Coaching Jameis

July 21st, 2019

Teaching receivers.

There are no July days off for America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

With many of his teammates enjoying their final full weekend of freedom for the calendar year as training camp opens later this week, there is no such relaxing for Jameis. Instead, Jameis brought two of his receivers, Justin Watson and Scotty Miller, on a field trip of sorts to Jameis’ old stomping grounds of Tallahassee, where Jameis put Miller and Watson through workouts and film study.

Of course, Jameis was tossing the rock to his teammates.

Below is a video posted on the Instagram page of something called “MDFNation.com,” an Alabama training outfit run by a former NFL player and based in Birmingham. Jameis is one of their clients.

Why and who decided to hold these workouts in Tallahassee and not locally is unclear (yes, Joe knows Jameis played college ball at Florida State, but Miller and Watson did not). In the video below, you can see Jameis in the film room playing the part of offensive coordinator telling Miller what he should do when he sees a specific coverage from the defense.

Watson and Miller came from small football schools.

They got a taste of being at a college football powerhouse.
Cool to see the extra work.

No one can question Jameis work ethic/ love for the game.

Jameis’s best season has always been offseason !

I still cant believe the IDIOTS that overlook what Jameis has had to.deal with as our qb with horrible coaching and defense and think he is the problem.

You people had to have been dropped on your damn headed when you popped out and never fully recovered. This dude wants it and he WILL get.it. Hopefully he WONT be another player the team gives up on and it.doesnt happen somewhere else.

    ITS.ALWAYS BEEN COACHING!!!!!

  4. #1bucsfan Says:

Bucemup Jamie’s can not be blamed for the poor defense play poor ST play an poor O-line play but he has made multiple bone headed throws that have turned into either turnovers or missed opportunities so he does get blamed for those but I do agree that it’s idiotic to try an blame him for all the others you mentioned. If Jameis limits those bone headed throws an becomes more consistent then he will get extend an help us reach the playoffs which I do believe will happen now that he has a coach who can get him to the next level

I hope that he is coaching and showing the routes, then “coaching” receivers to stop their route and be prepared for jump ball with no yac!!!!! or where they have to stop the route and get ready like a soccer goalie as the football could be to the right or left of them, and then no yac!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully this will be the last of the waiting for the mythical breakout season!!!!!!!!! How many years are we supposed to wait?????? Why do the sheep want to pay elite money for somethiing that is not even close to elite!!!!!!!!!! Fitzmagic exposed jw3 and will all now that fitz is not a good qb?????????

  7. Magadude Says:

Excellent…keep working. Winston must keep his head down and stay focused on turning around this team and not making mistakes!

  8. Magadude Says:

@Bucemup…Don’t forget to blame hsi woes on the running game too…and the fans who don’t like him, and the media. Yes, his lack of D and coaches are all at fault. And any of Winston’s bad games, he hurt his shoulder, or the weather was bad. Only idiots can’t see that.

However, the biggest problem with Jameis is Jameis. And the more I see how is apoligists coddle him and go around blaming everything and everyone else…but him…he is NEVER going to get better.

  9. Ndog Says:

Can all please vote El Buco Realisto off the Joe Bucs fan island?

  10. BucEmUp Says:

#1Buc, how many of those “boneheaded mistakes” were actually him playing with a huge point deficit and knowing in the back of his mind that if he didnt score some type of points on almost every possession that mathematically it would be impossible yo win. When your 23 points behind in the first half and you only have 33 minutes of game play left and you know thr other team is capable of scoring at will what would you do? The onky logical thing for Jameis to do is take what woud normally ve considered unnecessary risks to try and compensate for a hysterically bad defense and make an attempt to catchup. I guarantee that if the defense improves year one, his int numbers will go down year one.

  11. BucEmUp Says:

    Simple math

  12. Ndog Says:

See I think what people see as him being coddled are mainly responses to the constant claims that “he can’t win games” or “he isn’t accurate” or “he doesn’t lead receivers”. Crap like that non-stop infrurates the people that understand that many factors play into an interception or a ball looking high or why our YAC is low. I think people just want both sides of the equation on display and most of the ones that constantly are hammering Jameis conveniently leave those things out. Nothing is one side or the other as Jameis certainly makes horrible throws but news flash all QB’s do. Also one last thing people keep saying he makes these “bone headed” plays all the time but what bone headed play did he make last year? Yes bad reads, inaccurate throws but bone headed? Also people keep saying he had these horrible gameS but he had A horrible game, yet people act like that is the norm. Again news flash all QBs have those games, from Brady to Brees but they seem to be forgotten while Jameis’s becomes who he is. It’s just ridiculous. I mean people look at the picks but look at the amount that come on hail marys or when we are down 30. Are those really the same as picks in the first quarter?

  13. Magadude Says:

@El Buco Realisto…Fitz is clearly one of the best QBs in the world, just not in the NFL, and is a solid backup or somwhere between that and a starter. Fitz has of course, not been consistent. That’s hopefully not where Winston is headed but we’ll find out. Guys lneed to be being hard on this team. Let them use the skeptcism and sarcasm as you do as a reason to produce. To prove you wrong. You are a true Bucs fan, not just a Winston fan. That’s how it should be.

  14. DB55 Says:

He did the same with Hump and Brate but he has nothing to do with their success. This is what you call make others around you better.

  15. Kobe Faker Says:

“Statistically JW3 will have a nice season but the team will be 3-13

The Bucs will draft 1 of the top 3 college QBs in the coming draft

JW3 will be traded for a high 2nd/3rd round pick to an established team with an older soon retiring QB

    history repeats itself”

    Kobe Faker

  16. DB55 Says:

I often wonder if most of you Winston haters are just plain stupid and then you go and say chit like this and completely confirm that you are -Fitz is clearly one of the best QBs in the world- lmao omg.

