Your 2019 Bucs (Initial) 53-Man Roster

August 31st, 2019

Bucco Bruce Arians called general manager Jason Licht into his office and this is what they came up with.

The list below is what nearly pushing the salary cap to the maximum has purchased for your Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

These are happy times inside the walls of One Buc Palace, lots of back-slappin’ and excitement. Outside the walls of One Buc Palace, well, it’s not as exuberant, but there’s a lot of hope and anticipation.

    Play Offs !

  2. Dom>Licht Says:

Maxed out cap BELOW average roster…. way to go Licht!

  3. RCS Says:

I really hope they can get Bruce Anderson on the PS. But I really think he makes a 53 somewhere and has a good career.

  4. Smashsquatch Says:

O’Connor and Harris will be the first casualties after they work the wire

  5. Cobraboy Says:

Another OL would not surprise me.

  6. Smashsquatch Says:

I’m guessing nobody wanted to pick up Brate’s salary despite his trade bait status

  7. ModHairKen Says:

Sorry that Spence did not work out, but he had his opportunities.

Total upgrade on defense. Cichy was a nice surprise in preseason. No soft DTs, unlike last year. Better athletes and enthusiasm in the D
    defensive backfield.

Better coaches. Better players. Let’s get on it.

  8. Smashsquatch Says:

Miller is on thin ice too….

  9. Tom S. Says:

The Dolphins are trading Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills for two first round picks and a second from the Texans. Since Jason Licht drafted Vernon Hargreaves over Tunsil in 2016, Hargreaves must be worth three first round picks right Joe? 😂😂

Good thing our offensive line is set for years to come. All Hail Jason Lichtanic and his incredible roster!

  10. Wesley Says:

Get Caleb Benenoch of this team!

  11. Blackmagic00 Says:

Really thought Mike Evan’s was worth a roster spot🤷‍♂️

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    TBBF’s bubble players

    Miller (PS)
    Bailey
    Harris
    D. Stewart
    Oconnor
    Benenoch

  13. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Benenoch making this team is ridiculous! Scotty Miller better do something as a receiver or returner.

  14. TampaTown Says:

Shout out to Dare OG! Way to go kid, you made it! I’m also hoping for Bruce Anderson to be brought back to the practice squad.

  15. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    No Mike Evans???lol

  16. Tom S. Says:

You do have to hand it to Licht. Willie Taggart has coached exactly 13 games for FSU and despite the 6 year deal he signed a year ago he is legitimately at risk of being fired/bought out in the next year..

Taggart is now 5-8 at FSU (Winning Percentage 38.4%)
Licht is currently 27-53 in Tampa (Winning Percentage 33.7%)

Naturally Licht got a second 5 year extension because that’s how the Glazer Babies like to roll #onlyinTampa

  17. Terry Says:

We’re is our beloved number 13 Evens

  18. Earl Bedford Says:

I was just going to write that I did not see Mike Evans name on this list!

  19. Blackmagic00 Says:

Guess 90 percent are blind lol. Something is fishy here lmao

  20. Hodad Says:

Miller making this team is a joke.

  21. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Hey Tom S., maybe the Glaziers will hire Wet Willie away from FSU and extend Licht My Balls again. In all seriousness, though I am not a Jay Miss fan, my wife and son are both FSU graduates. They looked great offensively in the first half and “meh” defensively. In the second half, both sides of the ball sucked, and Wet Willie was seriously outcoached. That Boise freshman QB is good. He’ll be an NFL caliber QB before all is said and done.
    #it’s a bucs life

  22. Buccfan37 Says:

Gotta call this a contending roster indeed. Go Buccaneers!

  23. TonyC Says:

I really believe we’re going to have one of the best linebacking corps in the NFL.

  24. Bucs Fan From Philly Says:

    WHERE IS MIKE EVANS

  25. BuccaneEric75 Says:

This list can’t be right. Mike Evans not being on here is a mistake, but there are still 53 on the list. One guy on here doesn’t belong.

  26. Buc believer Says:

Scotty Miller… LMAO!!! Oh no WE SUCK AGAIN!!!

  27. Jeffbuc Says:

Wow only 4 safeties and two are injured.

  28. TonyC Says:

I’ll go out on a limb defense will be top 15.

  29. adam from ny Says:

i think they made a mistake with bruce anderson…but they must have a trick move up their sleeves since they cut both he and ellington

  30. Jeffbuc Says:

That’s would just be the icing on the cake if Licht messed up the roster paperwork and left mike evans off the team by accident. And he was forced to be placed on waivers. And we lose him and get nothing. Curious does anyone know if something like that could or has happened.

