Defense!

December 1st, 2019

Big first half.

Somewhere, Warren Sapp was smiling.

On the very same soil that Woody Hayes punched Bob Bauman, ending the iconic coach’s football days, the Bucs punched the Jags.

Like Hayes, who blasted Bauman late in the now infamous 1978 Gator Bowl, the Bucs’ defense came out swinging to start the game. A sack/strip/touchdown return and two picks on Jacksonville’s first three possessions ended up with the Bucs leading 22-0 and 25-0 at halftime.

The two biggest plays came from two players not on the Bucs’ roster last year: Shaq Barrett and Devin White.

Barrett, a free agent signing, went Simeon Rice on Jags starter Nick Foles and tomahawked the ball loose. White was there to recover the easy pickings and scored on a 14-yard return. Earlier, White picked off Foles on the Jags’ first drive, which led to a Peyton Barber 15-yard run.

On the Jags’ third possession, Carl Nassib sacked Foles forcing a fumble recovered by Ndamukong Suh. This set up a one-yard plunge by Barber.

For once the Bucs made their bones on defense, it was fun as hell for Joe to watch the Bucs build a four-score halftime lead on the shoulders of their defense.

And we wonder why even against bad teams we’re to losing to now we’re dominating. Hmmmm I think the title of this article says it all!!!!!!

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

Looks like the game is slowing down for DW, he’s been playing inspired football. LVD is a great mentor.

Defense was awesome, with this QB and WRs if the defense plays like this we are going to be a hard team to beat.

  9. Capt. Tim Says:

Thought Id never get to say it again.
I love the Bucs front 7.
Secondary shows signs of maturing into a great unit

Thank you, Todd Bowles. I had almost lost faith

  10. Biggun Says:

Our average age in secondary 22…. When Bowles gets the KIDS trained up we will have very nice stable and will just need to plug in when there is an injury…. At least for the next 5 years or better. Tampa defense will be feared again!!!!

  11. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Just think this all coincides with the release of VHBustIII Mr. Shrieker on every play he made.

  12. PragueBucsFan Says:

Carl Nassib quietly up to 5 sacks with 4 games to go

  13. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

I always like White at the #5 pick. I said when he was drafted that we need that speed in the middle… What a stud…

  14. JimmyJack Says:

BFFL……They are back under their rocks. Probably looking for some spare cash. Then will be seen tomorrow wearing their brand new White jerseys and will be heard saying loudly “I told you so!!!”

I will gladly eat my crow re: Devin White.

I wasn’t calling him a bust, just thought he was picked wayyyyyy too high for an inside / MLB when there was other talent still available.

But man if he keeps playing like this, we should have a superstar for the next decade.

Big props to this young man, he’s really turned it on the last few weeks.

  16. Bucamania Says:

Devin White was balling today! Good to see.

  17. ModHairKen Says:

How do they sign Shaq and Nassib and JPP and Suh? And Jameis? Only one tag.

  18. BucsNY96 Says:

    Per Greg Auman…

Again, sad as much as it is impressive, but the 11 points allowed by Bucs today in win at Jaguars is the fewest in any road game in the Jameis Winston era (since start of 2015). Last time was a 27-7 win at Redskins in 2014.

Some of the nonsense Jameis has had to deal w/ since being drafted!

  19. BucsNY96 Says:

    Per Greg Auman…

From the Not a Coincidence Department: Bucs have won back-to-back games for the first time since Dec. 2, 2018, which was also the last time they’ve held consecutive opponents to 22 points or less.

    🙊 but it’s all Jameis fault…

  20. orlbucfan Says:

This was my hope and wish. It is getting fulfilled. The defense under Bowles is definitely starting to come together. YEEE HAWWWW!! I feel sorry for the four teams Bucs play (with) to end the season. GO MIGHTY BUCS!!

  21. unbelievable Says:

    BucsNY96-

Careful, people around here don’t like facts that make you look at the whole picture.

So much easier to be lazy and just blame 1 guy (despite there bring 53 men on the roster and a minimum of 46 who touch the ball every single game)

  22. SOEbuc Says:

    ModHairKen

Tag Jameis. Drop Suh and get DT Javon Kinlaw in the first. Resign Shaq is a no brainer. Keep JPP for his final year. Replace Nassib with a OLB that fits into the scheme a bit better. They need to resign LVD some point again. He’s like a Brady LB that’s going to be awesome till he’s forty.

  23. MadMax Says:

Getting away from that “savior” moniker eh? lol

  24. Matthew Fifer Says:

Gotta say Suh may not have the stats that he used to when he was younger but he sure has a nose for recovering fumbles. That’s like his 4th on the year if I recall.

  25. Capt. Tim Says:

    BucsNY96

Hard to hold a team under 21 points, when you give them 3 turnovers a game . . .
