Throwing Gas On The Fire?

August 21st, 2019

Expect more picks?

In a perverse way, this would amuse Joe.

There is a sect of football fans, not necessarily Bucs fans, who want flags across the country to fly at half-mast, pining for the ruination of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

Hell, there are even Bucs fans hollering themselves hoarse in bars wanting Jameis to fail. If that means the Bucs lose, so what? Collateral damage. Joe even reads comments on this very site from folks who post daily begging for such results.

Well, Joe will enjoy reading the comments from folks who will have to eat Lisinopril like M&Ms if Wes Reynolds of VSiN (Vegas Sports and Information Network) is accurate.

Typing for the New York Post, Reynolds seems to think Bucco Bruce Arians and Jameis are a toxic blend. Reynolds believes Jameis’ turnovers will jump because Arians doesn’t care about throwing picks and Jameis has a habit of being careless with the ball (the fumbles drive Joe nuts).

Unlike former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter, who preached ball security and risk management, Arians will let Winston grip it and rip it. Winston will likely see increases in passing yards and touchdowns, but also has the chance to turn the ball over at a greater pace than in his first four seasons — 76 times, including 58 interceptions.

LOL. First, Joe doesn’t believe this too much, as Arians won’t tolerate that many picks. He talked about that on the day he was hired by Team Glazer.

But sort of like watching NASCAR for wrecks, Joe would be amused as all get out to see the Jameis haters completely wig out and just lose their damn minds.

Joe honestly wonders what would be worse for the Jameis haters: for Jameis to lead the league in picks and these guys have to call 911 on a Sunday afternoon to have their hearts jolted back to normal, or Team Glazer signing Jameis to a new contract and sending these guys on a week-long bender.

Jameis is going to be extended. Going to be a great year!

  2. Ben real Says:

If arians won’t tolerate picks then I guess he better get ready to bench jameis because if he’s letting jameis gun sling it he’s gonna have more turnovers than any year he’s ever had

  3. T REX Says:

We’ll see Winston benched again. I have zero doubt. Too many problems are being put on the previous instead of accountability. Lots of crow gonna be eaten on here.

  4. DB55 Says:

Joe any observations on Emmanuel hall? #16 out of Missouri.

  5. D-Rome Says:

Hell, there are even Bucs fans hollering themselves hoarse in bars wanting Jameis to fail. If that means the Bucs lose, so what?

    Stop it, Joe. Just stop!

No Bucs fan is rooting for the team to lose to see Jameis fail. There are many people out there that do not believe he’s the QB of the future or has any chance of being a top 10 NFL QB in his career, myself included. However, I am hoping and praying to the Flying Spaghetti Monster that he proves me wrong. Anyone that roots for the team to lose is not a Bucs fan.

  6. FR Says:

I dont want to see the Bucs lose but in my heart of hearts I dont think Jameis is the answer at QB.

  7. ChipBuc Says:

Boy Joe,way to tee it up for the Magadudes and Pittsshores of the world. LOL

  8. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Joe, we don’t want to see the Bucs lose…but….we know a major reason WHY they lose. America’s Turnover Quarterback. And it’s also a matter of team chemistry…..and America’s Turnover QB provides poor chemistry…because they ALL know he LIED to them, and the coaches, and the front office. So we’ll get more yards and TD’s….but more turnovers. Yeah, that’s gonna work out just fine. But the idiot Glazers (and Licht) will probably keep ATQ. And if anyone tries to tell me they are not idiots….well, I really have no words……

  9. Cobraboy Says:

This Reynolds guy should be quoting the Joes and Manbeast, not the other way around.

  10. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

I believe with all mt heart that JW will be in the NFL Hall of Fame someday.

If that happens, BA may beat him to Canton.

  11. down in the dirt doug Says:

If we finish 7-9 then half our followers will demand that Jameis leave.None of our remarks will matter. The owners will turn to Bruce and it will be his call.I am hoping for 10 and 6.GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Mr. Lucky Says:

Seems like Arians is expecting Jameis to be the next gun slinging Bret Farve!

