More chatter about one of Arians’ former stars

Yes, Joe firmly believes Bucco Bruce Arians is very interested in bringing his former Arizona star running back, David Johnson, to Tampa Bay.

If Arians wanted unemployed Andre Ellington, don’t you think he’d crave Johnson even more?

Despite what the Bucs say publicly, Arians knows he had a sad, sad rushing attack this season. And Joe expects the Bucs to pounce on Johnson when the Cardinals decide to cut him rather than pay him the roughly $11 million due him in 2020.

Joe brings this up today because former Arians QB Carson Palmer was talking about Johnson on 98.7 FM radio in Arizona on Friday.

“I am a 100% believer. I think he can get those numbers back,” Palmer said. “This system might not be built for him and Bruce’s system might’ve been perfect for him.

…“When you think back to what we would do with Bruce’s system with Dave, I mean he was so good about the inside zone plays,” Palmer said. “He was so good when you’d give him a sweep or a toss and he’d get the edge and stick his foot in the ground and get upfield. What separated him was what he could do in the passing game. Bruce would find ways to get him matched up on middle linebackers and outside linebackers.”

Johnson turns 29 in December, but Joe likes that Johnson doesn’t have a ton of mileage on his legs. He was drafted in 2015, and he lost all but one game of the 2017 season with a wrist injury, though he did have 1,000 touches in college.

Joe’s not sure what to make of Johnson after this season and a solid but not spectacular 2018, but Joe’s got a very strong hunch Johnson would be better than Peyton Barber.

Barber earned $2.1 million this season. Perhaps Johnson would play on a one-year deal for $3 million plus incentives?

Will need to renegotiate. Don’t pick him up off of waivers.

I have a really good feeling this team comes back with minimal changes, add D.J., add RT thru draft or FA and add a safety (Jamal Adams), resign most FAs (Barrett, Suh, Perriman, Minter, Nassib and JPP), no matter the QB, we are playoff bound

  3. rrsrq Says:

If he is cut, no need to renegotiate, DJ will be a FA

  4. WyomingDude Says:

Ultimately, sure I like the fit, but another club would offer more than that, inclusive of incentives. A 2 year, $5.25 million per deal with another $2.5 in incentives each year, would secure his services. Especially in a state with no income tax. With his intrenched knowledge of BA’s system, height, build, pass catching prowess, all are worth a $1 million premium annually. Tired of the sloppy hacks around here constantly.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

David Johnson would be an excellent choice since he can catch the ball. Even if he’s no longer a ever down back (and who knows, maybe he is), he can be that 3rd down back we’ve been missing since Charles Sims was here and healthy – and that’s worse case I think.

Obviously he’d have to prove he’s actually healthy, but if so, then it’s a no-brainer to pick him up on a 1-year prove it deal with a lot of incentives.

  6. JimmyJack Says:

Agreed with Rod Munch on this one. Catching balls out of the backfield is a missing dynamic here. Based on David Johnson’s receiving totals when Bruce was in Arizona it would be something they would utilize in the offense(unlike TEs).

It would also stretch the defense which should open more holes between the tackles for handoffs. Certainly could assume adding a receiver who can catch might be what they are looking for this off-season. Maybe not that North/South runner like many are saying.

  7. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

if the bucs had a competent gm; maybe he drafts derrick henry & not noah spence or dalvin cook not oj and on and on

  8. Joe in Michigan Says:

I read somewhere that Arizona would have such a cap hit by releasing him that they’d either trade him or keep him. I suppose we could trade something for him and have him take a drastic pay cut.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs historically keep 4 RBs, one of whom is often the return man. In 2019 that was TJ Logan, who by the way did a very good job IMO. RoJo is going into his 3rd year & Dare is also on the roster. That’s it. (Barber’s a UFA).

RoJo’s coming along, but he’s NOT a #1 back at this point in his career. Not the type to consistently pound it between the tackles, and is only a fair blocker. Good outside though & has ‘explosion’. He actually gained over 1,000 yards on the season … 724 yards rushing (4.2 YPR) and 309 yards catching (10.0 YPC).

