More Insight Into Malcontent DeSean Jackson

August 26th, 2019

Want another peek into the dysfunction of the Dirk Koetter/Jason Licht regime?

Eagles beat writer Zach Rosenblatt penned a DeSean Jackson feature for NJ.com that included interviews with Jackson and people in his famous inner circle.

It seems by Week 3 of the Bucs’ 2018 season, with the Bucs record at 2-0, Jackson was eager to move on from Tampa.

On the first play of the game, Jackson beat [Eagles] cornerback Jalen Mills, caught a quick pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick, slanted across the field with Mills tailing him, then juked back the other way for an easy path to the end zone and a 75-yard touchdown.

Jackson pointed to Eagles coach Doug Pederson. He said, “You never should have let me go,” Pederson recalled.

“I was like ‘I wasn’t even there! I wasn’t even there!’” Pederson said, laughing. Pederson, an assistant on Reid’s staff from 2009-12, wasn’t around when Jackson was cut.

They reconnected after the game, too, and it was here that the seed was planted in Jackson’s mind — he wanted to return to Philadelphia. One reason: He really wanted to play with Carson Wentz.

Yes, Jackson wanted out before the 2018 trade deadline and it seems Koetter and Licht wouldn’t make a deal because they thought Jackson might be worth a victory in the won-loss column, versus more playing for their other receivers. Jackson responded by becoming a malcontent.

Hopefully, Team Arians/Licht won’t make that kind of mistake again.

Dudes a clown that shouldve been traded. Another misstep by licht and koetter for what, a measly win here and there that he couldn’t even provide?

  2. Tampabuscsbro Says:

I cannot for the life of me understand why they kept him around. We had so many holes and the season was long gone. Dirk should have been let go mid season there was no reason to keep him til the last game.

  3. Greg Says:

Give it up Joe Jameis cant hit wide open Perryman either. Enough with the witch hunt. Witch hunt?? –Joe Funny how when Jameis has all the weapons in the world and still struggles it’s not his fault blame the coaching. Joe blames Jameis for all of his dumb mistakes. –Joe Vernon Hargraves is on a team with the leagues worst pass rush and horrible coaching and you’re labeling him a bust. His own coaches benched him in Year 2. And the regime has drafted 4 cornerbacks since then. Keep in mind the same GM was here, the guy who Bruce Arians thinks is the best available. –Joe Hello Joe Florida State fan.

  4. D-Rome Says:

Yeah, that’s a shame and all but he was great for me in Madden 19.

  5. Jimmy Says:

Joe, have to give you credit. You’ve been calling Jackson a sack of shiit for a long time now. This is proof. The Bucs were undefeated and the SOB was trying to get out. Seems like the only people who wanted this trash is the Madden jerkoffs.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

“Vernon Hargraves is on a team with the leagues worst pass rush and horrible coaching and you’re labeling him a bust.”

Greg ….do you think Vernon has lived up to his first round status?

    I don’t. I don’t think he ever will.

  7. tmaxcon Says:

any player with heart or passion for the game of football wants out of Tampa the black hole of nfl football. Newsflash, Jackson yearned to come to this black hole when he had other options. –Joe . –Joe Wanting to be successful does not make one a malcontent… when you are buc you know damn well you don’t have a chance nor does the orgazintion have a clue what they are doing. this mickey mouse franchise could turn that god card playing bum Tim Tebow into a malcontent…

going to work every day with no hope can turn anyone into a malcontent

  8. Ben real Says:

Lol don’t care what y’all say … desean is still a good football player… this is what separates some buc fans from other NFL fans… once a player is gone from the Bucs … y’all trash dudes … and disrespect them like they ain’t sh$t … it just didn’t work out in Tampa … that’s all … he’s still a good football player… he should have never came to Tampa … it wasn’t the right fit for a team building .. he’s a player you plug into a contending team

  9. Greg Says:

Buc1987 Who do you think this team was built around more Hargraves or Winston? Do you even watch football? We have ignored the defense almost every year under light. Does he have the numbers of a first round pick? No does Winston have the numbers of the number one overall pick? Hell no! Look a little deeper and see why.

  10. Patrick in SC Says:

Sounds like what he was saying about Jameis before he got to Tampa. Sounds like he’s hoping that getting with a quarterback will revive his career and make him something other than the gadget player he’s become.

  11. Greg Says:

To prove my point even Darrelle Revis couldn’t play worth a crap here because there was no pass rush. I know Hargraves is a good corner because I have actually watched him both in college and pro. But he’s not Superman and a corner cannot carry a defense

  12. 941bucsfan Says:

Might want to post the article on how Wentz and Jackson are having problems connecting with deep ball right now.

