You Know You Are In Trouble When…

October 25th, 2019

Not yet.

A good sign a team is heading in the right direction is it has a coordinator thought to be a hot candidate for a coaching vacancy in the coming weeks (yes, Black Monday isn’t that far off).

And thus far, neither Bucs coordinator is rumored to be in the mix for a promotion. At least in late October.

That’s the word from Tom Pelissero of NFL.com.

In researching his project, now in its third season, Pelissero lists his criteria of young hot candidates: age limit is a coach no older than his early 40s, and a coach who has not been a full-time NFL head coach.

So that eliminates Bowles, whose pass defense with the Bucs is abhorrent, because he has been a head coach before.

So what about Byron Leftwich? Pelissero throws the Bucs offensive coordinator’s name into a bucket of coaches who Pelissero politely describes as maybe-in-the-future types.

Pelissero lists 11 coaches, both in the NFL and college, whose names are known to be on a hot list of wanted men within NFL circles. Leftwich misses the cut except to be on Pelissero’s “watch list” in the coming years.

Simply put, if one of your coordinators is being rumored to be high on a wanted list, that means your team is doing well or you have a coordinator that is getting the job done.

Currently, Leftwich’s resume with the Bucs is a mixed bag. The team is scoring points (good!) and the quarterback is throwing for a lot of yards (good). So in that respect, Leftwich is getting results.

If you are hung up on picks (not so good) and not using tight ends (bad) gives you constipation, then Leftwich isn’t your cup of tea. And don’t get Joe started about the running game.

In Joe’s eyes, Leftwich’s failure with Josh Rosen in Arizona combined with Jameis’ uneven results and Leftwich’s poor use of talented tight ends suggests he has a lot of room to grow before he’s a serious head coaching candidate.

I agree with your statement about the poor use of the Tight ends. But Joe come on Jameis has been “uneven” his entire career that isn’t on Leftwhich.

  2. Clean House Says:

It’s absurd to even discuss this…
    What success has he had??

  3. BigHog Says:

FAMOUS’S coaching has been below “uneven” since he was drafted until this year of course!!

  4. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

Bad. Bad. So Sad vs. Expectations…and hope?

    1) Thought TB defense, would be better than last year
    2) Thought BA offense, would be better than last year
    3) Thought BA would impact JW3 — hope still in last remaining games
    4) Thought BA would change culture — hope still there for last games
    5) Thought TB would change Pass D. For now, same ole….worried!

Bucs fan —-still hopes for playoff!

  5. BigHog Says:

As we hope …LETS not get dejected, as a team they are better in my opinion! I just hope we keep BA around if he wants to be here!!

  6. REDZONE BA Fan Says:

@BigHog… Hopeful for Playoff options in 2019, albeit challenging.

We need to keep BA & JW3 in 2020, regardless of 2019 results.

JW3 will improve under BA. 2020 will be different, if we stay the course (and much to chagrin of JW3 killers) Bucs will be relevant in 2020 w/JW3 as QB….and make playoffs. And compete for SB….

  7. BigHog Says:

REDZONE: I’m there with you…2020 will be the year of the BUCS…STAY THE COURSE…STEADY AS SHE BLOWS!!

  8. richbucsfan Says:

It’s bad when you review the skills of the CBs drafted. Something is seriously wrong with the scouting department. Watched some of the game last night and the announcers were talking about the Vikings two receivers picked up in their draft. Both starters, both difference makers. Then, there’s the Bucs… Every year poor draft picks, wasted picks, this team will never get better under this regime or with this ownership.

  9. ElBajito43 Says:

Uncle Leftwitch is a candidate for the Houston Astros pitching coach, where Jameis Winston will be a relief pitcher…. PLEASE GOD

    FIRE 🔥 LICHT

  10. Todd Says:

Yesterday was the first day since London that the team worked on their Titans game plan. All other days this week have been dedicated to the “Accountability Board” from the GMC Bowl.

M-W was dedicated to the VH3 list. Yesterday was all Winston, Evans and the OL.

Two weeks has just flown by.

  11. Bird Says:

    Ladies and gentleman

    I give you obsezzed joe

Josh Rosen …you realize he was already benched in Miami of all places (the other outhouse in the nfl ) for fitzpatrick who started the season and was benched for Rosen.

And Jameis uneven results? Why do you continue to watch #3 like it was his second game after that glorious 1st game – Pitt vs FSU. Jameis has been this way his entire career. Ups and downs. To his 100 tds , he has almost 100 turnovers ( 88 to be exact). That is pretty hard to do. And no …it’s not all Jameis fault …he has been on some bad teams with bad defense and olines but give me a break. The QB in the new nfl has more of an impact on a game then ever. Dbs can’t sniff a receiver without holding being called or pass interference …nfl wants shoot outs. They are encouraging teams to throw even if its a 5 yard pass.

If BA , thought Leftwich was the problem , he would get involved. I think BA is like …I’m not touching this one. Not ruining my legacy with calling plays for luck , Manning , Big Ben etc etc.

