Arians: This One All Came Down To Third Down

October 6th, 2019

Byron Leftwich’s boss is not happy

Bucco Bruce Arians pointed a finger at his offense — and his playcaller — after today’s humbling loss to the Saints.

The Bucs were dominated in New Orleans, despite the 31-24 final score. It wasn’t that close.

Arians was focused on his offense’s shortcomings on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“This one all came down to third down,” Arian said of the Bucs converting 3-of-11 opportunities on the money down.

“We didn’t have the ball possessed enough,” Arians said. “We didn’t possess the ball enough because of third down.”

The Bucs had consecutive 3-and-out possessions in the first half, which is very rare for them, and they only had 21 first-half snaps on offense. That’s not good when your defense is regularly giving up the booty through the air.

Arians also pointed a finger at his offensive coordinator, Byron Leftwich, without naming him. Arians said coaches failed Mike Evans and the offense for not moving Evans around enough to get him involved. Evans had his first catch-free game in four years.

Well that and the fact the defense couldn’t defend the pass what so ever

  2. Ndog Says:

The issue with this offense is the only players on this roster that get open constantly are Godwin and Brate the rest can’t get separation.

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

and Jameis wasn’t making the quick decisions this game like he did in LA

  4. Lamarcus Says:

WRs need to more separation. Seems Saints man coverage is something we need on our side

  5. 813bucboi Says:

Let’s trade for lattimore since he can lock down #1 WRs with no pass rush and no safety help…..

    That’ll solve everything

  7. ChanEpic Says:

VHIII is playing like trash. He is a liability.

  8. Lamarcus Says:

They wasn’t going to get embarrassed like the Rams. Saints were tight all game. Shut us down

  9. Bucs14 Says:

Let’s face it. Licht isn’t going anywhere. The Glazier boys would actually have to care to fire him, and I don’t think they care. I do look for Bucco Bruce to retire at end of season citing health as his cover to get out of this organization. Jaymiss Magoo will be back cause Glaziers know all the Winston nut huggers out there believe Magoo will one day become a HoF QB. This organization is a losing organization. They do not know how to win, and I don’t think they really care as long as the organization is profitable.

    What about the secondary?
    What about the miss tackles?
    What about sacks diferential?
    What about OL?
Every week is the same story !! We Win we are great we lose new suck.
The truth is se are mediocre at best!!
Not a hater by any mean, just common sense!!

  11. DB55 Says:

WiNsToN is slow, needs to get rid of the ball in .02 seconds that why he took 6 sacks. Not the o lines fault when the QBs holds the ball for 2 seconds I mean what does he think this is a professional football roster? He truly is a dumb ignorant poor decision making thug on and off the court.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

I never knew why Eli Apple was drafted ahead of VH3 but it’s apparent. Apple is light years better than him

  13. Bucfan1988 Says:

    1) Bowles play-calling in 1st half was ULTRA-conservative for him. No blitzing…only rushing 4..Too much time given to Bridgewater to make throws.

    2) PATHETIC F’N JOKE of officiating with the fumble that 82 OBVIOUSLY recovered and the OBVIOUS offensive PI call on Saints WR, Michael Thomas.Definition of momentum killers.

    3) Leftwich got out coached by Saints D-Coordinator. Lack of getting OJ Howard involves, and not moving Evans more in the slot.

    4) Demar Dotson is DONE! Please pull him as he will get Jameis killed.

    5) Failure to start ROJO now as he has made his skill set quite apparent.

    6) Please DUMP VH3. HORRIBLE outside corner. All the big plays today happened against him…Mostly by Michael Thomas.

    7) Lastly to ALL Bucs corners that are playing press coverage on the LOS…
You ARE allowed to “chuck” and be physical with WR’s off the line up to 5 yards as long as you don’t hold them. Here’s a CRAZY idea, perhaps they should put on their big boy pants and quit allowing receivers to dictate the route. Otherwise, WHY PRESS??? Duhhhhhhh 😖😖😖!!!

    No….

He just has a pass rush

VHIII should return his game pay. Veteran hot garbage. Did he do well on the Wonderlic? I’m not seeing evidence of intelligent life in our seconday. Rooks are rooks, but Vernon should play like he has some veteran skill. Not seeing that at all. How about Arians posting those accountability sheets? Would love to highlight the repeat offenders on that sh!tsheet and I’m confident that VHIII would feature prominently.

  18. DB55 Says:

I’m dramatic. Nothing more than a reflection of how idiotic you people sound.

The Bucs aren’t very good. There, I said it.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

All 31 points were scored on VHG….LOL….

all 31 points were scored with teddy under heavy pressure the entire game….lol…

  21. DB55 Says:

Look if your qb can’t score more than 32 points EVERY SINGLE week to win a game then I guess he’s just a bust and it’s time to move on.

Simple! Jay miss MUST score at MINIMUM 32 ppg to compete. If he can’t do it find someone else who can and will EVERY SINGLE WEEK.