  14. DooshLaRue Says:

Yeah dumb non-move by Licht along with keeping The Soft One too.
Could have gotten something for both.

  15. Marine Buc Says:

It’s like making a deal with the devil. He brings some very good things to your team but will also be very destructive over time.

  16. doctor_berto Says:

Post something on invisible Devin White vs absolutely dominant Josh Allen

  17. Buc1987 Says:

Greg….I didn’t want them to draft Hargreaves in the first freaking round having watched him play in college. Let some other team make that mistake.

I’m not comparing Winston’s draft selection.

I’m singling out Hargreaves though since you mentioned his name.

    Gator fans are so…..sensitive.

    Go Bucs!

  18. Buc1987 Says:

    doctor_berto Says:

“Post something on invisible Devin White vs absolutely dominant Josh Allen”

    Licht’s the freaking worst!

Devin White or Hargreaves it doesn’t matter.

    Licht’s selections suck!

  19. Greg Says:

Bucs1987 The only two positions on this team where we have NFL caliber depth is wide receiver and tight end. Why do you think that is? When Vernon Hargraves or any other corner is actually in a position to succeed then judge him. My original comment was for Joe you decided to chime in.

  20. tmaxcon Says:

Newsflash, Jackson yearned to come to this black hole when he had other options. –Joe

you never know how bad it is until you experience it yourself and based on he historical results it is the undisputed black hole

  21. Greg Says:

Bottom line is that it will be difficult for Winston to succeed unless our offense of line improves. It will also be difficult for Hargraves to succeed unless we have a better pass rush. I’m hoping for both

  22. Bucsfanman Says:

I don’t get the obsession. DJax and Jameis had ZERO chemistry. DJax is gone! Lets not try to “fill in the gaps”. We knew what we were getting when we signed him and we couldn’t get him the ball consistently. That’s the story.

I hope Perriman’s speed is not wasted this year.

  23. Pittsshore Says:

You gotta ask yourself, wouldn’t you not want to be in Tampa if you were DJ knowing that after week 4 that JW would be throwing terrible deep balls to him. Just watch what DJ does in Philly since he has a real QB.

  24. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Pittsshore is spot on. Jackson didn’t want out for no reason. He discovered the truth. And I guarantee, in Mike Evans’ heart, he wished he had a different scenario. He’ll never say it though.

  25. BigHog Says:

  27. Buc1987 Says:

    Greg…okay I see your points.

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Good riddance……good bye…..see ya!!!

I was just starting to forget about the “malcontent” and Joe just had to remind us.

Waiting on the Michael Bennett, Aquib Talib, LaGarrett Blount, Donald Penn articles….and you can throw in a Hump regret…..

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    How could I forget GMC!!!

  30. Buc1987 Says:

    TBBF…GMC. lol

  31. Buccernutter Says:

    Ben real

You seem to miss the reasons why many people are clowning djax after he left. It’s probably because he tried to fight coaches, destroyed property in the locker room, slept in meetings, skipped meeting to play cards with swaggy, and intentionally tried to tank jameis’s career. Not because he’s a bad player. smh

I just love the premature evaluation of the season after preseason game 3. The only thing at this point to stress is the OL and even a quarter of football isn’t enough to fully judge. best to make mistakes now and fix them before it’s regular season.

Short term memory rules in the NFL.

  32. Waterboy Says:

    Overated career.

  33. Buczilla Says:

How this crybaby didn’t get his a$$ handed to him in the locker room defies logic itself. Surely someone was willing to stick up for Jameis and pound on this guy a couple of times? (I’d be mad at Jameis for not sticking up for himself but he had no choice but to avoid anything negative due to his own antics). Licht, Koetter, the Glazers, and any player that knew what was going on should ashamed that they let this punk run amok. Thanks for sharing the story Joe and please give us all the other dirt that you have on this dude. 😃

  34. Licht Headed Says:

    Over/under for 2019 Bucs wins: 4 1/2

  35. doctor_berto Says:

Derwin and Josh Allen >>> Vea and White

  36. Destinjohnny Says:

look he is who he is
But jameis was 6 of 25 hitting him with the wide open deep ball

  37. Bobby M. Says:

Players do what’s best for themselves all the time….Winston deliberately kept the Uber situation to himself until it blindsided the entire organization. Jackson simply wanted out because Winston cant hit the deep ball which is literally all Jackson does. Jackson did his job….he got open routinely, I never cared for the guy but I could see why he was frustrated.