  31. Joe Says:

Yup. Just caught Mike Evans. Sorry, have to go over this again.

Bucs didn’t release who is on the roster. Have to figure out who is on here who was cut. Sorry.

  32. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Joe, please make it Caleb, as he blows like Dorian.

  33. JGhoti86 Says:

For those asking why it lists 53 players w/ no Mike Evans…

Yes, Mike Evans (our best player, not sure how you forget him on the list, but I digress) should be on the list and minus 1 player because Ryan Smith is on that list and he’s suspended for the first 4 games (so no move needs to be made until then as it currently stands)

  34. Wesley Says:

    Did we trade Santos?

  35. VA Tom Says:

    Nothing for Santos?

  36. VA Tom Says:

    Ha…jinx

  37. Anonymous Says:

Smells like 4-12. Welcome to the cellar. Again.

  38. Jeffbuc Says:

No we didn’t trade Santos Licht said he wouldn’t trade him for only a 7th round pick he would rather just release him.

  39. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    86, thanks!

  40. BetterBucFan Says:

Maybe it would help Joe to organize by position? And where’s that OT depth guy we just traded for?

  41. BetterBucFan Says:

    Just saw his name, nevermind

  42. ModHairKen Says:

    Jeffbuc, is that true?

  43. D-Rome Says:

A little surprised to see Blaine Gabbert considering his injury.

  44. D-Rome Says:

Glad to see Bobo Wilson on the team.

  45. DaytonaBryan Says:

WTG Tanner Hudson! Kid played his heart out and will only get better. Now he can develop his blocking skills.

  46. Buccaroo Says:

3 RB’s 3 QB’s …Gabbert got Anderson’s spot. I have a feeling he won’t clear waivers for the PS. I hope he does. He obviously has upside and super affordable.

  47. Ndog Says:

I’m glad they keep OConner I really like his game for a backup. He’s good depth and deserved a spot over Spence.

  48. BucsFan727 Says:

Hey you dont like it haters? To bad. Im excited for this year. Your a maniac fan that has nothing to look forward to. Take a long walk off a short plank. I won’t miss you. Dont like Licht dont like the roster? LOL sorry about your luck. You can go fallow another team. O but they wont have a cool website you can go to and get your therapy.

  49. Anonymous Says:

How did Barber make the roster over Ellington? Anyone?

  50. Pelbuc61 Says:

Why didn’t the Bucs trade Santos before he was cut? Because most teams don’t cough up draft picks for kickers. –Joe

  51. JimmyJack Says:

I am glad that Tanner Hudson made the team. He is a nice future piece to have for this team. I would not have been happy if he was cut. Good call.

  52. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Haters will hate this roster. Then again haters hate everything Bucs. I’m ready for next Sunday.

  53. JimmyJack Says:

I see Kentrell Brice didn’t make it. Edwards/Evans both injured.

Not too excited about our starting safety next to Whitehead at this point. My guess is they use a lot of different packages to try and get Buccanon involded more.

  54. JimmyJack Says:

Gaze upon that roster my friends.

That’s what an 11-5 roster looks like.

    GO BUCS!!!

they make crack pipe cleaners I suggest you invest in one…..

  56. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    We are not done

  57. JimmyJack Says:

I expect a winning season. 9 wins is my lowest acceptable total for this team.

I am sorry that your standards are so low. Aren’t you the hypocrite who always calls other people out for low standards. Dang what a phony.

  58. TiredBucFan Says:

Should have cut Miller and kept Schnell. Oh well, hope they can do well with this group.

  59. Figures Says:

    Bobo sucks

  60. Wesley Says:

How the hell did Miller make this team?

  61. rrsrq Says:

Hey Terrell Davis says he expects the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to have the biggest turn around of all teams. Now we know why, this roster right here. Of course the others on the network laughed at him.

  62. rrsrq Says:

Everyone surprised that the Bucs kept Miller over Schnell, neither will see the field on game day unless one of our receivers are hurt. This was about developing Miller and likely knowing he would not last on the PS. If they don’t see progress or he stays hurt, see ya, when Ryan Smith comes back

  63. BA FAN Says:

I think they did real well. My only change would have been dumping Benenoch and keeping Holcomb who can play Guard and subbed successively for Dotson last year. I am sure BA must have seen something in Benenoch I didn’t see.i hope the new Tackle we just got will take Benenoch’s place.

  64. Adrnagy Says:

    Bobo! Breakout year.

