Shaq: Giants Didn’t Adjust But Others Will

September 24th, 2019

Underestimated

According to the NFL’s leading sack artist, the New York Giants watched him record three sacks for the Bucs against the Panthers and didn’t think he was a lethal pass rusher.

They were wrong.

Thank you, Giants! Bucs Linebacker Shaq Barrett had four sacks against New York on Sunday and now has eight through three games.

Per Barrett’s chat on the Buccaneers.com yesterday, he was in disbelief when he saw the Giants treat him like just another pass rusher — over and over.

“I was looking. I was surprised myself. I’m like, ‘Y’all going to make the running back go out and have an empty formation right now. Alright. It’s motivating me to go harder now,'” Barrett said of the Giants not adjusting.

Barrett said he hopes teams continue to put him in 1-on-1 situations but he expects that to change in a hurry.

“I know it’s going to come eventually, though. I’m ready for it,” Barrett said. “That’s why we got guys on the inside. We got guys on the other side. So everybody’s going to be ready to step up, make the plays when it’s their time.”

This will be fun to keep an eye on when the Bucs play the Rams in Los Angeles on Sunday. Powerful veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth, who will make his 199th career start, isn’t a guy who usually needs a lot of help shutting down pass rushers.

Extraordinary performance so far in 3 games. We will make another millonaire , and we will keep on having INDIVIDUAL outstanding performances…
This is a TEAM game, sooner or later our management has to understand it, on the meantime we will suffer this disgusting losses, watch a few great players, but keep on losing……

He’s going to continue to see single blocks because of Man-Child-Beast Vita Vea in the middle in the

Shaq has been a rare bright spot on a putrid team. If They can go 4-2 into the bye week then I will change my attitude towards them and I will also be more convinced than ever that the CITS is a cursed stadium.

Bucs will upset the Rams !…OK my disease is back !

  6. Lamarcus Says:

Can he play corner? We need corners. Get rid of VH3 and bench Davis.

  7. Adrnagy Says:

Let the season play out. Give credit to vea and suh. Before signing extension.
And if extending him give him a 2-3yr deal.

I never liked the Hargreaves pick. We need a stud. Physical corner. Davis is to dumb he has like two penalties each game. Bring in Eric berry for a veteran presence in the backfield even if don’t start. Use the $3M left.

Not with the adjustments this coaching staff makes, I am guessing that he continues on this torrid pace. I was told its coaching and that the new defense plays right into toast hargreaves skill set….they are still playing zone. Maybe mike smith realized that this team cannot play press man and that jason licht drafts a bunch of stiffs…5-11

  9. Bobby Says:

Hargreaves is going to be fine.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I agree that teams will have a “huge” problem with Vita Vea if they double up on Shaq……Just focus on Vea on most snaps…..he is doing some damage inside.

  11. Alanbucsfan Says:

Yes, Barrett has been great this year.
But focusing on stats and splash plays is why Bucs lose.
Bucs were beaten in 2nd half – Gay is in spotlight-
But rookie free safety took bad angles and bad reads, middle linebacker and free safety did not contain rookie qb runs and even Barrett and David were beaten on critical plays.
And Jameis? Giants zone coverage in 2nd half left him lost…

  12. Adrnagy Says:

    @bobby

Hargreaves is going to be fine ? Lol.

Next up … cooks, kupp, woods. Good luck !

Todd will go back to zone and we allow 4 TD.

This will be a good test of his skills this week before extending him. He hasn’t been tested by anyone dominant at this point

No offense to the Bucs or Barret meant here at all. But I’ve been watching the Rams, the Eagles, The Pat’s etc play. Those guys are MEN on the line and in the trenches. Its gonna be a lot different than the last three games. A lot. Go Bucs. Stay healthy. Win

  19. Bogiedr Says:

Time to cut JPP and extend Barret? Maybe up front bonus, save cap space and get more solid free agents?

  20. FortMyersDave Says:

Great job by Shaq. He just earned some well deserved bonus coin for incentives but does that eat into the remaining cap space? Curious as someone brought up signung Eric Berry on this thread and that seems like a great idea if the dude is not totally gassed (see Crabtree in Arizona and how that went).

  21. Rod Munch Says:

Count me in on thinking Shaq doesn’t get the 42 sacks he’s on pace to get…

Yeah, I know, I’m a hater for not having faith, but we’ve seen this before.

Like last year when Fitz at this point was on pace to throw for 7000 yards and 72 TDs.

Unlike with Fitz, Shaq should continue to produce – but I’d assume a pretty big slowdown, maybe ending the season with like 12-14 sacks. But this should open up other guys to get sacks – and if anyone said before the year that Shaq would easily get double digit sacks, we’d all be celebrating.

Also I’d have loved to see David in this spot… why they just continue to use him as a coverage guy, nearly exclusively, I just don’t get. Not saying to use him to rush all the time, but I can’t even remember a single time I’ve seen him rush the passer this year (I’m sure it happened, I just don’t remember it).
