“Torn” On Jameis

February 24th, 2020

Feedback from NFL suits.

A lot of the angry anti-Jameis crowd will have you believe no other NFL team would want him. So therefore neither should the Bucs.

Research by a national NFL writer with access to NFL shot-callers doesn’t find that to be the case.

In writing about possible quarterback movement, Jeremy Fowler of BSPN didn’t find the vile hatred for Jameis within NFL circles as it seems some fans have.

NFL personnel folks are legitimately torn on Winston, but one says he’ll have a market because he has played a lot of football, has big-play ability and, at the least, can be a spark for an offense similar to what Ryan Tannehill has been in Tennessee.

Joe likes the handle Fowler used on Jameis. “JameisCoaster.” That’s about right.

Joe accidentally ran across something very interesting. Hall of Fame quarterback George Blanda once had 42 picks in a season. That’s 42! And he has a bust in Canton. Just like Fran Tarkenton who had 32 interceptions for a division-winner. Or Terry Bradshaw who had 25 for a Super Bowl winner. None of those guys ever threw for 4,000 yards in a season much less 5,100 and only Blanda threw for 30 touchdowns in a season (36).

Say no more….Sign the man…We never had a Qb this good, nor we ever will….sign the man!

  2. Sharthappens Says:

He would be a serviceable backup. In the XFL. Love the fat boy pic Joe.

  3. #1 Pick QB 2 Cent Brain Says:

Sad Joe has to go so far back to try to justify the INTs as ok. Different eras is a poor comparison

  4. Check your sheet Says:

The ATM can sure spark and offense… and pee on the campfire while we all shake our heads in horror. Don’t bank your franchise and a chance, even if remote, to go to the playoffs with the Superbowl coming to Tampa next year on the turnover machine. Get Bridgewater or one of the other available free agents in here and draft another quarterback. DO NOT waste millions of dollars on the turnover machine. Go Bucs!

  5. isrBuc Says:

You keep ignoring the price. This is not black and white. Teams, including the bucs, will want Jameis if the price is right. What is that price is the question

  6. El Buco Realisto Says:

Jameiscoaster????? Where going up, needs to be pulled up, but the free fall by it’s own momentum!!!!!!!!!!!! Where most are tired of the ride, as it is the same thing year after year!!!!!!!! Then most “realize” by the end that the ride went nowhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Bob in Valrico Says:

Vile hatred, com’on Joe. Jameis has some performance issues that some fans find unacceptable. Jameis will never reach his full potential until he owns and corrects
    his TO issue.

  8. JP_09 Says:

I guarantee not one of those “shot callers” thinks he’s worth $30 million for 2020

  9. BucBoy Says:

Different times for sure. Terry Bradshaw had Franco Harris, Rocky Blier and The Steel Curtain Defense and he still threw 25 interceptions! And guess what…he also won four Super Bowls! Jamie’s has had none of that and outside of trying to will his team to win because his defense cant stop running water, ya’ll say he suck. I cant name over 3 QBs that have the overall stats that Jameis has in their first 5 years. He isn’t able to put those numbers up by mistake people.

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

The comparisons to HOF QBs is so ridiculous that it’s funny! Besides the fact that George Blanda played in a different era, he was also the effing kicker!
Now, if Jameis could kick PATs and FGs, I think we might give him a break!
Jameis hasn’t EARNED the right to be compared to any HOF QB, that’s a fact.

  11. Pewter power Says:

Lol damn Joe’s, George Blanda was born in 1927 those are some really old quarterbacks your comparing Winston. Uppity seem to be implying that a team can win in this league with that many picks. Winston still hasn’t done it so I guess its lichts fault had always had a top offense on yards but couldn’t punch the ball in the endzone it’s there coaches fault I guess it’s everyone’s fault except Winston. Honestly Winston had top thank Keith tandy and threw defense for his one winning season

  12. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Oh well then!!! Let’s put Winston in Canton since he tosses a lot of INTs!!! (Joe, that’s the angle you’re taking in that last paragraph)

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Agree with Bob in Valrico on the ‘vile hatred’ … that’s way over the top. Even Jameis’ detractors (oops forgot, the ‘haters’ in JBFville) recognize that he’s got a a lot of good QB skills; he just happens to have 1 or 2 ‘gifts’ that drive folks nuts (including his teammates it’s sounding like).

