Arians Talks Winning Saturday, Winning Changes

December 19th, 2019

It’s great that the Bucs mauled a horrid Lions team, throttled an imploding Jaguars club, squeaked by a Colts franchise in a death spiral, and kicked the ass of the Falcons, who are the best dang 5-9 team in the NFL.

Four in a row, baby!

Joe’s only being a bit sarcastic above. Yes, Joe is wildly happy with the Bucs’ winning ways. It’s fun and encouraging.

However, Joe also lived through the 2010 Bucs season that saw them go 10-6, and Joe heard so many annoying fans scream about how the Bucs weren’t that good because they didn’t get a signature win against a good team. The schedule was too kind, they said.

Well, in September, the Bucs smacked around the Rams in Los Angeles. After that? Their wins were against a parade of losers.

Joe’s not knocking it. All you can do is play your schedule, but it’s worth nothing.

Joe believes that’s part of why Bucco Bruce Arians is putting what feels like extra focus into Saturday’s game against the Texans on national television. To best evaluate the Bucs this offseason, he needs to see what their very best looks like against a playoff team.

“To beat a team that’s going to the playoffs is huge for us right now. And then finish on a high note,” Arians said on Buccaneers Radio this week.

Also, Arians said winning lately has changed the franchise’s day-to-day operations.

“It’s much more lighter. Winning breeds a different atmosphere in an entire building. I think everybody in the organization right now feels a whole lot better about us,” Arians said.

Down three receivers and a starting safety, can the Bucs match up with the Texans?

Arians deserves a parade if the Bucs win on Saturday.

Never seen a streak of bad teams like we have had. Will be nice to see how we do against a team looking to get into the playoffs.

  2. Cannon Says:

Imagine if we were in the NFC East?…

  3. stpetebucsfan Says:

Perhaps it’s just me…perhaps the fact that the Bucs do not have that many wins to celebrate…but historically the Bucs seem to play to their competition…with the exception of this years two games against NO…those were just two ole fashioned butt whippings by a more talented team.

I remember games though even against NO where we’ve played “over our heads”. Last season nobody gave us a chance down there.

We can beat the Texans. Interesting to see how the D has improved from the Seattle game when mobile Russell Wilson gave us fits…still we were in it till the coin toss.

Want to see how we handle a great mobile QB like Watson this Saturday…see if we’ve improved.

  4. pelbuc Says:

Big measuring stick, especially for the defense. JW cannot throw picks in this game with Watson at QB for the Texans. Bucs need to keep it close and Gay needs to make a clutch kick. All three phases need to have a good game.

  5. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

If the Bucs were in the NFC East their record would be worse

They’d have to face the dangerous Giants twice (who they lost to) a Dallas team that they’ve never beaten with Prescott at QB, then they’d have to play Philly in the cold and Play the Pats and the Bills oh and Washington has a rookie qb and the defense can’t beat rookie QBs

So hold on with your what if scenarios

  6. Robert Says:

    too little too late……

  7. Lamarcus Says:

Doesnt matter who we beat in my book. Just win baby. Keep winning. Idc if its against a 0-14 team I’ll never throw cold water on water on a win.

“The only best losing teams” crowd can shove it

  8. Lamarcus Says:

Sorry the ” we only beat losing teams” crowd can shove it up their a$$es and doesnt matter. We gonna be 7-1 to end the season and 1 fg away from potential being 10-6.

    The Godfather Stick carrier who?

  9. Defense Rules Says:

We’re setting the stage for next year with this team. Sunday’s game is super-important IMO to keep the momentum going & show that we can in fact beat good teams.

  10. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

“We gonna be 7-1 to end the season and 1 fg away from potential being 10-6.”

One quick whistle in Tennessee from being 11-5.

  11. pryda...sec 147 Says:

    We gonna smoke em

  12. TampaTown Says:

Forget Winston. It’s the defense especially the secondary we’ll have to worry about.