  17. Magadude Says:

Ndog…you were doing well with: “Nothing is one side or the other as Jameis certainly makes horrible throws but news flash all QB’s do.”

What was boneheaded you ask? Plenty in the CIN game and the decision in the CLE game (how many other times does he do this) to ignore the play sent in the do his own thing? And his apologists (like in the book) frame it like he ignored his head coach and chose instead to go win the game (New Orleans).

  18. Bird Says:

    Buc em up

But don’t forget Jameis even has admitted in the past to being to geeked up to start games. Coaches even agree . Therefore , Slow starts with Bucs offense has contributed to being down games early.

My Buddies that went to FSU even confirm the same slow starts but he was captain comeback in the second half. Not as easy to pull off in the pros.
Pretty sure slow starts with the offense equally put a team behind. And equally tire an inadequate defense even more. And equally put more pressure on defense that has a lot of holes.

The Bucs lost a lot of close games the last few years. A lot of One score games at that. So turnovers do matter. Can’t argue one point without commenting on other. To lead the league with Blake bortles in turnovers is not a good comparison.

With that said , the defense and oline and lack of running game have not helped Jameis and put to much pressure on his shoulders. But he is the starting quarterback and that is their job to take the good with the bad. And why they take the blame a lot of times. That’s why they are making close to 40 mil a year now. But to point the finger everywhere else but the qb is not reality.

I think arians and proper coaching will get this best of Jameis and the team.
Season starts in a few short weeks. Super stoked.

Let’s hope the Bucs can finally turn the corner on this sh!t show. Wins need to matter . Time to nut up or shut up

  19. Magadude Says:

Fitz IS one of the best QBs in the world…unless there’s a bunch of dudes laying tile or balancing financial books somewhere no one knows about. One thing is for sure, Fitz doesn’t rely on some anonymous author to go out and convince the world he is one of the best. Plus he’s there for his team….always. There are probably a lot of tile layers and accountants who blow Winston away in the category.

  20. El Buco Realisto Says:

It would have been more beneficial if LVD was there to “coach” those wr’s how to play defense and tackle after all those INT’s and turnovers that jw3 causes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ndog…you were doing well with: “Nothing is one side or the other as Jameis certainly makes horrible throws but news flash all QB’s do.”

And his apologists (like in the book) frame it like he ignored his head coach and chose instead to go win the game (New Orleans).

There it is again the Cincy game and the Cleveland interception was just as much on the RB as Jameis. The RB went the wrong way and drew the linebacker underneath Godwin’s route. Should Jameis have seen it probably, but if the running back runs the correct route it was the perfect read and throw. And even the Cincy game while God awful non of those were the “boneheaded” or “hero ball” that people always talk about. The first throw was a over throw, the second was a play were he clearly didn’t see the underneath linebacker, the third he over threw Brate when a DL flashed (but wasn’t that close) and the fourth was just a horrible read as he completely missed the safety. Non of those are hero ball plays they are bad plays but not the kind of play everyone claims he makes. Why can’t people just be honest instead of making crap up? This is not just here but the national media as well. In addition almost every pick he threw upon his return was in the normal course of the game, like against Atlanta the ball bouncing off if Mike Evans chest and going straight up. Or the Giants game where they picked off a hail Mary. Those still count but they are not throws were you would do anything different cause they were good throws or desperation time.

  22. Ndog Says:

Well Fitz was always there expect for the time he held out through all of the off-season work after having one good year. Yeah his one real shot and he held out, that guy is all about team

  23. Bird Says:

    Dang

Didn’t realize training camp starts Thursday !

  24. JimmyJack Says:

The good news with Winston last year was that his decision making was improved once coming off the bench. The bad news is he finished 0-4. And in those final 4 our defense played at the average level y’all are begging for. Oh and our running game was also effective in two of them games.

Four winnable games and not one win. That’s a bad look no matter how you slice it. You can’t use the defense or running game as a excuse. So what’s the excuse?

  25. Magadude Says:

@Ndog…yes, on the RB at times but also on Winston. I was at the game in CIN and sadly, the film of it twice. I know what happened. But he still thew a bunch of picks, still made bad decisions. Improved? For a time. How long? We don’t know? Is he “fixed”? We don’t know that either.

    Or…

    We could tell Winston:
“Jameis, we know the whole world detests you, and you have never done anything wrong, so we wrote a book to shout all those false narrative people down and threw in a bunch of other digs, while not telling the whole story. But to reward you for putting up with so much pressure as you made millions playing a kids game, we’re going to give you another pass. That is, you can throw as many picks as you want, as long they aren’t your fault. And how much do we owe you for tolerating us for even thinking of blaming you? Free franchise tag? $140M for five years. Yes, we ill just do it now so you are safe! You deserve it!”

Hardly. Every QB in the leaque also has fans that make excuses for their man. Those folks aren’t helping their guy either.

Four winnable games and not one win. That’s a bad look no matter how you slice it. You can’t use the defense or running game as a excuse. So what’s the excuse?

See heres the problem, just flat out inaccurate. In one of those final four games, the Falcons game, Jameis was 22-34 for 345 yards with 4 TDs and a pick. So that’s not good enough to win? What do you expect 600 yards and 6 TDs while being 50-50?

The Defense gave up 34 points at home to a team that was out of the playoffs and you blame the QB?

  29. JimmyJack Says:

No Ndog I specifically said 0-4. That means 4 games dude. And if ya gotta throw a shootout in one of them games then Winston should be able to deliver once in a while.

If we had to win all four of them games by shootout then that different. But that’s not what happened is it?

Maybe your expectations are different by when they built this offense I expected them to be able to win a few shootouts per year. But that didn’t happen now did it?

Yeah if every game needs to be a shootout your in trouble. But if you can’t win shootouts in our division you are also in trouble.