  66. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Trading for G/G Billy Price could be a solid move to

  67. D1 Says:

Where is the “the final roster isn’t going to look anything like it does……fill in the date….crowd?

Day after day these people kept assuring us that this and that would happen.
From trading and signing a 3 veteran linemen , running backs, secondary …it goes on and on…

Well , time is out. Time to take your meds and stfu!

  68. Defense Rules Says:

We’ve got quite a few players on that 53-man roster who MAY not be ready for the first few games. Vita Vea, LVD (?), Justin Evans, Mike Edwards, and Blaine Gabbert for starters. Possibly some others, not sure. Hard way for a new coaching staff to go into their first Bucs game. Next man up always sounds good, but missing several potential starters on defense isn’t a good way to open the season. We’ll find out quickly what type of depth we’ve got.

  69. jjbucfan Says:

Luv- love John Kelly and I will take anyone with OL next to their name, lol

  70. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Lol I hear you JJ

    Justin Evans S
    Mike Evans WR
    Blaine Gabbert QB
    Matt Gay K
    Will Gholston DL
    …..

This is for all the people on here who apparently cannot see Mike Evan’s name.

  72. David Says:

I don’t understand 4 tight ends and only 3 running backs.
    How about signing Shady McCoy?
Bad year last year but should be healthy and ready to roll again.

  73. Isaac haggins Says:

No !! Stewart made it , a second round pick !!!

  74. TOM Says:

Benenoch should not be on the team or any other team. Sucks big time.

  75. Jeffbuc Says:

I feel as you almost have to make a claim for Polite. Guy was projected in the first round. It will be a low risk high reward move better than keeping a 27 year old back up who hasn’t done anything In the league either. Would rather try the young guy with potential who doesn’t know how to be a pro yet. But was just humbled by being cut. @luvmy bucs what’s up with billy price where he will be available

  76. Dapostman Says:

Bills, Texans, Bucs and Ravens are all interested in Melvin Gordon. One serious offer on the table. Don’t know from who though.

  77. Dapostman Says:

Doubt it’s the Texans since they traded for Tunsil.

  78. adam from ny Says:

evans was picked up off waivers by the saints…
mike evans is now a saint 🙂

  79. Christopher Schiefen Says:

To the guy who said we only have 2 healthy safeties…wrong, MJ is basically a safety at this point. And Deone is a glorified safety too.

  80. Swampbuc Says:

Some of the posters must have eaten paint chips. Bobo Wilson sucks?

Solid prospects hit the waiver wire and there are TEs and WRs and LBs listed? Yeah those are positions of need for the Bucs. ()

    Sapp was right.

  83. SenileSenior Says:

I understand why many of you have little faith in Licht’s decisions based upon previous years. I don’t understand why you have so little faith in BA.

Everyone on the roster was given a second chance this past off season. Hargreaves, Jones, Cichy, etc. made the cut. Spence did not. They brought in an offensive lineman via trade.

Licht and Arians are operating in sync. No personnel decisions are being made in a vacuum. It is as simple as that.

Questions: Who called who into their office? Is this an insider scoop?

  84. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

“How the hell did Miller make this team?”

Have to protect Gump’s draft picks. That’s how you build a 5-11 team.

This is Buc football, it ain’t no meritocracy.

  85. TDTB Says:

I think there is lot of analysis today by Bucs. I think they have to consider whether several cut players are better than what they have on the roster or are equivalent and would free cap space:

    Samaje Perine over Ronald Jones
    Bo Scarborough over Peyton Barber
Polite or Ray over Anthony Nelson
    Mitch Hyatt over Earl Watford
    Britton Colquitt over Bradley Pinion
Braxton Miller over Bobo Wilson (and Nick Fitzgerald)
    Su’a Cravens over Deone Buchannon
Cardale Jones or Tyree Jackson over Gabbert

Put your money where your mouth is. I’ll make it easier for you. I’ll bet you $100 they don’t have a winning season.

  87. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Easier $100 DRome. Bet you don’t say anything positive all season.

  88. Bucsfanman Says:

“Teflon” Will Gholston! !!!! The guy must have naked pictures of Licht or something!

  89. SappAttack Says:

Roster is way stronger than last year. We are trending in the right direction. It’ll come down to coaching on if this is a 6-10 team or 10-6 team

  90. Oregonbucsfan Says:

Wow! What an improvement over last year’s roster. (hint: this is a sarcastic post) The only clear improvement from 2018 is BA instead of Koetter. Lucky to win six.

  91. Old School Athlete Says:

Yes, Boozer has been cut, but he still has the best selling jersey in Port Richey
