“I’m Putting A Bunch Of Guys On Their Tail”

February 27th, 2020

Met with Bruce Arians.

If you call LSU defensive end/outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson just a speed guy, you better brace yourself for his response.

The LSU stud was speaking at the combine this morning at the Indiana Convention Center in frosty downtown Indianapolis and couldn’t believe when a reporter told him there was a belief by some that Chaisson is just a “speed guy.”

“If you watch tape, [you will see] I’m putting a bunch of guys on their tail,” Chaisson said chuckling in disbelief. “If guys say I just have speed, they obviously don’t watch film. I am definitely more than a one-dimensional player. I have speed, power, finesse.

“Whatever you want, I’ve got.”

One thing Chaisson certainly has is confidence.

“I will be honest: I am actually the most valuable player in the draft,” Chaisson said. “We all know that. When you want to hire somebody, do you want to hire someone that speaks one language or someone that speaks three languages?

“I speak three languages. I do pass rush. I can drop into coverage and cover anybody you want me to cover. And I play the run. No offensive lineman has ever just moved me off the ball. I feel that’s what makes me more valuable than anybody in this draft.”

Chaisson admitted he would be honored to reunite with his former teammate, Bucs middle linebacker Devin White.

“Every day that we speak, it is a new goal that he gives me,” Chaisson said of his relationship with White. “I aim to achieve it.”

And it seems the Bucs might just see that happen. Chaisson mentioned he met with Bucs head coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

Now Joe doesn’t start panting when he hears a prospect has met with the Bucs. Why? Because every team meets with every player at the combine, even if it is just a lowly scout. If a team did not meet with a player, now that would be news.

But for Joe, it’s just a hunch that Arians is not going to waste his time with some scrub he has no interest in drafting. So Arians meeting with Chaisson is significant.

And Chaisson said he got good vibes from Bucs assistants.

“I love the coaching staff,” Chaisson said of the Bucs. “I feel like everybody has a positive energy around the facility. I got great feedback. There was a lot of coaching going on in there. There were a lot of things I learned in that meeting. I am grateful for it and hope to get to talk to them more.”

Chiasson, while full of confidence, said on a scale of 1-10 he is a 3 in terms of untapped talent and is hoping a quality coaching staff will select him in the draft.

“There is so much more I can get better in, man,” Chiasson said. “I got this far with raw talent. I feel there is no ceiling to my game.”

I do not know this player but you say LSU and LB and I want him.

  2. Robert Says:

““I will be honest: I am actually the most valuable player in the draft,”

next- confidence w/o humility = JW

    HARD PASS

  3. StonedBuc Says:

This guy or kinlaw would be homeruns in our defense!

  4. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lot of chatter lately that he might be the Bucs pick. I’ve heard he is kind of raw and only came up a decent number of sacks in his last 4-5 games with LSU. I like his swagger. Might be the right pick.

  5. NOLES Says:

Not if he backs it up Robert… let’s wait and see before we give him
    That moniker…

    He seems pretty legit

  6. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Robert, you need to get on meds to control your Winston Derangement Syndrome! Jameis is confident but has always been humble too.

  7. The Man Says:

How many jersey numbers did this kid wear?
    Draft him!

  8. catcard202 Says:

Don’t take this the wrong way…but I’d be flippin pissed at taking Edge #14 in 2020….After passing on J.Allen in 2019.

    45 played admirably down the stretch in 2019 & might end-up being a Stud & all…but I’m still “bum-sore” over taking MLB @ 5 in 2019…to potentially see Edge @ 14 in 2020.

J.Allen in 2019 was better than Chase Young in 2020…& without the baggage.

  9. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

There is nothing wrong with the swagger. I like it, and he has earned it. Defenses with swagger can be pretty bad ass in this league.

We certainly have had some pretty good luck with LSU. — It would be cool to see Chiasson and Devin White roaming the field together for the BUCS for years to come.

  10. You look at my numbers, I’m ballin Says:

    Sign me the F up.

Getting JPP back and playing a dominating game is far from a guarantee.