  30. Magadude Says:

DaPostman…don’t see any flip flop. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. Let me say it this way:Winston needs to keep his head down and play….he seems to be doing that, as evident by the article. He has a lot of things to work on that HE and only he needs to work on. he hasn’t put his woes behind him yet. But his apologists are doing him no favors at all by protecting his play/his mistakes as if he desn’t need to fix a bunch of stuff. Too many are acting like all is good now.

  31. Magadude Says:

If the Bucs don’t want to start 0-4, they very well mat Winston and cast to put up 40 points per game while the D (hopefuly) settles in. I think the offense MAY be able to do it I’m not confident yet this D will be able to get markedly better to the point they can keep teams under 20 points. That puts the pressure back on the offense and we may have another debacle like last year.

  32. Ndog Says:

So to be clear you are saying 22-34 for 345 yards with 4 TDs and a pick from our QB including being up 17-0 against a non-playoff team at home is not good enough? Is that what you are saying?

And you said “Four winnable games and not one win”. And you also said the defense played well. So those numbers above aren’t good enough to win but giving up 34 points on defense is? BTW not only did we have a 17 point lead we also came back to take the lead with under 2 minutes in the four only to still lose. So yes let’s blame the QB, see this is what pisses people off these statements are pure ridiculousness.

  33. JimmyJack Says:

Maga…..I’m certain I am correct on this that the first comment I ever read of yours was that you wanted Winston gone after this year regardless of the circumstances. Didn’t matter to you if he wins a passing title becomes an All-Pro or even wins a Super Bowl. You wanted him out no matter what.

Reading your more current posts it sure seems you have backed down from that rigid stance. Not sure if that classified as a flip flop.

Now all’s you gotta do is admitt you don’t want Winston gone at any costs and I’ll lift your ban and let you back on the bandwagon.

  34. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog come on………I specifically said 0-4. Now I am specifically repeating 0-4.

And yes. The defense was good enough in those 4 games to win more then zero.

And yes 22-34 is good enough to win with but not in that game. We obvisously needed just a bit more in that game………no not 50-50 for 600 like you say. Just another FG or converting one more drive for a TD instead of settled for a FG.

It was a shootout game bro. He had to outperform Ryan to win and came up short. This team was built to win with offense and sometimes that means winning a shootout and outdueling the opposing QB………Hate to even bring it up but sorta like when Fitzmagic outperformed Brees……….You do know you can win games that way don’t you?

  35. BetterBucFan Says:

Jameis hasn’t ever played with a good defense.

Except… That one 5 game streak in 2016 where the defense was actually good and Jameis wasn’t “throwing from behind” like everyone claims. Let’s take a look at those basic stats for how he did then, with a “good” defense.

    Bears vs. Buccaneers
    23-33 (69.7%), 312 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
    Final Score: 36-10 Bucs

    Chiefs vs. Buccaneers
    24-39 (61.5%), 331 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
    Final Score: 19-17 Bucs

    Seahawks vs. Buccaneers
    21-28 (75%), 220 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
    Final Score: 14-5 Bucs

    Buccaneers vs. Chargers
    20-30 (66.6%), 280 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT
    Final Score: 28-21 Bucs

    Buccaneers vs. Saints
    16-26 (61.5%), 184 yards
    Final Score: 16-11 Bucs

Now let’s compare his average passing statistics for that 5 game span to the average for that year, and rank him among QB stats for that full year.

Jameis yards per game: 265.6 (12th)
NFL average yards per game: 241.5

Jameis TD percentage (TDs thrown as a % of attempts): 4.5% (14th)
    NFL TD percentage: 4.3%

Jameis INT percentage (INTs thrown as a % of attempts): 3.2% (27th)
    NFL INT percentage: 2.3%

Jameis yards per attempt: 8.5 (2nd)
    NFL yards per attempt: 7.2

    Jameis passer rating: 94.7 (12th)
    NFL passer rating: 89.3

The simple fact is even with a good defense, he still plays the same! Now 5 games is too small of a sample size to draw a significant conclusion from, but even so it’s telling. Winston still throws for exorbitant amounts of yards, throws a lot of interceptions, and throws for a little bit above average touchdowns.

Now my question would be how much of this is Jameis and how much of this is the scheme? Winston has never played under a different offensive philosophy than Dirk Koetter’s. We’ll see this year whether it really is the coaching, like some individuals keep harping on about, or if it’s Jameis, like other individuals talk nonstop about.

  36. JimmyJack Says:

And I really dislike looking up stats but it helps in this argument.

Matt Ryan had more yards then Winston. Higher completion percent. More third down completions & his team destroyed us in Time of possession.

Matt Ryan outplayed Winston in the game and that matters a lot in shootouts……….Yes the defense could have done more and won us the game but so could of our QB…………Sure it’s asking a lot. If you don’t wanna expect it of him then quit running around comparing him to Manning, Brady, ect……..Them guys have won shootouts in their careers. They have carried their teams at times and of you don’t think elite QBs should have that ability your lying to yourself.

Yet none of this is to mention that I still specifically said 0-4 and we didn’t have to win all of them via shootout.

  37. JimmyJack Says:

And while Better Buc fan brings up 2016 I will like to mention that I rewatched the Dallas game from that year.

It was the last meaningful game we played in this city. And it’s worth noting that Winston played pretty poorly in that game and was part of the reason we lost. He left a lot of plays on the field…….Especially down the stretch.

And this is not me blaming Winston. This is where Ndog always gets it wrong. I am not blaming. It’s called critism.

Yes I watched and noticed Winston had too many bad plays. I also noticed that Gerald was completely manhandled in that game. He made absolutely zero impact. He was also not even on the field for many critical plays.

So quit acting like critism is blaming. Some of us are open minded enough to realize it’s a team game and you can’t point a finger at just one thing and think it’ll fix all.

  38. OneBuc55 Says:

Jameis is the F’n man…I’m expecting a career year from him…

The entire coaching staff has his back for one…Not to mention, he has amazing receivers and the whole offense will be catered to his strengths…I’m honestly expecting him and this team as a whole to surprise the league….