  13. Mr. Lucky Says:

Look, I originally wanted Marcus Mariotta over Winston (go back and look at the prior comments) BUT

Our team has what it has. Stop wanting and wishing for failure. It’s as bad as the news media wishing for a recession in order to change the POTUS.

Real fans may gripe but real fans don’t root for their team to lose. PERIOD!

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    Morgus the Magnificent

so this team was losing and collecting basement titles long before jameis yet you think he is the reason for all the loses. This team has been a soft joke since the day cancer93 walked in the building. Having mentally weak soft losers as captains on defense in cancer93 and lvd for nearly a decade is why this franchise loses….. Bucs were embarrassing losers with the exception of the one year wonders glory year outside of that one good year this franchise is the laughing stock of pro sports world but you put it all on jameis… lol no credibility…. cancer93 blew far more leads and gave up the butt at home far more often than jameis turnovers costing the game….

  15. Jim Says:

This business of fans wanting Bucs to lose is a fantasy. I’ve never read a single post that supports this. On the reverse, I’ve seen many posts by Jameis fans that ignore a loss as long as he looks good.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

    Mr Lucky

Mariota is going to loose is starting job to a career bum how’s that working out for Tennessee now?????

  17. SCBucsFan Says:

And how about the, cough, “posters” who want this team to fail so they can justify taking an edge rusher over a MLB? Are they any worse?

  18. Pittsshore Says:

JW is projected as the 24TH QB in 2019.
The Buccaneers are projected as the 29th team in 2019.

12&14 league fantasy football mock drafts rarely have JW drafted as a backup.

You are as the world sees you.

  19. rhenry Says:

I hope the Glazers sign Winston for 10 years win, lose or draw. Hopefully, that will run off all the hating, righteous, pretending to be Buc fans that post in here. Hell, I would extend him right now. Might save a few dollars cuz if he lights it up, its gonna get expensive. Peace.

  20. Mr. Lucky Says:

    @tmaxcon,

I totally agree with you about 93 – I wanted Suh over him because talent only gets you so far in the NFL. Attitude is just as important and McCoy just wasnt the answer.

Players (and coaches) have to be in the right fit/environment to flourish. Look how many players the Bucs cut/released that went on to better careers. Michael Bennett comes to mind.

  21. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    tmax-conn

Sounds like you’ve pinned it all on an ex player. And you obviously hate the guy…but he didn’t do any of the ridiculous crapola that America’s Turnover Quarterback did, right? You accuse me of pinning it all on one guy. False. This article IS about ONE guy. And Joe teed it up, not me. And rhenry (above) encapsulates the Winston defenders on here. “Win lose or draw we want Winston, even if it runs the fans off”….this crapp has to stop.

  22. mark2001 Says:

DB. Did some research on Hall…he is coming off surgery. That is why the Bears waved him, it seems. I’m wondering if he will be a practice squad guy.

  23. Bob Woolwine Says:

This is your best article in a while. Contrary to some, VERY accurate description on the fan base as well.

  24. D-Rome Says:

I hope the Glazers sign Winston for 10 years win, lose or draw.

That’s really dumb. You need to change your FSU underwear because you just shat all over yourself.

  25. Buccaroo Says:

My question to Joe is, what if he does throw 20 or more picks? What then?

  26. kmattin Says:

A poorly written article, Joe. You are capable of much better than this.

  27. Joeypoppems Says:

I feel like Jameis got a 5yr extension when Licht did lol. But it wouldnt shock me if he led the league in turnovers

  28. Lamarcus Says:

I’ve been all for that. Play to his strengths ….. Just heave the ball like it’s no tomorrow. IDC about the interceptions he better be no Charlie check down

  29. Pittsshore Says:

Tmaxcon: you prove your ignorance on a daily basis. So much so that I am starting to believe that you may actually be America’s Ignorant QB, Apples McGoo. The Tennessee Titans have brought in Ryan Tannehill just to put some pressure on Marcus Mariota. Do keep in mind that Marcus Mariota is 27 and 28 as a starter and has one playoff win under his belt. How is that working out for apples Magoo??? He sucks and you my friend swallow.

