It Finally Happened

November 25th, 2019

Blitzer.

Joe had concluded it was a sad con of Bucs fans. But it may no longer be a sales pitch.

Ever since the Bucs drafted middle linebacker Devin White — from Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians to defensive coordinator Todd Bowles — the Bucs trumpeted how the team didn’t need to draft a pass rusher at No. 5 because White, among is many other superpowers, would blitz quarterbacks up the middle early and often (no matter the Bucs were horrible at rushing the passer).

Joe was skeptical at the time and wasn’t the only one. Even former Bucs scout and Jets player personnel director Pat Kirwan, co-host of “Movin’ the Chains” heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, scoffed at this notion.

“So you are going to blitz Drew Brees up the middle? Good luck with that,” Kirwan said last offseason.

And through 10 games this season, the chest-thumping that White would cure the Bucs’ pass-rushing ills seemed a cruel pitch to Bucs fans desperate for decent pass rushing.

Well, the promise finally came true yesterday when White buried Dixie Chicks quarterback Matty Ice twice. Both coming on blitzes up the middle.

About time!

Now do not make a mistake. Joe was happy as can be to see this. Joe just hopes White firing up the middle to get after a quarterback becomes a regular staple of this defense.

I bet he heard from Shelton Quarles about making the read and dropping into coverage…

  2. ChanEpic Says:

I was a little down on D White earlier this season too. There is no doubt this guy FLIES around the field. Definitely an upgrade at the position and he’s going to get better.

  3. Tampabuscsbro Says:

him blitzing this much successfully won’t be a regular occurrence. But if he can get better in coverage I will be fine with him.

  4. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

Guys please dont get over excited with this win and what you saw, yes enjoy the win but your delusional if you think this team can go up against a wining record team. I promise you that if they sign JW to a big contract he will continue to play the same way good or bad.

  5. ChanEpic Says:

H8JWLVEBUCS – How did a post about D. White turn into yet another JW crap post? We get it. We all get it.

  6. BigHog Says:

I said yesterday that he would get a sack…but I don’t think he quite got the 15 solo tackles!!

  7. Sport Says:

Joe – what is that you could have said that led us to believe you were (and are) down on D White?

‘Make no mistake’. No sir, the mistake is yours by evaluating, casting judgement and applying nicknames prior to the completion of a season. Especially a rookie season.

Now go hug your Manziel Fathead decal.

    In BA I Trust!

  8. BigHog Says:

If he wants Ray-Ray money..he has no choice but to bring his game up!!

  9. BucsNation08 Says:

    @ H8JWLVEBUCS

How can we be delusional thinking would could go against a team with a winning record when we beat the rams and went toe to toe with the 9-2 seahawks, I just dont get why this fan base is so horrible

    “Starting at the LOS

have not seen this straight downfield speed and quickness explosiveness straight to the QB similar to DW

though 5’11 he has upper body strength to fight/fend off the initial contact

then the instant little crack of opening

DW is gone past the oline like a flash

Kobe has not seen this move/manuever before from another player

usally a 5’11 player doesnt have the strength but DW does

but than the quickness and speed to bring the QB down

Kobe has come to a conclusion to move Devin White to nose tackle and V Vea to full back”

  11. TOM EDRINGTON Says:

Teams with three wins (Atlanta) are there typically because there’s no protection for the quarterback……this one was easy pickins…

  12. Waterboy Says:

Looking good for 7-8 games into his rookie season after starting off sick in week 1 and getting injured week 2.

  13. Dapostman Says:

The guy hurt his knee in the 2nd game of his rookie season. Give him a some time to adjust to the NFL. He’s going to be very good and I’d like to point out that’s why Kirwin is talking about football and not running a team!

