Dotson Makes All-Over-30 Team

For reasons not quite clear, a gaggle of Bucs fans wants the team to move on from graybeard right tackle Demar Dotson.

The long-time fixture on the Bucs’ offensive line has seen a whole lot of losing since he first stepped onto the field for the Bucs in 2009. He became a full-time starter in 2012.

Well, for those who want to turn the page on Dotson, one NFL national writer thinks that could come back to bite them. And that would be Andy Benoit of SI.com.

In putting together a team of over-30 players, Benoit selected Dotson as the best right tackle in the game on the wrong side of 30.

Dotson is solid enough to block most defensive ends on an island, allowing us to get all five receivers out in routes.

Joe doesn’t know how much longer Dotson has with the Bucs. Dotson. This is the final year of his contract and he will turn 34 in October, few guys that old are waging war in the trenches. It’s a brutal job that takes a toll.

Dotson only missed one start last year, which is great for a lineman his age. Sadly, Father Time is undefeated and pretty soon that’s going to catch up with a tackle.

Wait, I thought he really sucked last year. Or is my memory failing. Maybe it was Benenoc who invited D-lines for tea parties in the backfield.

  2. Hodad Says:

Hopefully there’s an unexpected cut during the preseason, or a younger player can beat Dot out. He’ll be a liability this year, like he was last. I’d be happier if Risner was drafted.

  3. Alanbucsfan Says:

He also makes the All below .500 team.

  4. BringBucsBack Says:

How many tackles over 30 are there?

I don’t hate the guy but, an upgrade at the tackle(s) & R guard position won’t hurt and shouldn’t be too difficult.

  5. DBS Says:

Guess he has not seen how many drives he has killed. False starts illegal hands to the face and all the rest at the most inopportune times.

  6. Allbuccedup Says:

Should have addressed this in the draft instead of a kicker. Sad part the left tackle is not much better but they signed him to a multimillion dollar contract. The QB position is not to improve without improvement in the O-line thxs JL.

  7. Allbuccedup Says:

Demar Dotson 34 in October. You could tell after the games last year in interviews with Demar, he looked like he was ready to retire. I guess they are going to play him until he collapses on the field.

  8. Bobby M. Says:

Said many times….Dotson is good enough and he’ll look even better with a avg RG. If Dotson is your worst lineman, you have a pretty solid line. Grade wise relative to pay….Dotson is a great value. Smith and Jensen are grossly overpaid for how they grade at their positions.

  9. Ndog Says:

To be fair to Dot how good can anyone look playing next to Beneoch at Guard, which was out of position BTW.

like an attractive milf…”he looks good for his age”…

dot could miss out on a ring, say, next year…???…if i was him i would take a back up role in 2020 for like league min. and hope to grab that ring…that’s if everything falls into place…and dot makes the team this year

  12. OneBuc55 Says:

I respect Dotson alot because of the road he traveled to get to the NFL…

That said, he’s one of the guys I watch constantly every Sunday that just wears me out mentally…My personal nick-name for him is “twinkle toes”…Imho at this point in his career, he’s an above average pass-blocker and a below average run-blocker…

Since we decided not to make any personnel changes to our offensive line this off-season Im hoping the changes we’re making to our blocking scheme can help supplement for that decision…

  13. Magadude Says:

Dotson has not been great, but he’s not been awful overall. I do think this is probably his final year though.

  14. Pickgrin Says:

    Dot’s pass protection is adequate.

    Dot’s run blocking is not.

If this team wants to run the ball more effectively – they need to find a RT who can do both equally well.

Ditto for the left side although we are committed to Smith now until at least 2021

Hopefully Suh exposes these fools when he pancakes them during TC.
