Devin White, Jamel Dean Return To Practice

October 2nd, 2019

Devin White

Two handpicked and heralded Bucs rookies were back on the practice field today, though they were limited, Bucco Bruce Arians announced this afternoon.

Devin White (knee) had been sidelined since wrenching his knee very early against Carolina 20 days ago. Dean has been nursing an ankle injury for about the same amount of time.

    GRRRREAT NEWS !!!!!!!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

They should be able to play at least a few snaps but I don’t count on them to be able to contribute that much…..hopefully, I am wrong….

  3. Clean House Says:

Better to get these guys completely healthy than to rush them back

  4. YoungBucs Says:

Get ready N’awlins buckle up them chin straps the Bucs are showing up with brass knuckles Sunday time for FIRST PLACE GO BUCS!!!

  5. BucEmUp Says:

Hooefully dean steps up and Todd Bowles snaps back into eeality and fugures out that his corners dont have to play in another zip code than the wr

“Better to get these guys completely healthy than to rush them back”

Agreed! Minter has played well in place of White.

I’m more excited about Ryan Smith based on what coaches were saying during the off-season. MJ Stewart is just too slow. SMB hasn’t looked very good either but he’s still a rookie so he gets a pass.

  7. Easy Says:

Minter shouldn’t come off the field as good as hes been playing.

  8. m0j0 Says:

This is great news! Can’t wait to see White flying in on blitzes and running sideline to sideline. Also, hope Smith moves outside in nickel and they move Hargreaves inside. That would be the best combo in my opinion based on skillset.

  9. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

I agree Minter played pretty good but we still let up 32 and 40 (technically the defense gave up 33) the last two weeks.

Let’s not pretend White is going to sit for Minter, that’s just crazy talk. The rook needs to take his lumps on the field and we could use his speed as well.

Dean was looking pretty good in preseason so hopefully he can continue to climb and maybe will take Hargreaves spot eventually, I’m hoping someone does. Slide Hargreaves into the slot where MJ is getting roasted half the time and put a big body out wide like Dean or SMB.

  10. Buc4evr Says:

Minter has played well, I bet White is going to have a problem pushing him out. What’s up with Evans and JPP?

  11. Eric Says:

white could be a big help this week with the way the Saints are playing, running game and short passing.

Time for some return from the high draft pick.

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

At this point I would consider White a liability. Minter has been outstanding and i wouldn’t take him off the field.

  13. ocala Says:

Minter has tackled well, but he has struggled in coverage. Devin White and his speed would be a big upgrade.

  14. Prague Bucs Fan Says:

    Good to hear, thanks Joes

  15. 813bucboi Says:

dean is not ready to start….lol….

name 1 #1 or #2 WR he went up against in PS?…..

make him earn it…..if he wants snaps on defense, make an impact on ST first…..

ryan smith is a different story…..he needs to replace MJ in the slot….

i hope TB doesnt take minter out…..he’s played great….White still has some learning to do…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  16. Buc Neckid Says:

    Y’all don’t get overly excited.
This years team looks like the kind that could beat ANYBODY one week
and then Lose to ANYBODY the next week.
They seem like they are too young to get a winning streak going and too young to care what we think.
    I myself am having Dungy-Years flashbacks…
and HOPE that this is the real deal
    GO BUCS!!!

  17. diggler Says:

haaaaaang on young buc DW you need to stay back and watch the game a little more dont want to see ya starting until week 10 at the earliest. Minter is a man-beast right now.

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

Good news! Even if they don’t contribute this week, at least we’ll have some depth.
Minter has played well, but I have to admit, I want to see the rookie and what he can do. Not to the detriment of the team, obviously, just interested in what he can do.

  19. Rayjay1122 Says:

I think Minter is playing better. He actually makes plays. White has done nothing other than get drafted with a premium 1st round pick. He will be fine but has a lot to learn but not at the expense of winning games now. Make him actually earn the starting role.

  20. Siege the Bay Says:

I hope the time off was good for White to see how Minter played his position. Sometimes its good to take a step back and observe. I wanna see him knocking kamara into the dirt.

  21. Pewter power Says:

LSU guy D White should be jacked up to play this game, bet he was ready to go last week but they didnt want to bring him back against the Rams.