  30. Pittsshore Says:

    Click bait article.

  31. tmaxcon Says:

buc fan hates 2 things winston and winning…. simple as that…. you make all the excuses in the world for failure when it came to that POS Cancer93… you fanboys completely ignored his laziness and one dimensional play yet every loss in the lat 42 years falls squarely on a 25 year old young man who is easily the 3rd most talented player in bucs history behind sapp and selmon.

cancer93 was swaggy baker who played the god card…. they both produced the same results… yet one received a free pass and protection from joe while the other was pummeled by joe yet the exact same on field results at the end of the day.

  32. chris L Says:

joe i think it is fair to say the national media has no idea at all about the bucs in any way or its players and coaches. we know things because we follow you and actually cover the bucs in depthly. i feel though that the defense argument bails out jameis way too much. both sides of the ball and special teams need to step up (and i think they will) this season for the bucs to perform.

one thing that is never mentioned when you discuss the defense is the new scheme. it is completely different than whatever mike smith had out there. that should help the bucs in terms of gameplanning at the early part of the season since no specific tape for other offenses to follow which i think helps the bucs.

  33. July Joe Says:

TOM BRADY has been one of the LEAST CLUTCH QBs in NFL playoff history when having a lead … statistician Scott Kacsmar showed the other day that Brady has thrown INTERCEPTIONS at an almost 400% increase when compared to ALL other QBs in the playoffs who had a lead in a playoff game with like 8 minutes or less left.

BUT … it has never mattered as the Patriots have almost always had a wonderful defense and have always had the GOAT coach, so Brady’s turnovers have always been “covered up for” by the TEAM.

Jameis has never had that … maybe he will this year with Arians and a Bowles-coached defense.

  34. Louis Friend Says:

Posts like this are why JBF gets mocked as just a ‘blogger’ site.

  35. Bobby M. Says:

The idea Arians wont tolerate it….inaccurate. Arians has no choice, they’ve gone all in on Winston, there’s nobody to develop behind him. THE only way I see Arians yanking Winston is if he’s pulling his ole shenanigans of not running the plays that are called.

I tend to agree with the writer…..Winston does much better when getting the ball out quickly generally to the slot WR or TE on a mismatch. The plays that take time to develop generally don’t serve Winston well. Either our line breaks down and Winston gets stripped…OR….he forces the ball to a WR he’s locked in on. Until he shows an understanding of dumping the ball off, TOs will be a challenge.

  36. Defense Rules Says:

“There is a sect of football fans, not necessarily Bucs fans, who want flags across the country to fly at half-mast, pining for the ruination of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.”

Attababy Joe, stir the pot. It’s ALL about Jameis to you. I still remember ‘the good old days’ when it WASN’T all about Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, Hardy or whoever … it was about T.E.A.M. For some reason can’t remember any of those guys blaming the mediocre 2002 Bucs offense that only scored 21 PPG average and ranked #18. Nope, they ALL celebrated the Super Bowl victory TOGETHER. Can’t even remember any of them blaming the 1996 offense that only scored 221 points on the season, a paltry 13.8 PPG for a #30 ranking. Nope, instead they ALL vowed to get better TOGETHER. And they did.

Not in today’s world though, and certainly not on JBF.com. It’s ALL about Jameis.

And for dlotebhturt from the previous article, neither I nor almost all of the Bucs fans who I know could care a lick if Jameis was blue instead of black with yellow polka-dots all over and colored his hair purple. Stop with the race crappola. It’s about TEAM and it’s about position group/individual PERFORMANCES on that TEAM. Solid performances almost always lead to winning. And FYI, the NFL has been dominated by African-American athletes for decades. The NFL was almost 70% black in 2017, with roughly 80% of the players on defense being black. So please, stop playing the race card. It’s belittling to the players who worked so hard to get where they are. Try evaluating each player at each position based on their INDIVIDUAL MERITS for a change.