  11. Robert Says:

how does this have to do with JW.

it has to do with one statement, which I’ll admit, you can’t base everything on one statement.

    I took my meds.

  12. Tampabuscsbro Says:

The thing is that whole edge rushing issue last year solved itself. Plus devin White is a stud.

  13. Red86 Says:

It make sense if he was the pick. He can take Nassib place due to coverage skill as an olb. Plus, he’s quick. He made key plays for my LSU Tigers. If only we get a right tackle and running back with this draft.

  14. Etzel Says:

“Robert” wants all black men to kneel and beg for a chance to play. How dare they show any confidence in their abilities. How dare they think they are the best. Go blow JJ Watt, loser.

  15. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Catcard I usually agree with what you say but no way J. Allen is on the same level of prospect as Chase Young. Young is a better prospect than Clowney was and better than the Bosas.
I still am not sold on Chaisson, it would come down to how willing he is to work on his craft because he isn’t there yet. He has the traits but does he have the grit?
I’m way higher on taking an OT or Kinlaw at 14 than this dude.

  16. stpetebucsfan Says:

College football largely bores me because of the lack of competition. I’ll catch a few rivalry games and playoffs.

What I do find interesting is how the power shifts at the very top of the CFA. For a long time Nick Saban and Urban Meyer divvied up the elite talent with the occasional interloper like Jimbo…but largely it was Saban and Urban. The along comes Dabo and the Clemson Tigers are the dominant team.

But now it’s L S freaking U!!! Gotta give it up for them. I have no particular connection other than respect for their success! They are now the school that gets the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream of elite college football players. If a guy stars at LSU chances are he’s going to also play as well in the NFL.

I’m not really sure how LSU gets this elite level talent year in and year out. I think Mullen may be about to restore Florida’s challenge to go along with Alabama and Georgia…staying on top in the SEC is not easy.

  17. JimmyJack Says:

Dion Sander and Warren Sapp didn’t know the meaning of the word humility. Just 2 examples for ya.

  18. chris L Says:

im sold. get this man a new bucs jersey!

  19. Robert Says:

@jimmyjack….actually those guys and moss are what came to mind after I posted that.

    @etzel…………..that card is played out.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We could do a whole lot worse than this guy…….would love to see him as a Buc……LSU defense……good resume.

The thing is that whole edge rushing issue last year solved itself. Plus devin White is a stud.

But would the FO be looking to drop $13M + to keep JPP in 2020 -or having to use the 2020 1st Rd pick to find his replacement (#14) had they taken Allen in 2019???

I think not…JPP’s replacement would already be in the roster & the added cap room would have went a LONG WAY in allowing the FO to sign TEN RT Conklin in FA, solving the most glaring team need – w/o having eating into the Cap Space needed to Keep Suh / Shaq / Nassib – which is the not the case now. Can’t keep Suh / Shaq / Nassib & JPP…& go get Conklin in FA, w/o cutting ties w/ one of them or JW3!

  22. PSL Bob Says:

I’ve been preaching safety at #14, but love the confidence of this kid. Seems that D. White sees something in him (other than past team mate) to take the time to coach him up. Given JPP’s age, wouldn’t be a bad pick, although I think I’d still go with Delpit at #14.

  23. Big O Says:

Deffense , 1st Rd. I seriously doubt he’s going to be available still at 14

  24. Big O Says:

The first round should definitely be a defensive pick: Safety and or Edge in that order.

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Catcard……..Your not accounting for everything in that scenario. Your only accounting for the specifics that fit your agenda.

For starters you don’t know how free agency pans out in your scenario. Let JPP go and they might just want a established vet. They might not bring in Barrett in your fantasy.

And oops you just up and forgot you gotta replace D.White. So I am taking over 15 million away from you so I can pay Mosley thanks……Or we can bring back Kwon but them I’m taking two wins away from you cause I can.

Well with them two extra losses now we move up 8 draft slots. Congrats you win the GM candyland game.

