Not Enough Greatness

Better QB?

Man, this is Kick Jameis When Jameis Is Down Week.

There is more to this narrative but America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is just getting torched on national TV and radio sports shows. Joe means hammered!

Just about everyone knew Jameis had to step up his game this season to get the massive new contract that top-shelf quarterbacks get. The Bucs even changed coaching staffs, in part, to try to get Jameis to that next level. One could argue no team has a better staff of quarterback coaches.

And in Week 1 of a very important season for Jameis and the Bucs, with the football world watching closely, Jameis goes out and lays a brontosaurus-sized egg. It was ugly.

Even many of Jameis’ strongest supporters shook their heads in disappointment. Some even suggested it is time for the Bucs to start scouting quarterbacks for the upcoming quarterback-top-heavy draft.

And of course, Jameis haters are having a jubilee.

In the past, former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe has somewhat defended Jameis. He didn’t make excuses for him but thought he had the tools to be great. No more.

In an episode of “The Undisputed,” seen weekday mornings on FS1, Sharpe was asked who he would take, Jameis or pouty Cam Newton? Sharpe said no question, it would be Newton.

Why? In part, Sharpe said he has seen greatness from Newton. He has not seen that from Jameis.

You can watch the full discussion between Sharpe and Skip Bayless in the FS1 video below.

    Horse face is right.
    Deal with it nut huggers.

  2. BetterBucFan Says:

I mean come on is anyone saying Jameis is better than Cam? Cam Newton, who won MVP and took his team to the super bowl? Jameis, who has only had one (1) winning season?

  3. ClodHopper Says:

The only thing Jameis beats Cam in is personality. I’ll give to Jameis, he’s extremely likable IMO and Cam is a giant selfish whiny turd.

  4. Buc believer Says:

I supported Jameis WITHOUT question up until Sunday. It IS time to move on. Damn I am SO sick and tired of hearing the same garbage tear in and year out…. “be patient these things take time, we just need more practice time, we will start to gel! I am calling it all BS!!! Win NOW dammit!

  5. Hodad Says:

America’s QB pro bowler Jameis Winston. Come on Joe, that title is getting as old as all of his turnovers. As far as which QB I’d rather have? None of the above. Right now both are playing like garbage. Cam will get Rivera fired, and Jameis will get BA retired!

  6. Aceofaerospace Says:

I’d take Johnny Manzel over Jameis Winston right now.

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Cam 100%

  8. miken Says:

I don’t understand why Shannon Sharpe would say this! Jameis leads the league in fumbles, ints and bone head plays because of The Defense I thought?

  9. Pittsshore Says:

You are not going to get support from experts when he sucks in the field and is an outcast to society off the field. Stop with your BS excuses in an attempt to prop up the ignorant JW. His excuses have run out and now it is time for him to get run out of town.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I’m with Buc Believer…..supported him until Sunday…

I still support him because I’m a Buc Fan…….but I am disappointed and very concerned…..he is not getting better as he claims he needs to do every week…
“I just need to get better”….

He needs to light it up and I mean immediately….

If this continues, I’d be in favor of letting RG4 have a shot.

It took you five years to figure this out????????

  13. Blue-footed booby Says:

Maybe the Winston defenders on this site should spend time looking around the internet at other NFL teams fan bases websites to see what they think of Jameis. From what I’ve seen, other NFL fans outside Tampa Bay have a very negative opinion of Winston.

But here on JBF the Winston defenders here would argue that he’s a great quarterback who’s going to go on to succeed elsewhere in the NFL if he leaves Tampa. However, for him to do that, another team would have to actually give him a chance at the starting job and quite frankly I just don’t see that happening.

There’s only been like 2 cases of a team dumping a quarterback and them getting another chance in free agency as a starting QB and succeeding elsewhere since 2000 (that I can recall), which are Peyton Manning in 2012 and Drew Brees in 2006. But Manning of course had plenty of success in Indianapolis while Brees finally starting playing well after San Diego drafted Rivers in 2004. In Winston’s case, he has neither the success those two guys had prior to hitting free agency.

  14. Kalind Says:

Count me as one of the ones that have turned on Jaboo. I wanted him to pull it off, but I’m just tired of the promise and the bad to mediocre play of the whole team. I think you keep about 9 players. And I’d flip the rest of the roster for draft picks.

Evans, Godwin, RoJo, Howard, Marpet, Vea, Edwards, SMB, Dean, and MAYBE Devon White, unless you can get a first rd pick, in which case you take the pick and start over.

  15. Bruce Blahak Says:

It’s the same thing AGAIN, for 5 years. Nothing more needs to be seen. He’s doing the same f**king things he did 4 years ago. The “JOES” are culprit #1 in supporting this sh*t show. He will never be “Americas QB”. How about “Americas Backup QB”….that’s how this story ends.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    CAM>jw

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  17. EEK Says:

Winston may actually be a decent back up — with another team of course.

He has shown that he is too inconsistent from series to series and play to play and game to game to be a franchise starting qb.