  37. rhenry Says:

Drome, lighten up dude, a little sarcasm is better than pure hate, as some exude in here.

  38. tmaxcon Says:

    July Joe

you do realize brady owns as many superbowl rings (6) as bucs have playoff wins in franchise history 6…. with 3 coming during sapp and grudens glory year…. i like your stats but saying Tom Brady is not clutch when he has 30 playoff wins which is 5x the playoff wins this franchise has in 42 years isn’t carrying too much weight pal…

  39. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

tamxcon….so you accuse me of blaming one guy, Winston (who has absolutely done the things I’ve written, like it or not). But I have not blamed one man, but without a doubt, he is a BIG reason why this team loses. But you then go on to blame GMC.(and you slip in LVD for good measure).

  40. m0j0 Says:

Checkdown or Touchdown! Bucs offense is going to be very productive and Jameis will have his best year as a Pro.

  41. Buczilla Says:

As long as Jameis throws twice as many touchdowns as interceptions and cuts down on his fumbling, I’m good to go.

  42. Pittsshore Says:

July Joe please put the bong down.

  43. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    Defense Rules………AMEN !!!

  44. Jim Says:

It’s still All Jameis-All the Time. The focus should be on the team and wins, not Jameis looking good. Look, Jameis has talent and, despite everything is actually a good kid who’s made some mistakes (including bad ones). But the 49ers won our last game despite all three QBs playing badly. They won with good running and a stubborn defense. The Bucs can win that way too, but it’s always improve the D, improve the run, so Jameis can look good…

  45. miken Says:

Joe has really grown a complex. 1st Jameis moves the needle more than most nfl qbs (outside of the state of Fla, hes as big as kirk cousins or andy dalton) and now god forbid he has haters for repeated accusations, a suspension and a league high in turnovers. The deal is BA is the BEST and we will be a top 5 offense!
as far as July joe goes… Brady the least clutch… lol. The good news is, you don’t have to know football to be a football fan.

yes i was very clear…. cancer93 was the leader, face of the franchise and highest paid defender for nearly a decade it was his team. lvd has had 1 good year under schiaino. Jameis came to this team as a young rookie and these veteran leaders did everything they could to blow leads, quit on plays and coaches all the while setting a slew of worst of nfl defensive records…. Cancer93 was a fraud the results prove it and lvd is a self admitted mentally weak player who can’t recover from big plays or bad calls… i get it you love career losers and are intimidated by jameis intelligence and talent. jameis owns nearly all the franchise qb records all without a real running back, nfl offensive line and a pop Warner defense. it’s amazing jameis has accomplished what he has with no running backs, no nfl caliber offensive line. I’ll give you, he has a couple of receivers and a te but that’s irrelevant when you have an oline who can’t block paraplegics. lvd and cancer93 sucked through 3 regimes and produced basement titles under all of them I hardly think those regimes that you fanboys were equally excited about simply forgot how to coach when they arrived in tampa they had the will to win and life sucked out of them by mentally weak team leaders….

  47. Pittsshore Says:

I figured out that Tmax is either JW himself or one of his homeboys. No on can be that stupid.

  48. Buccfan37 Says:

Improvement across the team indicates improvement in this season’s play. Even a caveman can see it.

  49. Dewey Selmon Says:

  50. Joe Says:

Joe any observations on Emmanuel hall? #16 out of Missouri.

    No.

  51. rhenry Says:

Don’t know about Brady “the GOAT” being the least clutch. I do know Dee Ford saved his ass in the playoffs by jumping/lining up offsides and nullifying the interception he had just thrown. That pick would have sealed the win for KC and sent them to the Super Bowl.

  52. Cgmaster27 Says:

Pittshore, you sound more and more like a jaded gaytor fan with every post. This article was directed at clowns like you. Good thing about this season is every good gene Jameis has, you’ll once again be invisible from the comment sections. You and you’re alter ego magadude.

you mention every meaningless stat possible except the only one that matters and that is WINS!!!! I don’t care if he thorws 6 picks if he wins 40 to 39 the object of the game is wins.. bucfan get’s all excited about rankings and personal pro bowl BS but always forget the object of the game is to WIN!!!!