  26. Steven007 Says:

Getting a Danielle Hunter vibe from him. The difference is Hunter was a third-round pick. I like this kid but would prefer kinlaw at this point

  27. Marine Buc Says:

Unless we sign Conklin, Williams or Bulaga in FA the pick will be a RT.

  28. Marine Buc Says:

    *the first pick.

  29. Tval Says:

Ray Lewis sure was humble. Lmao!!!
And lsu was DUE. Clemson, Bama, and OSU have out recruited them for the last 10 years..and still will. They just won all the titles and lost more talent early…just like Lsu after this season.

  30. Buc80 Says:

Does LSU have a good kicker we could draft?

We know Licht loves to draft kickers

  31. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Reeeeally like this guy as our pick!! Him and Devin played together and those guys love football, love physicality and are WINNERS!!! Those 2 can change the whole culture of a defense because they will not take losing as an option!! Physical talent, ability to mold him and a 10% higher will to win than most players in the NFL!! Glad to see the bucs know what to look for to create a winning team!!!

  32. WhatTheBuc Says:

If you’re drafting this guy you are betting on potential because he did very little in college. This guy had 9.5 sacks over his entire college career. Not really putting guys on their tail.

  33. Matt Says:

I’m not sold, I see him as a Barkevious Mingo type. He may go run 4.55 or better at the combine and shoot up into the top 10 anyways. Not enough production in college for us to take a flyer when we need offensive line so bad.

Look if Kinlaw or Brown are there by some miracle, you grab him. I highly doubt they are. If they’re not and one of the top 4 tackles are there, grab him. If none of the above is there and you get calls from someone in the 20s wanting to give us next year’s 1st round pick to move up for a QB, you absolutely take that.

I’d rather us get extra picks and grab a higher floor solid offensive linemen than get lucky on this guy. Quite honestly, anyone with a couple moves and some speed can rush in this defense with VV and TB coaching him up lol

  34. BigHog Says:

If I had to guess (and this is not an highly educated guess) I would bet most LB’s have very little “humility” on game day because at the end of the day it don’t win games!!!! “Mr. 5,000 for President” …..I’m sure some of you would say they have the same kind of humility!!!!….grabbing it vs groping it (allegedly)!!!!

  35. catcard202 Says:

    JimmyJack,

We can play out the whole 2019 “Draft Day Movie” scenario…I would have taken Allen @ #5 / Lock @ # 39 & ALA MLB Mack Wilson in the 5th instead of a K. (Just as I’ve stated before)

Armchair GM is my thing… 🙂
I roll the dice on troubled talent, when it’s pennys on the dollar…& take Premium positions in the top 2 rounds…(QB / EDGE / WR / CB / OT). Best Available in the middle rounds & “Needs” Day 3.

Would have jump through hoops to get Kareem Hunt (when he was on the street for minimal coin/risk & would have claimed MLB Foster – after his Tampa arrest & subsequent release from SF…buying low on troubled talent / at low risk…Rolling the dice on Talent… (If any FO should have known that Foster’s situation was a BS charge, it should have been the TB Bucs.)

I think the team missed a “Second Chances / Bucs Mentoring Bucs” marketing opportunity…

Had JW3 still went 33/30 …Lock would be the in-house Plan B – Cost Controlled & a yr into the system.

When JPP went down w/ his neck. Allen would have been there to pick up the slack & we would not be in situation where we need JPP back @ at the coin he will command.

Mack Wilson looked pretty damn good in CLE as Rook too…So, 45 not being there is a wash.

I see no down side in losing a promising Slot-Corner for a Young Gunslinger QB & same coin/pick….but not having JW3 questions in the picture in 2020 saves another $26+M in 2020 cap space, opening new doors of opportunity in FA / extending our own (Godwin – Right now it looks like it is going to be hard to extend him & keep everyone else!)

W & L w/ JW3 as QB1 in 2019 would still likely lead to a Top15 pick in 2020, but Allen would be in house as a 10sack Rookie. MLB would have been covered @ less coin than 45 alone. The Future QB1 would be Locked in @ 2nd Round money & the RB room would have had 1 more problem solved than it does now.

