A Rebirth For Vernon Hargreaves?

October 14th, 2019

Punt return?

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Bucs cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.

Hargreaves is starting to challenge Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, for the most hated man in Tampa Bay distinction.

In fact, the only place embattled Hargreaves is gaining popularity is within the fraternity of NFL offensive coordinators. They throw the ball enough to him to make him popular.

In Bucco Bruce Arians’ day-after presser this afternoon, the subject of punt returner Bobo Wilson came up. Arians wasn’t so much upset about Bobo’s boo-boos but Arians seems fed up enough with Bobo’s minuscule return yards that Arians is seriously considering punting the “fearless” Bobo for another return man.

And who could that be? Arians brought up Hargreaves as a potential candidate.

Now Joe remembers seeing Hargreaves return punts in underwear football practices inside the Glazer Shed. Since it was underwear football, there really was no way to determine if Hargreaves is a threat to house a punt or not. And Hargreaves returned a few punts during the Dirk Koetter regime.

Hargreaves’ arrow at this point in the 2019 season is pointing down. Perhaps being able to make opponents pay on punt returns will be his ticket to football salvation?

LOL nah. He needs to focus on his primary position, not take on more of a load. LOL HELLLL NAH!

  2. Lamarcus Says:

He can’t cover punts either. He can’t cover his own skin. Vh3 is the weakest corner I ever seen and be the main reason 2019 season is in the trash. GET RID OF HIM

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Punt returns…..we simply don’t have enough of them…..we do need to catch the ball though….

  4. tmaxcon Says:

this is hilarious. he’s good at chasing receivers into the endzone we know that… this guy should be bagging grocerys and washing 813bucbois car not on a nfl roster.

this circus is at least entertaining if nothing else. damn sure not a professional sports franchise.

  5. Troy Says:

    I though VH3 had a ball allergy.

  6. BUC CHEEKS Says:

This is a joke ya??? This bum should be cleaning out his locker. Pathetic.

  7. Jmarkbuc Says:

Dude couldn’t cover a baby with a blanket…and he falls down when someone runs toward him..

Put him on the street. Send a message. Accountability.

  8. 941bucsfan Says:

We cant stop anyone. And BA is worried about a damn punt returner. What an embarrassing coaching staff. 2,791 coaches and none of them have a clue on whats going on. Starting with the Owners, GM, and BA

  9. MadMax Says:

Nope. Done. Nope adios! waste of a 1st pick….in the line of many it seems.

  10. tmaxcon Says:

If Bucs had any compassion they would just put the little fella out of his misery….

  11. ElioT Says:

Cool then Licht could a first round punt returner to his draft resume.

    #lichtmyb**ls

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Don’t they have to trade or cut him so he doesn’t get hurt? So we don’t owe him nothing next year?

I can sorta half understand if they try to give him the bye week to try and rebound. If they do that the leash deserves to be short….Like 1st quarter short.

Seems obvisous right now. This guy is absolutely not the future at the CB position for this team. I don’t hate the guy. He just sucks.

  13. Dewey Selmon Says:

    Rebirth? More like an abortion.

  14. MadMax Says:

eh, move on….going back to his posh life not even caring….LAST IN THE LEAGUE IN PASS DEFENSE!!!!!

    FU vh, seriously fu man.

  15. Larry Says:

As bad s it was, to lose by only 11 points, after Winston turned the ball over 6 times, it wasn’t that bad. It could have been, and should have been, much, much more. 6 turnovers could have been 42 points or at the least 18 points. The Bucs lost by 11 points. Take Winston’s give away’s out of the equation and they win the game. Can you believe it??? Winston needs to go. 5 years in the NFL and this is what we get. Time to move on. Winston is too up and down. Great one game super bad in another. Name me one other NFL QB with that stat. They never have that!!! If they do the are a backup somewhere. The 5 year experiment is over!!! Let the backup have his turn. It can’t get much worse!

It was not bad if you are a ringmaster of a circus…. score is irrelevant don’t let that fool you… that was one of the most embarrassing performance in this pathetic franchises history. From coaching to players it was a embarrassing. licht has built a legendary basement contender.

  24. NPRSageBoy Says:

Enough already!!! Best use of VH3 is as an example of what happens to high draft picks who are busts; release him and move on.

Enough is enough. Let JayMiss know who is next.

    Burn, baby, burn!!!

  25. unbelievable Says:

But you guys, VH3 has not allowed EVERY single touchdown, therefore he’s not the problem…

That’s what 813 keeps telling me.

5.6 receptions allowed per game average – good for 68th best in the league
9.8 yards allowed per target – good for 76th best in the league
86 total yards per game allowed – good for 75th best in the league

But hey, a whopping 2 passes defended all season!

