Lots Of Shotgun

June 3rd, 2019

Forecast.

Joe is a history guy. Proud of it. And one way to gauge the future is to look at the past.

Evan Silva had done just that with the Bucs. The smart NFL analyst for Rotoworld.com decided to look at the Cardinals’ offense in Bucco Bruce Arians’ last two seasons to get an idea of what to expect this season from the Bucs.

Per Silva, don’t be shocked to see a lot of hurry-up offense.

Just from quick memory (always dicey), Joe remembers America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, playing much better in a two-minute offense. And just by Arians’ offense having some of the most plays from scrimmage when he was in Arizona, this potentially could be savvy match between offense and quarterback.

Also, consider this offense shouldn’t change much with Byron Leftwich as offensive coordinator from what Arians ran in Arizona.

Arians was once asked why he decided to hand off Bucs playcalling duties to Leftwich. Arians replied he can trust Leftwich because he trained him.

And remember the guy who notes, today is yesterday’s tomorrow.

Shotgun is good….unless it’s in the hands of your future Father-in-Law…..

  3. TDTB Says:

Jamies is much better in shot gun and two minute offense. Less pressure and fast reads.

Suckaneers will suck again this season:

Whoever follows the Suckaneers and wants them to become the Buccaneers again should start to boycott this clown show of an “professional” team

until the Glazers decide to hire intelligent football minds into the Front Office, that is good @evaluating talent and@Roster Building..

TBBF thats a good one 🙂

  6. Jean Lafitte Says:

One reason why you would use shotgun a lot is to make up for a horrible run blocking o-line. The Bucs should probably pass 95% of the time anyway because they waste too many plays pretending to run block, and their play action fools absolutely no-one. I think once BA gets deep into TC he will be concerned about the O-line, especially the right side. We can’t be one dimensional. Run blocking is just as important to JW’s success as pass blocking is.

    Shotgun is a good metaphor for Jameis’s passes… 😉

It’s about to be 2013 FSU offense all over again. That’s why Fameis so excited, this system reminds him of a time when he was considered flawless.. louden, are you a betting man??? If so let’s do something. Whus up.

  9. Allbuccedup Says:

Bad thing about passing 95% of the time is that the opponents defense will pin their ears back ignore the run and come after JW.

  10. Costa Rica John Says:

If the Bucs want to run the ball down on the goal line just train Suh and Vea to block on the right side. Those two beasts can push a pile backwards. Go Bucs!

  11. DB55 Says:

If memory serves me correctly when JW ran Koetters hurry up offense he was awesome but Koetter went away from it for some unknown reason

    Allbuc

Thats when u hit em w the draw or swing pass to Rojo.
This will be the year we really see “speed in space”

    Go Bucs!!

  13. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

Db55 ur memory serves u well sir n as far as koetter the only thing I can think is he hoped to take pressure off of Smith’s sorry a$$defense being they couldnt ever get off the field unless the opponent scored quickly lol

  14. DB55 Says:

    Rodney

    Hilarious and true

  15. TexBuc Says:

Winston has always in the hurry up offense and roll out plays, and for some reason Koetter seemed to restrict everything Winston did well with the excuse he needed to be an well rounded QB.

I almost feel like Koetter so disliked the drafting of Winston over Mariota that he was trying to justify is opinion during his whole HC career at Tampa.

  16. NOSBOS Says:

Nothing louden??? Talk all that weak ish but ain’t about ish.

  17. BringBucsBack Says:

Even as a “hater” I can admit that #3 usually plays pretty well when hurried. However, hurry up O is good until you go 3 & out a couple of series in a row and your tired & young defense can’t get off of the field for a break longer than 4 plays.

  18. Pittsshore Says:

Big difference: Carson Palmer could handle the heat and stay focused. JW is too ignorant in general but much more when under duress. Hell, the guy could not make a decision in the Taco Bell drive thru a couple of years ago on that fateful night in Arizona. He had one taco in hand and then came the time to order additional tacos in the drive thru…he then froze and lost his grip (fumbled) on the taco in hand. I rekin his mama never told him that “ a taco in hand is better than two in the “bush”.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

I always think of Winston playing really well from shotgun, but here’s the stats.

    Winston’s QB rating overall, 90.2
    Winston from shotgun, 90.1

Bucs also ran shotgun 62% of the time last year and the league average was… 62%.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Pittsshore – Wow that’s an amazing story, thanks for sharing.

  21. Ndog Says:

I’ll just leave this right here for good old Pittsshore.

According to ESPN’s NFL Matchup, Brady’s passer rating when pressured this season is 111.3. Only two other quarterbacks have a rating over 80.0 in such situations: Jameis Winston (94.6) and Kirk Cousins (82.1).

  22. TexBuc Says:

Pittsshore – Just some interesting FACTS: NFC South QB

Brees (NO) ranked 2, QBR 80.2
    Winston (TB) #8, 68.6
    Ryan (ATL) #9, 68.2
    Newton (CAR) #21, 55.9

Before you ask about Fitzpatrick (TB) #15 63.7

By 2018 QBR Winston was 2nd ranked QB in the NFC South

  23. Pittsshore Says:

Let me know how fumbles are worked into the qbr equation. He was also number one ranked in womanizing and homophobic slurs. Why do you think we had to go out and get a male cheerleader???? Duh, now you know.

  24. Kgh4life Says:

    @louden

Who would be an example of an “intelligent mind” ?

  25. SOEbuc Says:

Jameis tape at the end of last year, they gotta let him use his legs in the shotgun. Picks up yards on the run (he has a good slide and is good at getting out of bounds) or he draws DB off receivers.

  26. Tval Says:

“He was also #1 in womanizing and homophobic slurs.”
EVERY single moron to try to use this doesn’t seem like the type that, TRULY, care about human rights. Spare me the sanctimony and ENJOY YOUR franchise qb. Now go back to bed, sonny boy

  27. louden Says:

Steve White is good evaluatimg 1st round talents for example..

and even i would have had better results with picking players with the Suckaneers last picks in the last decade..

so maybe they should hire me ..

but like with ol Lovie Smith..