  13. Colonel Angus Says:

Wonder if other teams whine about beating bad teams? I’m sure Patriots fans don’t care that they’ve benefited from playing in the weakest division in the league over the past 20 years. That’s why I’d like to see the division format go away. Take top 7 teams from each conference to playoffs, #1 gets a bye, seeds #2 thru #7 play wild card weekend. Bucs would be in a 4 way tie for the 7th seed right now.

    DR

    game is Saturday…..

uncle mo can be a hard thing to carry over….ask dirk….

    im hoping we do tho….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  15. toby Says:

damned if we win, damned if we lose

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Looking at the Bucs fairly…….4 of our losses are to very good top playoff teams…..NO twice, SF & Seattle…..(took Seattle at home to OT)

Two of our losses were outright gifts……Giants & Titans…..(gave them 2 TOs in their red zone….got burnt on Whites forced fumble on the fake punt.

So….our season isn’t just about beating bad teams……

Yes, Saturday will be a big test….can we beat a good team minus some important weapons?…..Better than playing for a draft pick.

  17. Red Skeleton Says:

In the past we lost to the team we thought we should beat. We call them losing teams but we were always a losing team ourselves because we lost to these losing teams. @ Cannon, We lost to the worst team in the NFC East so I don’t want to imagine!!

  18. Jonny Says:

Bucs get whooped by Saints because Sean Payton always outcoaches our guys. Combine that with how Saints d-line manhandles bucs o-line, the slow developing routes and Jameis propensity to stare down his receivers on quick passing plays, we have the ugly product every single time. Cam Jordan was not simply trolling when he made fun of Donovan Smith getting an extension.

  19. Dewey Selmon Says:

Ghost, it works both ways, Hargraves doesn’t tackle CMC we are 6-8

  20. Adam Lakers Carolla Says:

I bet Robert aka “Big Shot Bob” would be a lotta fun a a Buc’s tailgate party.

  21. Craig Says:

Arians will deserve a parade if they win Saturday.

    A couple of reasons:

Their QB is the kind to give our D-line fits.

Their defensive backfield can switch from man to zone in the middle of a play. That will give Jameis fits.

Their defensive line isn’t what it used to be, but it can stop our run game. Jameis will need something to keep their defense honest and the run game won’t be able to do it.

Jameis takes a while to understand his receivers, that is going to make some plays be off enough that it might cause a rise in his interception stats.

The Bucs can’t have any flat spots in their game. Deshaun will keep coming.

The Texans are looking for someone to takes the sting out of the Broncos game. They are going to have a bad attitude.

The Bucs have a hard time playing at home.

  22. Jmarkbuc Says:

We need a run game and/or screen game…. drain the clock, and keep our D off the field. Saw somewhere that Gay has a groin problem, not good for a kicker. Hope it doesn’t come down to a FG or XP:

  23. LordCornelius Says:

“One quick whistle in Tennessee from being 11-5”

Or winning the coin toss in Seattle from being 12-4.

  24. JimmyJack Says:

Yes in 2010 we had a easy schedule. We also struggled to barely beat some of them bad teams we played that year.

These wins are different. We are beating most these team handily. The Bucs are playing very good football right now. We are a good team right now and will prove it in front of a national audience on Saturday.

Forget wondering if we made that kick or not been cheated in Tennessee…….The early part of the season the narritive was that we were beating ourselfs. Now we are not we are playing good solid football. Had we played solid all year we would be in contention.

To me there is no use worrying about it. It took time to learn these new schemes……Especially on defense with many young people is. What does matter is we now have established expectations. I expect this team to fight tooth and nail with Houston. I expect a good solid football game & it will come down to the 4th quarter.

This team will stop beating itself and we are gonna win a lot of games next year. Guess what? We got easy teams on the schedule next year too.

    GO BUCS!!!

  25. Sport Says:

Winning also has completely eliminated that annoying TrollMax character. How refreshing that I can now read all the comments without having to skip over his posts.

    Yippee!!!

    In BA I Trust!

  26. SOEbuc Says:

Think if we were in the NFC East??? What if we were in the AFC east??? I’ve been giving the Patriots sh!t for years now about that.