Jimmy Jack. I have laid out what Winston needs to do, what has to happen, to warrant being retained in my mind. I doubt he can do it, but maybe I get surpirsed, and plus, I have seen the Bucs make lousy decisions before.

I have also said I hope he scores every play, wins every game. Please don’t take my discussion and expectation on what may or may not get him another contract as being my druthers. I do reserve the right to change my mind based on any information I see. Right now, he’s bad for business in every aspect but the season is young. He is the best chance to win this year at QB though, given they owe him $21M and can’t anyone else. It’s the 4th qtr though and he’s down by a lot.

I have access to the Bucs seniors, facilities, stay in the team hotel when I join them on the road. I have a sideline pass and VIP access to camp, which I am looking forward to as always. I also have two seats in the Hyundai (West) Club and two seats in the lower bowl on the 40. You can pretty much shove whatever “bandwagon” and “ban” you are you are talking about. Im not saying fixing the defense would make him perfect, but I do think.it would br the difference between throwing “too many picks ” vs “sh!t happens every noe and then.

@JimmyJack. You said “It was never personal we just don’t allow people on the bandwagon that are against winning. As far as being bad for business the only thing that changes that is winning.”

No, nothing personal of course. I just don’t deal in fake bandwagons, bans, etc, and rhetoric like that. To correct, I never once said I didn’t want to win–always the opposite. Oh, you can bet with what I spend on the Bucs and my own stakes, winning is critical; winning is great.

Winning is an essential ingredient, but in this case, not enough. I disagree there.

I’m looking through a few lenses here…now (1 year or less), near term (within 5 years), and long-term. Winston’s all we got for now. He’s our QB and when he’s in games I support him and want him to be successful. As an aside, I hope he sorts things out but that doesn’t mean he gets back into graces with me where he was (I think a lot of people feel thta way). In just a little longer than a year, we are not going to have some groundswell of area fans to suddenly fill seats. Winning is not enough. The Glazers want a face of the franchise, and Winston has blown that opporutnity. As with during the superbowl era, that may fall on someone else, or a whole squad (like it fell on the D we had) to fulfill that role. But my read is Winston has blown that part. Will he be the QB if not Mr. Franchise? I don’t know. I don’t think with today’s salary cap and crazy QB salaries, you can have one without the other. What team has a face of the franchise that is so polarizing over the long haul. Maybe Big Ben? Eli? But their metro areas can support it. That will unfold over the long haul, which is where I’m in it.

I will say this, if Winston is behind the book put this week, or doesn’t distance himself from it, he’s goofed again IMO in the PR department. That’s his business, and I’m not going to discuss that in great detail anymore for couple of reasons. I was reading the book and hoping like crazy he’s not taking those positions.

Like everyone else, I’d like to get to football.

  54. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog you are not getting anything straight. This will be now the fourth or fifth time I am repeating to you that I specifically mentioned 4-0. That’s 4 games buddy.

You are the one who decided to cherry pick one of them 4 games and try and switch the point. I don’t know why you have tunnel vision on only that one game but my guess is because you can blame the defense as the sole reason. A deeper look into all four of them games tells a much broader story then you just looking at that one game.

And you may keep blaming only the defense for that one game if you wish but I disagree. I think a elite QB can outdueling Ryan in that game(heck even Dalton can do it) and I think Winston can play better and win us a shootout game. He just haven’t reached that level yet.

Also I don’t hate Winston. I’m actually a big supporter. You have manifested that hate in your own head. Just like you have manifested that I am blaming him when it’s just critism. Unlike you I don’t put a loss 100% on one part of the team like you just said about the defense. Football is a team game.

  55. Magadude Says:

@Clay Travis…to the contrary, I think people SHOULD buy the book. It is also fine the author is a huge fan and presents a bunch of stats to make it interesting. And in that regard, on field stuff, where one can look and see some intresting history. Okay. Interesting. Even then, not sure what you have in the way of statistics education, and most know, as I do, you can make stats support just about any position. Especially if you are not COMPLETE with it or have your own bias. The book should have stuck with football on the field.
The part that is not helpful for anyone more than likely is talk of all the off field stuff, the spin, the non-inclusion of key info left out by the author. Poking the bear, dusting it up in my opinion. Plus overall calling out a bunch of false narratives that frankly, I don’t see (I don’t think most would), and mixing in so many religous passages…just wierd. So they must be haters and illogical people that don’t love Jesus like the author and Jameis do. Essentially saying he did nothing wrong and was suspended only for optic is really not a good look. That’s certainly the right of the author to do all that…but not helpful for Winston’s case. I have also posted previously I hope the author gets his money back on it. I bought the book. As for overall work, the author himself admitted he rushed it out. Yup, I would have stuck with football.

Your posts of the last few days are examples of what is NOT helpful to the man, to the fans, to the game. You look foolish. In fact, a lot of Winston apologists do when they scream, rant, ban, do adminum attacks on others who have seen enough.

So again, I’m saying BUY THE BOOK! I think folk sneed to see it. Make their own conclusions. As I’ve said…it does Winston no favors.

  56. Magadude Says:

@ClayTravis..it’s a lttle bizarre that out of the blue, guys that never post here (or at least not under current names) come here and try to blast those who actually bought and read it.

Apparently, being more supportive of Winston’s welfare than you are (by suggesting he doesn’t publicly embrace the book and just plays his tail off this year), I actually bought it, just stated why I don’t like it, why it’s a bad look, and still suggested folks buy it and get their own opinion, and I also do not intend to review it on Amazon where I bought it.

Following up because I see your many posts keep showing up at an earlier time stamp…are you in moderation or something?

Have a nice evening. I’m finished with that one. And for others…don’t take my word on anything. Buy the book.