Dare had the most targets out of the backfield (46) & the most catches (35), but only 11 rushing attempts in 16 games (1.1 YPR). Two words come to mind: Bye Bye.

Barber was OK … 470 yards rushing (3.1 YPR) & 115 yards catching (7.2 YPC) … but nothing to brag about. At the right price ($1 mil?) he might be OK as our 3rd RB (he blocks well), but is definitely not a lead dog.

So IF we re-signed Barber as a #3, that’d leave us with RoJo as a #2, Barber as a #3, and Logan as a #4 (return man). Personally I’d try to complement RoJo with a BEAST, someone who can gain 4-5 yards CONSISTENTLY through the middle, but who also can catch AND block. There are a number of good RBs in this year’s draft who could turn out to be BEASTS. No need to use a 1st Round pick on one; but the good ones probably won’t last until the 3rd Round either. My personal preference: Najee Harris … 6’2″, 230 lbs, 4.53 in the 40, projected to go Rounds 2-4. Kid’s a BEAST.

  10. KenfromCanada Says:

Love this idea. Everyone is worried about re-signing all the players. How about having faith Arians/Licht find some more FA’s to get on 1 yr prove it deals like last offseason. Better IMO than overpaying our own role players

Dang gum……If you’re old school you gotta be loving what this Titans team has to offer.

Much tougher test for the Chiefs then I thought. If the Titans can clamp down in the red zone the Chiefs Don’t stand a chance. Mahommes will likely have to be outstanding to pull this on off. Talk about pressure!!

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

Agree JJ but Mahomes already has them back within 3.

Just imagine how many Brink’s trucks KC will back up to the Mahomes household.

What has surprised me is how much the Titans used Tannehill instead of simply pounding it with D.H.

  15. gotbbucs Says:

David was kept in bubble wrap during the season and barely practiced in college because he got knicked up too easily. I like David, nice guy, his wife taught my kids swimming lessons, but I don’t know if I would put a lot of faith in him getting back to where he was a few years ago. I also think he would probably try to sign with someone closer to home like maybe Kansas City.

I read somewhere that Arizona would have such a cap hit by releasing him that they’d either trade him or keep him.”

Oh wow, according to Overthecap, they’d have $18m in dead cap by cutting him – BUT, he’s owed $14m. So basically it’s a $4m cap hit. Considering they basically benched him down the strech, even at $4m, I can’t really see them keeping him around.

I doubt a trade is doable as he’d be unlikely to take a very low salary when he can just test the market.

  20. geno711 Says:

I see no way this happens. Why

    @Rod
It is not a 4 million cap hit. It is a 16 or 18 million dollar cap hit. Why would Arizona take a 16 to 18 million cap hit instead of keeping him? Spotrac has it at 16.2 million in dead cap.

According to Spotrac they have already guaranteed him 5.1 million of the 2020 salary when he was on the roster TO START last year.

So if they cut him before March 15, 2020 then they still pay him the 5.1 million plus take the 16 to 18 million hit. Or they can pay him the remaining of the difference of the salary and keep him next year.

Playing into the equation is that Drake is a free agent and his value skyrocketed at the end of last season.

If I am the Buc’s I at least look at Drake as compared to David Johnson.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Yes St Pete. Chiefs ahead right now. And it took 2 amazing plays from Mahommes to score from the red zone(technically just outside).

I’m guessing he will have to do it two more times to seal victory. Doesn’t look like the Chiefs defense can make a huge impact in the game. And it Don’t look like the Titans are going to give up big spash plays & they will likely not give up another cheap TD like they did on that sweep play to Hill.

Should be a good second halve.

  22. geno711 Says:

    Kansas City v. Tennessee.
Lots of ways to win in this league.
Those teams doing it different ways.
We just have to figure out a Buc’s way.

Tennessee not in the playoffs if they lost to Buc’s — or –
the week before Tennessee beat San Diego who fumbled on the 1 yard line at the end of the game. But they did not beat themselves in either of those games so their game manager has worked well for them THIS season.

