Devin White Sits; Perriman In Question

September 19th, 2019

Nine targets, two catches, one ailing quad.

Opportunities are growing for the Buccaneers’ bench players.

Today’s official injury report has been released and for the second consecutive day, Bucs No. 3 receiver Breshad Perriman is listed as “limited” in practice with a quadriceps injury. Rookie savior linebacker Devin White remains completely sidelined from practice with his sprained knee. So it looks like LB Kevin Minter will get his first start of the season.

A bad quad and a speedster receiver are a bad combination, so Joe’s wondering whether this will be the week for second-year receiver Justin Watson to put on his big boy pads and get involved in the passing game. Watson had challenges squeezing footballs this summer, but he’s never gotten much of a regular season shot. He has one career reception.

Beau Allen, Shaq Barrett and Carl Nassib were upgraded to full participation today from “limited” yesterday. Linebacker Devante Bond (ankle) and cornerback Jamel Dean (hamstring) have not practiced this week.

Regardless, the Bucs are rather healthy heading to face a winless and very beatable Giants team.

Watson has a history of GREAT hands…not worried…he lives to catch footballs

  2. K2 Says:

I would rest Perriman and use both Watson and Miller. Perriman has not made plays…if he’s not 100 percent go with the backups.

  3. Hodad Says:

Miller is a little nothing, give Bobo the nod.

  4. ATLBuc Says:

We might see some of Bobo this week

  5. Todd Says:

    GIVE ME SOME BOBO!!!

  6. 813bucboi Says:

    todd

    i agree…..

    put bobo in….

i thought perriman was playing with 8 broken fingers the way ball were going right thru his hands…..

watson has bad hands too….bobo catches better than both of them….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  7. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

IMO Perriman should not be playing, healthy or not. He has been a bust to this point and we are now seeing first hand why. Recievers need to be able to catch balls, not just run faster that the defenders. Jameis threw his a beautiful TD pass last week and skillet hands didn’t even come close to catching it. I think he plays a little scared too. Seems like he is afraid of getting lit up everytime the ball comes his way. Need to try one of the young guys out to see how they do. Watson is fast too so he would be my first choice.

  8. Rod Munch Says:

Humphries is on pace to catch 24 balls for 32 yards.

That’s not a typo, 32 yards for the season, that’s his pace after two games.

    Said it over the offseason….

If you’re a Humphries fan, don’t worry, he’ll get cut at the end of the year by the Titans and the Bucs can pick him back up for cheap if they want him.

Also said Perriman, even with his $4m guaranteed, would probably be cut by week 10. This is, afterall, a guy that got cut by the Redskins last year – the Redskins – the guys with the worst WR core in the NFL. Sure, he had a few nice games in Cleveland, but if you go and watch those games it’s not like he was doing anything special, he was just running completely wide open most of the time and managed not to drop the ball. We shall see…

  9. ocala Says:

I think the Bucs should rest Perriman until February. You need to be real careful with those quad injuries.

  10. Rod Munch Says:

I agree with you guys on Bobo, he (mostly) has good hands, has enough speed and quickness to get open against 3rd and 4th string corners and safeties and Winston has thrown to him for years and there’s a level of comfort there. Ideally they’d use Bobo around the LOS and he’d just play the role of Hump in this offense – but that would require changing up the offense a bit and we can’t have that…

  11. Stanglassman Says:

Hump should have a good game tonight. They’ll need to get the ball out pretty quick against the jags. It’s a little early to be writing off his season completely after week 2. I don’t think Mike Evans will finish with 650 yards either. I think he’s only averaged about 40-45 yards a game. I agree with your overall premise that Hump will under preform his contract due to the Current Qb and their system.

  12. ocala Says:

BTW the Colts cut RB Bruce Anderson from their practice squad. Perhaps the Bucs will bring him back to theirs.

  13. Rayjay1122 Says:

I did not know it was possible to hurt a Quadricep while dropping a football.

