Doesn’t Like McCaffrey

October 10th, 2019

Dislikes Carolina film.

It has really blown Joe away how the Bucs defense has just shut down opponents’ running attacks.

But it is one thing to lock up a running attack that didn’t last, like the Bucs had last year. It’s quite another to squeeze solid running backs who are used to getting 100-yard games.

Just look at who the Bucs caged this season: Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, Todd Gurley and Alvin Kamara. That’s a freaking Who’s Who of running backs.

Now on the Atlantic Ocean horizon is McCaffrey. Again. While watching film since the Bucs last played the Stinking Panthers, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is getting a sour taste in his stomach.

“Everything I’ve seen on the film, I didn’t like,” Bowles said. “Because he’s running for touchdowns all the time. [Carolina is doing] nothing different. Like I said, they’re running the ball a lot better. You can tell they’ve come together as a unit.”

Well, Joe is curious to see if the Bucs keep up their ability to stop the run. Balling out against McCaffrey may have shocked the NFL. But after that game, teams had to have taken notice. And still, teams couldn’t adjust, as the results showed.

Of course, one could argue the way teams have played backyard football against the Bucs’ secondary, why the hell would you even try to run the ball? Fair question.

Well you just answered your own question Joe.

This is just like Schianos defense:
1st against the run, 32nd against the pass.

  2. Etzel Says:

Run the ball? Why would they do that???

  3. Etzel Says:

Just split out Chip McCaff and throw slants to him all day. #offensivegenius

  4. Alanbucsfan Says:

    McCaffrey is the Panthers’ offense.
Stop him and they don’t score more than 24, which means Jameis and offense must execute with no turnovers- continue running the ball and throw the ball to your 1st round picks for crying out loud!!

  5. NPRSageBoy Says:

After reviewing the beating the Bucs secondary took against the Saints, why would the Panthers even try to run against the Bucs? Norv Turner will probably throw on every down.

  6. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Ya jinxed us Joe…..I can see McAffrey toting the ball for 150 now.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I can see it coming….short quick passes with a smattering of Olsen…..

As usual, our offense needs to be extremely good for us to win.

  8. Defense Rules Says:

What do you mean that ‘teams couldn’t adjust’ Joe? Giants adjusted pretty well by putting up 32 points on us. Rams adjusted by putting up 40 points on us. Saints adjusted by putting up 31 points on us.

The only team who couldn’t adjust was the Panthers. And that was largely because of Cam Newton. Injured or not, he played a lousy game. The Panthers have now adjusted by replacing Newton. The two big questions in my mind are (1) can the Panthers’ OLine protect Kyle Allen adequately enough to allow him to use the short passing game effectively; and (2) can the Panthers hold onto the ball & not make turnovers.

  9. Pewter power Says:

The offense runs through him they dont have a choice but to run it’s their offense. Even though we’ve already beat them here we go again….we have soft fans but a lot of cowardly fans, every week people are scared of everyone but gave the giants no respect and expected to be easy. We are in games and they need to come together as a team. I can take what’s going on much more than I can the blow outs in the first half of games last year. I expect a win and to take control of second place because I’m a fan…..damn so many scary fans

  10. Ben real Says:

Joe are you dumb? We stop the run because teams have success passing on us … your something special for a supposed sports writer … you have a lot of homework to do

  11. HernandoBuc Says:

McCaffrey is going to give us pains for the next 5 years if not longer. I wish there was some way we could’ve picked him up on the draft that year. I wanted the Bucs to get him so bad. Instead we have OJ who is awesome and I love as a Buc, but he’s not even being utilized to his full potential. I couldn’t imagine what he would be doing if her were in New England.

  12. Hodad Says:

The QB will be perfect against us. He’s the back up, you know what that means? Loss! We were Carolina’s last loss, with crappy Cam. They have new life, a undefeated back up QB, when have we ever beat a back up?

  13. unbelievable Says:

    @pewter power

I don’t think it’s fans being “scared” as much as many longtime, diehard fans that have simply been beaten down by over a decade of ineptitude and pathetic, non-competitive play.