Jameis is still maturing IMO, but SOMETHING happened last year in his 1st year in BA’s offense that no one seems to be able to put their finger on. He had an average of 14.5 INTs/year in his 1st 4 years, then last year it more than DOUBLED. He had an average of 1 Pick-6 each season, but last year he threw SEVEN Pick-6s. He took an average of 30 sacks/year each season until 2019 … last year he took 47, and was under pressure a lot of other times. He had his highest TD percentage (5.3%) last year, but his INT percentage (4.8%) went out-of-sight. And all the while his completion % plummeted and so did his QB Rating.

And yet, if it wasn’t for the last 2 games we wouldn’t even be having this discussion. Had we won both games & we finished 9-7, and had Jameis not thrown an incredible 6 INTs in the process, the Bucs surely would’ve brought Jameis back no questions. But that’s NOT how the season ended. Playing with a potentially bum knee and bum throwing hand finger PROBABLY didn’t help, but neither did Jameis’ proclamation that ‘He be ballin’ followed by his agent’s demand of $30 mil plus for his future services (that IMO borders on delusional).

Despite all that, I’d have no problem seeing Jameis come back for 1 more year at a team-friendly cost. For $30 mil (plus) I wish him luck … elsewhere. Personally would rather have Derek Carr in any event, but the odds of that happening are close to zero I think. And IF Jameis does return for 2020, it’s essential IMO that he have COMPETITION for starting QB. If Ryan Griffin isn’t good enough in BA’s eyes to replace Jameis in those last 2 debacles then the Bucs probably need to release him from his 2020 contract. Bucs need to find a backup QB who BA will bring in next time that Jameis decides to play Santa Claus.

  14. Bucsfanman Says:

Blanda was also the team kicker, OK. These HOF comparisons are ridiculous because Jameis hasn’t EARNED it.
Now, if he can kick PATs and FGs, I think we could overlook some things!

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We need to stop worrying what Jameis might do for another team and focus on what he can or can’t do for us. If his mistakes can’t be fixed, we need to move on. Arians will make this call….we have no option but to trust his judgement.
For me, it’s always been about the money…..Jameis is not worth more than $22 mil and that is the transition tag amount……give him that and see what the market bears.

  16. Buczilla Says:

The old timers that were mentioned in the last paragraph played during an era where receivers were mugged down the field and quarterbacks were abused. The rules have been changed to greatly help quarterbacks so imho it is not a fair comparison. If Jameis played back in the day he may have thrown over 60 interceptions in a season and I bet that he would have had twice as many fumbles as well with how quarterbacks were routinely pummeled. Well never know of course and there is still a chance that Jameis can become more than the average at best quarterback he is now. Not holding my breath.

  17. Hodad Says:

Joe, you forgot to mention how Jameis can be a “spark” for the other team. Like when he throws a pick on his first pass of the game. That Jameis, he’s a real sparkler!

  18. Chris l Says:

Agree on the potential and talent but we need to stop the comparisons to those quarterbacks. The game is completely different. That’s like saying well Peyton barber doesn’t fumble as much as tiki barber did so he must be better.

  19. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … One thing JBF has never tackled (that I know of) is Byron Leftwich’s offensive attack. Everyone seems to be ASSUMING that it mirrors BA’s offensive philosophy, but MAYBE that’s a false assumption. And MAYBE that’s at least partially at fault for Jameis’ monumental increase in INTs last year.