I see no way this happens. Why

    @Rod
It is not a 4 million cap hit. ”

OK, yeah I was doing a quick look at OTC and they have it as.

If you cut him, it’s 18m in dead money.
If you keep him, you have to pay him $14m.
    So 18-14 = 4.

Sounds like Sportrec in this case has a more detailed breakdown – but in any case I only quickly looked over it.

As for Drake – no thanks. I know he had a nice ending to the year, but he has years of tapes in Miami where he had a very Perriman like career, of looking good for a few games and then disappearing. Drake would be expensive and I don’t for a moment believe he’s suddenly going to become a top back over 16-games. I could be wrong, but you’d be paying him top dollar on a career year, which was really only half a year. Rojo was fine last year and ended the year strong – the Bucs just need a true 3rd down back, someone who can catch and block, and they’re set.

  24. JimmyJack Says:

Ouch Geno. That certainly throws a wrench into the tires of the David Johnson discussion.

Makes you wonder why people are saying he might be avialable. I’ve heard more then just Joe speculate that idea.

Maybe their are finicial options we aren’t aware of?

  25. Rod Munch Says:

Mahomes has all day to sit back there and throw the ball on pretty much every single play. Man, give Mike Glennon that type of time and even he would be able to put up 250 yards a game.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Oh and thanks for posting the full cap info Geno, that was very helpful.

  27. WyomingDude Says:

So much for taking @Joe at his word in the figures of the article as proposed by @Joe. One would assume the accurate research was done on DJ’s contract before penning the article. Apparently, based on other commenters, that wasn’t the case. Silly really.

  28. Defense Rules Says:

Altered Ego … “Wow !…is it just ndog or does Patrick Mahomes remind you of Jameis”.

Uhhh, not hardly. Mahomes is deadly accurate most of the time & throws as close to zero INTs as you can get. Plus he’s almost impossible to contain. What part of that describes Jameis?

  29. JimmyJack Says:

Yes not much pressure on Mahommes. Looks like Titans are selling out to not let the Chiefs beat them over the top.

That’s why I think the key for the Titans is winning with redzone defense. So far Mahommes is beating them. Also helped out with the perfect playcall by Reid on the first TD.

  30. geno711 Says:

I guess Arizona could still cut David Johnson.
That would just be about the Arizona owner saving himself money – right.
Arizona would be much worse off in the cap. They would take a bad cap hit, they would have to sign a different running back and they would still be paying Johnson 5.1 million.

However, say they sign another running back for 2 million. They pay that other running back 2 million and Johnson 5.1 million and the owner actually personally saves about 7 million. So might still be done.

It would just be a horrible utilization of the CAP for Arizona and if I am an Arizona fan would question that owner.

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’ve kept a running total on the FAs that Joe has trotted out for us to acquire…..it’s just a tad short of $675 million dollars…….

  32. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – Yeah, a classic bend don’t break defense. Have to keep them out of the endzone for that to work, but they’ve mostly limited the big plays so far and they’re still in the game.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

geno711 – If they Cards did trade him, say to the Bucs for a 6th, and the Bucs paid say $4m, what are the Cards on the hook for then?

  34. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah Rod. Not working so well with Mahommes on the other side finding ways to break them. Small reminder on the Mike Smith defense that was designed to hold up in the red zone and we couldn’t even do that well.

At least here with the Titans I will guess will play smarter and now find ways to generate pressure or take some chances in coverage to try to get back into this game with a big defensive play.

Bigger problem is Tannehill has to also take a few chances now & that’s not their game.

  35. Joe in Michigan Says:

The guy I’d like to see the Bucs sign, Dennis Kelly (Titans backup Tackle, it’s been said that he played well when Jack Conklin was hurt), caught a TD pass today. Probably get him for fairly cheap. Draft a OL in the middle rounds.

  36. Buc believer Says:

Joe how are you so “sure” his running attack sucks? He thought it was fine before the season began and look what happened.

