Jonesing Over O-Line

October 1st, 2019

Impressed with Bucs o-line.

How did the Bucs’ offensive line, which too many fans want to tear apart and run out of town, shut down future Hall of Fame defensive tackle Aaron Donald?

Well, to hear Brian Baldinger speak, it took a village.

No one seems to enjoy good blocking more than former offensive linemen like Baldinger.

Baldinger, who works for NFL Network and FOX Sports, played with the Colts, Cowboys and Eagles. And the way Baldinger got pumped breaking down various blocking schemes the Bucs used on Donald, he sounded like he needed a drool towel. He went on and on and on about how well the Bucs took Donald out Sunday.

Baldinger broke that down video-style on his Twitter timeline and said it was clear the Bucs had a real gameplan for battling Donald. And it wasn’t just one or two looks or one or two players who got the job done. Shoot, even RoJo got into the act.

That had to be one of the best jobs a Bucs offensive line has done in years. Donald was a virtual non-factor.

You can see Baldinger’s breakdown below.

When I saw Donald was on Marpet’s side I knew we were ok.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

Wow that was an outstanding film breakdown by Baldy. Guess it just goes to show that if our OLine can give Jameis time, he can carve up about any defense with weapons like ME13, Godwin, OJ, Brate & RoJo. Pick your poison.

Kudos to each of the OLinemen for playing a superb game, but especially to our coaching staff for putting together a great gameplan. They knew where to help & when to help and that gave Jameis much more time than he usually gets. And kudos to Jameis for standing tall & hanging tough.

    NIce.

Sometimes at game speed you miss whats going on.

Never saw this type of game planning with Welcome Back.

  4. Architek79 Says:

    Marpet has arrived!!

  5. Clean House Says:

I think this footage and critique is phenomenal. What a great job!

  6. Unimpressed Says:

Even Dotson held his own, the whole line put together one hell of a game, Jameis looked comfortable for the majority of his snaps.

  7. I Bleed Pewter Says:

It helped that Jameis was getting the ball out quick. He looked confident.

  8. ModHairKen Says:

The Rams game is over. Move on. The Saints ain’t no picnic.

  9. VA Tom Says:

I wasnt too thrilled with Arians O Line coaching picks. I was wrong. Good job by the players and coaches. Talent and scheme. Nice game.

  10. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Every team has to double up on Aaron Donald

    ……..not rocket science dude

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

……and every week is a new test

We’ve seen this broken record before but the biggest key here is coaching.

Everyone knows I’m one of Winston’s biggest critics.
Only because I want to see consistency. That’s all. No stupid picks and no roller coasters from week to week.

I also give props when due.
Winston looked very poised in the pocket and wasn’t playing scared.
That floater to Godwin for the TD Winston had guys right in his face. Right up on him and he stood tall and made a great pass to Godwin. That’s the Winston the Bucs need every week. Dang it should be 3-1. Friggin kickers.
Can’t say enough good things about the game Winston played.

Awesome seeing him hit Evans perfectly in stride.

To go in LA and win like that should be a huge confidence boost for the team.
I was extremely impressed. The best game the Bucs have played in years.

O line? Wow that’s what Winston needs. Open some running lanes and give him some time to pass and they “may” win some games.

It’s been awhile since I’ve said “man I can’t wait till next Sunday”

Unimpressed says, “Even Dotson held his own”

Dotson was always good in pass blocking. He just sucks in run blocking.

  14. Boogie Says:

Its early but Cappa sure is shutting those haters up! Another quality find in the mid rounds by Jason Licht (don’t look now but here comes Ryan Smith to save the secondary) 😉

Bucs have won 3 out of the last 4 when visiting the Big Easy. No time for anything but continuation of that trend. Brees injury just means that when Bucs get to say 28-31 points scored , that should be enough , but of course more is always better.
Ndamakong Suh should be inking an extension. Praying for Devin White’s healthy return , as he would be so jazzed for this homecoming. Defense getting turnovers in bunches is no small part of scoring 55. Keep up the great work fellas and thanks to the whole coaching staff for making it exciting to be a Bucs fan.

  16. Bird Says:

Jameis playing good …oline playing good …running backs playing good….
    Rush defense playing good.

Only the pass defense is a weak spot right now.
They are young group. I hope coaches can get in their ear. Maybe Ryan smith gets on field.

Regardless , coaching was part of the problem

Let’s see if we can show up each week. Saints the next test.
If they can , we can beat our division – especially with Drew Brees on sideline.

D rules…I’m sure you noticed that not only did the line do a great job, but Jameis didn’t hold onto the ball. It was less than three seconds and out on almost all passes. If he had held the ball four seconds or more, like he does at times, it would have been a different story. Bottom line…it was a great team effort.

  18. Pickgrin Says:

Nice job OLine… Keep it up and this offense wins quite a few games this year!

  19. mark2001 Says:

Anthem…one thing to double team him…another to wall him off.

  20. Bculaw Says:

    Coaching matters.

The play of the o-line in general, Cappa, Rojo, etc. is a huge indictment on the prior coaching staff. If JW continues to improve, it is an even bigger indictment. Schemes only go so far if you can’t coach and develop players.

  21. 813bucboi Says:

    bculaw

    i agree!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  22. BucDan Says:

Can never go wrong with a Baldy Breakdown!

O-Line looked stout and that breakdown showed that they were communicating greatly.

Great job by our offensive coaches, as well. Great gameplan.

  23. TampaTown Says:

That is an awesome film breakdown! Love the slo-mo speed to illustrate all his points and to more clearly see the double and triple teams. Very impressive game plan

  24. Bobby Says:

Seems like light years since Cleveland owned us in pre-season. That’s the difference game planning makes. Good coaching plus talent and we get the kind of game we saw Sunday. Like Arians said; “Stack ‘em up!”

  25. orlbucfan Says:

There was no called defensive holding at the start of the video after Ungodly made that catch. Correct me if I’m wrong. It looked like #84 was held. Nothing new. I’ve been waiting for 2-3 years to see this ####### offense blossom. Hope this ain’t a mirage. Go Mighty Bucs!!

  26. Buccfan37 Says:

When is White returning to play? Haven’t heard much of anything, no detail of the injury or the timeline to return. Must be a secret or I missed it.

  27. unbelievable Says:

Best performance from the o-line since probably 2015.

If this continues, we should be able to win a lot of games.

  28. GrafikDetail.com Says:

COACHING!! hindsight being 20/20 wish the bucs would have sent koetter packing with Lovie LOL hate to say it but at the time of his hiring, Skip Bayless was right that Koetter assembled the worst coaching staff in the NFL

  29. Buc96NYC Says:

Jameis will soon be getting chants for MVP if this keeps up!

Now is the time against the Saints to breakout! Time for Donovan Smith to step up against Cam Jordan who disrespected him with an uncalled for twitter/tweet about “time to eat” as Smith signed his contract. Time to shine Bucs o-line!!!!!!!!