Frankly, everyone knew Jackson can be a diva when he was signed. Licht signed him knowing the downside….we grossly over paid for what we got from him…and then completely mishandled the trade. Classic Licht at work and classic Buc free agent. THE only reason people come to Tampa is the MONEY. All we do is over pay for tier two talent. Ryan Jensen is the classic example….5th highest paid center who might be middle of the road at best. Brent Grimes….total money grab. Even the coaches…Lovie got him and all his boys paid. Arians is doing the same thing.

  38. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

doctor berto right on….jason licht is the worst GM…signing DJax is another in a long list of dumb moves by the GM…sign swaggy baker and desean to clowns who were clowns in DC…djax will do fine in Philly this year but it was complete mismatch here in tampa, its almost like the GM has no pulse of his team, its painfully obvious he is a savant when looking for players who can win 5 games per year

  39. JimbobBucsFan Says:

So Licht appeased Koetter and kept MeJax.

Did he do this in order to help Koetter (or even himself) keep his job? Could he have done this not knowing he would get to bring in Arians a real tested NFL coach later on? We will probably never know.

I too, hope he has learned his lesson. Do what is best for the team balancing short term needs against long term value. Trust things will work themselves out if you do.

  40. DB55 Says:

I drafted djax as my flex wr to ensure he wouldn’t do chit all season.

  41. Jmarkbuc Says:

Me Jax is 100% Prima Dona WR, and a terrible teammate, always has been.

That being said, how many practices did it take for him to see that JW couldn’t throw the long ball, and this wasn’t gonna work for him?

That has to be why he loved Fitz, and did everything he could to tank JW…it ain’t right, but they say real recognize real..so maybe clown recognize clown too.

  42. Glazers are idiots Says:

  45. tmaxcon Says:

Bad mouthing talent like djax while you live in the basement with no hope to escape proves low standard bucfan is the dumbest form of life on earth. Bucfan is scared of talent, personality and winners….

  46. BridleOaks Buc Says:

“They reconnected after the game too, it was here that the seed was planted…” Serious question…did they just admit to tampering? Isn’t this something that the league would want to look into?

    Go on……

  48. Buccernutter Says:

    RIP to glazers are idiots.

    Joe just KO’d you.

  49. UnderMeBucin’Hat Says:

You could tell his attitude during that episode of Hard Knocks when he was bitching about not getting the ball.

  50. TDTB Says:

Should have never signed him. A veteran “me first” player is a bad add to a young team who is trying to work together. This looks just like AB to the Raiders. He’s a distraction instead of an asset. Once a winning and selfless culture is established (See NE) you can introduce a Me-Shawn to the group if it’s the missing piece. The locker room can handle it then. The Bucs weren’t ready for it at all.

  51. Hodad Says:

All the dysfunction caused by Licht, and the clueless Glazers reward him with a new contract. Continuity, as in the Glazers must want to continually lose.

  52. Clw JB Says:

The Dirk and Diva show is over, thank the good lord above

Desperate, straw-grasping Dirk trying to win just one more game to stay employed as a HC

The Diva should have been traded last year, he helped us so much on the way to 5-11….ugh

This demonstrates to me the GM in our organization is merely a schlep to the HC

Whatever the HC wants, he gets, regardless of how stupid it is…

Maybe now with a real HC we can get this fixed finally…

  53. nick Says:

GREG: YOU MEAN THAT ONE PLAY TO PERRIMAN? çuz its funny jameis can hit others

  54. Rod Munch Says:

Huh? How did he want out by saying they should have never let him go? Like I get he wanted out in general – but why would saying that be proof? Makes no sense.

  55. Maddog Says:

    Old news move on

  56. Mike10 Says:

Remember when he really wanted to play w Winston, who was fresh off a 9-7 season?

Ya, then a deep threat like Jackson realized Winston has (statistically) the worst deep ball in the NFL.

  57. jjbucfan Says:

How is it that nobody talks about the first ball to Perriman that hit him right in stride and he either tried to 1 hand it or his arm was being held by the defender. I think that we challenged PI and lost. Therefore, he probably tried to 1 hand it. They showed exactly 0 replays even though we challenged it.

  58. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“the dysfunction of the Dirk Koetter/Jason Licht”

    A complete myth.

A dysfunctional team quits on their coach. They did not.

Jackson did, not the team. And he quits on every team he’s been on.

  59. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“His own coaches benched him in Year 2. And the regime has drafted 4 cornerbacks since then.” – J0E

Just to point it out, but he was a press corner in college and he was forbidden to play that way by his coaches until now, which is why he suddenly looks better. That’s totally on the coaches.