  37. JimmyJack Says:

And now any of y’all watching that drooled over the Titans runblocking(which is elite) can now look and see firsthand how they are far from perfect and have their own set of weaknesses.

Sure they looked great when they got up 2 scores last week. But you put them down 2 scores, force them to throw and let the DL go full tilt passrusher……….suddenly Tennessee’s line cannot hold up and this game is basically over. 11 minutes left and the Titans have almost no chance.

So remember this when y’all go spouting off how running is what wins in the playoffs……..I have always said that you gotta be able to win in different ways in the NFL. Unfortunately for Tennessee playing from behind and leaning on the passing game is something they just can’t do……and their defense met their match today too…….That equals RIP Titans. Not enough ways to win.

  38. JimmyJack Says:

Awesome run though for the Titans. They did give the Chiefs a tough game. And know knows maybe their D can find a way to make a impact t play.

Kansas Cities special teams has been particularly awful this postseason. Some coach is gonna have two weeks to try and take advantage of that.

I do realize the Longshot bets are the biggest sucker bets in the Super Bowls but betting on a Special Teams TD might not be a horrible play even with the sucker garbage odds you’ll get.

Tannehill did what every Winston hater wants Winston to do on 4th down. Don’t try to make a play, down by 2 scores with under 2 mins left, nope, just take the sack and don’t turn it over, because you can’t win if you throw INTs (never mind taking the sack is turning the ball over on downs). LOL!

You’re literally the only person I’ve ever heard that likes these abortions – I just can’t see how anyone would think they’re not terrible. The Bucs need to go back to their roots, to the orange and white. The current awful uniforms are just meaningless. They’re not Bucs colors like the pewter we had before, it’s nothing to do with Florida, like the orange, it’s just a generic Madden expansion team uniform set with a God awful font.

But again, the same people that made this current trash would make any new trash, and Nike is more worried about being SJW’s than doing their job. So at this point the only thing we can hope for is that Reebok or Adidas or even Under Armour get the NFL gig here real soon. I’m not sure what the contract status is, but I hope it’s up.

Oh and the Falcons have announced new uniforms as well – so I’d fully expect them to be awful, probably a huge oversized bird on the helmet and a bunch of black with a poorly done red accent. We shall see.

  65. Adrnagy Says:

Even your knowledge for colors/ uniform don’t make sense.

What does uniform and people/players etc have to do with each other…

But seriously, three RBs, none of which play special teams. Will never happen.

I’ll take Dobbins, Swift, J Taylor, Helair-Smith in a 2nd round trade back or if any are there in round 3. Najee Harris hasn’t declared as far as I know. Just know I would like to see OT and DT addressed early.

  71. Rod Munch Says:

Bonzai – I couldn’t disagree more on Barber, he looked like he was running in mud for most of this season – he just looked sluggish and slow. Ronald looked quick for most of the season, but couldn’t get consistent playing time.

Ronald should be the starter, he’s a guy who finished the year strong, had a 4.2 yard average (same as David Johnson in this BA offense in his big year), and was playing his best ball at the end of the year.

What the Bucs need is a 3rd down back. Dare is NOT an NFL talent and shouldn’t ever be seen on a Bucs field again. Ronald can be the starter, but they need a dedicated 3rd down back – then we’re set. Barber meanwhile might be lucky to get a vet min contract somewhere else, so in that case I guess he’s OK to bring back as the backup to the backup.

  72. Rod Munch Says:

Come on Joe – why would you delete my comment on the uniforms? There was literally nothing there that should have got it deleted. I was saying the uniforms are awful and for once wasn’t even attacking anyone but the piece of garbage company Nike.

  73. Ndog Says:

The 49ers might run for more yards tonight than we ran for all year.

  74. JimmyJack Says:

Wow I cannot believe how bad of a mismatch this NFC Championship game is. This is just pure dominance at the line of scrimmage.

