Veteran Offensive Linemen Trying Out For Bucs

June 4th, 2019

Bucs have a 2018 Saints starter trying out

Interesting additions to practice today at One Buc Palace.

Head coach Bucco Bruce Arians said he was was going to bring veterans in to mandatory minicamp today but he didn’t give any advance heads-up on what position that they played. Well, Buccaneers media staff handed Joe a practice roster this morning and it’s got five tryout players, three wide receivers and two offensive linemen.

Joe’s first thought: Are the injuries to Breshad Perriman and Mike Evans significant? Both have missed a chuck of spring practices.

The Bucs have not — and are not required to — provide injury updates this time of year. Hopefully, the Bucs peeking at three receivers is nothing more than the team looking at bodies. None have played in an NFL game. One is Malachi Dupree, an LSU standout who was a seventh-round pick of the Packers in 2017. He was a practice squad player with the Cardinals last year, so offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich is familiar with him.

But the offensive linemen trying out for the Bucs have real experience. Josh LeRibeus, 29, made three starts for the Saints last season at left guard before an ankle injury sent him to injured reserve. He made 11 starts for the Redskins at center in 2015, but he was out of football the following year.

The other veteran is 25-year-old Cyrus Kouandjio. He’s a Bills’ second-round bust of a tackle from the 2014 NFL Draft. He’s made eight career starts and was a Broncos backup for parts of the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Of course, it’s no surprise that the Bucs are sniffing O-line talent. Right guard is a question mark and Demar Dotson turns 34 in October.

We are nowhere near the completion of the roster…I am a bit surprised by WRs being brought in…..we have two or three UDFA’s who are showing promise.

Sneaky suspicion BA is not close to being finished searching for unclaimed gems.

It’s only June. I’m just delighted he’s being proactive. Roster is FAR from being finalized.

The more veteran competition the better!

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

I can see bringing in offensive lineman, but why so many wide receivers or looking to trade someone?

  6. Unimpressed Says:

Good for Jason Licht, maybe now after another 4-12 season he can point some fingers at Arian’s roster turnover in an attempt to keep his job. Hopefully the Glazers are smart enough to see through that weak argument, but who knows.

  7. DB55 Says:

Really would have felt great signing Richie Incognito.

When speaking of large, sweaty men I think it would be better for everyone involved if the word sniff was not used.
    Pretty gross Joseph!

  9. BA FAN Says:

I hope both Veteran OL play well enough to make the 90 player roster. We need more competition for our OL!

As depleted as we are at running back I’m surprised that karlos Williams wasn’t brought in for a look. Im not gonna lie I’m a fsu Homer. This guy has the size and speed to be special though.

Incognito? You cant be that desperate? Is is a ticking time bomb who just plead guilty for domestic violence on his 90 year old grandmother. Gtfooh. This guy cant control his emotions with his 90 year old grandmother? He is unstable. Btw. He pled guilty for another domestic altercation that happened 2 days after his dust up with grandma. You guys sound stupid.

  13. webster Says:

Lets resign kellen winslow while we are at it. How about we bring in rae curruth on a veterans try out as well. Im sure 813 and db55 would love that

  16. TOM Says:

Like hearing about the OL vets. Now how about DL vets. Don’t care about the WR”S. Have to many already. And no more DB’s.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  18. Jean Lafitte Says:

Where’s Ted Larsen when you need him?

  19. Old Sombrero Says:

Perhaps they’re looking for a punt returner/kick returner in this batch of WRs? Or they’re bringing them in to push who we have to work harder. An UDFA working their ass off can raise the effort across the board.

at 5-11, everything is on the table……

    get real dude….

nice guys come in last…..just ask GMC…..SUH will tell you….

having guys that CAN control their emotions have led us to 4th in the division more times than i care for…..

you have some nerve not wanting a player like RI when we have players on the roster that arent squeaky clean….lol….

have you forgot who our QB is?…….

    you sound dumb!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

Like ya dude but you have no morality at all. Win at ALL costs eh…even with a total thug and scumbag who has a LONG LONG history of doing horrible stuff and harming his own teams on more than one occasion including costing victories.

Being a bad asss is great but you have to do more than simply hurt people to win football games.

  24. Jeff Says:

Sign em. Protected Brees good enough for JW.