BA has made a point (at least publicly) that it’s BL’s offense; that he calls the shots. Apparently he also does the play DESIGN besides the play CALLING. The fact that our TEs did so poorly last year (in terms of PRODUCTION) concerns me. The fact that our running game performed so poorly last year also concerns me (and not just because of OLine run blocking). Bucs relied much too heavily on the intermediate & deep throws, and far too little on the shorter stuff (to include using our RBs out of the backfield). I’m wondering IOW if the dramatic increase in INTs was more a by-product of play DESIGN and play CALLING … on BL’s part.

  20. SteveK Says:

#Turnover Blind Joe claims “vile hatred”. If by “vile hatred” you mean that Jameis turns it over more than he scores a TD, like last year.

It’s “vile hatred” to claim hate, when you like so many other FSU Honks think this is the ACC where Jameis can overcome 1-2 turnovers a game.

    Pathetic.

I effing hate losing, and I hate watching a QB give the ball away. Sure Joe, everything is fine.

You dug up three examples from a different era of football. What about the 50 years of and l history that state the team that wins the turnover margin wins 70% of the time?

FSU Honks have a “vile hatred” towards making. The playoffs without Jameis. Lol it hasn’t happened in 5 years. Cut bait.

  21. SteveK Says:

Buczilla, exactly! Jameis threw 49 intereceptable balls this year, so 60 INts in that era with his sloppy play is is a legit prediction. And it shows how horrible turnovers are

Get rid of the turnover king.

  22. Pa Privateer Says:

Tag him, and try to woo Gruden in a trade for Carr.

I can’t watch another 4th Quarter drive where I have anxiety out the butt every Time Winston drops back to pass.

I HOPE to god he changes the turnovers, but Joe tells me not to let HOPE be my basis for wins.

  23. Jean Lafitte Says:

Here comes the daily CLUELESS meltdown.

  25. Allbuccedup Says:

I have my doubts that Jameis will have a bust in Canton.

  26. Don_RyJo(e) Says:

I don’t think there is a single Bucs fan that would say that Jameis shouldn’t be playing quarterback in the NFL “period”. Jameis would be a steal at $20-mil a year and would certainly be a phenomenal backup.

The issue at this point is that Jameis hasn’t earned franchise-QB money. If Jameis’ camp refuses to play ball at a reasonable sub-franchise-QB-rate, then how can the Bucs (or any other team for that matter) possibly justify breaking open the piggy bank? He just hasn’t earned it.

Now Joe, you’ve quite convinced me that the Bucs should stick with Jameis in the short term (“I will tolerate you until I can replace you”), but please, for the love of G~d, stop trying to make us swallow the “the interceptions are no big deal” pill.

It ain’t gonna happen, Joe! Be real with us!

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Arians method of teaching is part of the reason for the picks. He wants his Quarterbacks to make a lot of mistakes in their first year with him.

More than likely, he warned Licht and the Glazers it would happen. He probably told them he would have it fixed by year two.

    • Winston was learning by watching Carson Palmer play in Arians system, as was publicly stated months ago.

    • During the season, Winston faced every conceivable type of defense and got it all on tape. This was an important gathering of information that Jameis can now study.

    • ‘No risk it, no bisquit’ Arians slogan is more than a cool line. It describes his teaching style. Take a lot of risks out of the gate, keep plugging away, then study it and fix it.

    • That’s why quarterbacks traditionally have down years in their first season with him.

    • The focus on the deep ball was not only to improve Jameis’ accuracy, which was previously a weakness. Notice Jameis only had 5 picks on the deep passes?

    • Normally, Winston hovers around 12-15 picks a season. The fact that doubled in his first year with Arians provided lots of ammo for his ‘detractors’ was good for their agenda, but when Jameis returns in 2020 and looks hugely improved along with leading the team into the playoffs, they will lose all of that ammo.

    • If I’m right and Arians did warn about the mistakes ahead oftime, then that means they always intended to re-sign Jameis. It’s just a matter of negotiations or tagging him. More than likely a tag.