  26. Jmarkbuc Says:

    LUVMYBUCS

    You out there?

How much total dead money counts against our cap…If you cut a player with guaranteed money, does a percentage count against the cap?

I know you would know, thanks in advance.

  27. Noles Says:

VH3 covers WR’a soft what makes him think he has the stones to return punts. Not only can he NOT PLAY CB, he may he the worst CB taking in RD 1 in recent memory. He is BEYOND SOFT…. move over Mc Icecream

  28. 813bucboi Says:

    unbelievable

outside of shaq, who else has sacks and how many?…..

2 PBs and 1pick 6 by VHG but tell me how many PBs and picks does carlton davis have?…what are his receptions allowed per game average?yards allowed per target?

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  29. 813bucboi Says:

VHG hasnt lived up to his 1st round bill but neither has JW…..

and VHG caught punts under dirk….

  31. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

I’ll grab some popcorn to watch VH3 attempt to field punts!!

  32. NPRSageBoy Says:

Who gives a rat’s arse about dead cap money? That’s the price you pay to get out of salary cap Hell.

If Lost was about a football team, that team would be the Bucs.

Dead men trying to get to the Afterlife. Many of them millionaires who fleeced the Glazers.

    Let it burn!!!!

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

    Jmark-
“Dude couldn’t cover a baby with a blanket…and he falls down when someone runs toward him..”

The “slip” to me was the most embarrassing moment of this game, bar none. He wasn’t the only one, but wow!

  34. John F Ensch Says:

I’m nominating Bruce Arians for High School coach of the week. As if this Bucs team could actually beat a High School team. There is one stat that all you sports writers continue to miss through out the NFL season. You ask, what could that possibly be? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their coaches lead the league in the stat of “excuses”. The Bucs are actually the all time leaders in this stat. Way to go Bucs you finally lead the NFL in something.

  35. knucknbuc Says:

what a first round pick by the ac/dc playing blah blah blah jason licht. a maybe punt returner as your first round pick from 3 years ago…because we all know he cant play cornerback right?? ryan smith came back last week and has made as many plays as vern playing in 6. thats laughable thanks jason. who woulda thunk that a small slow corner wouldve been a bad pick in the first round. who can tell me that ryan smith isnt better at corner then vh3 any takers?? @joe?? buehller?

  36. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Fanman

The fact that he “slipped” or “fell” BACKWARDS is what gets me..

When you tackle or attempt to tackle, you’re moving forward, not back on your heels.

This guy should be working at Best Buy..he is not an NFL player. In fact he may be the worst NFL player on team full of really bad ones.

  37. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe

how about having your graphic artist at joebucfan world headquarters put her bud light down and make a collage of vhs3bust slip and crash over-layered with Whites embarrassing stiff arm. bucs created 2 poster historical moments….

  38. OBP Says:

If anyone should be returned punts for us he should either be Scotty Miller or Jamel Dean, those 2 are 2 of the fastest players on this team and would be a HUGE upgrade over bungling Bobo.

  39. tmaxcon Says:

    813

other corners don’t get nearly the pick opportunities it’s too easy for the qb to pick on your failed hero all day long…. stats are irrelevant. unless you are blind or related to the little fella you can see he is not nfl caliber cb. convenience store assistant manager is most likely vh3busts ceiling.

There have actually been a few CBs who failed at their position in the NFL, only to succeed at returns.

Not saying that would be him, but just that stranger things have happened.

  42. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Hahahahaha!!!!!! I still can’t get over this pick!!! Couldn’t then and sure as F can’t now! Ok enough of this BS ✌️OUT

  43. Bradinator Says:

Quick does anybody have Karl “The Truth” Williams phone number? If he’s in shape, he’s still better than anyone we got on the roster. According to Arians no one can beat out the guy that fumbled two punts and has a 3.3 yrd return avg.

  44. Bradinator Says:

BTW does anybody know what TJ Logan does on this team besides standing in the end zone to let everyone know he’s not returning the kickoff. He’s more like one those construction guys with the “slow” sign. Maybe an extra OL would be more useful for a roster spot.

  45. Jmarkbuc Says:

    NPR

Getting out of cap hell is precisely what I’m getting at. If you have a ton of dead money counting against the cap, that makes it that much harder. I’m sure LUV could tell us who/how many we could cut and how much space that gives us for the rebuild.

A rebuild is coming or it’s five more years of this crap and then a rebuild.

  46. 813bucboi Says:

    tmax

even as a store manager, VHG will still have more skills than you…..lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

I find this current focus on VH3 interesting……although it is interesting and mostly accurate to say that VH3 isn’t performing as a #1 corner….it’s not new.

I find it to be a major distraction from the giant Elephant in the room wearing #3.

