RBs ehh Rojo got some tallent but his vision is below average. Need a jolt of talent in the RB room. Kicker was ok but lost us games when it mattered. Special teams has got to be the worst in the league. There is little to no depth on this team. Most the oline depth behind a average line.

  191. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Down with the sickness Bruce

Negotiate for Derek Carr, and give Winston his walking papers

..let him “ball” somewhere else. Let’s take a shot at winning our division while the stars align. Nobody with any real certainty can say whether Winston can get us there.

  192. Jean Lafitte Says:

    *add to last line*

    we’re 5 seasons in and it’s all “if’s” or “maybe’s”

  193. Bruce Blahak Says:

Tag? Extreme fail if that happens….doesn’t deserve anything but walking papers…

  194. SteveK Says:

5 years, let’s go another direction. Less turnovers and more wins please!

  195. Mr. Reality Says:

Bonzai…how many years goes Gay get to prove himself? I’ll bet it’s LESS THAN TWO. Yes, overall he performed okay, but he DID lose two games, one of them shared by Winston. QB is a different position, but same princple. Five years is already too long when you don’t “know.” Six is a joke. Move on. Let it go. Dont’ be silly.

  196. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai … EXCELLENT rundown at 9:57 PM. Agree with you about Matt Gay BTW (he’ll be our kicker for a long long time IMO). And personally think that Jameis will be here for another year (I think we’ll transition tag him, but you never know).

  197. RustyRhinos Says:

As Coach Parcels said “You are what your record says you are” and Winston’s record as of the end of his
2019 season is 28 wins and 42 losses. So from Winston’s record he is not a winner. 28-42. Has Winston lead his team of five seasons to any
NFC South division championship titles? Any playoff games? Has he led his team as the starting QB to anything close to division championships or gotten close to leading his team to the playoffs? With a five season record of 28-42 it’s obvious the answer is NO. So should we saddle him up for another season or more, full well knowing his record at this point in his NFL career. Tough choice for those in charge.
Time to move on? That is their decision.
The photo looks like he is watching yet another INT…

  198. T REX Says:

The Bucs have had a lot of BAD qbs…that’s why Winston has all these Buc records. We’ve also LOST a lot of games, yes? If Winston comes back he’ll have the record of the LOSINGEST QB in Bucs history. That takes lots of talent folks. He sucks and throws for a lot of garbage yards. No one cares about stats except losers and the Winston knob gobblers. You are all losers.

  199. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

    Astute article.

My guess is the Glazers would love a shiny new toy like Perfect Tom Brady. For a team with brutally low attendance because of the unlikeability of its players (particularly its “face of the franchise”) it would be like unloading a dump truck of cash in the Glazers driveway to sign Brady.