  28. Mr. Reality Says:

This article is another sample of stupidity we see from one of the Joes.
“A lot of the angry anti-Jameis crowd will have you believe no other NFL team would want him. So therefore neither should the Bucs.”
Who thinks like that? Whether the “anti-Jameis” crowd wants him or not has nothing to do with whether someone else does. The issue is his market value is not in tag territory. The fact is, there is not a buzz anywhere around any team or other fanbase about “Yeah, we gotta go get Jameis.” The fact that there is not this hoopla to resign him here in Tampa, and the fact few to any want his picture on their brand for any product is also a pretty good indicator that the enthusiasm about Winston is minimal.

And, no one doubts Winston can make big plays. But also, no one has an valid argument when that point is justifiably countered with the fact he throws too many games away just on his own bad decisions…and is not worth a sixth year gamble. Certainly not at tag money or better. And suggesting he’s under center here in 2020 without the Glazers going after serious competition is another wild notion.

The reality is right now Winston is not coming back.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m guessing there was never any intention to put a tag on Shaq. That was all media guess-work during the slow news cycle. Shaq is the one player they made clear they would re-sign.

  30. JustBucNwin Says:

This 5k season is way over used. Times have changed and the rules have made it easier for reaching this milestone.

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Mr. Reality Says
“The reality is right now Winston is not coming back.”

I predict you are 100% wrong on that. Winston will begin the season as the Bucs starting QB, barring injury.

  32. Buc believer Says:

Joe you will NEVER convince the “experts” who post on this site of anything positive about Jameis. Even if Jameis goes to another team and leads them to multiple Super bowl wins it won’t be because of his ability it will be some other aspect of the team.

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    JustBucNwin Says
“This 5k season is way over used. Times have changed and the rules have made it easier for reaching this milestone. “Joe

If that is the case, what other QBs did it in 2019?

  34. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    America’s Grop……errrrrr, Quarterback won’t have a bust…but he IS a bust.

  35. Bob in Valrico Says:

    DR
I can’t speak to what’s wrong with Jameis. BA seemed to have to have given Jameis the green light to take chances with little emphasis on the cautionary
yellow light. While it might give him a a thorough chance to evaluate Jameis,
it didn’t help us win enough games. The only other thing I would add is that Jameis is overly confident in his arm to make some plays. Some plays he should never even attempt in IMO. An alarming thing I noticed that he has shown sloppy
footwork or throwing motion in his short game. Coupled with the fact he doesn’t always
read the defense well this may account for his 17 INT’s on 1-10 yard passes.

  36. stravenite Says:

Stats are great, use them to justify your narrative but the bottom line is the win/loss results, can’t fudge it !
JW is not capable of taking the franchise on his back and producing, gees he wants a perfect D / running game / kicker and then he will still commit TO’s, don’t believe the hope train, get rid asap !.

Have not heard anyone of substance support his franchise QB claim – he’s just ballin ! LMAO

  37. #1 Pick QB 2 Cent Brain Says:

Not sure if Joe knows what an outlier is…

Qbs who win with an absurd amount of picks is not the norm. A perfect storm has to occur for a team to be successful with one player sabotaging your chances every week

  38. Bird Says:

Im serious …lets get Ira pushing for it now …HOF for sure …his accomplishments are proven , undeniable and the list is long …they are :

    Uhhhmmmmm
    …..
    Wait for it …
    …..
    …..

So he threw for 5000 yards one season !

And there you have it bucs fans
    HOF baby or bust

And please give this HOF 30 mil a year …1 mil per int last year cause here in in fantasy land turnovers do not matter….and for some reason this player is NOT a part of the losing culture cause he works so dang hard … Seems simple to me…thanks
(But in the end jameis will be here for at least another year…its a bucs life)

  39. Bejesus-belt Says:

The named quarterbacks also threw all the interceptions in a time when defensive players could play defense. Jameis might of thrown 50 in that era, but probably 50 touchdowns also. So there is that.