  22. Tye Says:

well, the Bucs are usually good 1 game a year per season… Last week was it..
Any given Sunday ‘phenomenon’ just benefited the Bucs last Sunday..

fortunate 2 different JW ints were erased by Saints penalties and 2 others dropped and his fumble was recovered by the Bucs…

Expecting the Panthers to be a much tougher game next week then the last time they played!
1 thing we can count on the Bucs to be consistent at: not able to play back to back successful games!

  23. 813bucboi Says:

    DB55

    I get it….

If VHG can’t get 10 picks every game without a pass rush, then just trade him for lattimore who can….

    GO BUCS

  24. Bucs911 Says:

DB I feel your saracasm, but your statement is true in a way. With this Defense he really does have to score 32 ppg in order for this team to be competitive.

  25. DB55 Says:

    911

    Sadly it wasn’t sarcasm.

    813
See Dante Jackson who we let pass for MJ Stewart who is the only cb in the league worse than vh3. Vh3 literally had 12 tackles in Carolina. 12. And cam couldn’t hit the side of a barn but vh3 man was so wide open he managed to complete passes to only them. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    DB55

And JW was soooo much better that game…..lol…

See teddy….can we get a QB that throws the ball quick like that….

    GO BUCS

  27. Jean Lafitte Says:

17 points no matter how you got them ain’t enough. With the pansy new rules defenses are being nuetered. So now it’s up to the offenses take advantage of the new rules. Score or get left behind. We weren’t scoring. There may be many reasons why, but Jameis does touch the ball 100% of the time. He was slow today. How do you protect an offensive line? Get the ball out quickly. 6 sacks? None were because of Jameis? I think we got the other Jameis this week. JMO

  28. Tye Says:

813: hopefully the answer is yes and as soon as this upcoming draft!

  29. Jason Says:

    I’m confused.

YOUR THE HEAD COACH. TELL YOUR DAMN ASSISTANTS TO MOVE EVANS AROUND. YOUR THE HEAD COACH , SO COACH. IF YOU WANT TO JUST WATCH THE GAME BUY A TICKET!!!

The stinking Panthers will use the Saints blueprint to send us home with a loss.

  31. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Jason

Agree 100%.. Yank the play card out of BL’s hand and take his headset away from him, then call the damn plays yourself.

So tired of the Bucs being the triple A NFL affiliate, the OJT facility.

  32. orlbucfan Says:

How about we keep a head coach longer than one season? Mebbe Arians is fitting the bill. 2-3 is not the end of the season.

  33. BucEmUp Says:

This is exactly what I was afraid of. When the defense wasnt prepared for Sean Payton the offense needed to be preparrred to take what the defense gave them and stay on the field. Called it this week that our offense would spend the entire game trying to force the ball down field 15 yard chunk.plays rather than taking the short dink and dunk.plays getting YAC.Not sure why Jones was taken out of the game in numerous occasions for Barber and Obnumbawanabwawawaeea when Jones was clearly the best back by far in ALL PHASES INCLUDING PASS CATCHING!!!!!

I was afraid better blitzing and better pass rush would back Jameis into a corner today and our “OC” couldnt adjust because he believes that excecution reigns victorious above scheme in all sutautions.

Despite horrible officiating and Bowles still refusing to play corners in bump and run cocerage this was still a winnable game had the offensive playcalling been better.

My biggest headache though was with two tumeouts and 32 seconds left why Bruce didnt go no huddle and try to get into field goal range down with a kicker capable of potentially kicking a 65-70 yard field goal.

Bucs were out coached today and I hope Bruce takes over soon. Its clear the rams are not the juggernauts everyone thought they were and leftwich is not tge answer for playcalling.Coaching lost this game.

  34. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“Didn’t we have the best pass catching TE tandem?

    1 target each?

BA said his scheme utilizes Tight Ends? BS

He is in a rush getting a 150lb 5’6 boyband targets

The game has passed him by

The game is about short passing and getting the ball out

The QB OC intern has no business calling plays

The blueprint to expose the incompetent coaching staff is set

    Bloodshed cometh”

    Son of Kobe Faker

  35. FireJasonLicht Says:

WELL THAN TAKE OVER THE F-ING PLAYCALLING DONT ITS THE REASON WHY WE F-ING BROUGHT YOU HERE YOU F-ING IDIOT!!! NOBODY IS PAYING TO SEE BYRON GUMPS OFFENSE ANYWAYS!!

  36. Eyes wide ooen Says:

VHIII – let’s see, short & slow. Just what I’d pick in the 1st round in a league full of tall, fast receivers. Huh?

  37. jim Says:

if he knows the play-calling isn’t working, it’s his job to correct during the game; not call-it out afterwords. agree w posers above, HE IS THE HEAD COACH make the in-game decisions: be the role model for the OC …. change the gameplan during the game, adjust.