  14. Mike Johnson Says:

Trap Game. A rookie QB who is playing well does not bide well for these Bucs. They wom’t run a lot. So we’d better be ready for..Bombs away from their QB or its gonna be a long a** road trip for nothing.

  15. JimmyJack Says:

They will try to run on us. That’s their identity.

I did a quick look at Klyer Allen’s stats and saw that in his 3 games he has been sacked 8 times and has coughed up the rock 6. So yeah, absolutely they would love to run the ball to help eliminate them negative plays.

Also noticed Allen has not thrown a pick yet. I’ll say that means he is due and what better way to introduce him to that part of NFL QBing then taking one to the house?

    Make it happen!!

    GOOO BUCS!!!!

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Anyways all y’all Buc fans…..I say put the negative outlooks aside for the next few hours and enjoy a game 5 from a team that has brought pride to this city.

Even if your not a ⚾ fan if youre a Tampa Bay guy you can be danged proud of what this team has done to get here.

We dropped the first two and very easily could have went away softly in game 3……But they showed us they had no intentions of doing that in the 1st inning. Earned every bit of being in this game tonight & dangit let’s keep it rolling!!!

What is your definition of a diehard fan? You think we have more to complain about than those who witnessed the inaugural season? People are dumb to be upset about getting beat by a better team. Same fans who expected us to get destroyed by the Rams….I dont get being mad every week unless you expected us to go 16-0 it makes no sense. Diehard fans dont expect to lose every week, they are pathetic and should go root for Jacksonville. Sorry they aren’t immediately a playoff team, was that automatically the outcome of changing coaches like there would be no growing pains.

All we know is they are not in the same league as the saints but not as bad as the dolphins which really doesn’t say anything YET.

Danny Dimes? More like Diaper Dan. Lmao

But but but Diaper Dan is better than Jay Miss blah blah blah. Lmao

  21. ElioT Says:

F**k the Panthers and their new “leader” on defense. I’ll be Luke has something to say about that.

This is a winnable game, it’s quite simple.

    • Shut down McCaffery
    • Run straight at McCoy all game
    • Abuse their backup O-Lineman
    • Run straight at McCoy
    • No mistakes
    • Run straight at McCoy all day

    Bucs Win.

If they don’t we know who this team really is.

  22. ElioT Says:

McCaffery is in his prime right now and he’s all the Panthers have on offense aside from Olsen.

If McCaffery keeps his mileage going he’ll be done in a couple years.

Happens to the best of them.

    Not scared.

  23. ElioT Says:

I know Whitehead is foaming at the mouth to take a legal shot on Christian.

Barrett is foaming at the mouth to wreck those backup OTs.

McCoy is foaming at the mouth to get back home and play with his toys.

  26. Ndog Says:

So Tom Brady plays like trash tonight, throws a pick, has a fumble that is returned for a TD but do to a block punt for a TD and a fumble recovery for a TD they win so he is awesome right you freaking “but he doesn’t win games” morons?

With each passing day there is just more proof of how unbelievably clueless you all are.

  27. DB55 Says:

Tom Brady been playing chit for 3 weeks (trust me he’s my ff qb) and yet they’re undefeated. Maybe bc they have the #1 defense in the league you know the “new” “passing” league but wtfdik

Oh yea cmc is on steroids but he’ll never get tested but wtfdik

  28. Rod Munch Says:

It’s amazing how easy the Pats schedule is year after year. I do believe that Brady has played the easiest schedule in football since 2015. I mean they win when it matters, so it’s not a diss, you can only play who is on the schedule, but still…

    Steelers (1-4)
    Dolphins (0-4)
    Jets (0-4)
    Bills (4-1)
    Redskins (0-5)
    Giants (2-4)

The Bills lose their starting QB at the end of the game when they still very much had a chance to win. The other teams are all losers – and the Giants, as we know, should be heading to 1-5.

Panthers are not going to run against us, they are going to test our weak CBs. VHIII is a bust. M J Stewart is a bust. Need to give Bunting and Dean a shot at CB. Davis makes a good second CB but not a shutdown corner. Dean has the tools to be #1 but needs the experience and opportunity. I have no clue how good or poor Bunting will be but at this point, he is probably an upgrade over Stewart and VHIII.