  40. SmoothBayRider Says:

    2014 Attendance -59k

  41. George Rauh Says:

Palmer had a bad half of season and got better the second half throwing 14 tds and 8 ints. Winston actually got worse the second half of the season 17 tds 18 ints. He is trending the wrong way

  42. El Buco Realisto Says:

  44. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

I noticed that Mr. Fowler didn’t name one other team or team fan that is hoping to get Jameis Winston to come to their fair City. And the Tannehill reference is as a back-up QB.

  45. miken Says:

like all roller coaster, the jameiscoaster ends up where it started. Pick 6 to lose the opener, pick 6 to lose the finale.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Winston contract:

    • $22,000,000 per year base salary
    • $500,000 bonus for every game he has without a turnover
    • 4 years, 2 guaranteed
    • Making it potentially $32,000,000 per year to sooth his pride, but realistically closer to $25,000,000.

  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    SmoothBayRider Says:
“Bonzai might be 100% full of bologna.”

LOL. You wouldn’t be the first to suggest that.

  48. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    • Apply the Transition Tag to Jameis
    • Draft a QB
    • Sign Conklin
    • Re-sign Shaq, JPP, and Nassib
    • Draft a run stuffing DT

  49. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

Bonzai- I think a problem with your argument about BA warning owners and admin about Jamies having high numbers of interceptions is BA at the end of the season in an interview was admittedly frustrated with the turnovers and couldn’t explain them. I think a learning curve was expected but the curve never took place. As for the yardage, it’s come from behind yardage fling the ball every time. Desperation yardage doesn’t count. That’s why 5000 yards is meaningless unless you’re 10-6 or better.

  50. gotbbucs Says:

I just hope Winston’s HOF bust is molded off of the picture used for this article……that or the disturbing “eating a W” pose.

Evidently all it takes is a 30 pick season and you’re in.

  51. gotbbucs Says:

This, I’m assuming, is the same Joe that fought hard for Johny Manziel? This is the Joe that needs and intervention. The other Joe and Ira need to trick him into a room and take his key board away and give it to the summer intern.

  52. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Correction….many have said no other team would pay Jameis anything close to either of the franchise tag money….and that is the tough spot the Bucs and Jameis are in….I have said Jameis is in the small contract range as whatever Mariota gets…and that is a far cry from what Jameis is thinking….business is business and you don’t OVERPAY for questionable shelf life…when Jameis plays as an elite QB he should be paid as such…whatever contract the Bucs offer that should be reflected…especially next years money..20 million in 2020 would be a huge hometown bonus and even that gauls me…I say offer 2-3 million in 2020 more than Mariota signs for….THAT is Jameis’s MARKET !

Sorry but that’s the most delusional comment I’ve ever heard. You realize the coaches and how long hes been doing it right? You dont want turnovers and mistakes in a season you want to win, training camp, mini camps that is the time for mistakes. How about Winston throws picks because its his fault because he makes a lot of bad decisions. He’s given options for where to throw it and loves to throw it in traffic to guys that are covered a lot and throws picks to the middle linebackers too often, what kind of assbackwards coaching would teach turnovers?

Fyi we have a run stuffing dt, we need an interior pass rusher who can also play the run, those guys do exist

They’d be putting fans on stretchers at the end of most home games to get them to the exit gates!! Go for it Glazers!! Great idea!!

  56. D-Rome Says:

I get a laugh every time Joe references Hall of Famers who are now senior citizens when comparing them to Jay-Miss. George Blanda, really?

Compare Jay-Miss to his contemporaries and you’ll see that as an overall player he’s a below average, bottom-tier QB. It’s why there are other teams out there who want to bring him in to **compete** with their starter.

  57. Marine Buc Says:

Joe – do you have any examples that are not 50 years old? Blanda? Bradshaw? Tarkenton? LOL.