  36. SappAttack Says:

Makes a ton of sense if JPP walks and that sounds to be 50/50 from what I have read thus far. Man, the offseason sure is interesting!

  37. Bird Says:

People close to brady really saying he Is moving on
    On nfl and espn
Now that could be ploy for new england to pay up more money

But im sure he is tired of hearing his success has been as a result of the system /belicheat

Not saying He is coming here but i could see titans Who are close To a title
Good running game / tough defense / played with the coach
And titans would offer to go receiver and receiver in 1st 2 rounds of draft ?
    Get yah popcorn

  38. Buczilla Says:

I love the idea of us taking a pass rusher in the first round, but I’d stay the hell away from this dude until at least the 3rd round. 9.5 sacks in 3 years is not impressive even though he was injured for most of 2018. Better players with talent AND production will be there for us at 14.

  39. JimmyJack Says:

Dang catcard that’s quite the rabbit hole you are digging with that one. Which, I suppose, is part of the fun of it anyways.

I do get into that stuff. None of it seems very realistic to me. For example if you are gonna take D.White off the team you gotta replace him with a high investment MLB. I would figure aiming for a elite player at that position was key for Bowles so if your his GM you can throw a 5th rounder at him. Gotta give him what he needs. But I guess if it’s all just fantasy you can just pretend Bowles is not your DC.

Or same with JPP. Maybe there would be some flexibility there but your coach’s might require a veteran presence at that position. Can also remember back to Bruce saying he wanted JPP when he was in Arizona so it might not be very realistic to throw him to the curb.

Your plan at QB might be OK too but I highly doubt it would match what Bruce is looking for. He came here to win quickly. I’m betting he wants a pro experienced QB.

I get the fun in it but none of it comes close to matching any of the moves we actually made. Cool thoughts but very much fantasy.

  40. SB Says:

All of you that don’t like his confidence I have words from Kid Rock for you.
“It ain’t bragging mother fcker if you back it up”

  41. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    A.J. Epenesa

  42. SB Says:

I’m not really sure how LSU gets this elite level talent year in and year out. I think Mullen may be about to restore Florida’s challenge to go along with Alabama and Georgia…staying on top in the SEC is not easy.

    You are correct SPBF!

  43. WhatTheBuc Says:

Agree with Matt and Buckzilla. If he didn’t get those 4 sacks in his last 4 games, he would have a grand total of 5 sacks in his whole career

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Chaisson said that earlier in the week too.

So I’m here watching the combine…is it me or does Herbert look like a ,pvie star Qb? lol

  45. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @catcard202

Anyone can play out a draft AFTER it happens and a season of play has passed.

  46. MadMax Says:

Need an article on Marlon Davidson…..thats the best value de/dt, probably an early 2nd rounder. i dont know about Chaisson early….2nd rd maybe.

  47. catcard202 Says:

You can look up my draft night comments….

  48. MadMax Says:

Crap, Chase Claypool is going in the 2nd after his 40 and combine….oh well, was hoping to get him with our 4th….wr/te prospect…good for him though.

My boy Anthony Gordon is looking good. Could still get him in the 4th!

  49. Buczilla Says:

    @Mad Max

I agree, that kid just made himself a lot more money.

  50. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    MadMax

Might be a wise play to draft Air Gordon in the 3rd

  51. MadMax Says:

Yep, Luv, he’s gonna move up…..was 5th or undrafted just last week.

I love watching these guys so early, way before anyone is talking about them….then they start climbing up the charts. I missed my calling in life…shouldve been an nfl scout i guess lol. Look at Becton, possibly a top 5 pick now….Love a top 10….Simmons and Brown top 8.

  52. MadMax Says:

    Dugger a 2nd

  53. Mr 5000 Says:

    Mr 5000 approves this pick

  54. The Coroner Says:

Love to see him in the new Bucs’ Super Bowl-like jersey!
Speed kills. His spin move is going to leave his opponent dizzy. Relentless!

  55. TOM Says:

First & foremost a OT should be the first pick & IMO safety is not a high priority.
