Training Camp Will Feature More Access, More Heat, More Shade

June 11th, 2019

The bleachers return for 2019!!!

Radical change will be in effect for 2019 Buccaneers training camp!!!

Greg Schiano started practices at One Buc Palace before 8 a.m. to keep players fresh. Lovie Smith was all about early afternoon practices to so his team could practice in the heat they’d see on game day. Dirk Koetter brought back the Schiano-era morning affairs to cut the wear and tear on players (for the record, Koetter was 3-0 on opening days).

Well, Bucco Bruce Arians has found a new love: late-afternoon practices.

Below is the schedule of training camp dates open to fans just released by the Buccaneers. Eleven of the 15 are open to the public, the remaining four are exclusive to season ticket holders.

Friday                 July 26                4:00 p.m.

Saturday            July 27                4:00 p.m.

Sunday               July 28                4:00 p.m.

Monday              July 29                4:00 p.m.

Tuesday             July 30                4:00 p.m.

Saturday            August 3             6:30 p.m.

Tuesday             August 6             4:00 p.m.

Wednesday        August 7             4:00 p.m.

Monday              August 12           4:00 p.m.

Tuesday             August 13           10:00 a.m.*

Wednesday        August 14           10:00 a.m.*

Those last two morning affairs are joint sessions with the Miami Dolphins leading up to the home preseason game against the Dolphins that weekend.

Per the Bucs, most practices will be outdoors on two fields. Remember, Arians splits up the team to run two practices at once and there’s only one indoor field. And perhaps best of all, the Bucs are bringing back the covered bleachers! Joe’s glad good sense prevailed as those inexplicably disappeared last season.

When they removed the bleachers last year I thought it was a bad idea but then when I went to training camp I loved that bleachers were gone. I enjoyed walking around the practice areas without feeling like I was impeding on anyone’s view.

  2. Prada...sec 147 Says:

Hell no just give us the bleachers any day

  6. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Cry me a river sports writers Bucs provide you with your own AC area to write, you get into games free, get fed, an area to do podcast and other perks. You’ll get no sympathy from fans who have regular 9-5’s

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Late afternoon is when I hate going out in the summer.

    Seems to be hotter then!

    Yikes.

Joe isn’t complaining about the heat one bit! Just the sun. Joe has put his dermatologist’s kids through college he’s been carved up so friggin’ much.

Besides, cold beer tastes better on a hot day. 🙂 And women tend to wear less clothing when it is warm. No issue at all with the heat. Joe chooses to live here and begs for summer to arrive each February.

  9. Stonedbuc Says:

Joe trying to get laid at bucs practices?

  10. BucEmUp Says:

This time of year afrernoons are when the lightning and showers roll in. I see most of THESE practices being moved indoors

  11. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    @Joe

You got a point about the clothing…

No complaints here about the heat

  12. ir8oldman Says:

Late afternoon showers, anyone? Don’t mind the time, but it’s going to be a lot of indoor practice that will happen.

  13. DB55 Says:

    6p > 4p bc the ☀️

  14. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Jameis is going to get good practice throwing wet footballs when those 4-5 o’clock storms come rolling in every other day.

  15. Succaneers Says:

    1-15

  16. Todd Says:

    Joe—

“And women tend to wear less clothing when it is warm.”

Personally, I self-identify as a 6’6” female Chinese basketball player, so your sexist comment offends me.

Joe has honestly never, ever thought about this. Now look what you’ve done! 😳

  18. SCBucsFan Says:

Joe – based on the heat I hope you run into Rachel Watson

  19. Magadude Says:

Normally I’d think late afternoon is a terrible idea…it IS really hotter by then, plus there are the thunderstorms. But…ah, the new indoor practice facility brings some levity.

On another note, I liked having the bleachers, and thought they should have built some more permanent ones, but starting higher up.

  20. Louis Says:

Wet t shirt contests at bucks practices…nice perk

    It’s happened.

  23. Ghingus Kwon Says:

4p will be much better, even if it is hotter. Those early practices had the sun right in our faces. Any ideas if there will be an uprising on the first Saturday or not Joe? We as fans need a new identity since we had to retire our “stick carrier” shirts. Bruce’s Biscuits? Arians Nation? Joeys bag of Buc fans?

  24. SOEbuc Says:

I can guarantee dumbo Glazer kids could get 10,000-15,000 more fans (including myself) will attend Bucs games even if we are a below .500 team. You ask how?

HAVING SHADE BLOCKS ON THE ROOF OF THE STADIUM LIKE HARD ROCK STADIUM IN MIAMI!!!

#1 Bucs fan complaint on Sundays is…IT’S TOO F#CKING HOT!!!!!

And people can have there own believes on the weather but all I know is that every year that goes by record breaking heat continues to rise.