  57. Magadude Says:

@AlteredEgo…if could be nice to fast forward through this season and just get the answers! But will hold off on wishing it was over (again) until at least Mid October. I suppose seeing it happen along the way is fun…sometimes.

  58. Ndog Says:

Ok JimmyJack Jameis also outplayed Drew Brees as against NO he went 260 total yards and both of our TDs and a hailmary pick while Brees went for 201 yards with a pick and lost fumble. He freaking outplayed a first ballot HOFer but we lost cause of a blocked punt and missed FG. Sp again you ask how can you not win one game, easy cause your team sucks period. You can keep searching but the bottom line is YOU’RE WRONG! He played plenty well enough to win and didn’t turn the ball over yet we still lost proving what I have been saying time and time again we are not losing cause of QB play we were losing due to horrific coaching on defense and having a crappy kicker and poor running game.

  59. JimmyJack Says:

Maga……I don’t think you are getting it because you are quite obviously holding a grudge on Winston for his offield issues. This is not allowing you to see winning as a cure based from your emotions.

The fact is that most Buc fans have forgiven and forgotten the offield stuff. Our concern is on a better brand of football. Winning football.

And I’m sorry to tell you that you are wrong about there being a swell of fans show up once we start winning. Do you even realize how many fringe fans we have? It’s enormous. We got tons of fans who barely care about football and just go for the party. The outpour of fans when the Lightning get to the Finals is proof. And when we won the Cup I looked around at everybody who was around me……….You know how many people were actually paying attention to the game? It was less then ten percent dude. Half them probably couldn’t tell you who our goalie was. They were there for the party not the team or the players. There aren’t no party for a freaking perienal loser……..Only a handful of diehards that are sick til Tuesday.

Heck look no further then this site to what winning does for Joe’s business. He only tells us all the time his numbers go way up……….Folks don’t care about off field stuff u less they are holding a grudge. That’s why when we see a story on player charity there are very few comments. Fans wanna be entertained on Sundays.

    GO BUCS!!!

  60. Ndog Says:

Against Dallas he threw for 336 yards with a TD no picks and a blindsided fumble while Prescott threw for 161 yards and a TD yet we got beat, I wonder why? So he more than doubled the yards and matched Prescott with TDs but their D made a huge play. So that’s the QB?

  61. Magadude Says:

    Ndog Says:
    July 21st, 2019 at 12:12 pm
Well Fitz was always there expect for the time he held out through all of the off-season work after having one good year. Yeah his one real shot and he held out, that guy is all about team.
    ——————
Very fair point. I wonder what his salary WAS currently/before and if the expectations going forward were higher (that is, were they wanting him to be the #1 QB going in that year? I don’t know the answer…as I said…fair point on Fitz.

  62. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog Winston led us to 14 points in that game. Our offense scored zero for the entire 2nd half. That’s not good enough to win on most Sundays.

And I agree we are losing cause of what you mentioned but it’s not fair to omitt QB play.

Again not blaming critizing…….And any QB in the league will get critized if they only score 14 and get shut out for a whole half. Why is Winston above critism? Why should he have a separate set of standards?

  63. Ndog Says:

The Ravens game, in a driving rain storm, one team ran for 242 yards and the other ran for 85, I wonder which one won the game. But yep that’s on the QB and BTW on the first play of that game Godwin dropped a pass right in his hands that would have probably gone to the house. But yep regardless of what else happens the QB has got to win that game. Again my famous line do you read what you type before hitting send?

  64. Magadude Says:

@JimmyJack…Yes, I do hold a grudge on Winston if you consider me saying he threw it all away and shamed everyone and I don’t think he is worth the risk with the baggage to put him back into the same saddle. Forgive? Yes. Hope he succeeds? Yes. Does that mean give it all back to him (he had baggage coming in)? No. And that’s not unreasonable. As I said, let me see him play lights out and stay out of the news for the wrong reasons for a year and we’ll see how I feel come contract time.

The fringe fans will sit and watch for a while. That part won’t happen this year. Yeah, look at end of 2016, Hard Knocks, biggest turnout for practice ever…and the way the 2017 seaon ended….ESPECIALLY with the social activism and Uber thing. Killed it. Not back all last year. There was hope early in 2018 no one expected (hope it happens this year) but it was shortlived, and the RayJay sucked. Fans won’t be back this year…the fringe ones that is. Sure, they may watch…from home or elsewhere. Again, hope I’m wrong. Just doubt it.

The folks on this site and probably the BIGGEST supporters…thick and thin…and unless “Clay Travis” is right (no, he’s not) that I’m the only one here who is still not happy on the off-field stuff…I guarantee you it’s a bigger buzz. We’ve had this talk before…so let’s just say I hope I’m wrong, but have to say…not likely.

  65. Ndog Says:

I’m not omitting QB play but why it is Jameis has to play perfectly but Brees can turn it over twice and win and yet Jameis gets the blame? You see what I’m saying man their is a different standard but that’s ok if he has to be the best in football then so be it.

  66. Magadude Says:

@JimmyJack…and I spend time on the player charity sites…and frankly, am sad in what I see sometimes…the lack of some support/activity there. Yes, fans want to be entertained on Sundays…again…I didn’t say winning wasn’t important…but results aren’t instant, and it’s not enough when you’re in the situation the Bucs are in. You bring up the Lightning..wasn’t always that way. And look at the Rays..in the past winning did some…but it wasn’t enough…and apparently, is still not enough. Many other factors pulling them down…despite winning. Okay, enough of this for one day.

  67. tickrdr Says:

    @Ndog:
JimmyJack is making good points, and certainly does not need any help from me, except for correcting his spelling of criticism (not critism).

His point is that the best QBs sometimes need to win a shootout, and in many games, the team with the LAST possession of the game is the one to win the game, driving the field for the winning score. (As an example, the Rams and the Chiefs played a game this year where BOTH teams scored a 50-burger, yet one team lost.) In fact, the only game that the Bucs won last year when the opponents scored 24 or more points, was when Fitz and the Bucs beat New Orleans on the road 48 – 40, in a SHOOTOUT!