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Hmmm, one can only wonder if BL is making Jameis look bad or whether it’s Jameis who’s making BL look bad. Or MAYBE they both make each other look bad. Wow what a dilemma.

  13. Anonymous Says:

OMG Leftwich is so bad and Arians looks to be letting him. As Arians says, it’s too much stress to call plays himself. Since Arians is in the business now of using fan goodwill and Glazer time and money to do things like give lady coaches with no NFL experience a chance, nurture an OC so he can learn over the course of season and make OJT mistakes, and coach from a golf cart, it is up to all of us to just trust in him for one, two, more seasons without raising the BS flag.

Looks to me like Arians has retired again. He is waiting for the actual date to roll around.

  14. Anonymous Says:

Whoa now. Is Leftwich/Arians doing any better than Todd Monken/Koetter on O? Don’t look at just stats. Look at results. This offense LOOKs a tad worse than last year, and the D is still very ineffective. I think the only thing improved is run D (but why run, right?) and kicking, though Santos actually held his own too.

We expect a good game Sunday from all because that’s how they have usually done things after a string of losses. And if they lose?

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

Defense Rules- That sir, is what they call “the rub!” There are plays where WRs/TEs are open and are not thrown to. Is that on the OC or the QB? Is the lack of quick-strike passes a result of play calling or the inability of the QB to release the ball?
I think these are relevant questions.
On Leftwich, he’s a rookie OC on a horrible football team. What do people expect?!

  16. DooshLaRue Says:

    Don’t forget now…..

Jameis relates better with Byron because they are both black and that’s what’s most important.
    Straight from the ATM’s mouth.

  17. Isaac haggins Says:

B A is too tight with Licht , too caught up in raising Lefty and too friendly with Bowles .

Nothing has improved to help the Qb and it’s not that hard unless relationships get in the way !!! Pretty simple Sht !! Bench or trade VH 3 and Stewart, Get a better right side lineman ( Licht) ………. Boy has Licht played the Glazers ……… 5 years , Can’t protect the qb any better than year 1, worst pass d in the nfl after spending plenty of draft capitol, No 100 yard rusher for like a year or two and now an insestual GM, coach, coach relationship/ protectionship!!! This isn’t helping right the ship !!

  18. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Defense Rules-

Jameis makes everyone look bad, And Rosen can’t beat out Fitzpatrick.
Bucs need a QB, everyone needs to accept it and move on.

  19. Locked In Says:

Leftwich as a head coach candidate is ridiculous. No one is considering him as a head coach, unless it is to fulfill the Rooney rule as an interview. He has done nothing to warrant consideration for head coach.

  20. Anonymous Says:

Give Winston more time with the QB whisper. 1 offseason an 6 games isn’t that long an to see results he’s prob going to need at least a full year with BA. now the defense is a diff story idk if any player we draft trade for or get in FA can help this defense lol it’s that scary bad

  21. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

The season starts as a Buc fan

  22. Rayjay1122 Says:

They will all be back next season and the Bucs will continue to suck.

  23. The Coroner Says:

    That summons up Leftwich’s career.

  24. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

To those who think like Alanbucsfan:

What is the difference between Kirk Cousins 2018 & Cousins 2019?

    Great run game…

…and when will Leftwich be a potential HC candidate?

when he can recognize on the stat sheet that Rojo is more productive than Barber!

    its not rocket science

  25. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Senor Harry-

If Jameis played like Kirk Cousins, I’d have hope for QB position…
Jameis loses, – until that changes, which it won’t until the sacks , interceptions and indecision stop, – Bucs need to sign or draft and develop a winner

  26. Hodad Says:

He’s a BA meltdown, health, mental issue by seasons end. Lefty would be our new HC, and BA would spent the rest of his contract driving a golf cart around One Buc Place. He’ll also visit kid’s hospitals, with Capt. Fear, and the Cheerleaders.

  27. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

With all due respect Alan, we really don’t know what Jameis can do until the Bucs give him a defense and running game. When Jameis has had even a semblance of those two things, we had a pretty good team.

I very much agree with you and everyone else on the turnovers. Its beyond ridiculous the things Jameis does with the football when he puts on the Superman cape

  28. Isaac haggins Says:

Senor Harry , How bout a D that can get off the field and hold an opponent to may be 14 points

  29. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

I agree Isaac, but 14 pts/game would make them 3rd best in the league. So, how about at least keep them under 23pts – that would tie them with the Colts for #16 – middle of the pack. That does not seem like too much to ask.

  30. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

^^^ right now we avg giving up 31 its/gm, 3rd worst in the league. Yeah, its all Winston’s fault.

  31. Buczilla Says:

In the immortal words of Ted Webb, you can’t make a chicken salad out of chicken $h!t. I am a dumba$$ for drinking the cool aid and thinking that it was all about coaching. This team just lacks the necessary talent at key positions.

  32. Rob Tanner Says:

Jesus, six games into a 16 and we’re worrying about coordinators being picked up at the end of the year? You wrote Black on Monday is close? I thought that s(p)lit as you would say, happens at the end of the year not six games in? #TryHarder #Fail #EvilBucsMedia