  18. Adrnagy Says:

Lol … the Bucs don’t give up on their draft pick that easily. Haven’t you guys realize that. Jason Licht will stick to his picks for years even if the coaching staff disagrees or the player doesn’t perform consistently.

Enjoy the ride and cheer for them bucs! I’m still positive about this team turning the culture around. It could of been Sunday. Bucs have had a bad team overall and front office for a long time.

  19. Lamarcus Says:

    JW > Cam… I mean Fig

  20. Coburn Says:

EEK might be on to something. . Jameis is basically Fitzpatrick.. make him a backup and change his name to Fitzjameis. He will have a couple really good games and you wll think here we go.. and then he comes down to earth and you remember why he’s a backup

  21. AllhailJPP Says:

I CANNOT wait to read this site tomorrow when he throws 2 picks and fumbles once

  22. JimmyJack Says:

I am still ticked off at Winston for losing us that game Sunday. But it is too early to write him off. There is defientally enough games left in the season for him to turn it around. It may not seem likely at this point but sports can be wildly unpredictable so I’ll give him a punchers chance.

The biggest hurdle I see is consistency. He has not shown that he is capable of it. A few good games will be flushed down the toilet if he throws another clunker like he just did. I’ll be rooting for him tonight but my confidence in the kid is completely shattered.

  23. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

    Mark it

  24. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

Count me in as a big Jaboo supporter. I didn’t think any of those picks were his fault. I saw 3 TD tosses, two of them were masterful.

That TD to Godwin was fantastic.

The 2nd TD to Brate reminded me of Joe Montana’s toss to Dwight Clark that made NFL history only it was better. Better catch and footwork. A shame that it was erased by penalty.

I watched Cam Newton against the Rams and he is not the QB he once was. He was badly overthrowing wide open receivers on the sideline and someone has clipped his wings as a runner.

If the Bucs double team MaCafferty with White and a safety, Bucs win easily.

Tomorrow nobody will be discussing Winston except in positive terms.

    Winning is the best deodorant.

  25. Pittsshore Says:

Vegas has him at 2.5 turnovers.

  26. MadMax Says:

Yep! And we need to draft Jake Fromm!!!

  27. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Both QB’s are questionable as faces of their franchises in my opinion, but I hate to admit I’d probably take Cam over Jameis too at this point. Can we please just trade Oakland Jameis and our 3rd and 5th round picks for Carr? Give that guy the supporting cast Winston has, and he’d likely be the 3rd or possibly even 2nd best QB in the “NFC NASCAR” division.

  28. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Jameis has never played consistently well or even good for a stretch of games

Hell hes never thrown 3 TDs in back to back games!!!! He’s the only qb drafted since 2015 to play at least 20 games and not do that!!!

The only people who think he’s good are FSU fans and his family

  29. BucsFan727 Says:

Facts though. Its your last chance bud. Lets get it rolling here tonight on Primetime. And Cam has a noddle arm. He wont last the season

  30. Defense Rules Says:

You’re right Joe, Jameis is getting ‘hammered’ since Sunday. And rightfully so. All we’ve heard for 4 years now, from you and lots of others, is “Oh, if only Jameis had a decent defense. If only he had a running game. If only he had a kicker”. Well Sunday he had all three and guess what … he pooped his pants. It was ‘ugly’ just like you said. There’s no putting lipstick on that hog this time to pretty it up … it was ugly. No more GMC to kick around. No more Cairo Santos (who went 3-for-3 for the Titans BTW including a 53-yarder). Even Jacquizz Rodgers isn’t available to throw under the bus. Nope, Jameis stands alone this time, out of excuses.

But he’s not beyond redemption, although that just got a whole lot harder. He’s got the skills to be a quality NFL QB, he just needs to get his head back on straight. I don’t know where it was Sunday, but it didn’t look to be on that football field. I lost a lot of enthusiasm for Byron Leftwich Sunday too, and I hope that BA steps in and sorts this mess out before we get too far into the season. Hard to change a culture of losing when your offense plays games like that.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Defense Rules. Good summary of the situation. Agreed except for maybe with Byron. You connot playcalling your way out of that nonsense.

Never had too big a problem with the Winston nugglers supporting him but after Sundays game they are now reduced to blaming the OL. It’s now certain that they are not defending him at all. They are making excuses.

I say it’s time to hold our QB to the standards of a professional QB. He did not meet them standards Sunday and to say otherwise is flat out wrong. Let’s hope he gets his crap together tonight.

  32. Buccfan37 Says:

Winston will play better tonight, how could he not, he will.

  33. Jmarkbuc Says:

    DR

Not a lot to disagree with in your post…but this part

“But he’s not beyond redemption, although that just got a whole lot harder. “

If I had the time, I bet I could go back and find a post of yours from last year that says the same thing, and that’s the rub isn’t it?

  34. BigMacAttack Says:

    Darren Sharper chose Jameis 😂

  35. mark2001 Says:

So what? It is true. Time to prove them wrong…or wear it.