Mocked by who? Employees of a fish wrap who don’t know if they will wake up the next morning with a job? People who work for lesser websites? People who can’t build a thriving business?

Sure, Joe could easily write boilerplate boring stories about camp meat from East Cornfield State… and be out of business in a year.

Joe is quite proud of the successful business he has built born from deep love of the Bucs. If that is not good enough for the wannabes, tough toenails!

  59. Race to 10 Says:

My question to Joe is, what if he does throw 20 or more picks? What then?

That would be 2 less picks than Carson Palmer threw (22) his 1st year in BAs system. Carson cut his turnover in half the following years. Hopefully like Carson it will be on the way to a 10-6 record and fat new contract and great future.

  65. WestChap Says:

This is a weasely, provocative article but I guess it worked. As several have said, there is a VERY big difference between fearing bad Jameis and actually cheering/hoping for JW and the Bucs to implode. Any way to fast-forward to opening weekend?

  66. Tony LA Says:

People make too much out of the interceptions. They suck when they happen but a lot of variables are at play – and not all are the QB.

What I hope the coaches are truly focused on are the fumbles. Eliminate them to 2 or less this season and we will see improvement. That one might equal an extra W.

    Improved kicking game. Another W.

    Mildly improved D. Another W.

Right there the Bucs are in 8-8 territory. Small simple and measurable improvements. If Winston gets better on top of that – watch out

  67. July Joe Says:

ANYONE who mocks JoeBucsFan.com is insane; it’s the most popular site for Bucs news and has MORE NEWS than any other site.

Any “journalist” who covers the Bucs and thinks his degree makes him superior to the Joes is delusional.

Even the author of the book on Jameis praises this website and that’s saying a lot as he exposed a ton of media in that book.

As for turnovers, Bruce Arians’ system has always been a HIGH-TURNOVER system so I doubt that changes with Jameis, but as long as the total points are there and the wins are there, Arians is cool with taking risks and even turning the ball over more than most coaches are.

  68. Dan McLaughlin Says:

You’re right Joe about the haters. They want nothing more than to see Jameis fail. Much more than seeing the Bucs have a great year. Question. Wouldn’t Jameis failing mean the Bucs fail too? Answer. ummmm yes.

  69. D1 Says:

    Tony,

The reason people make a big deal about turnovers is they are a big deal. Coaches preach protect the ball and force turnovers because the stats demonstrate a clear and uncontested history of results that indicate turnovers are the #1 stat that predicts the outcome of the game.

Obviously, turnovers will occur and that’s part of the game. Limiting them is the most proven time tested and successful way to win more games. The numbers geeks attempt to find any information that gives them an advantage in theIr analysis and prediction of the game. Theyve basically verified that the coaches have been correct and have been for years. So it is a big deal.

Clyde Christiansen, Byron Leftwich and Bruce Arians state they watched every interception Winston has ever thrown. Their conclusions were that the #1 reason was accuracy. If you believe that B.A. is the best coach in years ..then its rather inconsistent to now dismiss what He and his coaching staff have concluded. Of course, you could claim B.A. didn’t mean what He said ..but there’s the fact that one of big focuses for Winston is improving his accuracy via constant work on proper mechanics. This fact strongly suggests that the coaches believe that as well.

Now if Winston throws 20ints but increases his TD’S to 40+ then I would agree with you wholeheartedly. Also, fumbles have been reduced from 2 years ago when they peaked. So there’s been progress on that issue.

  70. tmaxcon Says:

Joe is quite proud of the successful business he has built. If that is not good enough for the wannabes, tough toenails!

you are a role model for entrepreneurs. personally, I enjoyed the writing before you became MEGA-STAR. yet with more mainstream success comes change. your success is admirable on many levels. covering a team with no hope every year and growing your business is worthy of a Harvard study… oh wait Harvard is too busy brainwashing safe spacers…. less with the has beens and more young creative takes.

i do miss the lap dance donation buttons you’d put up occasional in the begging… more pictures of strippers and less of mccoy too please.