  48. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Tbbf

There’s just no more beating that dead elephant…we’re stuck there for the time being. We don’t have 11 QB’s.

We do have enough DB’s to move on from Vern, though.

  49. Lamarcus Says:

My focus is on Vh3 because that’s what’s the opposite teams do and with much success. Go ahead let’s bring in an All world Qb and watch what happens

    exactly!!!!!!!

    deflect the attention……

VHG wasnt played like a #1 CB but the QB we drafted at #1 hasnt played like a #1 overall pick thats in his 5th year and 3rd HC….

    vhg is a bust…..but

JW IS AN EVEN BIGGER BUST!!!!

Bad JW is still better than half the league so I’m not worried at all. I’m worrying about the secondary playing poorly with no hope

    813

So would I. He made plays yesterday.

  56. wideleftandright Says:

BAD JW is slightly worse than good JW…..

  60. DB55 Says:

    813

I get it. The empty insults are cool but you can’t name anyone who has played better behind this oline. Idk how hard it is to understand that without a RT or RG you’re going to play poorly.

Fumble #2 was all on Jameis the rest are up for debate.

  61. Go Bucs 72 Says:

How about we get a birth before we start talking about a rebirth, being small and slow aren’t the best attributes for a CB1.

  62. Buccfan37 Says:

Hargreaves couldn’t do much worse than the current punt returner. I thought I saw White make a tackle for loss in that game.

  63. Stevebobucsfan Says:

At least Arians seem to be calling out Winston and other players, I am waiting to see what’s Arians next move is. I have confidence Arians is gonna make this team respectable I am not sure Jameis or Hardgraves are gonna be part of it though. I love Jameis and wanted him to succeed but after almost 6 seasons I have lost confidence in him. Hope he proves me wrong As for Hardgraves I just haven’t seen a lot from him accepted the teams we have played has went after him each game

  64. Nptbuc Says:

Go with Scotty Miller. As I said on another post, he ( supposedly) has the speed to bust one. May as well try him there. There won’t be anyone contesting his catch anyway. Worth a try there. WR isn’t working worth a squat spit with him. A sure way to at least get the ball in his hands and see what he’s got.Hargraves has proved he is slow. Give the ball to a (supposed) burner! HAS to be better than Bobo. Go for it!

  65. Nptbuc Says:

Bradinator. Right on the button. Made the same argument in a previous post. We came up with some extra money to sign Logan to watch balls soar over his head. One of the cheerleaders could fill that gig for a couple hundred a game. Why pay for nothing when we could have bought a lineman- either side of the line for the same money? It obviously meant something to somebody. Most under utilized position on the roster.

  66. Buccos Says:

Why don’t we compare Devin White to Devin Bush of the Steelers. Drafted much later in the 1st round. Already a Superstar !

  67. TDTB Says:

Why would you invest reps at punt returner with a guy who ism’t/shouldn’t be here next year. Now is the time to see who has promise for next season. That includes the back up QB who has never had a regular season snap. Let’s get good film on the whole roster and enter the draft and free agency with a f-ing cohesive plan for a change.

  68. unbelievable Says:

    @813

Shaq Barrett has as many PDs as VH3 lol. It’s pathetic for how much he gets thrown on. Meanwhile you’re entire argument has resorted to saying well Jameis is a bust. And what if he is? That doesn’t somehow make VH3 good. He sucks. Plain and simple.

But here’s the comparison to Davis (who has only 1 year of experience, and was drafted at the end of the 2nd round vs. #11 overall), since you asked:

    Receptions allowed:
    VH3 – 5.6/g (28 total) vs. 4.2/g (21 total) for CD
So only 33% more receptions allowed from our 1st rounder

    Yards allowed:
    VH3 – 86.4/g (432 total) vs. 49/g (245 total) for CD
So he’s only averaging giving up 75% more yards per game compared to Davis

    Yards allowed per reception:
    VH3 – 15.4 (ranked 64th in the league) vs. 11.7 for CD (ranked 11th)
So he’s only averaging giving up 30% more yards per reception compared to Davis

    TDs allowed:
    VH3 – 3 TDs (ranked #65) vs. 0 TDs for Davis (tied for #1)

But yeah, they both only have 2 passes defended, so they’re totally the same caliber of player

    :: rolls eyes ::

  69. DalvinCookRules Says:

It is very strange to me how a guy as physically talented as VH3, a guy who was fearless in college, plays so unsure of himself in the NFL.

It’s like, he finally realizes everyone on the field is just as athletic, if not more so, than he is and that terrifies him. He is a perfect example of someone who is too mentally weak for the NFL. UP YOUR GAME BRUH, or get out of the League.

  70. unbelievable Says:

Well to be fair, he got abused in college too when he went up against elite, NFL-caliber receivers…