  14. Smashsquatch Says:

If Perriman sits Watson would be the next man up; although they may activate Miller since he fits the need for speed at the position. Think the John Brown role in BA’s offense. It’s all about deep speed…..
    Perriman 4.3
    Miller 4.3
    Watson 4.4
    Wilson 4.5
Miller needs to get rid of the jitters and play a bit before we can evaluate him properly. He didn’t look great in limited time in the pre-season. The ball needs to come out quickly in this offense based on minimum protections used and if you don’t have a guy who can eat yards fast it makes it easier to defend; thus the need for a burner in the lineup which is why they drafted Miller. Wilson would be the last guy I’d put in that position, he’d be more likely to fill in for Evans and Watson seems more fit to backup Godwin’s position.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s Bobo time……Miller may be activated…..but Bobo & Watson will get most of Perriman’s one target……

  16. LordCornelius Says:

I’m starting OJ Howard one more week so let’s get him in the freaking game plan. Too much of a talented freak to not be using him. Sucks he fumbled/had a dropped pass week 1 but sh** happens. We saw what he could do last year when he started getting used and it was dominant. Some fantasy people saying to go ahead and drop him already lol.

    GO BUCS!

  17. Pickgrin Says:

Bobo has served his apprenticeship time patiently.

He has the skillset to be a solid #3 WR in this league.

Time to let Bobo loose. He will show why we’ve kept him around for the last 3 years.

Guarantee you Wilson would have caught that dime Jameis threw in the end zone that Perriman somehow let go right through his hands…

Last thing we need out there is a “speed” receiver with a bad wheel who has been plagued by the dropsies pretty much his whole career – including his last game played…

Play Wilson and Watson for the WIN!

  18. DooshLaRue Says:

    Stats are telling!
Good job extrapolating those stats for Hump Muncher.

While we’re working on 2019 let’s look at what JW has to look forward to:

    16 TD
    24 INT
    24 FUMBLES

    3216 passing yards

    Wow!
    Pretty impressive stuff.
I know what you’re going to say.
    Excuses for your hero.

Does Hump get any excuses or is that mutually exclusive for your love interest?

  19. Defense Rules Says:

It’s feels soooo good to have a little depth for a change on defense.

  20. JimmyJack Says:

Agreed with those calling for BooBoo. He has more experience and has shown more in games. It is curious that Joe mentioned Watson and not a word about Wilson. Does he know something we don’t?

Funny thing about these comments is they are all about our #3 wideout. Not a peep about our starting MLB. I guess that’s a no to Minter. We are in good hands there……But I do hope White makes it back soon. Not a great sign that he is not practicing. Hopefully next week he will at least be limited.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

DefenseRules great point. I saw somebody else mention the same thing earlier today.

This is why I thought it was so ridiculous that people were saying we had no depth in TC…..even before we got into preseason games. I understand being critical but when it’s about something you haven’t even seen it sounds more like you got a few screws loose.

Anyways Bruce and staff have done a nice job flipping the rooster. Maybe more importantly has been coaching up some of the players they inherited. OL depth still looks weak on paper butthey got new players now that we haven’t saw before. Hopefully they are holding their own. We may need them if Dotson doesn’t get his crap together. I am guessing that Bruce is getting eager to replace him. The only reason he may still be out there is cause his replacement aren’t ready yet.

  22. Jean Lafitte Says:

Yeah, I’m not really that impressed with Perriman. He’s fast but has bricks for hands.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

DooshLaRue, you get triggered so easily. I don’t have any issues with Hump, it’s just that Mariota is an awful QB that will miss guys from 5ft away – until he’s injured in game 5 of the season, then when he comes back he’ll miss guys from 2ft away. Hump isn’t worth $9m a year however, but he’s a great #4 WR however, someone that can play at or near the LOS where he can get open versus down the roster guys. If Hump is cut after the year the Bucs should bring him back on the cheap since he has the trust of Winston, and Winston is going to be locked up with a long term deal – so keep guys he likes to throw to around.

  24. Johnny Says:

    Any curiosity about Cichy?

  25. Defense Rules Says:

@Rod … “Winston is going to be locked up with a long term deal”. I think this whole 5th year thing is about seeing IF Jameis is really worth a long-term contract Rod. Kinda doubt that these first 2 games have swung the pendulum in his favor yet.