Jameis is praised for playing his best football during the 6 games after his benching. Yet, that “careful” Jameis does not score enough points:
    – only 14 vs. New Orleans
    – only 12 vs. Baltimore
    – only 20 vs. Dallas
Most of his wins have come against bottom-tier teams with poor defenses, and even in the Atlanta game you are touting, their defense is ranked about the same as ours.

    tickrdr

  68. Magadude Says:

@Ndog…Brees has a ton of cred and accomplishments to carry him through. Winston is still pretty young, needs to put more arrows in quiver and certs on his wall. However, what happens when a guy like Brees starts to look like a weak link? People start talking about “retirement” and that’s got to be good kick in the gut to him, guys like Brady, the Mannings, etc.

  69. JimmyJack Says:

Now your blaming the rain. Come on bro. If Winston can’t put 21 points on the board in the rain that’s a problem for me. 21 is what we needed to win.

Personally I thought the Ravens game was horribly coached. But why should that mean I must 100% blame coaches for the loss? That seems to me what you are saying……..Find something that went wrong in a given game and put all the blame on them. And nobody else can be legitametly criticized………Dude that’s narrow minded.

And then we wanna blame the defense for everything but that don’t work when we look at a game like the Ravens when they did their job………or like the Saints when they basically shut them out for a half and did plenty to win……..so now we resort to blaming other things 100%? And dumb crap like the rain or a single dropped ball in the first quarter?

That’s just not holding all the other parts accountable. Some of us judge all the players individually. That don’t make anyone a hater or clueless like you love to say.

  70. Ndog Says:

He was the best QB in all four of our last four games yet we lost. There is no debate about that as I proved above. So say what you will but again it doesn’t matter facts are irrelevant to you as no matter what he does you are going to blame him. So if our D and kicking game improve and we start winning games he better get just as much credit then as he does blame now. But I think we both know that won’t happen.

  71. Ndog Says:

You’re saying that the Defense did their job by giving up 242 yards rushing to a team that couldn’t throw the ball? Dude you are looking worse by the second in this debate. Just stop while you’re way behind cause it can only get worse bro.

  72. JimmyJack Says:

Ndog fair enough…..the defense could have done more in that Ravens game. I do remember getting to a point where they were dam near helpless to stop Lamar Jackson.

They deserve their share of critism (thanks tickdr) but that should never mean we blame them 100% for the loss and not criticize any other performance.

Are you going to tell me 12 points is enough to win a NFL football game? Winston could have done no more in that he? We can’t expect 21 points in the rain if we play a good defense?

I’ll admitt to being wrong to say the D did their job. But they did hold the Ravens to 20. That should be enough to win a freaking game and the offense needs to be held accountable.

  73. Clay Travis Says:

@Magadude, I thought you and I had an agreement? You were supposed to bash the book, now you’re waffling and telling people to buy it?

    No!!!!!

We have to suppress the truth of how he favorably compares to all the past Hall of Fame quarterbacks through their first four years, so Tampa fans can think he’s a bust and had under-achieved and should be run out of Tampa!

Don’t do this to me brother or there will be no more cuddle time! Keep doing the Lord’s work and bashing Winston!

I do however love how you say the book should have stuck to football … we definitely don’t want anyone reading off-field chapters! Because, while we can’t pull the wool over anyone’s eyes who has read that book, when it comes to how Jameis stacks up to all the HOF’ers, we can definitely pretend we know he’s a bad guy off the field.

I like you’re thinking on that my brother, you’re doing great kid, no one can touch you, yeah!

I know we’re still on the same team and I know you just try to sound fair and unbiased sometimes while still getting your jabs in … keep up the great work buddy, we will be BFF’s forever!

So yeah, EVERYONE READ THE BOOK, just ignore all the chapters about off the field stuff!

WE WILL WIN for WE ARE LEGION!

  74. Ndog Says:

We should have scored more of course but the run game was poor, shocker, the WRs dropped a lot of balls that day AND Jameis made a few bad throws but that’s just it. Why does he have to play damn near perfect for us to win when NO OTHER QB is expected to do that?

  75. Figures Says:

If you don’t completely support Winston it is because you’re a racist.
    Nothing else. Just racist.

    F U Ndog. You lying as s mf’er

I know exactly where I was what I was doing and know exactly what I read from your bit$h as s when you suggested it. You’re a liar.

I know one thing for sure if Winston was this ELITE QB all you experts claim he is. Because according to you FSU fans he is completely absolved of any blame whatsoever and literally everything, every turnover, every bad pass, everything is someone else’s fault. Literally Ndog blames every single thing on someone else, then he would already have a contract.

There’s a reason he hasn’t been resigned going into SEASON 5.

If all these problems were everything other than Winston then surely upper management would see that and would have resigned him already.

I’m sure Ndog has someone else to blame for that as well.

WINSTON is definitely not the only problem the last 4 years but so far he’s been PART of the problem whether you morons wanna admit it or not.

Let me say it again for the idiots.

WINSTON IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM BUT HE SO FAR IS PART OF THE PROBLEM.

  76. Buccaroo Says:

This season will go how Jameis plays. If the defense plays better than last season then that’s a plus but I just can’t see how you blame the defense when the score ends up as a blowout with us hardly scoring any points.

Chicago we lost 48-10 ..really bad Jameis …10 friggin points
Carolina 42 – 28 with Carolina giving up an uncontested TD at the end
Washington 16 to Muf’n 3 …this was some really bad Jameis
New Orleans 28 -14 with the Bucs never scoring another point in the 2nd half

With this great schedule according to some morons in here the Bucs should never score less than 23 points a game.