I’ve never remember seeing a team make it this far that is so helpless to stop the run. Unreal how bad green bays defense is. Then I Don’t know what happened to their OL but they used to be know for being great in that area.

Joe you said you would key on their RT today. I can’t imagine he’s having a good day.

  75. Rod Munch Says:

Who doesn’t think the Bucs would have had a better showing today than the Packers or Titans?

That’s why next year is exciting. Assuming Winston and most of the FAs are back the team is going 11-5 and will make a deep playoff run.

  76. JimmyJack Says:

I think it’s wrong to protest your love for our uniforms. I could care less what we wear as long as it’s not girly colors. But you should realize that almost every Buc fan hates them. Not cool to stand in the way of a uniform change……Not like it effects how we play.

  77. Rod Munch Says:

What a monster John Lynch built – and that comes after all the national media pundits said he was an idiot that didn’t know what he was doing after making a hybrid FB/TE a highly paid guy in year 1. After last season there was a bunch of idiot fans saying Lynch and Shanahan needed to be fired, which is what the idiots on this message board would have been saying in the same situation.

In any case hopefully this helps him with the HOF vote, since he needs to get in so we can then get Barber in.

  78. Adrnagy Says:

Give the 49 era defense credit or packers beating themselves.?

No fire on Rodgers Since the start of the game. And it rubbed off to everyone.

  79. Chesapeake Bucco Says:

    u got munched, Rod! 😉

  80. JimmyJack Says:

Rod for sure we would have given the 49ers a better game then this. There is no freaking way we would let another team run all over us like this.

I gotta see a Packers fan on Tuesday. I might not even look at the dude. This is freaking embarrassing.

  81. Rod Munch Says:

NDog – This isn’t an attack, but you’re literally the first Bucs fan I’ve heard from that likes the current uniforms. At best I’ve heard people say they’re barely OK, but I’ve never heard someone saying they like them.

Personally I think they’re trash. They look like low-rent garbage, something that you pick when you make an expansion team in Madden. Just super generic, ugly color combos and they have nothing to do with Florida. They need to go back to the original white and orange and even bring back Bucco Bruce, he’d fit right in in the year 2020. But the orange was great, because it’s Florida, and we used to have orange trees literally everywhere. Even in 97 when they were changed, the Bucs had their own color, Pewter, which was cool. Now they have nothing, they killed the pewter for a more turd color, they have a tiny amount of orange that doesn’t stand out, and of course the God awful font. It was a terrible job by Nike.

  82. Ndog Says:

This is what happens when you put so much into your lines. 3 first round picks across the 49ers dline. LT first round pick, LG first round pick, C signed from the Falcons where he played in the same offense, RG 7th round pick, RT first round pick. That is 6 picks on the lines the 49ers and they are dominating the LOS, now let’s just hope they can do the same thing to the Chiefs.

  83. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – If I knew any Packers fans I’d be spiking ball on them. I really can’t get fired up for any of the NFC South rivalries, I just don’t have any real hatred in my heart for any of the other teams, they’re just too boring to care about. But the one team I still hate is the Packers. I hate their fans, I hate their stupid team, I hate their stupid city and I hate their stupid stadium. I even still hate Milwaukee because we’d have to play in that dump like half the time in the NFC Central days. But Atlanta? Who cares. The Saints? Who cares. The Carolina? Probably the most boring team in the history of the NFL, so who cares. But mocking Packers fans? I can do that 24/7.

  84. Rod Munch Says:

Everything I’ve read is that the 49ers defense is completely different with Kwon on the field. When he got injured they gave up something like 12 more points a game. He’s apparently their defensive leader, at least the emotional leader – that’s what I’ve read.

  85. Ndog Says:

Rod agree to disagree but brother the definition of generic is not specific. Our uniforms are very specific and that is one of the reasons I like them. What everyone seems to want is red jerseys and white numbers, call me crazy but isn’t that exactly what 49ers are wearing right now!?!? Anywho to be honest I will probably like anything they bust out as I loved the Orange and White, bought a new shirt at the uniform change announcement in 96-97 and I have the new helmet in my sports room right now along with the other two. The one thing I hope is they don’t change is the helmet as I honestly believe we have one of the best in the league.