  58. Brandon Jeff Says:

    @ Bonzai 7:12am post.
Thank you! You quite eloquently spoke the same thoughts I was preparing to post. BA knows what he is doing. When he told Jameis to sling it and not worry about the consequences, it was by design. He knew it would be a roller coaster of a season. Their was too much for the entire team to learn to be competitive this year. This was a training year for the entire team. A trial by fire. Not only was Jameis allowed to work on his deep ball without consequences, but the inevitable picks put the defense into a sink or swim mode. They practiced against every possible scenario as Jameis put them in one bad situation after another. I believe the overall team’s growth was speeded up exponentially due to this process and we will see great improvement this season. An added bonus is all the picks. They will give us the ammunition we need to negotiate Jameis’ new contract and keep it at a reasonable level.

  59. JameisAlmighty! Says:

Can’t wait to bash the Jameis Bashers when the Bucs retain Famous Jameis Winston! Wooo this is going to be a day to look forward to.

  60. Allbuccedup Says:

  61. mark2001 Says:

I’m sure a number of owners would give him a chance…for backup money.

But that really isn’t the issue…is it?

  62. 2002WasALongTimeAgo Says:

Jameis will never be a franchise QB until he changes his mentality from “I’m gonna make me and my WR’s look good with gaudy stats” to “we need to win games, and that won’t happen if I turn the ball over in the first series, and then several other times a game”.

  63. BrianBucs Says:

If you look very hard (which apparently Joe does) you will find a few NFL suits and so called experts that will say that Winston may be attractive to other teams, But ask them if they would sign him to an expensive multiyear deal and their story changes.
And let’s not forget that Tannehill was signed to be a backup

  64. Buc believer Says:

@Morgus…. Your a SUPER original guy when you said America’s Grop….
I bet you are one of the people who mourned and called the basketball player who just recently passed away a fantastic human being and a roll model and a well respected member of the community even though he paid for silence from a women he allegedly had an “incident” with and that”incident” left marks on her neck. The hypocrisy of it all.

  65. Pewter power Says:

    @JameisAlmighty

Most of us already know he will be retained but donr want him too. It would be pointless to bash unless he’s signed to a long term deal regardless of its price tag. Otherwise we are all mostly in agreement to signing him to franchise or one year deal while we search for a better option to him than some over the hill quarterback. But if you want to look foolish bash away at us over a one year deal. No way they sign a long term deal without some type of Doug martin out clause after one year.

  66. Cobraboy Says:

Joe, Blanda and Tarkenton played when the rules favored the defense.

Different world since ATM was drafted.

  67. Cobraboy Says:

Winston may be “attractive” to some NFL teams…at a certain price point. I’d be surprised if teams are chomping at the bit to sign America’s Turnover Machine to a long-term mega guaranteed contract to be their franchise QB.

  68. Anonymous Says:

My go to when guys start comparing Jameis to players of different Era’s.

Joe Flacco’s stats are equal to Johnny Unitas during their times at Baltimore.

Unitas is not only HOF but one of the top 5 QB’s of all time.
Based upon that comparison theory, we should be seeking Joe Flacco here!

People please stop the comparisons to different Era’s.

Sad Joe has to go so far back to try to justify the INTs as ok. Different eras is a poor comparison
    —————

You don’t have to go back that far to see that Favre threw 29 in a season with the Packers on less attempts than Winston had this season. He was in his early 30’s. He threw 20 or more INTs six times in his career, didn’t throw more TDs than INTs six times, led the league in INTs three times, and only had six 4000 yard seasons (Jameis had three in five total seasons). He also had seven seasons of less than 80 rating and had a lifetime rating of 86.0…Jameis’s lifetime rating is 86.7. Favre also had a five year stretch of 101 INTs… Jameis has 88. Favre actually threw 122 in a six season stretch.