  77. JimmyJack Says:

14 points against the Saints? Zero in the second half? That just aint good enough bro and I’m sorry that you think it is…………..Tout stats all you like. By that logic we should have kept Fitz as QB cause he was still throwing up 500 yard games like he did vs Washington.

But that 500 yards wasn’t good enough and we all know it……..and you know it too. But for some reason when it comes to Winston it’s a different standard. For some reason if he puts up stats you tell me is good enough……Even if equals only 14 points and no points in the second half while the Saints come back and we lose.

BTW Winston has been our QB in quite a few comeback losses. And just like the Saints game there’s more to blame then just defense.

  78. Clay Travis Says:

@Magadude, great job! Winston is definitely part of the problem!

    Oh crap … um … I meant, @Figures, not at @Magadude.

You are my friend, oops, I meant friendS, as in plural, yeah, more than one.

Good job brother @Figures, keep doing the Lord’s work until Jameis is playing on another team!

  79. Tye Says:

Jake Fromm in 2020 (unless the Bucs actually pick 1st or somehow get an opportunity for Tua) and 2 stud o-linemen…
Along with their receiving corp, this team will be looked at differently and have renewed hope…

Throw in a power RB and maybe even a pass rusher and greatly increase their chances to get in the playoffs with expectation of winning and not going 1 a done!

  80. Magadude Says:

@Clay Travis…one can be negative on the book AND tell people to buy it. Kind of like, I don’t this food but try it and see for yourelf? You know?

I never once told anyone not to buy it and in fact said don’t take my word for it. Yes, I think the book is not good and I said why. That..is…why…there are reviews and stuff, right? You say I’m just trying to sound fair? I think I’m being more than fair.

Attack attack attack! You can’t help it can you?

  81. Figures Says:

I don’t care where Winston plays. I’m a Bucs fan not player fan. I don’t care who the QB is I just wanna see wins.

  82. JimmyJack Says:

Hey at least I got Ndog to admitt Winston made some bad throws. This is a victory for all the non-extremists within the fanbase!!!! Its almost the same as getting a Winston hater to admitt Jamies is talented.

For the record I am a big-time Winston supporter. My reasoning for arguing is to defend our rights to be critical of our QB without being a hater. I also love the Beach Boys and romance novels.

I do believe Winston can play at a higher level if he gets solid football around him. And believe Arian will give us just that and we will be a winning team this year with Winston leading us.

My prediction stands firm at 11-5.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  83. Buccaroo Says:

    @JimmyJack

I don’t know who you are referring to, but if it was me, you need to take a reading comprehension class. I was pointing out how JW is responsible for all scoring. Scoring !4 points in the first half of Saint’s game was good but “NO” points in the second half was terrible. ONLY 3 GD points in the Washington game. Turnovers galore and our sorry defense actually kept us in the game but Jameis and his offense kept putting our defense in a bind. For some to suggest that Jameis doesn’t need to play better are outta there muf’n mind.

  84. JimmyJack Says:

Clay Travis. Can I be your friend too?

  85. Magadude Says:

@JimmyJack…I hope you are right…but iI’m sticking with 4 or 6 wins max. I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than ticked off again on TDay. And yes, it will be less wins if Winston doesn’t start the whole year (which I think he should and will).

  86. Figures Says:

I bet if Winston went to UF all you low IQ FSU fans would have a completely different opinion.

You’re more of a Winston fan than a Bucs fan and if he ever does leave Tampa you FSU fans would then become a fan of that team.

  87. Figures Says:

I just want the BUCS to win whether it’s Winston or someone else.

But this year will not be good with that atrocious schedule. This team is not built to handle that kind of adversity.

    6-10.

  88. Magadude Says:

    Figures says:

“WINSTON IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM BUT HE SO FAR IS PART OF THE PROBLEM.” Wow. Such hatred. I can’t believe anyone could say such a thing.

But Ndog has it going on. He just is all in on JW…but he’s not railing on anyone…

Reading your stuff…I thought I learned all the cuss words in junior high school…dude you say things that probably makes Sam Kinison roll over and laugh.

  89. Magadude Says:

@Figures…it’s not the fault of the FSU fans…it’s their parents’ fault. I wonder if they had any children that llived? Now see, I’m really being a hater. I’m actually a Falcon and a Bull, not a Nole or a Gator.

  90. Figures Says:

    Clay Travis.
Sorry I like my friends to have an IQ higher than a gnat.

    So you don’t qualify.

  91. Magadude Says:

@Buccarrooo….”Chicago we lost 48-10 ..really bad Jameis …10 friggin points.” True, but that one was mostly on Fitz, right? (Ndog, pay attention, now…showing some love for your man).

  92. Figures Says:

    @magadude

When Ndog suggested I was a racist before last season because I didn’t blindly support Winston then I decided to not hold anything back. So I don’t.

My hatred is for Ndog until he apologizes. Which he won’t because just like everything else any and all fault lies with someone else.

  93. Ndog Says:

Figures you are lying plain and simple butt that’s ok many others on this board have stated the truth. On top of that are you ok bro I am worried you have some anger issues. I mean if I was wrong and making up stuff constantly I would be pissed too but dang man calm down it is just our opinions. You know we want the same thing the difference is I support all of our players and choose to support all but one.

  94. Figures Says:

    @ndog

Not true at all. I wear my Winston jersey every Sunday during the season.
I support anyone in a Bucs uniform plain and simple.

And yes I’m right. That’s how I know you’re white because you suggested I was racist for not supporting everything Winston does so I said well you only support him cause you’re black then. That’s when you told me you’re white. You really think I would just make that up?

Like I would single you out and make that claim?

But yes we do want the same things but I unlike you criticize the WHOLE team and you criticize everyone except one player. That’s the difference.

I don’t care who the QB is I just wanna see the Bucs win. You on the other hand don’t want any other QB than Winston wins or not.

  95. Jim Says:

Hope Joe saves this thread, it’s the best ever!