  86. JimmyJack Says:

Well Carolina has always had our number. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe Dirk’s team was the only one to ever sweep them in a season. Not even the Super Bowl team.

If we have swept them before it was probably only once early on that I forgot about. Watching them kick our ass year after year is enough for me to hate em.

  87. Colonel Angus Says:

We swept Carolina our Super Bowl Season.

  88. JimmyJack Says:

Angus thanks for the correction. Don’t know why I remember it that way. I’ll blame it on the sheer hatred I got for that franchise.

  89. Not a lynch fan Says:

I hope Lynch and his team get CLOBBERED in the Super Bowl! He is a traitor and the biggest piece of crap around. I hope he NEVER makes the hall!

  90. Adrnagy Says:

Five colors , blend of past and future and on top of that reflective patch front and back. What else should be put on them ?

Rod and anyone interested in uniforms.

The article contains various different designs. Including a really nice updated orange and white version.

  92. Elite Vita Says:

Yes a RT, a RB and please please please more inspiring uniforms!

What they choose as the winner is awful, but the Best Updated Creamsicles aren’t bad – but look a bit too much like Tenneessee for my tastes. But it would be 100x better than what we have now. Going back to orange I think is the key, and I’m still bringing back Bucco Bruce, although their Bucco Bird is pretty good too. But those orange ones look so much better, just kill the stupid shoulder things and it’s looking good – even the flag in orange looks good.

  94. Rod Munch Says:

Ndog – The helmet, when it’s nighttime and lights are shining on it, can look pretty good. But everything else is terrible. As for people wanting red jerseys – they’re probably boring yankee trash. The Bucs should be orange – it’s Florida. Red is fine if you want to highlight red tide, but I don’t think that’s what we should be pushing.

  95. Rod Munch Says:

What is Rodgers doing there? You can’t win if you turn the ball over!!!! He needs to be cut, he’s awful. Who cares if it’s an impossible situation, you need to just take the sack and lose that way, if you lose on an INT, then you lose the TO column, and that’s the most important thing in football.

  96. Adrnagy Says:

Wow … Rodgers should be traded. Cut. Or retire. A lot of turnovers in the game the most counted. Lol
    Jimmy MVP 77yds passing.

Licht and Bruce are going to sign Winston. He can do better than those two qb.

  97. Jmarkbuc Says:

Congratulations to JLynch…what a class act.

  98. JimmyJack Says:

That was just a really bad an ugly football game on the part of Green Bay. Don’t ask me why I thought they would win please. I didn’t give the 49ers defense enough credit but it does setup a great matchup offense vs defense for the title.

  99. David Says:

Terry Bradshaw on Fox and then again with Chris Berman on ESPN both giving a shout out for John Lynch getting into the Hall of Fame!!

  100. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I like Winston, but I would trade him for Aaron Rodgers in a heartbeat. He carried that team all year.

  101. T REX Says:

Munch and the other Winston knob gobblers: If Winston, the loser, stays get used to watching other teams come playoff time. Winston is garbage and he’ll never win anything of team importance because he turns the ball over more than anyone else in the league. Bad. He sucks.

  102. ElioT Says:

Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 77 yards and won an NFC Championship game backed by an awesome defense and an incredible rushing attack.

Yep! – you can pass for 450 yards all you want and if you’re throwing picks it doesn’t matter at all.

Jameis could be the next Marino and it won’t matter.

Protecting the ball matters, offensive scheme matters, running the ball matters, playing great defense matters… especially in the post season.

If Rodgers had Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, the Packers might have won.

Winston’s bargaining chips just keep getting less and less. (*and I’d like to see Jamies back).

The formula for real winning football doesn’t change, probably never will…

    1.) Protect the ball
2.) Play Defense & rush the passer
    3.) Establish the run

Could you imagine what the Bucs (with Jameis) could do with that mindset and scheme dedication?