All I’m gonna say is my brother’s in-laws (the whole family) are from WI. The overwhelming majority of them are Packers fans. Ask anyone of them if they liked/wanted Favre as their QB for as long as they did. Maybe 3 of them would say “yes”. Almost the entire family was done with him because of his carelessness years before he left. Now you may say, that’s just one family. Well my brother’s in-laws family is over 200 people, apparently none of them heard of birth control.

Case in point, comparing him to Winston, I feel the same. While I’m not from nor have I ever lived in Florida, I don’t care who you compare him to. I’m done with him, while I will support the team no matter what, I will never support him.

    Current situation seems to be:

    Jameis wants multiyear megabuck deal
Bucs offer so far has been alot less
Both parties content at this point to let market forces determine the outcome

Seems that Bucs will either transition Jameis or sign another free agent ( please not Rivers or Dalton – today’s QB needs to be mobile) and then draft a QB.
In any case, Bucs need a capable backup QB.

In the meantime, Arian’s proclamation that it’s about the Defense is the way to go.

  72. Alanbucsfan Says:

Joe, you really should have a serious discussion with Ira the Sage, off the record so Ira can give you an unedited explanation, as to why NFL teams cannot win in today’s era with multiple turnovers.
Using stats from 50 years ago doesn’t work with ANY sport.

  73. Bruce Blahak Says:

This is getting insane. Defending this overrated, crappy QB with “STATS”! Blanda? Are you kidding me? From a totally different era. There is on way getting around this fact: HE DOES NOT MAKE GOOD DECISIONS ON THE FIELD!, OR OFF FOR THAT MATTER…

  74. TexBuc Says:

    Winston Derangement Syndrome…….LOL

  75. Craig Says:

There is nothing to be torn about. Jameis’ faults are myriad and he is really, really, really one dimensional.

Any thing he improves causes something else to drop back a notch. This season he finally got some accuracy in his longer passes and forgot how to throw short passes.

That is scary, not for the other team, but for his own team.

    +++++++++++++

That reminds me of a classic episode of “Married With Children” where Kelly has to learn all these facts to compete on some sort of game show but then she forgets super basic life stuff like how to open doors and whatnot. They have a montage with new facts going in one ear and old facts coming out the other. That was some funny stuff, such a great show!

I cant wait until this decision is made so we get to stop hearing “america’s joes” posts calling out anyone as idiots who don’t see the value in Jameis. Of course he does love to keep up with past players as well. I am tired of hearing about Kwon too. Misses a ton of tackles, great energy, overpaid, injured, missed tackle in SB. I don’t care what he has to say!!!! He got to the SB on a better team, not because he went there!!

I wonder how long it took for Joe to stop taking about Manziel? Maybe you should recruit him to the Vipers. Then you can get your entertainment fix and focus on players or performances that will have more effect on our win loss column.

And stop going back to 1926. You wouldn’t even recognize that game where a corner could mug a receiver before the ball was in the air. This game wasn’t what it was 15 years ago much less 100.

  78. Joe D Says:

Come on Joe, you know damn well that all today guys you named played in the 70’s and before… The rules were completely different, no 5 yard contact rules, the DBs could ride the WRs up and down the field all day, not even talking about the rules in place now to protect the QB in the pocket, that make them ‘comfortable’ as they throw as a result… Tell me how impressive are Jameis’ “Big Numbers” when you compare it to Norm Van Brocklin… He threw for 554 yards in a game in 1951, never had more than 21 picks in a season… Your statistics are hog wash and out of context… Just as much as me bringing up Norm Van Brocklin in 2020… Get a grip with reality, point blank, you have to protect the football to win games… Is Jameis talented, yes! But he’s 28 -42 as a starting QB, that’s losing 60% of the games he’s started, in 5 years he’s had 11 game winning drives and only 7 4th quarter comebacks, and he also has a 4 game suspension for sexual abusing a woman, and his response is ‘I’ve quit drinking since then…’