  96. Magadude Says:

Well then, if Ndog did that, he should apologize…just haven’t seen him do it in the few months here. Oh, he’s a little too nuts for JW…the two of you going at it is probably the best (faux) debates here…as far as humor factor.

Ndog…did you throw the card out on Figures? Would you support Gabbert if Winston got benched?

You two should make progress on the Springer route…as Judge Judy may be next.

  97. Ndog Says:

Of course not he stated I was supporting Winston cause I was black and I said I’m not. Many on here have called people racists but have not as i stick to facts like stats and specific plays. Again he just makes stuff up like the following comment about me “I don’t care who the QB is I just wanna see the Bucs win. You on the other hand don’t want any other QB than Winston wins or not.” I have been a season ticket holder since 1996 and went to games via another method well before that and I care first and foremost about the Bucs. I just happen to think we have the QB position fixed. I have no idea why he is flat lying about me but frankly it is unappreciated and he just randomly brings me up all the time even in treads I don’t comment in. It’s ridiculous and he should get over it, I don’t know if he simply confused me with someone else, but whatever people are going to say what they want to say.

  98. Ndog Says:

BTW during the Cincy game I posted that we should bench Jameis so I don’t know how that equates to me supporting a player over the team?

  99. Ndog Says:

By the way, blindly support line, have you ever seen me type that? Of course I don’t type that way, just look at his claims, most of it is stuff I never say and you all know it. Heck we argue basically everyday!

  100. Magadude Says:

I’ve never seen you say that, but I have gotten the impression you’d run nude down Dale Mabre, for Winston.

Had no idea you supported the benching. Ah, but I’ll bet you wanted him to start the next game? I’m with the “haters” on that one…thought he needed to sit and earn it back again. I’d really rather forget that season…and that game. I’m 0-17 on the road in the past 10 years. That’s a lot of crappy Monday mornings at airports coming home.

  101. Ndog Says:

Yes I wanted him to start the next game because exactly what happened is what I expected to happen. We were going nowhere with Fitz and I wanted to see how Jameis bounced back after. But it is what it is and I turned out to be right and Fitz is gone and Jameis will earn a new contract this year. If I’m wrong then I will be the first to admit it.

  102. Figures Says:

    Lmao

The first time I confronted you on this you said I was wrong but you did remember saying to me that you were white.

Now this the second time and you say that i said you support Winston cause you’re black lol. You didn’t mention that on the first conversation about this.

Third time is a charm I guess.

Just admit it dude. You’re old and don’t remember but I do.
I never said a word about you being black until you pulled the card.

Just admit it and apologize and I’ll accept your apology for accusing me of being a racist and we can bury the hatchet.
You just can’t admit you were wrong. And now you’re trying to turn it around like I pulled the card on you first.

  103. Figures Says:

    Magadude

This was before last season. And about a month ago it dawned on me why I remember Ndog and I started laughing because I’m was like “oh yea this is that dude that was accusing me of being racist for criticizing Winston”

  104. Figures Says:

Now Ndog is trying to turn it around like I pulled the card first which is completely untrue.

  105. Figures Says:

First time I confronted him on this he said he didn’t remember the conversation but did remember telling me he was white.

Now he’s saying that I said he only likes Winston cause he’s black.
Didn’t mention that the first time I asked him about it. It’s coming out little by little.

He pulled the card first I called him out on it and now he’s trying to turn it around on me.

  106. Figures Says:

All he has to do is apologize.
    I’ll accept his apology.
    We can bury the hatchet.

But he can’t admit it for fear of people knowing he did it.

  107. Ndog Says:

Whatever dude you’re full of it. Moving on

  108. JimmyJack Says:

Figures…..Really? Your still upset about something from 2 years ago? Maybe it is time to let it go.

I’ve always believed that sensitivity has no place in sports conversation. If your still bent up about a two year old comment this might not be the best place for you.

  109. Buccaroo Says:

I’m new here, not looking for a fight but I’ve seen this ndog call people racist for a negative comment they had against Winston. There are several posters here that like use this slandering demeaning word cause they feel if they can’t win an argument they pull it out and thrust it into a person like its a knife or something. There are a lot of loose minded stupid people who are very spiteful. One example I read was a comment this poster Jean Lafitte or something had made about Winston’s accuracy issues and a regular on these pages got into a back and forth with him and then accused him of being a racist. Here’s the real skinny. I had read in one of his comments before him being called a racist that he was Haitian American and as black as ivory. The people who bandy this word about are hateful spiteful racist themselves so they project it onto others.

  110. Magadude Says:

@Figures…well…on a few guys seem to do it now. If you want to get on NDog’s good side, talk to him about catch radius. He loves that one.

  111. Magadude Says:

I’d hoped toward the end when we knew it was all lost they would conserve Winston and see what Griffin had…could have saved some $$$ in offseason.

  112. Buczilla Says:

Did Jameis get thrown under the bus last year? Yes, because Koetter gave up on him. Does Jameis make a disproportionate amount of dumba$$ plays compared to the best quarterbacks? Yes, and he always has, even going back to college. If Arians can coach him up and he’s in the conversation for the top ten quarterbacks we have to keep him. If not, time to start all over again. “Sigh”, my fingers are crossed for the former and Jameis has more than enough talent to get it done.

  113. Eric Says:

Jimmy jack, those winnable games were against teams that were 40-24 combined for the season.

One of those games he had 345 yds, 4td, 1 int, 121 pr.

  114. Clay Travis Says:

@Magadude & @Figures, (two of you, not one guy changing screen names, two)

Good job pretending not to agree with me guys; keep em guessing!

We had a good laugh and cuddle tonight didn’t we?

Don’t worry, WE will run Jameis out of Tampa for WE ARE LEGION!!!!!

  115. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

I don’t care which side of the Winston fence you’re on, admit this….it’s Groundhog Day. Again.