JimmyJack … Yes, “Bruce and staff have done a nice job flipping the rooster” (love spell-checkers … not sure though how the rooster feels about them). And I totally agree with your next point that this coaching staff (especially Todd Bowles & his guys) has done a magnificent job of coaching up the guys who they inherited. Never thought this defense could be turned so quickly.

  26. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I agree with everyone saying Bobo and Watson. Miller’s not ready. I’d like to see Bobo get a majority of the reps, maybe a 70/30 split between him and Watson. Bobo between the 20’s and Watson in the red zone.

  27. The Real Drew Says:

Trade Vernon Hargreaves and 2 second round picks for Jalen Ramsey.

  28. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

No Perriman? We know Bobo is ok, let’s see what Scotty Miller can do!

  29. Beligerentbuc Says:

Lol…you guys are nuts if you think Hump is coming back to TB.

Humphries is going to NE to win a ring…not be in a ring circus. He’s already got the money, now he can chase the hardware.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

Beligerentbuc – Hump literally had a contract to go to NE and turned it down. Too much pressure apparently.

  31. Buczilla Says:

I’m more worried about Mike Evans and whether or not be is over whatever was ailing him. If he gets going the giants should have a hell of a time stopping us.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

Evans should be good. He was sitting on the toilet all week heading up to the San Fran game and had to play in 115 degree heat, then had to turn around and play on 4 days rest. They said in that San Fran game he was wheezing and coughing coming off the field and I think it’s pretty obviously still wasn’t 100% in the Carolina game. I think he should be good to go after the extra time and should put up a big game – that’s where I’m putting my money in DFS. We shall see.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

I will admit to being wrong about something. I said the Bucs @ Carolina is the worst game of the year and it was dumb to put it on national TV. I love the Bucs, been a fane for well over 30 years, but I hate the games @ Carolina, they’re just generally low scoring and sloppy games. While it did turn out to be a good game in the 2nd half, even without that I was still wrong as I forgot about the NFL’s insistence on putting an awful Jacksonville-Titans game on every year.

  34. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“Mike Evan’s, Vh3. And can Brate for Jalen Ramsey”

    Son of Kobe Faker

  35. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Son of Kobe Faker, with different punctuation and spelling I would think you’re suggesting a trade.

  36. SB Says:

Anyone biotching about JW3 should be watching Mariota Absolutely STINK the joint up tonight as he gets out dueled by a rookie QB with no run game.

  37. Rayjay1122 Says:

Jags rookie QB looks very good. Must be nice…..

  38. SB Says:

^^^^^^ And he is doing it with zero running game and poor blocking against one of the best Defenses in the league.
    True… Must be nice.

  39. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

While White sits, Josh Allen bum rushes Mariota…

  40. Rod Munch Says:

Winston threw for over 300 yards, 5 TDs and 0 INTs against the Eagles as a rookie. You cupcakes should cry less, you’re very boring.

  41. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Hail Hot Rod Munchkin…an integral part of the Elf Erotica Empire and resident expert on all things Bucs. The Cliff Clavin of JBF comment section ( your era, no Hot Rod? )

  42. Rod Munch Says:

That could be the gayest thing ever posted here.

    Congrats!

  43. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Ha! Touché, Hot Rod. Not bad…not bad at all.

  44. PriMech54 Says:

RayJay wow quit while you’re ahead, man. Minshew left a lot of high school level throws on the field today. He’s lucky he has that bada$$ defense. Not exactly sure what you’re yearning for so badly. Jameis is asked constantly to push the ball down the field with low percentage throws. Constantly. The game plans built around him throughout his career almost NEVER feature those west-coast heavy concepts you saw tonight and in week 1 with Garropolo. That’s called providing your QB with easy reads to help him get the ball out quickly and avoid a pass rush while he develops a rhythm.

Now, THAT…. THAT would be nice.

  45. teacherman777 Says:

    @defense rules

    You nailed it man.

    Depth on defense is critical.

Next year- I hope we draft 3 D-lineman.

Hope so, but not holding my breath.

  47. FireJasonLicht Says:

Need to put in Watson and Miller and see what they can do. Bobo is trash he has been on this team ling enough and has shown absolutely nothing..

  48. HowMuchIsAnEarOfCornInTampa? Says:

Watson all the way. He has speed and size. And good hands…