For all those who talking that JW is nothing he so bad but yall cant play ball at all then I see were the other people say well joe you talking about .QB who was not what but they threw Int the number is 42 and so on but let’s face the truth they were white super stars yes Terry was my best and still is to me because I am and will be a steeler fan to the end our world still like to put people down and not lift them up still the bucs needs some good Running backs and line to help the team again it’s only 25% of JW fault and minus the backfield and Offense of line and Secondary that need help and if the NFL dont really want him well we as black men’s with money and former NFL player need to buy a team and get him and those no matter what color they are give a chance and hope but our people on this earth just like putting people down and not helping or want better and remember every starting qb who left the bucs became better players except Josh Freeman because his drug habits so people stop bitching let’s wish the bucs well and get a Tony Dungy team back the one that won the super bowl not no jhon gurden team it was Tony who built that superbowl Team

Tragedy, all I can say is stay in school! Or if you somehow finished school (which would be shocking), please go back and bone up on your English skills. Seriously people, can we just take 30 seconds and proofread what we’ve said before posting? How do you expect anyone to take you seriously if you cannot even bother taking yourself seriously enough to put effort into something that requires very little effort.

Even though I can kind of follow your train of thought, it just makes me sad to see how far America’s education system has fallen.

  81. donuts Says:

George Blanda????? While it is true, he threw 42 picks the one BIG omission of fact was the team was 11-3 that year (1962). Keep in mind, this happened before the modern passing offenses were in full swing and the Oilers had the #1` DEF. After that magical 11 win season, he never won more than 6 games in a year for the rest of his career. Winston would have to be Blanda in reverse. Blanda also made 4 pro bowls. Super Bowl wasnt invented yet to give you an idea about how far back in the stat logs Joe had to go to find a comparison for Winston’s poor play. Bradshaw and Tarkenton in their high INTs years both had success for one reason>> the DEFENSE!

This 5k season is way over used. Times have changed and the rules have made it easier for reaching this milestone.

EXCEPT the only QB to do it is Jameis

  83. Tye Says:

Looking around the web on other fan sites every couple days just curious to see is there any out there of the other 31 teams that desire JW…

Nope!.. still haven’t found even 1…
Many batting around Carr, Mariota, Bridgewater….
Not yet found any wanting JW even though he is suppose to be a ‘good qb’ that are SO hard to find!

  84. Fb Moderated! Says:

The, I have found a couple, but all as a backup, or for competition, which would be 7 mill at most and likely leases. Which is a far cry from the 30 America’s joe thinks Winston deserves

  85. Tvan101 Says:

I love how this Joe has no problem insulting his fans because they disagree with him despite overwhelming evidence. Cmon Joe dont be an a** and act like a lot of his yards come from the fact that he is the one that put the team behind in the first place.

As bucs fans are naturally masochistic, we seek out this abuse without consideration of the harm it does to others. Had a real BUCSLIFE!

    Defense Rules

I would love to have Derek Carr.  We could win championships with him.  I don’t expect to get him either.

I expect Jameis Winston be back under center in 2020.  Blaine Gabbert will be his backup.

Will the Bucs draft a QB?  I don’t know.

I think Bruce Arians was testing JW and trying to get him to break a lifelong or career long mindset.  I think he was disappointed at the end of the season.  He pegged his last chance for a Super Bowl to JW when he chose to come to us.  He will see it through this year.

BA may still have some of his “quarterback whisperer” magic up his sleeve.  If so, JW will finally emerge and we will vie for championships starting this season.

    In BA I trust!

  88. mark2001 Says:

Matt…I’ve been spending months each year in Wisconsin more than thirty years. And no…I heard no one talk about getting rid of Favre…in fact, they weren’t sure about Rodgers until a couple years after he was the starter.

And I still go there…and they don’t think much of Jameis. Not that it means alot. But just to clear up that issue. Just compare the awards of both guys in the league…no comparison.

  89. Sizzler Says:

    A LOMBARDI TROPHY

There. Now print this and sign Jameis. You NOW have a quarterback that is good on paper AND (on paper) you have A LOMBARDI TROPHY.