  14. Kobe Faker Says:

“Both teams know too well what BK and AK stands for

    Before Koetter and After Koetter

looking at yesterdays Atlanta koetter offense looks exactly like the past 4 year offense of Tampa bays

moving the chains inside from 20 t0 20 and bogging down

no run game and the QB holding the ball

*no one likes to mention it, but JW under Koetter is twice as better QB than MVP Ryan with Klueless”

Seems like everyone was labeling him a bust right out the gate cuz he didn’t start killing it right away yes top 5 draft picks are supposed to make a impact well here you go he is an most likely will be for a long time. Patience people Rojo is rounding into form but yes y’all labeled him a bust to last year. All these players finally getting developed by real coaches seems like Jason maybe hasn’t done that bad drafting after all. Record doesn’t show it yet but it will. This place was a train wreck basement title after basement title think that just gets turned around in a few months. Hell no if we are luck it takes 2 years to rebuild this place. NOW BA did lie an said this was a reload. He prob had good intentions but didn’t realize how bad of a mess this place is. Get ready y’all we gotta build this thing right from the ground up.

  16. Alanbucsfan Says:

Joe has no patience with rookies…
But 5 years of turnover machine- wow, look at those yards!
We all want Jameis to succeed- and not every 3rd game

  17. Buczilla Says:

If Eugene Marve Jr. keeps it up I will be thrilled, profusely apologize for making fun of him, and forget all about Josh Allen for this year. However, if he isn’t at least the second coming of Hardy Nickerson in the next few years, then he was over drafted and not worth 5 (!) overall.

  18. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Barrett and JPP handle the pass rush, Devin and LVD handle the middle. If this was Joe’s team, it’s be Allen, Barrett, Minter, LVD, and JPP. I’d rather be strong across the board than having a weak link.

  19. Christopher Schiefen Says:

    *Josh Allen

  20. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

White is 100% Alpha Male, glad he is on our Team!
Surprised he chose LSU, when Alabama, Ohio State, and Auburn were after him out of High School.
This Man is a one man wrecking crew, and as he gains pass coverage experience, is gonna be a Pro Bowl Player for us, for years to come.

  21. Buccfan37 Says:

No pressure! Party time…the seasons over and we’re all still here getting paid for playing a kids game. Looks like play on won out over tank.

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

As has been said before by many posters…this is just deja vu.

Been here and done that last year with Vita Vea. All the FSU homers angry we didn’t take Derwin James. How does that look now? We got perhaps the best athlete in the entire draft in Vea.

Now it’s Josh Allen and woe is us…no pass rush….An MLB has the potential to dictate to opposing offenses. White will clearly surpass Luke Kuechly as the best MLB in the Division and in another or two in the entire Conference.

“Guys please dont get over excited with this win”

Why? Would it hurt you any for people to be excited for a change? Instead of whining all of the time?

Take a look at Tony Dungy’s first year, and then talk to me. He started with a horrible run of games (something like 1-7) and then started winning. Didn’t worry about the draft at all, because he was changing a culture.

And it worked. The next year, we were in the playoffs.

To be fair, Joe was not the only one who wanted someone else. Pretty much everyone here did, outside of a relative few. Revisionists turn it on Joe or someone else, rather than admit it themselves.

Thankfully, I went into last off season with no predictions or desires. I just wanted to sit back and see who was picked for a change. Felt weird not making a wishlist though.

  25. MadMax Says:

D, White!!!! Im smiling too my man!!!!!

Now we need to draft Derrick Brown or Isaiah Simmons (IS especially if we cant afford Barret, he plays SS and LB, and for those who wanted Derwin James, Simmons is your guy this time))

  26. Brandon Says:

You know that he’s been blitzing up the middle since the day he became a Buc… he just hasn’t been successful until yesterday.

  27. OBP Says:

Just imagine what we’ll be able to do once we get some decent pass rushing 3-4 DEs? White is gonna FEAST

  28. SOEbuc Says:

Pullin’ a Vita. Some people were scared he was gonna be a drag down type tackler but he’s been getting his shoulders down and throwing the smack down at the moment.

  29. BucAllNight Says:

    @Dapostman

    EXACTLY!!!

Its funny to hear Joe#2 FAWN over Polian (Lamar Jackson MVP Candidate Should be a WR) and Kirwan( GM of the Jersey Jets who never one anything) analysis.

These guys have no more credibility than me (Draft is a crapshoot btw) and this teams media treats it like royalty.