Bruce Arians better wake up and adjust his scheme, get #3’s head straight and focus on domination.

Could care less about 5,000 yards, just win the darn game and crush the opposition.

  103. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    • I think we’re already used to watching other teams in the playoffs

    • You are wrong about Winston, but only time will prove it. Until then, there’s no point in insulting people for liking a player you don’t

  104. ElioT Says:

    Congrats to John Lynch!

Kyle Shanahan is a “squealer” and everyone knows it. He’s talented but has one hell of a team constructed by Mr. Lynch.

If there are any players wearing 49ers jerseys that don’t respect #47, they can just watch the tape…

Lynch knocked out his brother in-law in Chicago and went straight back to the huddle, head-butted Sapp and focused on the next play. – Meanwhile his bro was being put on a stretcher.

Dude is smart as heck too.

    True professional in every sense.

    Cheers to John Lynch!

In this, you are mostly right. I mean, there have been QBs who threw picks in Championship games and still won…but really, the 49ers are not a vertical offense, so bad comparison.

Chiefs are more like the Bucs…except the have good defense and good special teams and a good RB.

If anything, the Chiefs are what the Bucs can be.

  106. ElioT Says:

I’d really like to see Jameis back on a mutually beneficial short term deal.

But if you’re going to negotiate based on yards and touchdowns thrown, you also have to include the offsetting turnovers and certainly what peers have done, with less “weapons”, less stats, and more wins.

The Bucs have a good thing going, they just need to be careful about how they structure the future of this entire team, not just #3.

    Go Bucs!

  107. ElioT Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai

I get your point totally, you’ve been posting here since I can remember and you surely know what you’re talking about.

It’s just difficult to put so much faith in that type of offense and catching “lightning in a bottle” like the Chief’s have with Mahommes… – Dude has proven he’s a once in a generation talent.

With that said, this is #BUCSLIFE 101

We never know what the heck is going to happen and we’re all doing our best not to simply resign to losing game after game, year after year.

This team has so much talent on both sides of the ball, it’s unreal.

Us Old School JBF posters (as much as we squabble) are family.

    Cheers bro!

  108. Dapostman Says:

    @Eliot,

Please tell us how the Bucs are supposed to score if they can’t and won’t run the ball.

  109. ElioT Says:

    @Dapostman

This is something I’ve griped about all year. – I have NO IDEA!

They have never committed to running the ball.

Whether it’s lack of game-plan/scheme or early turnovers and getting behind too early.

It’s not just about Jamies, that’s obvious to anyone who pays attention.

That’s why all this Pro/Anti Winston stuff is so frustrating.

  110. ElioT Says:

…and they can score, they just don’t WIN.

This whole offense is predicated around putting up historic stats for passing and that’s great if you’re in the playoffs, winning games but it means nothing if you’re sitting at home watching other offenses win these games with QBs throwing for less than 100 yards/game like it’s clockwork.

  112. adam from ny Says:

if you sign him there is no need to draft a rb this year…

    work him and rojo…

and maybe add a bruiser in like a danny vitale…

and the next year you draft a back if necessary…

this year focus on the trenches and a potential safety, if justin evans and others still pose question marks

  113. Jeff Says:

    $8-10MM minimal to land him.

  114. Brandon Says:

Bonzai, you missed my point. A third RB must play special teams. You can’t have 3 RBs on game day and none play special teams. It just won’t happen. Romo, Barber, and Johnson will never be core special teamers.

  115. T REX Says:

You are wrong about Winston, but only time will prove it. Until then, there’s no point in insulting people for liking a player you don’t

All of the evidence is that Winston is trash. FIVE years of turnovers. Record pick 6’s. Odds are he just sucks. Sorry. And the Winston knob gobbling brigade started with the insults long before us anti-Winston smart people.

If Aaron Rodgers wants another ring, he’d take a 15mil deal with the bucs.. same can be said of Winston. But I can see Rodgers doing that before an uber grubbing crap leg swiper would. Worked for Brady and the Patriots..