  71. D1 Says:

    Dan,

Find a couple people who have said what you claim. Because I see that the haters go to great lengths to say the opposite. I also recall quite clearly the non haters celebrating when Fitzpatrick failed. They weren’t at all happy with the wins he produced not even remotely. This is a pretty good indication that there’s winston apologists and Buc fans. If the Bucs win with winston then the fan base is united. We’ve already experienced what happens when another QB won. The fan base was divided. When Fitz failed , a portion of the fans could contain themselves as they were happy to have been vindicated that Fitz sucked. When he did the team lost but they were happy.

Any doubts can be quickly dismissed by going back and checking the archives.
It’s to the point of being incredulous or insane to state that critics of winston would rather see him failing than the team winning. The only people who claim this are winston supporters. Where does this belief come from….simple it’s the inability to there’s any room for 2 opinions.

There’s just one certified opinion and all others must be based on hate. Claiming hate is an intellectual cop out. A forfeiture of any self proclaimed intelligence. Basically, it’s the equivalent of a child putting their fingers in their own ears as they chant nananana.. How possibly can these adults who act like children, similtaneously believe in their own intellect.

Personally I support winston , if I had no opinion on the matter and just read the comments from each side looking for information on the topic. It wouldn’t take long to conclude that the haters present a more detailed and evidence based argument than the other side who regularly resort to labeling, personal attacks, circular logic and a host of other debate strategies all in an effort to discredit and dismiss a perceived difference of opinion. Intellectually dishonest and cowardice.

Unfortunately, this is not something unique to sports or the times we live in. And it’s as divisive to this fan base as it is the nation. If you believe in diversity,
equality, tolerance and being opened minded then it shouldn’t be difficult to make room at the table for one extra opinion. Or maybe attempt to find common ground and Unite on that idea instead of creating division and hatred towards someone who already has something in common with you , Buc fandom.

Sh#t the fan basis is already on the endangered species list and yet a holes form a collective to drive a wedge into the few remaining fans. C’mon and act like men. Men should be able to respect fully disagree and work together. Women on the other hand seek out pettiness in order to divide a group. So ask yourself this, Who do I want to behave like?

  72. BA FAN Says:

You know in practice Jameis has broken his red zone jinx. If he had thrown like that in the red zone last year we would have probably won 4 more games even with all else the same. Better defense will win even more games and so will great place kicking. If we win 10 games Jameis will get his long term contract and BA will once again have done just what he did for Arizona and don’t tell me that is impossible. Trust BA to find a way. I do!!!

  73. tmaxcon Says:

    BA FAN

once again bucfan talking about everything that does not matter if they win 10 games and not a playoff game they are failures…. post season wins matter and bucs most likely will never sniff a post season birth ever again….

you need to pray for ba that oline could kill a healthy 40 year old coach by week 6

This is a better offence for Jamies Winston and right now as I type he is the 20th best player at his position in the bleeping world. IN THE FN WORLD. Im sorry you dont like him. JW3 to have just good enough season to get signed. 7 wins with a lot of tds and lot of picks. Hope they win 10.

  77. Magadude Says:

D1: “It’s to the point of being incredulous or insane to state that critics of winston would rather see him failing than the team winning.”

Well stated, as with the rest. Even the Winston critics here acknowledge when he’s had a good game or run games. Sure, the parody may keep up. The apologists run around trying to poke the critics with it, as if they’d care. Bucs fans always want ALL on the field to play well and win…but that doesn’t need to translate one or more players is who they think is best going foward. Many apologists can’t fathom that…and it is because they often are not Bucs fans, but Winston fans. It’s safe to say were Winston not on the team, they’d not be here on JBF.

  78. just another guy Says:

we better have a strong defense that likes being on the field. JW has a history of turnovers but maybe now that will all change because we have a better coach.
time will tell if it was the coach or the player. no more excuses.