  22. Defense Rules Says:

I have a gut feeling that Kevin Minter will start against New Orleans. Devin White was only limited participation & just can’t see Todd Bowles rushing him back into the lineup at this point. And especially with Kevin Minter playing well. Still, White adds a unique speed element in the middle of our defense that might be needed if Sean Payton calls up a lot of slants, etc. Big question in my mind though as to whether White’s speed is degraded at present due to not playing or practicing since Game 1.

  23. Defense Rules Says:

And RayJoy1122, the rookie only played ONE game … and it was his FIRST NFL game at that. Is that REALLY how you judge any player, much less a rookie? Once a player is drafted, it shouldn’t matter a hoot where they were drafted. Can they do the job, and do it well? If not … next man up.

  24. Bucnjim Says:

I think either way Minter has earned more playing time especially on early downs. This is a very good problem to have.

  25. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

So Devin White needs playing time to get better but the fans’ suggestion is to sit him?
    I’m glad y’all aren’t running this team.
The kid played one game sick and gets hurt the next. Last I remember, this defense didn’t start giving up points until week 3 when White was out.

  26. gilhealy Says:

    Good point, Alaskan.

  27. Lamarcus Says:

Ill play DW. He have to. Bucs fans said not to. They are always wrong like their mock drafts…. Polite Fl DE. 3 Rd round pick and out of the league???

  28. Rayjay1122 Says:

I know White only played one game. I also realize he is a rookie but Minter is playing better than white was and gives us a better chance of winning. I am not calling White a bust but I want the players who give us the best chance to win to start. Right now, IMO that is Minter. I have a right to my opinions just like you all. I served for that right for you and me.

  29. Dewey Selmon Says:

White will play, but as a backup and will gets reps. He will eventually retake his spot.

  30. Ptwalk Says:

White should definitely start if he’s fully healthy, he is better. Minter did a nice job but White has special potential. I think we’ll see a difference in this game, if he’s fully healthy.

  31. Clw JB Says:

Minter is okay -good vs the run, gets beat repeatedly in coverage – anyone want to look up what we have surrendered to the opposing TE’s this year?

I would much rather play the kid and let him take his lumps while learning

It wont take him long to catch up…right about the time JPP returns and we are pushing for that playoff spot

I made a shrine for JDean, praying he recovers and replaces VHIII ASAP

Agree with many of the posters here – VHIII to the slot, Dean outside –
    MJ SLOWARSE to the BENCH!

  32. adam from ny Says:

minter is BA’s guy…played for the cards…knows the system very very well, and is playing good ball too…he possibly even went to a pro bowl a few years back under BA as a cardinal if i’m correct…
he should probably get the start as they start to sprinkle in DW…DW has looked a bit lost out there at times, kinda like SMB…

    the interesting thing is:

do you put devin white in as a full time spy on kamara?…because kamara is worthy of having a spy on him…derrick brooks style…because if you completely shut down kamara we can simply outscore this team in their own dome…

    Minter vs DW (the spy)

  33. Asdf Says:

People talking about Devin after 1 game?!?! 1 GAME. And he was sick….

Jesus people. Some Skip Bayless level takes here….

  34. Dan Says:

Please keep Minter our there. I’ve seen enough of White for a while. He’s a downgrade from Kwon.

  35. BucEmUp Says:

I would rotate minter and white this week early and go with the hot hand.Cant lose this game..I personally LOVE this schedule the nfl dealt the bucs.Gets them.out of their comfort zone and away from the Tampa night life and strip clubs.

Bring it back home.for the final stretch with some cooler weather boys!!! GO BUCS!!!

  36. DB55 Says:

I guess I’m not the only one who would rather start minter over white?

I’m not calling him a bust I just think he needs more time to learn and minter is playing lights out. Why change thing up when the front 7 is dominating?

  37. Costa Rica John Says:

White had two tackles against Carolina and got hurt very early in that game. He’s going to be the starter as soon as he is healthy. I have faith he’s going to pick everything up quickly. He will be an all pro within 2 years.

  38. Buczilla Says:

I’m still smiling after Sunday’s win so the fact (thus far) that we wasted the number 5 pick on a gosh darned middle linebacker isn’t bothering me nearly as much. I’m hoping White becomes the next Nickerson, but at this point I’d be happy for some positive plays from him. Dean has the talent and nothing really kept him from missing playing time the last couple of years until now. That said, he does have a history of injuries and I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.

  39. Jean Lafitte Says:

more speed is never a bad thing

  40. adam from ny Says:

just have minter drink adderall flavored gatorade all game and “everything’s gonna be alright”

    🙂
